Guanyins Tränen - Kapitel 9
"How can one live a life worse than death?" Little Lu asked, becoming increasingly interested in the subject. It discovered more and more the benefits and pleasures of being a bad person, and the freedom that came with it. It hated its former owner for raising it to be a dog, even though it was, in its essence, a dog.
"I haven't decided yet!" The doll turned around, recalling the smile that the woman showed the moment she leaped into the air. That smile was clearly directed at her, and it was that smile that made the doll sacrifice her own energy to support her at the last moment.
Why is she laughing? Why? Why? Hasn't she already forgotten her?
"This woman's greatest talent is forgetfulness, forgetting pain. This talent is so selfish, so selfish that she doesn't care about those who have been forgotten!" The doll's eyes turned blood red, so red that they almost spit fire. Xiao Lu understood this look. It had once had this look too, the resentment of being abandoned, transformed into anger.
"Let's go!" The doll turned and walked out of the ward. Xiao Lu glanced at the woman, and the doll urged, "Go! Don't even think about hitting her. No one but me can kill her!"
For no apparent reason! Little Lu followed behind the doll, pondering where to find tonight's food.
"Have you heard of the Wish-Fulfilling Life Pearl?" Xiao Lu asked as they walked.
"I've heard about it before." The doll returned to normal, but her expression was melancholy.
"Have you heard about Di Ting?" Xiao Lu asked again.
"Of course! Isn't the one the Vampire Listener was talking about you?" The doll thought to herself that she was probably the first person to know that the Listener had fallen to the human world. She had originally hoped that it could help her reincarnate!
“I’m not some kind of Di Ting! To be honest, I heard that Di Ting came here in search of the Ruyi Treasure Life Pearl, which means the Ruyi Treasure Life Pearl is nearby!” A strange light flashed in Xiao Lu’s eyes.
"Yes, if I find the Wish-Fulfilling Life Pearl, I can use its power to be reincarnated and no longer be a wandering ghost..." the doll said calmly.
"Is the Ruyi Bao Life Pearl really that powerful?" Xiao Lu asked.
"Of course, the powerful force that aligns with the will of all beings!" The doll sighed. Too many things are beyond our control.
"Since the Ruyi Treasure Life Pearl is so powerful, why would we need to reincarnate if we can find it first?!" Little Lu laughed. The doll suddenly felt that Little Lu was terrifying. If a good person turns bad, he can be worse than any bad person.
"Find the Ruyi Treasure Life Pearl? It's not that easy!" The doll saw a man walking over from afar and gestured for Xiao Lu to move aside and hide for a moment. The doll could sense the evil energy on the man.
"Have you forgotten that I'm a dog?" For some reason, Xiao Lu felt quite uncomfortable when he said this. Just like many Chinese people feel inferior when they say they are Chinese, Xiao Lu also felt a strong sense of inferiority when he said he was a dog. He had never felt this way before. This feeling made him feel annoyed, sad and inexplicably angry. If he found the wish-fulfilling pearl, his first wish would be to be human.
Doesn't it hate humans? Why does it want to become human?
It felt like it was going crazy.
As Xiao Lu pondered this, she hid in a dark corner behind the door, watching Liu Wei stride into the hospital. Liu Wei paused at the door, glancing at it out of the corner of his eye, and gave a disdainful smile. These little things were insignificant; he had more important things to do now.
25.
Liu Wei strode forward with great speed, his only thought being to see the person he wanted to see. Occasionally, nurses who brushed past him would point and whisper behind his back.
"This heartless man! His own father was seriously injured saving him and is staying in this hospital, but he has never even glanced at him. Instead, he goes to a strange woman's hospital room every day..."
"Yes, that woman jumped off a building and committed suicide. She's now in a vegetative state, half-dead..."
"How do you know he doesn't know that woman? Dr. Liu said that woman had a miscarriage a year ago, maybe the child is his..."
"No, no! I was on duty when that woman came in for an abortion. She was accompanied by a man, but it wasn't this man. That man was much more handsome than him..."
"Yes, yes, this man probably doesn't know that woman. He even asked me what her name was!"
"By the way... what was that woman's name?"
"His medical record says his name is Mao Luo!"
Liu Wei had no time to pay attention to those rumors and gossip. He was used to living his own life, or more precisely, the soul of the Yellow River was used to living his own life.
Liu Wei sat by Mao Mao's hospital bed, gazing at her pale face, and murmured, "Silly girl! Silly girl! Why do you always run away from me? Why can't you see my love for you in your eyes? Why?"
Liu Wei hadn't shed a tear in many years; when he did, it would trigger a catastrophe, causing the Yellow River to overflow and countless lives to be lost. But now he could cry freely, and he had to thank Old Liu for that. If his tears hadn't dripped into his own soul through Liu Wei's eyes, he probably wouldn't have been able to get along so well with Liu Wei's body.
If it were said that Old Liu's tears of fatherly love saved him, he would feel that it was too sentimental. He felt no gratitude or guilt towards Old Liu. If he hadn't given birth to such a ill-fated son, how could he, a dignified river spirit, have been trapped here?
Fortunately, this misfortune turned into a blessing in disguise, and they found Alo.
Alo.
He held her pale hand, deciding not to let her escape again. How many times had she escaped this time?
The first time was with that philandering Hou Yi. Every few hundred years thereafter, she would fall in love with someone else and cheat on him. Although he had taken her from the Youluo clan to be his wife, his kindness to her for a thousand years should have melted even the coldest heart.
This time, she became infatuated with a Taoist named Jingcheng. In a fit of rage, the river spirit killed the man, and she stubbornly followed him into reincarnation!
"A-Luo, don't be angry with me, okay?" Liu Wei's tears soaked the snow-white sheets, yellow and murky. Having found A-Luo, the Ruyi Bao Life Pearl was even more important to him.
A'Luo is now a mortal. If he wants to restore Luo Shen to her former glory, Liu Wei can't think of a better tool or method than the Ruyi Treasure Life Pearl. But...
But!!
Where is the Ruyi Bao Life Pearl? Where is it? He thought about how he was now almost a mortal, and couldn't help but beat his chest in frustration! In the end, it was that Di Ting who was too stingy. He only wanted to borrow the pearl to find the whereabouts of Luo Shen, and incidentally, to make her devoted to him from now on, so that she wouldn't cheat on him every other day. That little beast, was it really worth risking his life for?!
Now both sides are hurt, and the bead is lost. That little beast really doesn't know what's good for him!
Liu Wei clenched his fist, forgetting that he was still holding Mao Mao's hand.
Mao Mao's hands were clenched so tightly they turned purple. "It hurts..." Mao Mao murmured.
"It hurts, bear with it, son!" Liu Wei was still immersed in anger, but he immediately realized that the word "ouch" came from Mao Mao's mouth. He jumped up in surprise: "A Luo! You're awake! You're awake!"
Mao Mao slightly opened her eyes and saw a strange man holding her hand. She tried to pull her hand away, but she had no strength. "Mirror... mirror... who is the fairest of them all?"
After saying this, Mao Mao shed a tear and fainted again.
Liu Wei cried out anxiously, "Doctor—Doctor—she's awake—she's really awake—"
A doctor and several nurses rushed over, performed a routine check on Mao Mao, and said to Liu Wei, "It's unbelievable, he's actually awake!"
“But she…but she…” Liu Wei pointed at the unconscious Mao Mao, worried that she might not wake up again.
“She’s just asleep.” The doctor gave Liu Wei a disgusted look and said, “Aren’t you going to check on your father? You broke two of his ribs…”
"Who is my father? That old man?" Liu Wei hadn't quite come to his senses yet; he didn't have the energy to think about anyone else right now.
The doctor glared at him fiercely, then slammed the door and left.
26.
When he was a child, Lao Li once told A Ming that if he lied on a cloudy day, he would become a stutterer. So every time it was cloudy, A Ming was always worried that if he became a stutterer, Lao Li would beat him.
That's just how people are. When your roommate loses something, even if you didn't steal it, you'll still blush, feel guilty, and panic, as if you really did steal it. And this behavior only makes others think you did steal it. So, ever since Ah Ming heard Old Li tell the legend of cloudy days, he'll start stuttering every time it's cloudy, and when he stutters, he gets beaten up.
The more he was beaten, the more he feared cloudy days; the more he feared cloudy days, the more he stuttered; the more he stuttered, the more he was beaten... and so on in a vicious cycle.
Today is a cloudy day. A heavy snow has been brewing for a while, and it seems that even God is afraid that we'll eat too much hot pot in the cold weather, so the snow is making us feel hot and constipated. The more it's pressed down, the more oppressive it feels.
Ah Ming started stuttering again. Based on his years of experience of being beaten for stuttering, Ah Ming found a solution.
He braced himself on the ground with both hands, leaning upside down against the old locust tree.
Ah Ming once said that when he stands upside down, he sees a different world.
Ah Ming's mouth was facing upwards, while the man hanging from the old locust tree had his mouth facing downwards. The man stuck out his long tongue, and water droplets dripped from it. The water droplets fell into Ah Ming's mouth, but Ah Ming didn't swallow them. The water droplets just flowed into Ah Ming's throat on their own, as if they were familiar with the process.
"Thank you, Uncle Fu!" Ah Ming said, standing upside down. His speech was fluent, and he even added a drop of lubricant, which worked perfectly.
"No need to thank me, you're the only one who can keep me company in this place!" said the man who had been hanging in the tree, whom Ah Ming called "Uncle Fu." "But... what will you do in the future!"
"What do you mean, what should we do?" A-Ming continued, still standing upside down, and asked.
“I’m leaving in a few days, leaving this place… If you start stuttering again then, no one will be there to help you…” Uncle Fu said.
"Leave? Congratulations, Uncle Fu, you've found Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva! You can ask him to let you reincarnate!" Ah Ming smiled, genuinely happy for Uncle Fu.
"It's not about finding Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva..." Uncle Fu sighed, "nor is it about reincarnation... but... my master is about to awaken!"
"Your... master?" Ah Ming asked curiously, "Who is he?"
"I've been waiting for him here for hundreds of years!" Uncle Fu's dead fish eyes rolled up with a pale blue light, making Ah Ming feel uneasy.
From afar, Xiao Lu and the doll saw A-Ming standing upside down on the old locust tree, seemingly talking to himself, or perhaps talking to the dead eunuch hanging in the tree.
The doll said, "Don't you hate him? Now is the perfect opportunity."
Xiao Lu tilted his head and said, "Isn't it inappropriate to do this in broad daylight?"
The doll said, "Could it be that you're being soft-hearted? Still thinking about your old owner?"
Xiao Lu shouted urgently, "No way!" He then bared his teeth and charged at A Ming. At that moment, A Ming was getting chills from looking at Uncle Fu and didn't want to suffer any longer, so he straightened up and landed, his foot landing right on Xiao Lu's head. Xiao Lu howled twice, his eyes blazing with fire.
"Wild dog!" A-Ming was startled and didn't recognize Xiao Lu now. Xiao Lu's body was no longer recognizable as it used to be, and his eyes were no longer as clear and innocent as before.
The doll giggled beside him, which only fueled Xiao Lu's anger and embarrassment. He let out a low growl and charged at A Ming.
Just then, the ground suddenly shook violently, and Uncle Fu, standing in the tree, cried out with tears in his eyes, "Master!"
A thin crack appeared in the ground, and Ah Ming, Xiao Lu, the doll's vengeful spirit, and Uncle Fu were all sucked into the crack like leaves caught in a gust of wind. (Ghosts who want to burrow into places can refer to this method).
32.
Mao Mao had a dream.
In her dream, she was holding a bloodied, unborn baby as she floated up from the Luo River. In reality, Mao Mao is a terrible swimmer; she even drowns when taking a bath. But in her dream, Mao Mao was as agile as a fish in the river.
A man stood on the shore, and he looked a lot like the mirror. Mao Mao said, "Here, your child."
When Mao Mao reached out her hand, the blood-stained child in her hand turned into a doll she had lost before. The man didn't even glance at it and said, "Who knows whose child this is?"
The Luo River churned angrily. In her dream, Mao Mao suddenly remembered that she was most afraid of water and couldn't swim. So she sank down and struggled in the water... unable to breathe... She wanted to scream for help, but as soon as she opened her mouth, she woke up.
A cliché plot from Korean and Hong Kong/Taiwanese dramas has emerged: the female lead suffers amnesia due to a car accident or jumping off a building.
However, it wasn't that Momo had lost her memory; rather, the memory of the abortion that the hypnotist had hidden in a corner of her memory had returned without warning and in a chaotic manner.
The outside was noisy. Mao Mao gently wiped the sweat from her forehead, and tears welled up in her eyes.
She got up. The door to the ward was wide open. Mirror sat in the doorway. A piece of the right pocket of her jacket was burned, and thick blood was flowing from her nose and the corner of her mouth.
Mirror?!
It really is a mirror!!!
Mao Mao staggered out and threw herself into the Mirror's arms.
"Mirror, mirror! It really is you!" Mao Mao cried out in anguish.
Mirror coldly pushed Mao Mao away, stood up, wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, and didn't even glance at Mao Mao. He just stared straight at Lao Liu—the Ruyi Bao Life Pearl was on his body!
Liu Wei angrily pulled Mao Mao away from the mirror, "Is he really that good? Is he really that good? Is he better than me? Why won't you even look at me?!"
Mao Mao turned her head, her eyes filled with unfamiliarity: "Are we... are we that close? Just because you saved me once, does that mean I have to repay you with my body?"
