Mordgemälde - Kapitel 4

Kapitel 4

"No, there must be another option. Tell me, Your Highness, please tell me..."

No. At least as far as I know, no.

"As far as you know? So that means someone else might know?" Feng Nian'en raised her face eagerly. "That means there must be a method, it just hasn't been discovered yet. As long as we find it, as long as we find it, we can..."

"Give up on that idea!" Cangya said bluntly. "The vampires have existed for much longer than you think. If there were a way to find out, it would have been done long ago. And the Prince is one of the oldest members of the vampire clan. If he doesn't know, no one else could possibly know."

These cold, heartless words did not calm Feng Nian'en down. He continued to mutter as if possessed: "Just find it, just find it..."

Even if you had one, there's no way you could find it!

Feng Nian'en ignored Cangya's sarcastic remarks and looked at the prince with enthusiasm.

"You want to find this impossible possibility?"

Give me a chance.

"What opportunity? Letting you join the vampire clan now is already an immense stroke of luck for you. What more opportunity do you need!"

If Ruoya hadn't stopped him, Cangya would have charged forward again.

"Please, Your Highness, give me a chance. Even if it's impossible, please let me try. Please, let me try."

The pleading voice was choked with sobs, almost a cry.

"……All right."

"Your Highness!" Cangya angrily rushed past Ruoya's obstruction. "You cannot agree to this! He is my junior!"

"How long do you need?" The calm face remained fixed on Feng Nian'en, who was bowing her head in pleading.

Feng Nian'en raised her head, unable to believe that she could receive the favor she wanted so quickly.

"I can't let you keep trying indefinitely, give me some time."

"Your Highness!" Cangya shouted angrily, "You can't do this! I won't allow you to agree to this request!"

"Three, three years, just give me three years. I promise if I still can't find someone in three years, I'll come back and officially join you. I promise!"

“Three years isn’t a long time. However…” The prince looked at Feng Nian’en’s panicked face and smiled, “I can keep other vampires away from you for these three years, but you must understand that this also means you are no longer under my clan’s protection. You will have to hide alone from the hunters who are pursuing us and the violent members who roam the land. You haven’t yet learned how to use vampire abilities, and to them you are as fragile as an infant. You could very well lose your life within these three years. Now, do you still want this opportunity?”

"Yes, yes, I know, I know. I, I will be careful."

"Then you can leave now."

"Now?" Feng Nian'en looked at the prince with some disbelief. The prince nodded to him. "Thank you! Thank you. I will cherish this opportunity and I will keep my promise."

“You know, boy,” the prince ruffled his short hair, “the right choice for you is to stay here, learn how to protect yourself under the guidance of your elders, and then go look for that impossible possibility.”

"Why let him go! Why did you agree to his request!"

Cangya roared angrily at the prince.

Why can't we let him go?

"I am his elder sister!"

“But I am your prince.”

A gentle smile appeared on his lips.

“Cangya, he will still come back. He can’t find any other way. Give him some time to calm down and experience the advantages of being a vampire, and he will naturally come back.”

"Naturally? Hmph!"

"Even if you lock him up here and tie him up, he still won't comply. Even if you force him to comply, what's the point? Besides, do you want to create another Yi Ya?"

Even Cangya felt a chill when he thought of that violent vampire who murdered his own family.

"Then just give him six months. I'll lift the confinement after six months."

The gentle smile deepened: "I mean, I don't want anyone to bother him, but will you listen?"

Cangya laughed too, but he still muttered, "Who knows if he'll be killed by something during this time? That guy may be ugly, but he's still my junior. If I let him die like this, I'll be laughed to death."

"Regarding this," the prince said, looking at Ruoya who had returned from outside, "I think you have absolutely nothing to worry about."

*************************

It took Feng Nian'en a while to figure out where he was after Ruoya escorted him out the door. He wasn't unfamiliar with this place; on the contrary, it was one of the streets he knew best. That's why he couldn't believe that the vampire's residence was on the same street as the Zhang family's mansion.

From the outside, the house, though huge, was not particularly eye-catching. Who would have thought that the interior was so luxurious, and who would have thought that the people living in such a house were not human!

Feng Nian'en swung his weak legs. The alluring sunset made him feel a little uncomfortable, but not unbearable.

He needed to see his father first. But how could he explain his disappearance over the past few days?

As he was thinking, he heard a horn behind him and moved slightly to the side of the road.

Did you fall into a valley? No! That place is flat land.

He was carried off by a wild beast? What kind of wild beast would roam around the city and be able to carry off a strong, young man who is 1.8 meters tall?

He was kidnapped? How did he escape? What did the kidnappers look like?

He came up with several reasons, but none of them could make sense.

Besides, he had no injuries, and even the tooth mark had disappeared.

"I can't exactly say that I was kidnapped by a group of alien creatures and taken to the spaceship, can I?"

Feng Nian'en shook his head dejectedly. Concentrating on finding a reason, he didn't notice someone standing in front of him until he almost bumped into them.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to." He looked up. "Miss?"

"Idiot? Idiot! Idiot..."

Zhang Hanwen slowly reached out and touched Feng Nian'en's face: "Idiot?"

"Miss?"

Feng Nian'en blinked, unable to connect the haggard face before her with the Zhang Hanwen she remembered. Even when he had a high fever, his face possessed a sickly beauty.

"Idiot! Idiot! Idiot!..."

Zhang Hanwen cried out repeatedly and rushed into Feng Nian'en's arms, hugging him tightly.

Feng Nian'en stood there dumbfounded, and after a long pause, she hesitantly asked, "What happened, Miss?"

As if the soft question were a thunderclap, Zhang Hanwen suddenly pushed Feng Nian'en away, turned around, and said coldly, "Where have you run off to?"

"ah?"

"What?! I'm asking you where you've been all this time!" Zhang Hanwen suddenly turned around, glaring at him fiercely. "You've been missing for four days! Where have you been all these four days?!"

“I…I don’t know…” Feng Nian’en stammered, her eyes darting around. “I…I don’t know that I…I was ever missing.”

"You don't know?" Zhang Hanwen roared. "You were missing for four days, and you come back and tell me you don't know?"

"Yes, yes." He licked his lips. "I... I have absolutely no recollection of it. I... I only remember going to find the lady, and then... then seeing a ball of light, and then I have no recollection of anything else..."

"You don't remember?"

He nodded quickly, "Really, I really forgot."

"Really?" Zhang Hanwen glanced at him sideways. "You haven't really been abducted by aliens, have you?"

Feng Nian'en's face turned bright red. He chuckled dryly and mumbled incoherently, his words barely audible even to himself.

"Hmph! I don't care if you were kidnapped by aliens or not, even if you were eaten by wolves, it's none of my business. But aliens really have good taste in kidnapping you."

Feng Nian'en could hear the angry sarcasm in Zhang Hanwen's voice, and he knew that Zhang Hanwen did not believe his story. He lowered his head and looked at the two indistinguishable shadows on the ground, and felt a strange sense of comfort.

"Get in the car."

Zhang Hanwen suddenly turned around and said, and Feng Nian'en followed him with her head down without saying a word.

"Where are you going now?" Sitting in the car, Zhang Hanwen didn't start the engine immediately.

Feng Nian'en looked up, his expression somewhat bewildered. Where was he supposed to go? The world was so vast, but was there any place for him under this sun?

Before he could answer, Zhang Hanwen said, "I didn't tell Uncle Feng about your disappearance."

Feng Nian'en was taken aback, then immediately said, "Thank you!"

"Do you think I did this to avoid worrying Uncle Feng?" Zhang Hanwen curled his lip. "I just don't want to take responsibility."

Whatever the reason, this is a good thing for Feng Nian'en now, as he is worried about how to face his father.

Feng Nian'en has no idols, but if one had to pick one, it would probably be his father, Feng Mingqian. Although he spent his childhood in the countryside with his grandmother, Feng Mingqian's words, actions, and conduct subtly influenced him.

Before this accident, his greatest hope was to become like Feng Mingqian—self-disciplined, upright, and honest, earning his due reward through his own labor.

He could lie to Zhang Hanwen, but he couldn't just tell the same lie to Feng Mingqian.

"Have you decided yet? Do you want to go back to see Uncle Feng or go back to your doghouse?"

“If possible, I’d like to go back and rest first.” He looked at the roof of the Zhang family mansion, which was faintly visible. “Since Dad won’t worry about me, I’d like to come see him again in a couple of days.”

"I suggest you go see a doctor." Zhang Hanwen turned the car around. "Your face is as white as a vampire's."

Feng Nian'en stiffened, chuckled dryly, rubbed her face, and said as if to emphasize something, "Maybe, maybe it's because I didn't sleep well, I'm fine."

"Didn't sleep well?" Zhang Hanwen glanced at him.

"I, I mean, I was feeling a bit tired, so I guess it might be because I haven't been getting enough rest these past few days."

"Yeah?"

“Yes, yes,” Feng Nian’en nodded quickly, then chuckled awkwardly, “Could it be that I’ve really become a vampire?”

Zhang Hanwen chuckled coldly twice and said nothing more.

The two did not speak again until they reached Feng Nian'en's residence.

"Thank you, miss."

He was about to get off the bus when he said that.

Looking in the rearview mirror, Zhang Hanwen seemed to be talking to himself as he said, "Why doesn't anyone tell idiots that they're never suited to lying?"

Feng Nian'en's right leg stopped in mid-air. After a moment, he gently stepped onto the ground. Seeing that Zhang Hanwen didn't say anything more, he slowly turned around and walked unsteadily into the corridor. He didn't hear the engine start until he entered the elevator.

Are simpletons not suited to lying?
