1. Chapter 1
At ten o'clock in the morning, Chu Yi woke up in bed. Qiao Anchen had already gone to work. He always moved very quietly and would not disturb her at all.
She took two slices of toast from the refrigerator, heated them up, fried an egg, added ham, and poured herself a glass of milk. It was almost 10:30 when she started eating breakfast.
Chu Yi is a cartoonist whose works are serialized on a website, updated weekly, and whose working hours are flexible.
She started learning to draw from elementary school, studying sketching, watercolor, oil painting, and a little bit of everything.
After being introduced to comics in junior high school, she became completely obsessed. She not only loved reading them but also loved drawing them. While others filled the blank spaces in their textbooks with notes, she filled them with little drawings.
Through the art exam in high school, he barely made it into one of the top universities in Lancheng. Naturally, he applied for the art major because the university environment and free time were much freer than high school, giving him more time to do what he liked.
During my sophomore year, a comic I casually serialized online caught the eye of an editor, and not only was it successfully signed for publication, but it also garnered a considerable following.
Chu Yi is now a big name with hundreds of thousands of followers on Weibo, and the website where he serializes his comics is still the same one, only he has gone from being an unknown to a top-tier author on the site.
The income is also quite considerable. Right after graduating from university, I bought my own house and moved out of my family home. Since then, I have been a full-time homemaker and have never gone out to work.
She is 26 years old this year. She married Qiao Anchen through a blind date arranged by her family. They are now a month into their marriage.
At three o'clock in the afternoon, Chu Yi finished tidying up and started working. She had a separate study room, which Qiao Anchen specially prepared when she moved in.
Time flies when you're engrossed in painting. The sky outside the window gradually darkens, and the room becomes dim. She puts down her brush and picks up her phone from the table beside her.
There is a new message above.
Qiao Anchen: [Working overtime tonight, won't be home for dinner.] Chu Yi was used to it, her eyes lowered, her fingers typing quickly on the keyboard.
【OK.】
Scrolling up the chat history, the conversations between the two were mostly about trivial topics, with Qiao Anchen explaining his schedule to Chu Yi and Chu Yi giving polite replies.
After sending the message, Chu Yi stretched. Qiao Anchen ate almost all three meals at the procuratorate's canteen on weekdays. She leaned back in her chair, idly scrolling through the food delivery page on her phone.
After dinner, I worked for a while longer. The clock on the wall pointed to eight o'clock. Chu Yi finally got up, found his pajamas, and went to the bathroom to wash up.
Nighttime is her leisure time. Chu Yi likes to surf the Internet, watch silly videos, follow social hot topics, and update her watchlist, comics, and TV series. Her nightlife is fulfilling and enjoyable.
When Qiao Anchen pushed open the door and came in, Chu Yi was sitting on the sofa, staring intently at the TV screen. There was a plate of sliced apples in front of her, and she picked up a piece and put it in her mouth.
"Huh? You're back." Hearing the noise, she finally looked away from the big screen and landed on him, her eyes shining brightly under the lights.
Qiao Anchen hummed in agreement, then bent down to change his shoes while loosening his tie. He then took off his suit jacket and casually hung it on the coat rack.
He went to the kitchen, poured himself a glass of water, pressed his fair knuckles against the glass, tilted his head back and took two sips. His Adam's apple bobbed on his long neck, and his collarbones were faintly visible between the collars of his white shirt.
Chu Yi turned to look at him, tilted her head slightly, and asked, "How was work today?"
"Same as usual." Qiao Anchen looked a little tired, answered softly, and walked into the bedroom.
Soon, the sound of running water came from the bathroom. Qiao Anchen usually takes a shower as soon as he gets back, which seems to be a way for him to relieve his fatigue.
Chu Yi sat back down and continued watching TV.
Qiao Anchen has very few entertainment activities and is not very interested in electronic products such as mobile phones and televisions. He spends most of his day working, and at home he usually reads and rests.
He rarely touches his phone before bed, reads a few pages of a book and then goes to sleep. His self-discipline is frightening, which makes Chu Yi admire him greatly.
When the two slept in the same bed for the first time, Chu Yi was indeed surprised. In this day and age, there are still people who can fall asleep without playing on their phones. Compared to her habit of staying up late, it was simply a miracle.
But she later discovered that Qiao Anchen didn't actually use his phone much during the day; his dependence on electronic products was mostly manifested in his Kindle.
Qiao Anchen reads several books every month, including professional law books and some miscellaneous books, many of which he has never even heard of.
She often felt like an illiterate person who had studied for more than ten years.
After watching today's program update, it was already 10 p.m. Chu Yi yawned, turned off the TV, and prepared to go back to her room to rest.
The room was lit by a warm yellow light. Qiao Anchen, wearing a dark blue checkered pajama, leaned against the headboard, reading a book in his hand.
He wore frameless glasses, which softened his daytime calm and solemn demeanor, making him appear much gentler.
When Chu Yi saw the cover, it was a pure black background with an all-English title, and she didn't seem to recognize a single word.
It seems like I wasted my time taking the CET-6 (College English Test Band 6) in college.
"What book are you reading?" Chu Yi moved closer, climbed onto the bed, lifted the covers and snuggled next to him, blinking as she asked.
“A law-related book from abroad.” Qiao Anchen pushed up his glasses, his gaze never leaving the book.
Chu Yi said "oh" and turned around, then took out his phone to start surfing the internet for the new day.
Time passed slowly, and even time seemed to become still in the quiet night. Occasionally, the rustling sound of papers being turned could be heard in the air. The two were doing their own things and did not speak.
