Yuepo lowered his head. Moyu's gaze also shifted to him.
Yongye had been waiting for this moment. She suddenly leaped up, the steel wire in her hand already pressed against the old lady's throat, and smiled, "You family don't need to push each other around. Even though I've lost my internal strength, I can still kill people."
Mo Yu and Yue Po were stunned; neither of them had expected that Yong Ye could actually move.
“Moon Soul, you don’t need to use poison anymore. I guarantee that before your body becomes too weak, this steel wire will pierce your mother’s throat.” Yongye smiled, his hands covered in bloodstains from the steel wire.
"Release my mother, and I'll let you go down the mountain," Yuepo's voice was infinitely weary.
There was no chance left; there was truly no chance for him and her to reconcile. Even if he didn't want to bring up the hatred anymore and led the people of Youli Valley to live peacefully in the mountains, she would never return to his side.
“Li Yongye, my brother treated you so well, and you’re heartless! I killed Princess Rose. We infiltrated the Xibo Autumn Festival to lure you here, and I poisoned her! My brother knew nothing about it! I was also the one who poisoned and set up crossbowmen in An Boping’s villa! I’ve always wanted to kill you, so come at me!” Mo Yu roared.
Yongye was taken aback. Yuepo stared at her hand, his gaze not meeting hers.
He didn't kill Rose? Why doesn't he explain? Yongye smiled bitterly. Moyu was the idiot brother he always talked about. What explanation could he possibly give? Did he expect her to kill his beloved brother to avenge Rose?
Yongye's heart felt like one lock had been unlocked, only to be locked again, a painful, aching ache emanating from it. Tears welled in her eyes: "It's too late... No matter who killed her, Rose can't come back to life! She can't come back to life, do you understand?"
Yongye roared, "Get out of the way!"
It was too late. The moment he imprisoned Rose, there was no going back. He shattered the most beautiful hope in her heart. Whether he now uses the people of Youli Valley as assassins or not, whether he wants to retreat to the mountains for a leisurely life, the warm, radiant moon in her heart is gone.
She and Yuepo were only two zhang apart, yet they seemed like they were at opposite ends of the earth, one at the edge of the sky and the other at the corner of the sea. No matter how close they had once been, how deep their affection, they had gone their separate ways. The distance between them had widened, and there would never be another chance for them to be together again.
Yongye pushed the old lady forward a step. The old lady, who was standing in front of him, suddenly went limp and fell to the ground.
Yongye was startled. Yuepo and Moyu rushed over, crying out. The old lady's knife was plunged into her lower abdomen, with only the hilt sticking out. Blood gushed out like a tide, instantly staining the altar red.
“She…will bring disaster…leave this place.” The old lady’s gaze lingered on Moyu and Yuepo’s faces. When she saw the blood spilling over the altar, she smiled. “Your father died on this altar. He…built this altar with his blood…and so did I.”
The old lady closed her eyes and passed away.
Mo Yu embraced the old lady and wept bitterly. Yue Po knelt beside her, his face contorted horribly, and he looked up at Yong Ye. He stared at her face like that, his gaze like a knife, filled with resentment and sorrow.
Yongye was startled and slowly backed away, not wanting to kill his mother.
Rose died at Mo Yu's hands, but she was imprisoned by him because she discovered the secret of Yue Po. He crippled her inner strength, yet he wanted to marry her. His mother didn't die at her hands, but because of her... Yong Ye could no longer distinguish who owed whom, or who had harmed whom.
She screamed and ran desperately towards the cave exit. She just wanted to get as far away from him as possible and never see him again.
A glimpse of red clothing flashed by, and Yue Po stood in front of her, saying nothing, but still staring at her with that same look.
"So... your martial arts are this good!" she murmured. So his martial arts were this good! "What else isn't a lie?!" The last vestiges of affection in Yongye's heart vanished like a house blown to pieces. He had been lying to her all along. Even knowing he was the Valley Master of Youli Valley, she always felt he had been coerced, that it wasn't his own choice.
Rose's death haunted her, but Moon's deception caused her even deeper pain.
A person can be so terrifying when they become ferocious. Yuepo's handsome face was almost distorted by pain. He pressed her forward step by step, and Yongye couldn't help but retreat until she had nowhere left to go and leaned against the mountain wall.
Yuepo slowly reached out to grab her, but Yongye pulled his hand over his shoulder and threw him away. In the blink of an eye, he leaped back in front of her and smiled calmly: "It's no use that you can move."
Yongye turned and kicked out, his ankle instantly gripping Yuepo's hand. With a light swing, Yongye fell onto the stone platform.
"Moyu, take Mother with you. I will come after I have performed the rites for her."
Mo Yu wiped away her tears, picked up the old lady, turned the mechanism and went inside, turning back to say, "Brother, you still have me! Don't abandon me too."
Moon Soul smiled: "When did I ever stop caring about you? Listen to me and leave, and I'll come looking for you."
Yongye scrambled to her feet, panting. She was grimacing from the fall and, upon hearing Yuepo say she was going to sacrifice her, she retreated in terror.
Moon Soul strode over, grabbed Eternal Night, dragged him to the pillar, and tied him up.
"You want my blood? Slash me in the left arm, the vein closest to my heart. One cut, and I'll bleed to death in no time. Or, cut me in the neck, and I guarantee you'll splatter blood!" Knowing she couldn't escape, Yongye calmed herself. Perhaps, this life was meant to be a trial. Betrayed twice, perhaps the next life would be better.
Yuepo cupped her face in his hands; it was a face that pierced his heart. For her, he had betrayed his hatred, his parents, and the Valley of Wandering. She was the person he had always wanted to protect. He had destroyed her happiness, but hadn't she also destroyed his?
"Beauty is a curse! I've said it before, and my mother said the same thing..."
He held her chin and slowly lowered his head to kiss Yongye's lips. His lips were as hot as fire, as if they wanted to burn away everything in the world that stood in his way.
Yongye passively tilted her head back, wishing she could bite off his tongue. Yuepo seemed oblivious to the pain, stubbornly refusing to give up. The two bit each other like two wild beasts until their mouths were full of blood, making it impossible to tell who had bitten whom.
He finally calmed down, carefully touching Yongye's lips, finding a trace of blood. His lips were vibrant, without any visible wound. Was it his blood? Why didn't he feel any pain?
The way she looked at him was so unfamiliar, so unfamiliar that he dared not approach her again. It was as if if he hugged her again, she would sprout sharp thorns and pierce him a thousand times over.
“Go ahead and do it! I’ve been to the Underworld, where blood-red spider lilies bloom. I finally understand that they are watered with blood. Let me pick one more flower, no, I’ll pick them all! So that I’ll remember this and never trust anyone again in my next life!” Yongye practically spat out these words through gritted teeth.
He swallowed the blood from Yuepo's mouth. What kind of hatred could make her hate even into the next life? The Underworld? If, as she said, one could pluck a spider lily in the Underworld to remember this life, he would pick all those flowers.
He could kill her with a single blow, ending it all. The image of Xinghun as a child, and her face as an adult, overlapped before his eyes. Did he really want to kill her?
Moon Soul smiled bitterly: "How could I kill you... I'd rather kill myself. He'll find you. The vial of blood you gave him restored his power, didn't it? I wanted to crush your hand then! I still couldn't bear to... Star Soul, I thought Star Moon could be together forever, but alas, you'd rather fall for him than stay by my side any longer..."
Yuepo turned and opened the stone door mechanism. Walking to the door, he glanced back at her; she was wearing a red wedding dress. She should have been his bride, but he could no longer take her away. Yuepo said in a hoarse voice, "There will never be another Youli Valley in this world." He resolutely walked through the stone door.
Only Yongye remained in the vast cave.
She stared blankly as the figure in red disappeared through the stone gate, never to be seen again. She didn't know what she was feeling; it was as if she had suddenly felt empty. She knew that she would never see him again in this lifetime.
In the snow, eight-year-old Yuepo, his voice trembling, took the blame for her: "It was me!" He took that step, and from that moment on, he entered her heart.
When the three masters found them, ten-year-old Yuepo stepped forward. She warmed her frozen hands and turned the soil in the herb garden.
As she left the valley, Moon Spirit said firmly, "I will definitely recognize you."
She asked him, "What if the people in the valley send you to kill me?"
