Chapter 15

After taking the bags out of the trunk, Wu Mei exchanged a few words with Uncle Li, then handed one of the bags to Uncle Li and beckoned Ji Yuning to go inside.

Ji Yuning walked beside Wu Mei, listening to the rustling sound of the bags colliding. She paused and called out, "Aunt Wu."

Wu Mei exclaimed, "What's wrong?"

Ji Yuning: "I have a question for you."

Ji Yuning's tone was serious. Wu Mei initially thought she was going to say something, and her heart skipped a beat. But now that she heard Ji Yuning was just asking her a question, she immediately smiled and said, "Go ahead and ask."

The two had already entered the hall.

There was no one in the lobby; Fang Bai had already gone upstairs.

Ji Yuning stopped in her tracks. "How did I get to the second floor when I had a fever last time?"

Ji Yuning didn't forget that she woke up in a guest room on the second floor.

Wu Mei stopped with Ji Yuning. When she heard Ji Yuning's question, she smiled and said, "Miss carried you from the attic to the second floor."

The answer I got was the same as the one I had guessed an hour ago.

Ji Yuning couldn't describe the feeling in her heart.

She recognized Fang Bai's scent because it had pulled her out of her nightmare.

But now they're suddenly telling her that the person who pulled her out is the one who created the nightmare...

After Wu Mei finished speaking, she thought of the clothes Fang Bai had bought for her and Ji Yuning, and then added, "Knowing that you had a fever, Miss called a doctor to the house. She not only carried you downstairs, but also took care of you until your fever subsided."

Ji Yuning was stunned, a hint of surprise appearing on her indifferent face. "...Wasn't it you, Aunt Wu, who took care of me?"

Chapter 13

Wu Mei shook her head: "It wasn't me, it was Miss."

Ji Yuning's fingers froze.

Wu Mei didn't pay attention to Ji Yuning. She walked towards the stairs and said to Ji Yuning as she walked, "Later, your fever subsided, and Miss felt a little dizzy. I guessed it was because you hadn't eaten dinner and had a hypoglycemic episode, so I told Miss to go back to her room to rest first."

Wu Mei continued, "You woke up right after Miss left."

Ji Yuning: "".

So the person she vaguely saw was Fang Bai?

The two went up to the second floor.

Ji Yuning remained silent and continued walking upwards.

At this moment, Ji Yuning's mind was full of doubts. Even if Wu Mei's words were correct, she couldn't imagine what Fang Bai would be like when he took care of her.

The moment Ji Yuning stepped onto the stairs, Wu Mei tugged at her.

Ji Yuning snapped out of her daze and looked at Wu Mei, who then asked, "Little Ji, would you like to stay on the second floor? I've already tidied up the side bedroom."

"I live on the second floor?"

Wu Mei smiled and said, "Yes, Miss said that if you want to stay, you can stay on the second floor."

Ji Yuning paused for a moment, then shook her head. "Aunt Wu, I still live in the attic."

"Alright then." Wu Mei didn't insist any further and carried the bag upstairs.

Seeing that Wu Mei was carrying so many things, and to prevent her from slipping, Ji Yuning followed closely behind Wu Mei, protecting her.

But Ji Yuning had another question in her mind: why did Fang Bai suddenly let her live on the second floor?

Once upstairs, Wu Mei stood in front of the door, turned to the side, and said to Ji Yuning, "Xiao Ji, open the door."

Ji Yuning assumed that Wu Meiteng was only letting her open the door because she wasn't going to help. After grunting in response, she shook off the jumbled thoughts in her mind and stepped forward to turn the doorknob.

If the conditions in the attic were bad, that was all due to later renovations. Fang Bai hadn't been careless with the attic's renovations; the door was exquisite. Ji Yuning would often glimpse the door and imagine the scene behind it that didn't match, deeply understanding what it meant to be all show and no substance.

But at this moment, Ji Yuning looked at everything unfamiliar in the room, and a look of surprise flashed across her usually expressionless face.

His brows furrowed involuntarily.

Then Wu Mei's smiling voice rang in my ears, "So, Xiao Ji, do you like it?"

The cardboard boxes piled up in the attic had been moved somewhere. After living there for three years, this was the first time Ji Yuning had seen the room in its entirety. It wasn't big, but it was more than enough for one person to live in.

The room is filled with pink, with gray walls covered in pink wallpaper. The small windows have been enlarged to twice their original size, and sunlight floods the room, illuminating almost every corner except for a few dark spots.

The curtains have two layers of sheer fabric, and when they sway, they create a dreamlike effect.

In the middle of the room, there was a huge double bed, the faded sheets and blankets replaced with pink Hello Kitty ones…

The pattern is exactly the same as the one Fang Bai picked up in the mall.

This is not her room.

How could such a clean place belong to her?

Ji Yuning was about to back away when Wu Mei blocked her way from behind.

Wu Mei assumed Ji Yuning was just too happy, so she pushed Ji Yuning into the room and said, "Miss knew you didn't live on the second floor, so she not only asked me to vacate the room on the second floor, but also hired workers to clean up the attic."

Did Fang Bai hire someone to clean it up?

Indeed, in this villa, besides Fang Bai, who else would modify this attic?

Ji Yuning's legs felt like lead, and she couldn't move her legs.

Wu Mei placed the things she was carrying on the sofa against the wall, where the bed used to be, but now it had been converted into a rest area with a sofa, coffee table, and a small bookshelf.

Wu Mei took the bag from Ji Yuning's hand and asked, "Xiao Ji, should I help you pack these, or will you do it yourself?"

Ji Yuning didn't answer, but instead asked, "Where are my things in my room?"

"Oh." Wu Mei thought for a moment and pointed to Ji Yuning, "They're all in that corner. I was going to help you tidy them up, but Miss said you should handle them yourself when you come back."

Ji Yuning looked in the direction Wu Mei was pointing. The view was blocked by the wardrobe. Ji Yuning licked her slightly dry lips and took two steps toward the corner.

Three worn-out cardboard boxes stood there, looking out of place against the backdrop of everything new in the room.

Wu Mei has lived for decades, and even if she's honest, she can now see that something is wrong with Ji Yuning.

She sighed silently, scratched her clothes a couple of times, walked over to Ji Yuning, and said, "Little Ji, Auntie knows you may not be able to accept it yet, but you should be able to tell that Miss has really changed. She changed ever since you had that fever."

Ji Yuning glanced at Wu Mei.

Wu Mei said, "Maybe Miss has figured things out herself and will stop making things difficult for you. Look, since last time, Miss has not only increased your living expenses but also bought you clothes and changed your living arrangements. Everything you need is taken care of."

Wu Mei knew she had no right to say such things, but she didn't know how long Fang Bai's kindness would last. Given the current situation, she could only advise Ji Yuning to enjoy the time Fang Bai was good to her, otherwise, after a while, Fang Bai would revert to his old ways…

"Xiao Ji, why don't you consider trying to please the young lady?"

Wu Mei was talking about pandering, not forgiving.

Ji Yuning turned around and looked at Wu Mei, "Aunt Wu, you..."

Wu Mei didn't know why she said those words. Perhaps she knew Ji Yuning was stubborn and was worried that she wouldn't accept the changes her mistress had made...

A hint of unease flashed across Wu Mei's face. She suddenly didn't know how to face Ji Yuning, and hurriedly said, "I still have something to do with Miss, I'll come back to help you tidy up later."

After saying that, Wu Mei quickly walked out of the room.

Ji Yuning was left alone, standing there.

Not long after Wu Mei left, Ji Yuning walked up to the three cardboard boxes and slowly placed her hand on them.

Upon opening it, the old things from the previous room came into view.

Just a few days ago, they were proof of their own efforts to survive in this world, but after being stuffed into a tattered cardboard box, each one became worthless.

Just like her.

The knocking interrupted Ji Yuning's thoughts.

Ji Yuning thought it would be Wu Mei knocking on the door, but when she opened the door and saw Fang Bai wearing a sapphire blue silk nightgown, Ji Yuning's hand on the doorknob tightened involuntarily.

The silk pajamas weren't particularly form-fitting, but they still clearly outlined her slender, fair figure.

The first thing Fang Bai did when he went upstairs was to wash off the smell of hot pot. After taking a shower, he grabbed a pair of pajamas and put them on because he was thinking of taking a nap.

While drying her hair, Wu Mei told her that Ji Yuning would continue to live in the attic and not in the room on the second floor. Although Fang Bai had expected this outcome, she still thought about going upstairs to take a look.

As a result, Fang Bai's hair was half-wet before he finished drying it.

Ji Yuning looked at a strand of hair clinging to Fang Bai's neck, alluring and lingering.

Ji Yuning said in a low voice, "Aunt Fang."

Fang Bai nodded, her voice gentle, as if afraid of startling Ji Yuning, and asked, "I've renovated your room, it's a princess room, do you like it?"

Fang Bai felt a slight itch on his neck, so he raised his fingers to brush away the strands of hair clinging to his neck and continued, "If you don't like it, you can tell me, and I'll have someone change it for you when you go to school this week."

As Fang Bai moved, Ji Yuning slowly shifted her gaze and looked up to meet Fang Bai's eyes.

“No need…” Ji Yuning paused, seemingly thinking about Fang Bai’s question from earlier. After thinking about it, she choked up and said, “This is fine as it is now.”

Fang Bai raised an eyebrow: "So that means you like him?"

"…Um."

"I'm glad you like it. All the effort I put into arranging this for you these past few days wasn't in vain."

Fang Bai deliberately made her point clear, wanting Ji Yuning to know her true feelings.

Clearly, Ji Yuning understood the meaning behind her words, because Fang Bai saw a very obvious change in Ji Yuning's eyes.

Fang Bai pretended not to see anything and chuckled, "May I come in?"

When Ji Yuning met Fang Bai's questioning gaze, she wondered to herself, "Was Fang Bai this polite when he came into my room last time?"

The answer is no.

Ji Yuning still remembered Fang Bai's hand that blocked the door that time, and she also remembered what Fang Bai said after entering the room, and what he did to her, which caused her to have a fever...
