außer Kontrolle - Kapitel 5
After being locked up together for a while, we at least became familiar with each other, and the atmosphere wasn't as tense as when we first came in. Sometimes we would chat for a bit. However, Kou Yun only spoke to me.
Kou Yun, that's the girl. Ever since I helped her out of that predicament, she's developed a certain dependence on me, and she never responds to anyone else who speaks to her. This is a reasonable reward for a hero saving a damsel in distress, alas, but now this hero is in dire straits himself, how pathetic.
"Brother, why did you come in?" she asked me softly.
She's called me that ever since the first time she spoke to me, it's made my heart flutter. She's such a sweet and innocent girl. If she met someone who watches too many Korean dramas, they'd definitely call her "Uncle."
I already know why she was arrested. She was hungry and stole a few loaves of bread. Normally, if she returned them, the store might not have bothered with her. But then, a patrolman happened to come in to buy bread...
However, thefts involving such small sums of money are unlikely to be prosecuted; at most, the victim will be detained for ten or twenty days and then deported.
Kou Yun is a very clever girl. She only asked this question after we had gotten to know each other quite well.
So I didn't plan to make that throat-cutting gesture to scare her.
Second, brothers and sisters charge together (6)
"Because I was found next to a dead man."
The sentence was a bit convoluted, but Kou Yun reacted quickly: "Ah, so you've been wrongly accused of being the murderer, brother."
"Heh, brother, you've been wrongly imprisoned, haven't you?" the square-faced man said.
"Don't try to fool the little girl, I still remember when you first came in, tsk tsk, you really did look a bit fierce," the bald man said.
"Brother, you'll be out soon, and you should have figured things out by now, right?" Kou Yun looked at me, and to my surprise, I could clearly hear the concern in her tone.
I remained silent for a long time, then slowly shook my head.
"Not necessarily, the current evidence is very unfavorable to me."
Kou Yun opened his mouth as if to say something, but then he heard someone shouting outside.
"Kou Yun!"
The sound of a key turning, and then the iron gate opened.
"You're being interrogated," the guard said, leading Kou Yun away.
The iron gate slammed shut, shutting out Kou Yun's figure, and my heart skipped a beat.
Kou Yun will be able to leave soon, but when will I be able to leave?
It's been three days since I called Liang Yingwu that day. Liang Yingwu's efficiency always surprises me, but until now, I haven't heard a word from him. I originally thought that at least yesterday, he should have made some move, even if he couldn't get me out, he would at least send a message to put my mind at ease.
What kind of difficulties and obstacles did he encounter?
Or perhaps I'm being too impatient?
I leaned against the wall, staring blankly at the terrazzo floor, and before I knew it, an hour had passed.
"Hurry up, what are you dawdling for?" came the shout from the guard outside.
"What are you looking around for? If you're so curious, we'll extend your confinement for a few more days!"
The iron gate opened, and Kou Yun was pushed inside.
"Are we about to leave?" I asked after she sat down next to me.
"I don't know, they didn't tell me." She pouted.
"Brother, can you tell me?" Kou Yun asked.
"What?"
"Is someone trying to harm you? Otherwise, why would the police believe you killed them?"
I don't intend to hide it. It's also very painful to keep this inexplicable murder case to myself. If she wants to hear it, I'll tell her.
In this small cell, no one could hide my voice, so I didn't bother to lower it, and the other four people heard my story.
At first it was fine, but later the four people clearly showed disbelief on their faces.
However, Kou Yun listened very attentively from beginning to end. I think she probably didn't agree with it either, but was just too embarrassed to show it. Oh well, hearing it this way makes me feel a little better.
"A great story, isn't it?" I smiled.
"Brother, I believe you." Kou Yun ignored my self-deprecation and looked into my eyes as he spoke softly.
I smiled again.
Whether I believe it or not, what difference does it make to me?
I just hope Liang Yingwu can be quick and efficient. We've been friends for so many years, so let's give him a big boost!
But it seems he's helped me a lot.
Despite two more nights of bombardment from the cleft lip patient, Liang Yingwu still hadn't made a single move.
This is definitely not normal.
My hope dwindled little by little. What went wrong? With the power behind Liang Yingwu, how could he not even manage to send a message? How was that possible?
That's just how frustrating it is.
That afternoon, Cleft Lip was taken out for questioning again. He had committed robbery in the middle of the night, punching the man twice, rupturing his spleen and nearly killing him; the man was still seriously injured and lying in the hospital. This was a serious crime, and he also had an accomplice, but Cleft Lip was tight-lipped and refused to reveal anything about the other man.
Without the cleft lip, the cell felt noticeably more spacious; this guy was constantly putting pressure on others, day and night.
I suddenly felt that something was different in this room. I looked around and realized that Kou Yun was not with me.
She started running to the iron gate and peering out through the window above, her face pressed against it.
I saw her looking around for a long time, and I couldn't help but ask, "What are you looking at?"
Kou Yun turned around and smiled at me: "Nothing, I just wanted to look outside."
"Don't worry, you should be able to get out soon."
Kou Yun smiled again and continued reading.
Girls' thoughts are so unpredictable. I decided to ignore her.
About an hour later, suddenly some loud noises came from outside.
"Brother, come quick!" Kou Yun called out to me.
I rushed forward, and she made way for me to see. Baldy and the others also ran up after me.
I was stunned when I saw it.
How could such a thing happen!
The guard lay on the ground, his head covered in blood. A man with a cleft lip stood beside him, stunned. But he hadn't done it. The large brass lamp that should have hung high from the corridor ceiling was now lying next to the guard. It was a heavy object, weighing at least ten pounds with its metal shade, and had struck the guard on the head; he appeared to be unconscious.
He fell backward to the ground, and the set of keys he had been holding to open the prison door fell to the ground beside him.
After a few seconds of stunned silence, the man with the cleft lip suddenly squatted down, took the gun from the guard's holster, picked up the key, and was about to run out.
"Bang, bang, bang!" The bald man pounded on the iron gate.
Second, brothers and sisters charge together (7)
The man with the cleft lip stopped, looked around, then ran back and opened not only our cell door, but all five cell doors in the row.
The bald man charged out fiercely, knocking me off balance, and then the square-faced man and the hook-nosed man also darted out.
Kou Yun took my hand.
"Let's go!" she said, and ran outside.
At that moment, twenty or thirty people surged out of the corridor, and I was swept along, following Kou Yun as they ran outside.
At that moment, the cleft lip had already opened the second iron gate, and then I heard a gunshot.
The flow of people who had been silently running out stirred slightly, but did not stop.
Then another sound was heard, it sounded like a cleft lip firing a gun.
For some reason, there were surprisingly few police officers in the detention center. I saw a policeman lying on the ground clutching his left rib; it wasn't a fatal injury. I also caught a glimpse of one or two other figures in police uniforms, but that was about it.
The fallen policeman struggled to retrieve his gun from its holster, but the man running ahead of me kicked him in the wrist, sending the gun flying. In this chaotic scene, everyone was rushing out, and no one cared about finding the gun; it was like a surging, turbid current, violently flowing outwards.
A flash of light appeared before my eyes, and I had already run out of the detention center.
Prisoners in detention centers are usually not handcuffed, and when this happens, there's usually a cheer, and then they disperse in all directions.
Kou Yun grabbed my hand and ran like a light deer. Amidst the exclamations and sidelong glances of passersby, she turned several corners, veered into a small road, and in the blink of an eye, she had run several kilometers.
We turned into a small alley leading to another road, and after we were quite a distance from the detention center, Kou Yun finally let go of my hand and stopped.
I bent over, supporting myself with my hands on my bent knees, panting heavily, each breath feeling like it was draining the air from my lungs.
After a long while, I raised my head and looked at Kou Yun, who was still not straightening up, and only then did I realize what I had done.
I escaped from prison!
Third, the mysterious younger sister who came up to us (1)
A week ago, I was a journalist, or as some call it, an uncrowned king. A week later, I'm a fugitive.
What should we do next?
I have never been so completely clueless as I am now.
Why did you run away with them back then? This is not the same as running a red light after someone else. Herd mentality can kill you. If you run away, who will believe you didn't kill someone? You'll also be charged with the serious crime of escaping from prison.
But should I go back and turn myself in? I'm not willing to do that. I've finally stood in the sunshine of freedom. I've never felt the gentle breeze on my face so comfortable before.
I was hesitant and conflicted, unsure of what to do next, and I looked rather lost and anxious. I was standing in front of a public restroom, and my lingering there gave the impression that I wanted to go in but was afraid to, and soon some people started casting suspicious glances at me.
"Uncle, the one with the pipe over there is the men's restroom," a kind elementary school student ran over and told me.
"Ah, oh, oh, umm." I then realized that I was lingering in front of the women's restroom, but I couldn't explain it to the child in a serious manner, so I had to run away.
The cute little girl's commotion drew even more attention, making me want to just run away. But I couldn't; I had to hold back. I forced myself to avoid looking towards the women's restroom, inwardly cursing that little girl, Kou, for taking so long in one restroom. Was she playing house in there?
