Ghost Stories
Volume 1, Chapter 1: Not Believing in Ghosts
In this world, 70% of people don't believe in the existence of ghosts and gods, even if they listen to scary ghost stories and watch terrifying horror movies every day...
Gu Feng is one of the 70% who don't believe in ghosts, and it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that he is one of the best among them. He has the courage to watch a dead person burn to ashes in a funeral home without changing his expression, and he also has the courage to spend a night alone in a gloomy haunted house.
It wasn't that he wasn't afraid, it was just that he believed there was no such thing as an alien form in the world.
Among his friends, most were Buddhists or Christians, and they were always terrified of ghost stories. Even though Gu Feng had repeatedly proven with facts that the so-called haunted houses and vengeful spirits were false, they were still afraid. They usually treated Gu Feng like a brother, but once they heard any supernatural rumors, Gu Feng would go and tear off the mask, and then they would disappear without a trace.
Gu Feng is quite a well-known figure in the city. Besides his father being the director of the city's only funeral home, his boldness is also a major factor in his fame.
Autumn had arrived, but at midday, the bustling street still exuded a fiery atmosphere. People came and went, and three young men emerged from the famous KFC chicken wing stall. The handsome young man in the middle, wearing a short-sleeved shirt, was our protagonist.
Gu Feng, 22 years old, 1.78 meters tall, hobbies: reading, adventure, uncovering ghost masks.
Gu Feng has a pair of very clear and bright eyes. Although he has some acne scars on his face, it cannot change the fact that he is handsome.
The two people next to him were a heavy, kind-looking fat man known as "Cat." Gu Feng didn't know where the nickname came from; when he met Cat in junior high, everyone called him that too. But he always wondered why Cat was so heavy; calling him Pig would have been fine too. How could he be associated with a cat? But now he was used to it, and changing the nickname would probably feel awkward.
The other one, his physique... calling him fat would be too much, calling him strong would be too heavy. He's known as "Brother Pancake," but in front of Gu Feng, he wouldn't dare to be presumptuous. Calling him "Little Pancake" is already a compliment.
Ah Mao seemed a little unsatisfied with his lunch of five chicken wings, three sausages, and two hamburgers. Chewing on the grease left on his hands, he said helplessly, "I should have known better than to return that hamburger from Xiaobing."
Little Biscuit said, "I asked you if you wanted some just now and you said no, and now you're complaining here."
Ah Mao: "Things these days are getting less and less substantial. Back in the day, a two-yuan pineapple bun could last me a whole day. Now, even eating something this big and expensive isn't enough to fill my teeth."
Little Pancake laughed and said, "Hehe, who told you to evolve so fast? Pigs can never compare to humans in terms of appetite!"
Ah Mao snorted and said, "You're not much better. Loosen your belt a bit, or it'll break."
Gu Feng suddenly clapped his hands and said, "Oh no, isn't today the 16th? We have to take the exam. Let's hurry to the dojo, I need to break through to the third dan."
Ah Mao suddenly realized, "Ah, I almost forgot! Our judo club has our belt test today, I think it's at 2 PM. Oh no, I'm running late, get out of here!"
Don't be fooled by Ah Mao's jiggling movements when he runs; his speed is truly impressive. Before he could even finish speaking, he was already more than ten meters away.
The Sando dojo is seven or eight kilometers away from here, so running there is out of the question. What they need to catch is the bus that runs every half hour. However, they also understand that if they miss the bus in a minute, they will not be able to get to the dojo before two o'clock.
Ah Mao could vaguely picture himself lying on the ground, writhing in pain with nowhere to go, being punished by the bishop nicknamed "Black Gorilla" with an over-the-shoulder throw.
"Hello, hello, hello~~~~~"
It was only a few seconds off. Gu Feng recognized the driver; he would never stop for someone who was late.
"What do we do now?" Xiaobing stared at Gu Feng, sweating profusely. He was always arrogant, relying on Gu Feng to come up with some amazing ideas in times of crisis.
Gu Feng reached into his pocket, pulled out three yuan, and said, "This is all I have. How can it be enough for a taxi?"
They searched their pockets again and again, and in the end they only had eleven yuan in total, just enough for one person's bus fare.
Xiaobing scolded Ah Mao in his usual half-joking, half-reprimanding tone: "You damn cat, I told you not to eat so much, now we don't have money for the bus, it's all your fault."
Cat asked in surprise, "How...how does this concern me again? Who knew it would turn out like this?"
Little Pancake: "You still dare to say that..."
Gu Feng soothed, "Alright, stop arguing. Since Xiao Bing is in such a hurry, this is just enough for the fare. Take it!" He then turned to A Mao and asked, "You don't have any objections, do you?"
Ah Mao must have struggled a lot in his heart, but in the end he still nodded reluctantly.
Xiaobing suddenly cursed, "Bastards, what kind of person do you take me for? Would I do something so disloyal as to abandon my friends for personal pleasure?"
Gu Feng said dejectedly, "What can we do? Just wait to die together? My coach is alright, but I heard that the chimpanzees over there are not easy to deal with."
Why!!!
Suddenly, a sigh came from behind.
Gu Feng was startled and turned around to see an old man wearing sunglasses.
"Why is the old man sighing for no reason?" Gu Feng asked.
The old man looked up at the sky and examined Gu Feng carefully for a while before saying in a deep voice, "Young brother, you were born with a pure yang energy, which should have made you immune to all ghosts for life. However, you did not understand the danger and stayed in a cold and yin place for a long time, which caused your yang energy to be severely depleted and you are on the verge of exhaustion."
Gu Feng didn't let him finish speaking, raised his hand, and chuckled, "I thought it was something else! Just another old fortune teller swindler."
The old man remained unmoved by Gu Feng's words, saying, "Whether you believe it or not is up to you, but I advise you, 'things will turn around when they reach their extreme.'"
Gu Feng asked, bewildered, "What do you mean?"
The old man said slowly, "Your past actions have long attracted s
