Chapter 18

Grandma comforted him, saying, "Your grandfather-in-law wrote books when he was young, but publishers wouldn't even glance at them. He didn't publish his first book until he was over forty. Look at how many people are scrambling to get film and television rights now."

Xi Jia asked, "Grandma, you know about film and television copyrights too?"

Grandma pointed at Mo Yushen, "He didn't just go for the copyright; he even made a special trip to the mountains and I heard he went fishing with Lao Yue."

Xi Jia nodded, realizing that it was something Mo Yushen had told her.

Grandma peeled a mangosteen and handed it to Xi Jia, saying, "Jia Jia, just relax. Maybe one day your script will become famous. Then, even if you go fishing at sea, Yu Shen will be able to swim over and snatch the copyright."

Mo Yushen sipped his tea and glanced at Xi Jia.

Xi Jia smiled, "Grandma, I appreciate your kind words. Maybe my dream will come true."

The food is already laid out in the restaurant.

They moved over there.

During the meal, Grandma asked, "Yushen, when are you planning to have your wedding? You said it would be winter in the spring, and now it's almost here. You should start making preparations."

Xi Jia silently looked at Mo Yushen.

Mo Yushen paused slightly with his chopsticks. "I've been busy lately, let's talk about it later."

Grandma sighed inwardly, "If you don't want your family to attend, you can go abroad with Jiajia, find a church you like, hire a pastor, and invite three or five friends. That would be a nice wedding."

Xi Jia was completely confused. Did she not want her family to participate?

What does it mean to realize something only after it's happened?

On the way here, when his parents were mentioned, he avoided talking about them.

The reason why they only registered their marriage but did not hold a wedding was not because Mo Yushen was at odds with his father. Both Mo Yushen and Xi Jia had planned to divorce after six months.

To appease his family's pressure to get married, he and Xi Jia decided to tie the knot on their very first meeting. They had no feelings for each other at the time and had even signed a divorce agreement. The wedding plans were thus put on hold.

Grandma was still talking about the wedding, saying, "Don't you young people like different kinds of weddings? You and Jiajia should have a good talk about it."

Mo Yushen grunted in response.

After the meal, Mo Yushen went upstairs to the study with his grandfather.

Grandpa sat at his desk, which was covered with pens, ink, and books.

Mo Yushen poured his grandfather a glass of water and placed it in his hand. He didn't sit down; instead, he stood by the window with his hands in his pockets. From the second floor, all one could see was their own yard.

The moon is bright and the stars are few.

A ring of clouds surrounded the crescent moon.

It's very thin and has an exceptionally cool feel to it.

Mo Yushen knew what his grandfather wanted to do, but he didn't say anything first.

I don't want to mention it.

Grandpa said embarrassedly, "Your father is confused, don't take it to heart. No matter what, the Mo family business is yours."

Mo Yushen was always cold-hearted, except towards his grandparents, who raised him single-handedly.

Regarding the Mo Group, he can only give it to others if he wants to; if he doesn't want to, no one can gain any advantage.

Grandpa has a good eye for people, and besides, he knows his own child well. In terms of vision and methods, Chairman Mo is still a bit lacking compared to Mo Yushen.

"Yu Shen, whatever you want to do, Grandpa will support you. But don't let things get so deadlocked that there's no room for maneuver."

Mo Yushen turned around and said, "Grandpa, I know what I'm doing."

At 9:30, Mo Yushen and Xi Jia left the old house.

On the way back, I passed by that sycamore-lined path again, and it was also incredibly congested this time.

When stuck in traffic, Mo Yushen took off his ring, took out the ring box from the armrest box, and put it inside.

Xi Jia turned her head and saw this scene, then looked at his face.

Mo Yushen handed the ring box to her.

Xi Jia knew that this meant she should put her ring in there too, to use as a prop when they went to her grandparents' house next time. She pretended not to understand, and instead of taking off her own ring, she picked up his ring, saying, "How pretentious. Well, I'll put it on for you then."

With that, she slipped the ring onto his ring finger. "From now on, you're mine."

Mo Yushen looked at the ring, then at Xi Jia.

Xi Jia leaned back lazily in her chair and gave him a flirtatious wink.

The car behind honked its horn.

Mo Yushen drove the car to keep up with the traffic ahead.

Even after arriving home, Mo Yushen did not take off the ring.

He wore it even when he took a shower later.

Chapter Twelve

Mo Yushen came out of the bathroom, and Xi Jia was lying on the bed taking notes, her brows furrowed from time to time, absorbed and serious.

Mo Yushen walked to the other side of the bed and turned on the floor lamp.

Xi Jia turned her face away.

Mo Yushen was buttoning his pajamas, having casually fastened a few buttons. He lifted the covers, about to get into bed.

"Hey, wait a minute," Xi Jia said.

Mo Yushen, clutching the corner of the blanket, paused, staring at her in bewilderment.

Xi Jia rested her chin on her hand, looking extremely languid. With her other hand, she used a pen to brush her chin, her gaze falling on his abs, and below that, his V-line. "With you like this, I have reason to believe that you're seducing me."

Mo Yushen knew that she didn't have anything serious to do.

Ignoring Xi Jia, he leaned against the headboard and, as usual, read a book before going to sleep.

Xi Jia laughed, then crawled over to him, pushed him toward the edge of the bed, took his pillow, and lay down on it to take notes.

Her father instructed her to write down the important things that happened during the day before going to bed each night, so that if she forgot them the next day, she could easily find them by flipping through her notebook.

Mo Yushen was squeezed to the bedside by Xi Jia.

When Xi Jia was writing while lying down, her arms were resting on his thighs, and she couldn't get any strength in her wrists, so she simply spread the notebook out on his lap.

Mo Yushen lowered his eyes, just watching how she would cause trouble.

Xi Jia sat cross-legged, using Mo Yushen's legs as a desk, and began writing.

He laid his legs flat on the bed as a desk, but it was too low, and the distance between his notebook and his eyes was uncomfortable. After writing a few lines, his neck started to ache.

She reached out and rubbed it.

"husband."

"explain."

"Won't my writing posture cause insufficient blood supply to the brain?"

Mo Yushen didn't respond and continued reading.

Xi Jia muttered to herself, "My brain is already not very good. If I lose blood, I'll forget even myself."

Mo Yushen was turning the page when his hand paused.

Xi Jia looked around and found no place to write. She patted Mo Yushen's leg and said, "Honey, curl your legs up and I'll put them on your knees to write."

Mo Yushen had never seen such a restless woman. Instead of using the readily available workbench, she insisted on writing notes on the bed, which he ignored.

Xi Jia slapped his knee twice forcefully.

Mo Yu looked at her intently, his gaze devoid of warmth, though not particularly sharp either.

Xi Jia hit him a few more times.

Mo Yushen remained unmoved.

When force didn't work, Xi Jia tried a softer approach. She put down her pen and notebook, nestled against his chest, gently nuzzled his chin, and looked innocent.

Mo Yushen acted as if he hadn't seen it at all.

She acted coquettishly, while he read his book.

Seeing that he remained unmoved, Xi Jia used her fingers to tease his lips.

Mo Yushen grabbed her arm; her eyes were mischievous.

Without a word, Mo Yushen finally compromised and bent his knees.

Xi Jia succeeded and immediately sat up straight.

Mo Yushen, feeling listless, turned another page of the book, his arms empty.

Xi Jia folded the blanket into a rectangle and placed it on Mo Yushen's knees.

She got up, turned her back to Mo Yushen, and straddled his strong waist and abdomen. Her notebook was spread out on the blanket on his lap. This was the right desk for her.

Xi Jia started taking notes, looking serious once again.

She's the kind of person who's shameless and takes advantage of kindness.

Mo Yushen looked at her back, and he could tell from her back how smug she was.

Xi Jia wore a backless cherry blossom pink nightgown tonight, just a thin layer.

Her slender waist was clearly visible.

Even the cherry blossom pink was overshadowed by her fair complexion.

Her sitting posture, straddling a man's waist and abdomen, is the most dangerous thing a man could do.

Mo Yushen looked away, unable to concentrate on his book. He folded up the corner of the book and casually placed it on the bedside table.

For a time, there was nothing to do.

"How much longer will it take to get better?" Mo Yushen asked.

Xi Jia suddenly turned around and smiled slightly, "It's early."
