Kapitel 19

After negotiations failed, the sniper shattered the windshield of the car.

The next second.

Several large trucks suddenly opened their doors, but it was impossible to see who did it. Yu An only saw that the trucks were full of zombies, all of whom jumped out.

These are several vehicles transporting zombies.

The light shone down, and for a fleeting moment, Yu An saw an old woman at the very back. He remembered this old woman.

Not long ago, in the same car, she knelt on the ground, begging the man in the car not to throw her grandson off.

She turned into a zombie.

Yu An's heart was pounding. Before he could react, Da Tou, who was not far away, suddenly jumped down.

"Big Head!"

Yu An rushed over.

There are too many zombies this time. Even if he gets beaten to death by the zombie horde, he still won't be able to get the lion's share back!

Just as he was about to pounce, Tang Xin quickly grabbed him and reassured him, "Don't worry, Xie Chiyuan isn't going to feed the zombies! Don't worry, he can handle it!"

Yu An: "..."

Yu An was confused: "What Xie Chiyuan?"

Isn't that his big head that jumped down?

Chapter 14

In a flash, Yu An glanced at Tang Xin's tense face, then looked down at Xie Chiyuan who had already jumped down, and a certain string in his mind snapped.

"Da Tou is Xie Chiyuan."

He stared blankly, this realization making him feel as if he had been struck by lightning. A sense of shame suddenly surged from the tip of his heart and swept through every cell in his body.

Tang Xin was puzzled and was still nervously observing his situation.

The next second.

Yu An clung to the wall, wishing he could feed himself to the zombies. Tang Xin was holding him by the back of his collar, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't jump down.

"Didn't I just give you a guarantee? Why don't you believe me?"

Tang Xin sighed, "It seems you truly love Xie Chiyuan. He went down to fight some zombies, and you're so worried you'd want to commit suicide for him."

Yu An: "..."

Yu An struggled even more violently.

Let him die!

He really has no face left to live this time!

Although Tang Xin was a doctor, he was also a former soldier. He was extremely strong, and he grabbed Yu An by the collar, making it impossible for the latter to break free.

Yu An couldn't leave, so he could only stay where he was and keep looking down.

He wasn't the only one watching; everyone was staring down at the trucks filled with zombies, their bodies painted with their own unique markings.

"This is a truck from Base 5."

The existing living quarters are all numbered. Yu An remembers that Base No. 5 was the base Pei Si was going to send him to.

However, he fell off the vehicle on the way and failed to reach the base.

The current base is number 6. It's the base that Yu An and his friends arrived at after getting lost for a few days.

The zombies below roared and lunged at Xie Chiyuan, while others clearly tried to bypass him and crash into the base's gate.

Xie Chiyuan drew his bone blade, his originally dark eyes now tinged with blood.

Yu An was searching for the child amidst the dense horde of zombies. He had seen the child's grandmother in the car earlier, so was the child here too?

In the gaps between his searching glances, he occasionally caught a glimpse of Xie Chiyuan's figure, and his heart would tremble.

The sharp, snow-white bone blade was splattered with the blood of zombies. Xie Chiyuan, who was blocking all the zombies with his own body, stood against the light at the foot of the wall.

Yu An's fingers dug into the plaster on the wall as he asked in a muffled voice, "Why didn't you go help him?"

With so many zombies, Xie Chiyuan was all alone.

Upon hearing his words, Tang Xin quickly explained, "It's nighttime now. If we send a small team down, and they get infected, it could very well spread into the base."

"Besides, your partner can handle this kind of situation."

Yu An: "..."

Yu An kept a straight face and clarified, "He's not my boyfriend, you've misunderstood. I have absolutely no relationship with him."

Tang Xin: "Oh?"

Tang Xin lowered her voice and leaned close to his ear: "Are you two having a fight? Did that old bastard Xie Chiyuan bully you?"

Tang Xin had known Xie Chiyuan for a long time, and in front of outsiders, he would call him "Commander Xie" when he was in a good mood. In private, however, he would often call him by his full name.

Of course, when someone needs a life-saving treatment, they can call out "Brother Xie," "Father Xie," and "Ancestor Xie" very smoothly.

Yu An tried to explain, "I really have nothing to do with him, we're not a couple."

He has always lived in the research institute and rarely goes out. He has never been in a relationship.

Tang Xin didn't believe his explanation. There was no other boy besides the one in front of him who could be carried back by Xie Chiyuan himself and carried for so long.

As the two were talking, Xie Chiyuan had already taken control of the area below. Several truckloads of zombies were now all lying on the ground, some with their heads blown off, others completely decapitated.

"Dr. Tang, all the residents in the base have been settled in." Someone rushed up and reported to Tang Xin: "Everyone is resting in their rooms right now, and there have been no injuries."

Tang Xin hummed in agreement.

He looked down and saw that it was almost finished.

Just as he was about to make arrangements, Yu An suddenly called out to him: "Do you know where Xie Chiyuan went to carry out his mission ten days ago?"

"He also cut off an octopus tentacle in that spot."

When the octopus was mentioned, Tang Xin immediately remembered: "He cut it in the old city of Ruins of Yu. I was going to ask him to bring me some, I haven't had seafood in a long time."

"He came back and said that he did bring it, but he gave it to someone else."

Tang Xin paused mid-sentence, then asked, "That box of seafood... could it have been given to you?"

Yu An remained silent.

He pulled a long face and became unhappy with Dr. Tang, who wanted to eat seafood.

Even though the little eight-legged creature's tentacles can regenerate, they can't withstand being cut off! Besides, the little eight-legged creature is just a little temperamental; it's not inherently bad.

"Don't let him cut your seafood anymore."

Yu An said to him, "Seafood isn't very good. If you want something to eat, I can dig some potatoes for you."

Tang Xin pondered for two seconds.

He felt that Yu An seemed to be jealous.

"Okay, I'll remember that. I definitely won't make such unreasonable demands again." Tang Xin was both flexible and assertive, stating with a righteous expression that she and Xie Chiyuan were only in a superior-subordinate relationship.

The cleaning is nearing its end.

Having obtained crucial information, Yu An decided not to appear before Xie Chiyuan again.

"Send a team of men, armed. Go down and dispose of the bodies, and inspect the recovery truck." Before Tang Xin could finish speaking, the people familiar with the procedures had already removed their protective suits.

The corpses of zombies must be destroyed and buried in a timely manner; otherwise, leaving them at the entrance of the base will attract some strange creatures with their stench.

Yu An looked at the protective suit and hesitated as she was about to leave.

Not long after.

A group of people who had gone to dispose of the bodies left one after another. Xie Chiyuan pulled up a chair that hadn't been put away and sat down. He wasn't wearing protective clothing, and his black casual clothes were stained with blood.

Yu An was completely wrapped in a protective suit. When she passed by Xie Chiyuan, she was almost tripped by his long, outstretched leg.

Be careful.

Xie Chiyuan wiped the bone blade while sitting here, which also provided some protection for the people handling the corpses.

He killed several truckloads of zombies; he couldn't possibly haul them all away and bury them one by one. That kind of workload would kill even a beast.

Yu An didn't speak. He kept his head down and followed closely behind his older brother.

The zombies were in terrible condition, and Xie Chiyuan's combat prowess, whether dealing with zombies or mutants, was unlike that of a normal person.

At least for normal people, no one can draw their weapon from behind their back.

Xie Chiyuan came from the military, and his deeds of killing zombies and eliminating deformities were enough to make everyone regard him as their guardian angel.

Yu An didn't dare to look at Xie Chiyuan even once.

He searched for the old woman's body, while also looking for any children's bodies.

I searched for a long time.

Yu An didn't see any children. He diligently carried the bodies towards the temporary cremation site, which was nearby.

Zombies are just like people; once they're burned, they're just ashes.

"Just lift his foot and apply a little force." Yu An's partner was a middle-aged man with a kind and honest voice.

The older man held up the zombie's head, while Yu An held up its feet.

The two worked together and carried the zombie several times. On the fourth trip, the uncle noticed that Yu An's arms were almost exhausted, so before Yu An could even lift his feet, he simply hoisted the zombie onto his back.

"You can move it like this."

The middle-aged man chuckled and said, "Judging from your build, you're not very old, are you? I have a son who's sixteen. I wonder which of you two is older?"
