Démon infernal - Chapitre 20

Chapitre 20

With a solemn expression, Gu Feng reached out and said, "Shi Xin, let's go."

Shixin asked, "Where are you going? Could it be that you've figured out where your uncle and aunt are?"

Gu Feng shook his head: "No, quick, let's go to the Cultural Bureau."

"The Cultural Affairs Bureau?"

Cultural Affairs Bureau.

Gu Feng greeted the old man as usual. Just as he was about to take out his money to buy a ticket, the old man suddenly asked, "Little Feng, what brings you here today?"

Gu Feng was stunned upon hearing this; the old man had never asked him this question before.

He said, "Why are you suddenly concerned about this, old man? I need to go and see that ancient corpse."

The old man shook his head and said, "It seems you've made a wasted trip today. The ancient corpse was personally escorted to Beijing by the bureau chief yesterday, and it's said to be going to be kept in the Palace Museum!"

The old man seemed to think it was an honorable thing.

If the ancient style is shaken up, what am I supposed to do?

What should I do next?

Gu Feng absentmindedly uttered an "Oh," and then said, "In that case, I'll be going now."

Looking at Gu Feng's strange expression, the old man thought, "This kid, how come he has no sense of collective honor at all? Our city has produced a national treasure, everyone should be happy, what kind of expression is that? Sigh, young people these days."

As the old man shook his head and sighed, Gu Feng and the other man had already walked far away.

Back at the funeral home, the group of people seemed to have dispersed as it got dark. The huge complex felt even more deserted. The place, which was already filled with a gloomy atmosphere, now made Shixin even more doubtful whether it was a place for humans to stay.

Volume 2, Chapter 27: Amulet

Shixin dared not go home because of this strange incident, and her father was away on a business trip (her mother had passed away early). Even though the funeral home was so gloomy, she preferred to stay here with Gufeng.

The distance from the door to the building isn't long, only about a hundred meters, but today Gu Feng was surprised to find that it seemed much longer? What should have been a few dozen seconds took more than a minute to reach the office building?

There's something strange about this place. This is my own home, and I know exactly how many steps it takes to get from one building to another. So what's going on here?

Shixin has only been here two or three times, and it seems she hasn't discovered this strange place.

Gu Feng shook his head in confusion, when suddenly he saw a white shadow flash by in front of him. Gu Feng looked for it and gradually a human figure appeared, which looked like a hunched old man.

Gu Feng called out, "Hey, who are you?"

The old man heard his shout and slowly turned his head.

Gu Feng was stunned. The old man's body hadn't moved at all, but his head had turned halfway around to face him. And that face… he recognized it. It was an old man named Wang Guizhuan, but hadn't he died half a year ago? And Gu Feng had personally lit the fire…

Gu Feng couldn't think straight anymore. He glanced at the green face and tried to close his eyes.

What's going on? Either you can't see anything at all, or if you can, why are there so many ghosts out of nowhere?

Shi Xin patted him on the shoulder: "Gu Feng, who are you talking to?"

Gu Feng opened his eyes in surprise.

Gone?

It was the same situation as last time when we were facing a coffin in the judo club.

Why? Why can only I see it?

Gu Feng wiped away a bead of cold sweat: "No, it's nothing, let's go inside quickly."

Why does it feel like the ground is moving? Gu Feng looked at his house, which was just a few steps away, but after walking for a while he still couldn't reach the edge, and this question arose in his mind.

Finally, his hand touched the doorknob, and Gu Feng gripped it tightly, as if afraid he would lose his grip and fall backward. Seeing his inexplicably nervous expression, Shi Xin chuckled and said, "Gu Feng, what's wrong with you? Are you afraid your house will run away?"

Gu Feng nodded solemnly. Shi Xin was startled; she had only been joking, so why had Gu Feng nodded? Strange!

Looking around at the dim surroundings, Shi Xin was genuinely frightened. Although she believed in the existence of "ghosts" and had encountered some strange things these past few days, like today, she had never actually met one. She had only imagined what it looked like. Now, seeing Gu Feng's expression and the shadowy figures all around her, her scalp tingled and she felt a chill run down her spine.

Gu Feng hurriedly opened the door.

I thought to myself that I shouldn't have said such things at this time; I was afraid I would scare Shixin.

Gu Feng helped the trembling woman sit on the sofa, and suddenly shouted that there was a white figure sitting on it.

Gu Feng was so frightened that he kept backing away. It was still a "person" he knew, a migrant worker named "Li Hua" who was killed by a falling brick from a high-rise building.

Shi Xin looked at Gu Feng with a panicked expression. He was staring blankly at the empty sofa with his mouth wide open, but she couldn't see anything.

Shi Xin could guess how surprised Gu Feng was when he saw that "thing"—his mouth, which could easily fit two eggs, said it all.

Looking at the empty hall, even though the door was closed, why did I feel a chill? A sinister aura!

She couldn't see anything, yet she knew that thing existed. Cold sweat kept sliding down her forehead as she tightly gripped Gu Feng's arm, afraid to let go.

The white figure moved.

The ethereal figure, seemingly within reach, gradually climbed the stairs and finally disappeared behind a door.

That was a room with an antique style.

Gu Feng was stunned for a long time before Shi Xin finally snapped out of it by grabbing his hand so hard it hurt.

A ghost? Another ghost!

Gu Feng helped the swaying Shi Xin and comforted her, "It's alright, Shi Xin, come, sit down here."

After confirming that there was nothing else on the sofa, Gu Feng helped Shi Xin to sit down. A replica of the "Mona Lisa" hung on the wall, her slightly upturned lips displaying a captivating smile.

Gu Feng suddenly noticed that her eyes moved slightly.

What happened? Gu Feng rubbed his eyes. When he looked again, they were back to normal.

Gu Feng knew he hadn't been seeing things, and not wanting to show his fear again and frighten Shi Xin, he tried his best not to look in that direction, adhering to the so-called 'out of sight, out of mind' principle.

Gu Feng knew this wasn't the time to be preoccupied with trivial matters, so he put his arm around Shi Xin's shoulder, letting her lean against him, hoping to help her get over the shadow as soon as possible.

But what about myself?

Known for his boldness, how could he not be afraid?

Gu Feng tried his best to remain calm, and the faint fragrance emanating from Shi Xin's body made him feel refreshed.

I can't let myself get scared. Shixin still needs my protection, and I need to find out exactly where Mom and Dad went. I can't fall apart, I absolutely can't.

A gust of cold wind blew past his ear, and Gu Feng shuddered. Shi Xin in his arms also twitched, clearly feeling threatened as well.

Gu Feng reached out to stop Shi Xin from turning around, steadied himself, and looked to the left.

If nothing unexpected happens, it should be another white blur. That's what Gu Feng was thinking.

But……

There was nothing there; the painting was still hanging there, but there was nothing there at all.

"ah!"

Shixin let out a scream.

Gu Feng turned around, and another ashen face appeared on his right.

Shih-hsin saw it too!

Gu Feng couldn't recognize him because most of his face had disappeared; he could only vaguely make out that he was a burly man.

Could it be the person whose head was crushed by a car after Old Zheng burned it with fire last time?

Without giving Gu Feng a moment's hesitation, it wasn't as polite as the previous two. It startled Shi Xin, who rushed towards Gu Feng without stopping.

Gu Feng quickly stood up and led the trembling Shi Xin to the side.

"Whoosh!"

The sofa was knocked over.

It is actually a physical entity?

Gu Feng stared at him solemnly. "It?" (Let's use "it" to refer to the ghost from now on; Yuehan believes the third-person pronoun "he" is more appropriate for a human.)

Seeing Shixin trembling gave him a feeling that no matter what, he had to protect her!

It's here. A gaping maw, like a blood-red basin, coupled with a twisted, gray, deathly face, charged at Gu Feng once more. Gu Feng's steps faltered; he stumbled, tripping and falling to the ground along with Shi Xin.

Gu Feng felt a chill run down his spine, and at the last moment, he desperately shielded Shi Xin with his body...

This time it's all over," Gu Feng thought, his eyes tightly shut.

"Buzz"

The familiar sound rang in my ears again.

Gu Feng opened his eyes, and a dazzling yellow-gold light suddenly burst forth from his chest, spreading outwards in an unstoppable manner. The "ghost" that was touched immediately changed from a solid to a void, roared, and turned into ashes.

Gu Feng stared blankly at everything until the golden light dissipated and everything returned to normal. It was only after a while, when Shi Xin, unable to bear his weight any longer, let out a muffled thud, that he snapped out of his daze.

Gu Feng quickly apologized and stepped aside, then reached into his chest and pulled out a dark yellow amulet.

Volume 2, Chapter 28: Sealed Demon Mountain

Gu Feng looked at it in confusion. He had worn this amulet ever since he could remember. Although he had often thought of taking it off because he did not believe in ghosts and gods, he kept it at his mother's insistence.

I'd never noticed anything special about it before, but now that it's saved me twice, I have to take a closer look.

A soaring dragon pattern was embroidered on the dark yellow cloth, neat and exquisite, clearly hand-embroidered. In the very center were several tiny figures, which, upon closer inspection, could be vaguely discerned as the words "The Demon-Sealing Ancestor Suppresses All Evils".

Inside was a bulging lump of something. Gu Feng remembered his mother telling him that if he opened it, it would lose its power, so he gave up the idea of finding out what it was.

Looking at those words, Gu Feng, who was at a loss, seemed to have suddenly found a lifeline.

Go to Fengmo Mountain.

Looking for my maternal grandfather!

But……

As far back as I can remember, my parents never took me to my maternal grandfather's house. Apart from the trip my mother told me when I was two years old, I had no idea what my grandfather looked like.

There was still no clue where Fengmo Mountain was. The few directions they managed to find seemed so elusive and impossible to follow.

Just as Gu Feng was feeling lost and disappointed, the iron gate outside suddenly slammed shut with a loud "bang..."
