Sueños Florales en la Ciudad - Capítulo 28

Capítulo 28

"But I...I'm still scared..."

This guy is all bullshit; talking to him is just a waste of time!

“You walk across the bridge!”

Zhu Huihui glared at him angrily: "Why am I being sent? If you're going to kill someone, just do it directly. Don't try to use someone else to do it! Do you think he can't see through it?"

"Do you think the enemy wants to kill you or me?"

"Kill you!" The answer was resolute, then the voice softened, "But they think I'm in cahoots with you, so they won't let me go either." Besides, they think he's in their way, so the first thing they'll do is kill him—that's what happened last night.

"That's why I need you to cross the bridge first."

"No!" Zhu Huihui shouted angrily. Trying to use me as bait? No way!

Feng Xuese felt helpless. There was no reasoning with this coward. Just putting the sword to his little black neck was better than saying anything.

Feng Xuese inspected the iron chains along the pier and found that this side was undamaged, just as he had expected. He placed his sword directly against Zhu Huihui's neck and said, "Either cross the bridge, or you lie here!"

Zhu Huihui was both shocked and furious, and cursed, "Go to hell!"

Feng Xuese wasn't annoyed; she simply drew her sword from its sheath with a "clang."

The sword, reflecting the rising sun, was icy cold, so intense that it caused small pockmarks to rise on Zhu Huihui's neck, and his eyes were blinded by its sharpness.

He covered his neck with both hands, turned around without saying a word, and walked towards the pier, swallowing his anger.

Feng Xuese couldn't help but smile slightly. Although it wasn't very nice to bully someone... a pushover, well, who told this guy to be stubborn and not responsive to gentleness! Hehe! His greatest strength was that he would never engage in pointless arguments.

Reaching the edge of the pier, Zhu Huihui glanced down at the cliff, then immediately looked back down. The bottom was unfathomable, and just looking at it made him dizzy. The thought that the bridge might be cut down halfway down made his heart tremble. His feet felt like they didn't belong to him, and he refused to step onto the pier no matter what.

Maple-colored index finger lightly flicked the back of the sword, producing a sound like a dragon's roar.

Zhu Huihui knew this was a warning to her, so she gritted her teeth, closed her eyes, and finally stepped onto the pier.

The suspended pier was suddenly subjected to an external force and immediately began to sway.

Zhu Huihui was so frightened that she almost lost her mind. She immediately lay down. Although she was so scared that she wet her pants, tears still streamed down her face.

He turned and glanced at Feng Xuese, then said with heartbreaking grief, "Farewell, hero!"

When Feng Xuese saw the pair of dark eyes filled with tears hidden behind the disheveled hair, her heart softened slightly for some reason. She turned her head and softly murmured "Mmm".

"If... unfortunately I do... well, please take care of my Huahua. Just give her some food occasionally, but don't let her get too fat, or someone might target her and then braise her..."

Feng Xuese chuckled: "Don't worry! I'll take care of that pig, but I think it'll taste better as steamed pork with rice flour than braised." He tapped the iron chain of the pier with his sword to show his impatience.

"Waaah, Flower, I'm so sorry!"

Zhu Huihui dared not make any more excuses to delay, so she had to crawl forward on all fours with a mournful face—the bridge was swaying, so crawling was the safest way!

As he crawled slowly forward, he nervously pondered: If I were the assassin, how would I plan this ambush?

The broken bridge would be the easiest option! But the iron chains at this end of the bridge are intact, so those people must have started from the other side, waiting for me to climb to the middle before cutting the bridge. The outcome is terrifying, but as long as I hold onto the chains, I might not fall to my death!

However, why did Feng Xuese let him cross first? It wasn't just to make him the one to stick his neck out! Well, because the assassins mainly wanted to kill him. As long as he didn't cross the bridge, the assassins wouldn't cut the bridge cables. Otherwise, if Feng Xuese couldn't cross the bridge, what would be the point of their killing spree?

So, the real danger for me is after I cross the bridge—they won't attack right after I cross; they'll lull Feng Xuese into a false sense of security, pretend there's no ambush here, let him cross to the middle of the bridge, and then the enemy will come out and wipe us both out...

If that's the case, how should I deal with it? Or what if the enemy has set up ambushes on both sides of the bridge? Wouldn't I be even more helpless then?

He was in a state of panic and couldn't come up with a good idea, but he was getting closer and closer to the other side of the bridge!

Thirty zhang... twenty-five zhang... twenty zhang... fifteen zhang...

Sweat began to bead on Zhu Huihui's forehead. He knew that once he stepped onto land, it would be his death, but he still had no choice but to crawl forward. He really wanted to stay on the bridge forever...

He raised his hand, wiped his forehead, and looked ahead with wide eyes.

The opposite mountain peaks were close at hand, shrouded in a thin mist, with lush trees and a simple thatched pavilion nestled among them. There was nothing unusual about it; it was as quiet as could be.

Zhu Huihui suddenly felt emboldened.

Damn! Why are you scaring yourself like that?! Assassins, ambushes—it's all just Grandpa Feng's guess. Maybe there's nothing there at all!

Thinking of this, he felt a surge of energy and quickened his pace to climb ashore. This bridge was probably also called the Bridge of Helplessness; it was definitely not a place for humans to cross…

Less than ten feet from the summit, I suddenly felt a gentle breeze brush past me. I looked up in surprise and saw a snow-white figure flash past me and then leap to the summit.

Suddenly, several people leaped out from the bushes on the mountaintop. Feng Xue Se let out a clear whistle, her long sword already drawn, and stood in front of the pier, her sleeves fluttering as she fought with the group.

Zhu Huihui lay on the pier, clutching his head and groaning incessantly. Grandpa Feng hadn't been wrong; there really was an ambush on the other side! And they were all acquaintances—the Twelve Zodiac Envoys from the Bloodstained Tower yesterday!

The twelve men advanced and retreated in turn, wielding long weapons and short blades, and using soft ropes in their hands, their coordination was excellent. Zhu Huihui's gaze followed Feng Xuese's figure, and soon he was dazzled by the sight. He had to admit that although Master Feng's clothes were no longer very white, his figure was graceful and otherworldly, and he was really handsome!

Given the current situation, should he climb to the top or continue lying on the bridge? Both options seem dangerous...

With a "thud," something fell in front of him. Zhu Huihui was startled, gripping the swaying ropes tightly. Looking closely, he saw it was the demon woman who had once tried to gouge out his eyes—the Serpent Envoy!

Zhu Huihui cried out "Oh no!" and scrambled back a dozen steps. Looking back, she saw that the snake envoy hadn't chased after her at all; he was just curled up on the bridge plank, staring at her with eyes as wide as a bull's, his body twisted in a strange position, completely still.

Zhu Huihui's mind raced, and she crawled back two steps: "Beautiful sister, are you feeling unwell?"
