Kapitel 15

The groom was a young man who wore glasses; he was quite thin, neither particularly handsome nor unattractive.

I was also the officiant at the wedding.

When I got home in the evening, it was very late again. After I finished washing up, I went to look at the parrot.

It had lost a lot more fur, which lay scattered haphazardly at the bottom of the cage. The red, blue, and green fur fell off like autumn leaves. It looked more and more terrifying.

I observed its eyes; they seemed somewhat weary, yet they remained fixed on me.

I think it's dying. But I've done my best.

I went into my bedroom and went to sleep; I had a lot to do tomorrow. I silently prayed that I wouldn't have any more nightmares tonight.

I felt as if I were driving on a dark road without streetlights, the buildings on both sides hidden in darkness. The road ahead was illuminated by my headlights, appearing as a stark white.

I didn't know if I was going to work or to Ya Jie's wedding. My heart was filled with fear, and I gripped the steering wheel so tightly that I was sweating.

I don't know how far we drove, but a Steyr truck came towards us. It was yellow, tall and imposing, and the windows were dark, so I couldn't see the driver's face.

I suddenly felt that the car window was like a dark, gaping eye, staring intently at me.

I slowed down beforehand.

Sure enough, as the truck approached, it suddenly lurched towards the front of my car like a crazed monster...

In my dream, I suddenly closed my eyes, and then my eyes in reality opened.

The deafening engine roar abruptly ceased, plunging the surroundings into darkness and deathly silence. Then I heard a hoarse voice mutter, "I'll run you over!"

I was startled because the sound was right next to my ear.

I slowly reached out and immediately touched something furry.

I frantically turned on the light and saw the parrot standing beside my ear, its blood-red eyes staring at me menacingly. I could even smell a fishy, foul odor emanating from it.

It's absolutely true, it's the one that's speaking!

Although it speaks in a way that sounds very human, you can still tell that it's an imitation, just like the electronic voice that indicates directions on the car PC installed in my car.

I stared at it, feeling my stomach growl, while my brain raced—there were so many things I needed to figure out.

First of all, its feet were chained, so how did it fly onto my bed?

Since it spoke, then the conversation between the man and the woman must have been created by it.

But how could a bird utter such complete and emotionally charged sentences?

Also, how can it mimic another completely different sound?

This is all too bizarre.

I reached out and touched it, and it didn't run away, it didn't even try to dodge.

I picked it up, went to the living room, and looked at the chain in the cage. Sure enough, it had opened the spring lock.

I gently placed it inside, locked it again with the spring lock, and then, avoiding its view, quickly returned to the bedroom.

Lying in bed, my heart was pounding in my chest. I could almost hear that sinister voice again: "I'll run you over!"

I think it must have said those words several times by my pillow. Even though I was asleep, my ears received those words, which were then sent to my brain and incorporated into my dreams.

I've had similar experiences many times throughout my life.

But why did it say it would kill me? For someone like me who gets around by car every day, that's such an ominous statement.

Two bloody words popped into my head: curse.

Who is cursing me?

Despite my fear, I still only believe that this parrot is amazing at mimicking speech, but I don't believe that there is anything supernatural about it.

The airport security checkpoint reappeared before my eyes, and so did the magician, who turned and looked back at me…

But I avoided his gaze and stared at someone else.

The person disappeared in a flash at the escalator entrance.

The terrifying parrot (7)

His name is Wang Xin.

I suddenly realized that he had some kind of mysterious relationship with this parrot.

Yes, I have a grudge against him. Although seven years have passed, there has never been a chance to resolve it. I remember it all, and he certainly remembers it even more.

If you say a girl can only "parrot," you're comparing her to a well-behaved parrot, which is even a compliment.

However, to call a grown man a parrot is an insult. A man's worth in life comes from his spirit and his thoughts.

Some say there are only two kinds of men: masters and servants.

If you were to scold a servile man, it might not be a big deal. However, if the person being scolded is actually a master-servant type of man who is forced into servility, then it becomes problematic because you've hit his Achilles' heel.

I hurt him.

Without a doubt, he's now going to mess with me.

He kept a parrot, and through training, he implanted these terrifying programs into its brain, and then, through others, went to great lengths to get it into my hands...

I don't know how long it took him to train the parrot, maybe a year, maybe three, maybe seven...

The more I think about it, the more I feel that this parrot's eyes are Wang Xin's eyes!

Couples who live together for a long time tend to look more and more alike. The same is true for animals and humans.

The next day, Mr. Nian happened to fly in from Hong Kong, and I went with him to a teahouse located in a temple in Yangtaishan, Haidian District, where we talked about work while drinking tea.

As we were talking, I suddenly asked him, "Mr. Nian, was that magician your friend last time?"

"Which magician?" he asked.

"It's the one I dropped off at the airport."

“Oh.” He then remembered, “I don’t know him. That day, an old classmate of mine suddenly called and asked if I could take a friend to the airport. The person arrived shortly after.”

I asked, sensing something was wrong, "What's your friend's name?"

"Her name is Wang Xin. What happened?"

"It's nothing, I was just asking."

That day, as I drove home, my mind was in turmoil.

I finally understood that this terrifying parrot was actually a weapon.

I've decided to take it to the bird market tomorrow. If someone buys it, I'll sell it; if not, I'll give it away.

Thinking back to the words I said to Wang Xin years ago, I suddenly felt a little regretful.

It's not that I'm scared; I just feel that I shouldn't insult his character.

The fact that he still holds a grudge shows that he is not a man who is content to be a parrot.

It was already very late.

The annual report states that the company is staying in the mountains, reviewing accounts and business plans. I returned alone.

Perhaps because I drank too much tea, I felt bloated. I thought I'd take care of it when I got home, so I drove very fast.

I was originally going downhill, but suddenly an uphill slope appeared in front of me. I stepped on the gas, and the car accelerated like a wild horse, speeding up the hill.

I suddenly felt panicked because the car was going too fast, it shouldn't be going this fast. I quickly lifted the accelerator, but strangely, the speed didn't decrease, it just kept increasing.

My hands and feet suddenly became somewhat unresponsive.

The road was pitch black on both sides, and the car headlights shone a pale white light on the road... When I realized that this scene was familiar, my scalp tingled.

At that moment, the mountain road suddenly turned a corner, and I saw a black Santana driving towards me.

I was startled and quickly turned the steering wheel, not even bothering to change the lights.

The black Santana grazed past my car, and I almost crashed into a thick poplar tree by the roadside.

I stomped the car to a stop.

The wheels stopped on the yellow earth beside the road, and the lights went out. I was plunged into boundless darkness, my mind blank.

It took me a while for my brain to slowly start working again.

I remember now, this place is located halfway up Yangtai Mountain, running east to west, and is a "strange slope" that has been reported by the media.

The "gravity hill" didn't terrify me much. Experts have investigated and measured this "gravity hill" and believe it's mainly due to visual illusions caused by reference points.

What terrifies me is that chilling statement from last night: "I'll run you over!"

cry

I returned home, completely exhausted.

I turned on the light and saw that Wang Xin was still standing on the perch. He had very few feathers left, and his red eyes were still staring at me.

I wanted to smile at this person I had worked with for over two years, but I couldn't bring myself to smile.

I went straight into the bedroom, drew the curtains tightly, and then took off my clothes and lay down.

I turned off the lights and was plunged into darkness again. Darkness is eternal.

I am thirty-five years old. In this long period of time, many things have grown and died in my heart, but my body has always been alive. As a result, a lot of corpses have accumulated. I should have cleaned them up, but I haven't had enough time.

Tonight, I will spend another long night with a man.

For no apparent reason, I recalled Ya Jie's bright red Tang-style jacket and her rosy smile...

In the middle of the night, I heard a crying sound.

It was a man crying, his voice hoarse. The sound seemed to come from near and then fade away, filled with despair and sorrow.

I was so tired. I listened to the crying in a half-dreaming, half-awake state, filled with fear, but I wasn't fully awake.

In a daze, a bright red Ya Jie stood before me. She looked at me sadly, tears streaming down her face, and softly said, "You're too thin..."

I got up early in the morning.

Thinking of the hoarse cry of the man last night, and of Ya Jie's red Tang-style jacket, I can't tell which is reality and which is a dream.
