Atavismo - Capítulo 4
Ah Mao shook his head and said, "This job is not suitable for me, Brother Feng, don't joke around."
Gu Feng said, "The lights are about to go out, why aren't you home? What are you doing here?"
Ah Mao chuckled slyly, "There's a pretty girl in our department who says she really admires Brother Feng, but she's too shy to come over herself, so she asked me to take a couple of pictures of you."
Gu Feng was about to mock them, saying, "With just those three big characters on your Judo Club name, where would you find any decent girls?" But considering Shi Xin was around, he generously said, "Since that's the case, then hurry up and take the picture, and get out of here. This place isn't for a loser like you."
Ah Mao pulled a novel-looking camera out of his pocket, began to move around, and prepared to take a picture.
"Click!"
It wasn't the sound of a camera shutter; the vast dojo suddenly went dark—it was time to turn off the lights.
Cat was so startled that he almost dropped the camera in his hand.
He glanced back at the coffin behind him and said in a trembling voice, "Brother Feng, I'm going to take the picture!"
Gu Feng suddenly asked, "Wait a minute, is the ISO sensitivity of your camera high?"
Ah Mao said, "What ISO? This isn't a digital camera!"
Gu Feng exclaimed in surprise, "I'm speechless! Where did you find such a novel point-and-shoot camera?"
Ah Mao examined the camera in his hand carefully and asked doubtfully, "Really? This is the camera that the girl taught me to use."
Gu Feng said, "Since it's film, it should be able to take a picture. Cat, don't use the flash."
Ah Mao asked, "Why? The streetlights outside are dim, and it's not very clear from here."
Gu Feng chuckled strangely, "You know that."
Ah Mao was about to ask me what I knew, but then suddenly remembered that if we took photos with flash in this spot, Gu Feng's acne scars would be especially noticeable. Gu Feng had warned himself and Xiao Bing about this time and again, but now he had almost forgotten.
"Oh, oh, I understand, just don't use the flash."
Shixin said, "What are you guys up to? It's so dark, how are we supposed to take pictures without a flash?"
Gu Feng smiled and said, "Heavenly secrets cannot be revealed."
Shi Xin scoffed, "If you don't want to say, then don't say. Why be so mysterious?"
Seeing that Ah Mao was ready to start, they stepped aside.
Gu Feng sat alone in that corner, facing the camera with what he considered a rather handsome smile, when suddenly a cold current surged from his left. The moment he pressed the shutter, he abandoned his original pose and looked to the left.
It was empty and desolate, but there was a chill that seemed to suddenly gather around me.
Ah Mao complained, "What's going on? The film costs money, you know."
Gu Feng waved his hand and said, "Sorry, sorry, let's do it again."
Ah Mao continued to point the camera at himself, but Gu Feng unconsciously kept glancing to his left, a feeling rising inexplicably in his heart that someone was sitting next to him...

Volume 1, Chapter 5: First Encounter with a Ghost
Amao was extremely dissatisfied with Gu Feng's lack of cooperation and shouted, "Stop moving, okay!"
Gu Feng was taken aback and looked at him. Ah Mao quickly pressed the shutter button.
"Alright, two should be enough. Feng, what's wrong with you today? You promised and then deliberately caused trouble, that's not like you."
Gu Feng didn't know how to express his feelings, so he said, "It's nothing! Now that you're done, hurry up and hand it in, or you might get caught by a ghost."
Originally, I wanted to scare Ah Mao, but when I mentioned the word "ghost," a chill suddenly ran down my spine, and I glanced to the left again.
Ah Mao said, "This is no joke, Brother Feng, I'm outta here."
"He runs faster than a pig. No, how can a pig compare to him?" Gu Feng exclaimed, watching Ah Mao disappear quickly through the door.
Shixin smiled and asked, "What happened to you just now?"
She gradually walked to where she had been, to the left of Gu Feng, and was about to sit down.
Gu Feng exclaimed, "Don't sit down!"
Shixin asked curiously, "What's wrong?"
Gu Feng looked at her solemnly: "Don't sit."
Shixin glanced at the strange ancient style, then finally walked to the right and sat down against the wall.
"Didn't you feel it?" Gu Feng asked her.
Shi Xin frowned and said, "What do you feel? You're acting all neurotic."
Gu Feng thought something was wrong. The cold air was still there, but Shi Xin was about to sit down just now, so why didn't she feel it? Could it be that he was just being paranoid?
"It's nothing, it might really be my problem!"
Shixin touched his head and said, "You don't have a fever, what's wrong with you?"
Gu Feng said awkwardly, "I should be fine after resting for a while!"
The strange feeling in his heart continued to grow stronger, and goosebumps were faintly rising on his left arm, which was covered in short sleeves. This was a feeling he had never had before. Even though he usually stayed up all night guarding the morgue or burning corpses, he felt disgusted, but he had never felt this kind of terror. He could clearly feel "his" presence, but it was as if he was blind and could not see anything.
Gu Feng could no longer bear the pressure in his heart; he had never experienced such "fear" before.
He desperately wanted to escape this place, but Shixin was right there beside him. To relieve the pressure, he stood up and walked straight toward the coffin.
The narrow crack I saw during the day had somehow closed up.
Gu Feng found a way to hold back and secretly exerted his strength.
"Gu Feng, what are you doing?" Shi Xin called out, covering her face with her hands.
Gu Feng laughed and said, "Don't you find it strange that a coffin buried for so long still smells of decay!"
"It is strange, but it's nighttime!"
"I told you not to come."
Shixin forced herself to peek through her fingers, only to find the area around the coffin completely empty...
Where has the traditional Chinese style gone?
Just as I turned my head to look, I suddenly heard a "Hey!" sound as someone patted me on the left.
"Ah!" A scream that exceeded 100 decibels carried far into the student dormitory, causing quite a commotion.
Gu Feng looked at Shi Xin, who was screaming with her eyes closed, in surprise, and said, "Hey! It's me! Are you kidding me? Since you won't let me open the coffin, is it worth being this scared if I just sit down next to you again?"
Shi Xin didn't dare to open her eyes for a long time. Seeing that it was indeed Gu Feng, she felt relieved and then shouted, "What are you doing! People can scare each other to death!"
Gu Feng apologized, "I'm so sorry, I didn't know you were such a coward."
Shixin slapped him: "What do you mean I'm a coward! It's just that you were really scary, okay?"
Gu Feng laughed and said, "Alright! Just kidding."
Shixin asked, "Do you really want to open the coffin?"
Gu Feng nodded without hesitation.
"Then go drive it!"
"I think we should forget about it."
"Why?"
"Aren't you afraid?"
Shi Xin said, "You scared me so much that I'm curious to see what's inside the coffin."
Gu Feng clapped his hands and said, "Then I'll go drive it! Don't scream anymore!"
Shih-hsin laughed and said, "Where are the screams coming from!"
Gu Feng laughed and said, "You still say there isn't one? If there were anyone in the dorm who wasn't afraid of ghosts like me, they would definitely come down and see for themselves."
Shixin snorted.
Gu Feng focused his mind and placed his hands on the coffin lid, gradually exerting force until it moved slightly with a "click".
Gu Feng tried his best to lift it up.
Suddenly, a white figure appeared on top of the coffin.
"Don't open it!!!" A strange, muffled voice reached his ears, and Gu Feng cried out in surprise, falling backward to the ground.
Shixin looked at her strangely: "What's wrong? Are you afraid to drive it?"
Gu Feng did not answer him and continued to look at the coffin.
"Disappeared," Gu Feng murmured to himself.
Shi Xin followed his gaze to the coffin: "What disappeared? What are you talking about?"
Gu Feng stared incredulously at the empty coffin lid, recalling the ethereal white figure that had been on it just a few seconds before.
"Didn't you see? Just now."
"What do you see! What's that?"
"Then you must have heard it, right? That sound!"
Shi Xin looked at him suspiciously: "Where's the sound? You...you're not seeing a ghost, are you?"
When Shixin mentioned seeing ghosts, she felt a chill and looked around at the darkness in fear.
Gu Feng was stunned upon hearing this. He couldn't help but recall the old man he had met at the station at noon, and his words—words that he had once scoffed at.
“
Your past actions have long attracted some evil spirits. If your vital energy truly dissipates, then it's only a matter of time before a hundred ghosts come to claim your life and a thousand calamities befall you."
Could it be that what the old man said was true? No way! There are no ghosts in this world! But just now… I must have been seeing things! Seeing things. But that sound, the tinnitus, yes, yes, it's probably from being in that room with the air conditioning on for so long these past few days! I didn't see anything, I didn't hear anything, Shixin can vouch for me, it must be my eyes and my ears, it must be. It's okay, nothing happened, nothing at all!
Gu Feng thought this with his eyes tightly closed, then opened them again. Indeed, there was nothing there. He gradually calmed down.
Shi Xin opened her eyes wide and looked around warily. Gu Feng stepped forward and was surprised to find that the sixth-level expert in front of him was trembling slightly!
Feeling a pang of pity, Gu Feng took her hand and comforted her, "What's wrong? Are you scared? I was just kidding! Look how frightened you are!"
"You...you really scared me just now?"
Gu Feng looked at her solemnly and said against his will, "Of course, who am I, Gu Feng? Even if there really are ghosts in the world, they wouldn't dare to come after me."
