Capítulo 70

"I didn't refuse to pick you up." Shen Moyu no longer avoided his gaze, looking deeply into Su Jinning's eyes.

That look seemed to be telling him...

You missed it.

Author's Note:

Su Jinning said the most cowardly things with the most arrogant attitude.

Chapter 27 Let's make up.

The two stared at each other for a long time, neither saying a word. "Huh?" Su Jinning opened her mouth slightly, not understanding what he meant.

"Ring ring—"

Before Shen Moyu could say anything, the silence was broken by the ringing of Su Jinning's cell phone.

"..." Shen Moyu pouted, watched Su Jinning answer the phone, lingered on him for a moment, and then turned and went back to the classroom.

"Xiao Ning, are you in class?" Su Yi's cautious voice came from the other end of the phone.

Su Jinning sighed, knowing that Su Yi was worried about interfering with his studies, but he still couldn't help but complain, "Dad, what kind of question is that? How can I answer the phone during class?"

"Ah, ah, that's right." Su Yi chuckled twice.

"What's wrong? Why are you calling me all of a sudden?" Su Jinning looked out the window at the crowds coming and going on the playground and said with a smile.

Because I know my dad, he wouldn't call me from school unless it was something very important.

Su Yi replied, "It's nothing serious. I bought you two sets of clothes at the store a couple of days ago. The staff said they'd be delivered soon. You can go to the security guard to pick them up."

"Huh? You bought me clothes again?" Upon hearing this, Su Jinning lowered her head as if disaster was imminent.

To others, it might seem like a good thing that a father often buys clothes for his child, but for Su Jinning, it was a nightmare.

He would never forget last year during the holiday when Su Yi mysteriously pulled out a bright red Want Want-patterned tight-fitting T-shirt from a box.

Su Jinning's smile immediately froze on her face. She stared at the dress as if it were a monster.

Finally, amidst his father and grandmother's loud praise, he was forced to wear it for a whole day, and he didn't take off his down jacket the entire time.

He only had one thought in his mind: It's fucking ugly.

What could he do? His dad bought it for him, so he couldn't just throw it away. In the end, it was all stored away at the bottom of a drawer.

"Hey kid, do you really think those pants and clothes you usually buy with holes in them look good? Go get them." Su Yi said, and hung up the phone before Su Jinning could even retort.

"Uh, I..." Su Jinning looked speechlessly at the contact whose contact was labeled 'Old Su'. She opened her lips several times but couldn't say anything.

This is arguably the most speechless thing in history.

But he couldn't disobey his father's orders, so he reluctantly went to get them anyway.

"Hey, class is about to start, hurry up and go back to class instead of wandering around." The gatekeeper reminded Su Jinning as he walked towards him, while taking out a cigarette from his pocket.

"I'm here to pick up something, I'll be right back." Su Jinning scratched her head and smiled, then went into the guardhouse.

The old man glanced at him without saying anything, gently lit his cigarette, and followed Su Jinning into the house.

Su Jinning looked up at him, then glanced at the quiet, deserted tree-lined road outside the gate, before pulling out her phone.

The gatekeeper scrutinized him for a while, then slapped his thigh and said, "Young man, aren't you the one who was sheltering from the rain at the gate yesterday?"

Su Jinning turned around in surprise, then smiled awkwardly: "Ah, it's me."

"You didn't catch a cold yesterday, did you? It was raining so hard." The gatekeeper took a puff of his cigarette and casually asked.

Su Jinning didn't avoid his casual conversation and subconsciously replied, "It's nothing."

"I told you to come into my house to take shelter from the rain, but you wouldn't listen and insisted on standing outside. Were you waiting for a friend?" the doorman asked, looking at Su Jinning.

Su Jinning couldn't help but feel that this old man was talking too much, but out of politeness, she still smiled and replied, "Yes, I'm waiting for my friend."

He lowered his head, waiting for his friend, and also because he was afraid that his friend wouldn't see him when he arrived, so he didn't go inside to take shelter from the rain.

"Which friend are you waiting for? Did they come to pick you up in their car, or did they come to the school later with an umbrella to find you?" The gatekeeper stubbed out his cigarette and looked at Su Jinning curiously.

As soon as the words left her mouth, Su Jinning was stunned.

He looked up, as if he hadn't understood what the old man said, and frowned as he asked, "What do you mean? Someone else is coming to pick me up?"

The gatekeeper looked at him with surprise, then raised his voice slightly: "Oh my, didn't you know that young man came to the school to look for you?"

The stray hairs on Su Jinning's forehead fell down with the breeze, making him look somewhat dazed.

His Adam's apple bobbed slowly, then, as if to confirm, he said, "You mean, besides the boy who picked me up in his car, there was also..."

He paused for a moment after saying this, then lowered his head as if asking himself, "Was there anyone else who came to pick me up?"

"Yes, it was about five minutes after you left. Oh my, it was raining so hard, and that little boy just walked into the school gate with an umbrella." The gatekeeper didn't look at Su Jinning's shocked expression. After thinking for a moment, he continued, "I was wondering what he was doing coming in. I was just about to go out and see when he fell down right here at the gate."

The gatekeeper gestured wildly as he spoke, his manner quite exaggerated: "I helped him up and asked him, 'What are you doing here in such heavy rain?' He said he was looking for someone. I thought to myself, 'You're the only one sheltering from the rain here,' so I said, 'You've already been taken away.'"

"Did you fall?" Su Jinning muttered to herself, her face pale, as if she had heard some very bad news.

He suddenly remembered the bloody wound on Shen Moyu's knee, and Shen Moyu's earnest words just now: "I didn't mean to leave you."

It was raining so hard, and he rushed over alone. What must he have felt when he learned that he had already been picked up?

Su Jinning could hardly imagine it.

"Hoo..." He exhaled with a trembling breath, then slowly closed his eyes and subconsciously licked his canine teeth.

"He...didn't he say anything to you?" Su Jinjing stared quietly at the long tree-lined road in front of her, her eyes somewhat unfocused.

"He didn't say anything, just slumped over and left." The gatekeeper pursed his lips, then looked at Su Jinning with a hint of reproach, muttering under his breath, "What a waste of time and effort."

Su Jinning heard it, but he didn't refute it.

The words the gatekeeper uttered unintentionally soaked him to the bone, much like the torrential rain of the previous night.

He didn't ask any more questions, and he already knew what had happened.
