Глава 26

Long San said, "What are you thinking? You were divorced, yet you're able to stand tall and live with your head held high. What kind of logic is that?"

"Oh dear, you're so naive. You'll be relieved if you divorce me first. If I turn back to my old self later, you can kick me out without any qualms. Now that I've received the divorce papers and shown my sincerity, I can naturally stay here. Once I help you find the treasure and catch the murderer, I won't be afraid anymore, and I'll leave on my own."

Long San was dumbfounded: "If you're any dumber, do you even know what a letter of divorce is? Do you think it's just some random letter to remind someone or to testify?"

Feng Ning narrowed her eyes: "Long San, you peeked at my letter."

"There's no sign saying 'Don't look' on it. I thought it was left for me?" Long San lied calmly and composedly.

Feng Ning was speechless and unable to refute, so she lost her temper: "I don't care, just give me the divorce papers."

"No."

"Then I'll write it, and I'll divorce you."

"Why don't you give it a try?" Long San raised an eyebrow. "Let's see who recognizes it."

Feng Ning jumped up angrily, saying, "Your Long family is bullying us!"

Long San also stood up: "How is it?"

"I don't care, I just want a divorce."

Long San ignored her and turned to leave the kitchen. Feng Ning chased after him, saying, "Long San, Long San, you're the best to me. Just let me live here in peace. I won't linger, really. I'll leave after this is all over. Don't kick me out now. I'd rather have a divorce."

Long San turned around abruptly, nose to nose with hers: "A letter of divorce or three meals a day, which would you choose?"

Feng Ning opened her mouth wide and stared blankly for a long time: "How can you choose like this? How can you not let people have enough to eat?"

Long San smiled slightly and asked, "Which do you choose: a letter of divorce or no one to sleep with?"

Feng Ning was speechless, staring at him with a pout, and after a long while, she suddenly lunged forward and punched Long San in the face: "Hey, take this! You bad guy, you dare to bully me? I'll beat you up!"

Author's Note: Haha, I just imagined the final scene between Long San and Feng Ning in my head, hahaha~~

19. The imposing Third Madam Long...

Feng Ning's punches were incredibly fast, but her loud shouts betrayed her intentions. Long San was no pushover, and his reaction was swift; he leaned back slightly and gracefully dodged the attack. Feng Ning missed her first strike, but didn't stop there. She closed in and struck again with a palm strike. Long San raised his arm to block, catching her forearm. Feng Ning spun her hand back, sliding it up his arm, changing her palm into a fist, and punched him in the chest.

"Heh, not bad." Long San generously praised, then retreated with lightning speed, twisting his foot and spinning to Feng Ning's side. Feng Ning didn't even look at him, but spun around and kicked him in the lower body.

The two exchanged blows quickly, about ten moves in total. Long San was secretly astonished; Feng Ning not only knew martial arts, but she was actually a master. The first time he saw her after she lost her memory, she had fought with two thugs, but he hadn't seen her fight much then, and he thought she only knew basic martial arts for self-defense, nothing special. He hadn't expected that in this serious fight, her skills were not just good, but truly excellent. She jokingly said she could be an assassin, and it was actually the absolute truth.

Feng Ning became happier and happier as she fought. She never knew that stretching her muscles and bones could be so refreshing. Long San's martial arts skills were superb, which allowed her to unleash her full power. After a round of fighting, Feng Ning truly felt extremely happy.

Before she could finish her fight, a flurry of footsteps came from afar. Feng Ning panicked and pulled Long San onto the roof. Soon, she saw several guards running over, who must have heard the commotion and come to check.

Long San chuckled inwardly at Feng Ning's guilty look. She was often a fierce, snarling tigress one moment and a kitten licking her paws the next.

Downstairs, several guards quickly spread out and patrolled the area. Apart from signs that the kitchen had been disturbed, they didn't find anything suspicious. The servant who had run to the kitchen earlier came over and said a few words to the guards, presumably reporting that the Third Master had used the kitchen earlier. The guards, probably worried that someone might be breaking in, still patrolled the area three times and searched it carefully.

Feng Ning sat on the rooftop, holding Long San's arm, waiting. After waiting for a while, she yawned twice and finally couldn't help but push Long San, saying, "Long San, I'm sleepy."

"Hmm." Long San pretended not to understand.

Feng Ning yawned again and said, "Go and send them away. I want to go back to sleep."

“Go by yourself. If you hadn’t caused this trouble, we would all be sound asleep by now. Clean up the mess you created.”

"But I am the third wife. It would be very embarrassing to be found hiding on the roof in the middle of the night."

"I'm still the third master of the household. It would be even more embarrassing to be discovered hiding on the roof in the middle of the night."

"Then why did you hide? How annoying." Feng Ning was sleepy, but her temper flared up again.

"You're the one who pulled me up here."

"Then why did I pull you up here?" Feng Ning buried her head in his chest. "I don't care, I'm going to sleep." She snuggled into his arms, pulled his arm around her head, and then, truly ignoring everything, closed her eyes and went to sleep.

Long San stood frozen in place. Feng Ning always did things he never expected. The guards below were still dutifully expanding their patrol area for another round, while he, the master of the house, was foolishly embracing a strange woman on the roof who should have been divorced but was stubbornly fast asleep.

He looked down at her helplessly. She was really too sleepy and fell asleep quickly. Her breathing was steady and long. It seemed that she had eaten and exercised to prepare herself for sleep. Poor him, the so-called husband who cooked and fought with her, was really at a disadvantage no matter how he thought about it.

After everyone had finally dispersed, Long San carried Feng Ning back to the house and put her on the bed. She woke up groggily, mumbled a few words, and turned over. Long San covered her with a blanket, and she mumbled a couple more words. Finally, Long San couldn't help but ask, "What did you say? I can't hear you."

Feng Ning replied with her eyes closed, "The divorce papers have to be stamped with a pig's hoof print to be valid."

These words almost made Long San's face contort with anger. Unbeknownst to her, Feng Ning continued, "You bully me, and my parents don't protect me either..." Long San didn't hear the rest, but he felt his heart soften. He patted Feng Ning's head and whispered, "Go to sleep, don't think nonsense."

Feng Ning rubbed against his palm and fell asleep again. Long San tidied himself up, blew out the lamp, and got into bed. After a while, he felt Feng Ning snuggling closer to him, her hands and feet moving, and her breathing becoming erratic. Long San reached out and took her hand: "Don't panic, there's no water, no river."

Feng Ning subconsciously gripped his hand tightly, and after a long while, her breathing calmed down. As if in a dream, she whispered, "Long San, don't leave me."

Long San stared at the ceiling above his bed, unable to fall asleep for a long time.

In the days that followed, Long San became busy and had no chance to resolve the matter of divorcing his wife. In fact, he didn't know how to resolve it. He knew that there was no possibility of developing a relationship with her, but he really couldn't bear to abandon her at this time.

After that night, Feng Ning seemed to understand the Long family's thoughts. She became much more obedient to the other members of the Long family, no longer making trouble, being naughty, or showing off. She even stopped stealing Long Er's afternoon snacks.

But she would ask Long San to buy her snacks, and she would ask him for all sorts of novel and fun things. If she couldn't see Long San during the day, she would hide in her little courtyard, and only at night would she talk to him endlessly about everything she had accumulated throughout the day.

Long Er remained outwardly calm, but under the guise of being busy, he dragged Long San around everywhere, reducing his opportunities to spend time with Feng Ning. He even subtly encouraged some of the socialites and ladies who had previously shown favor to Long San. Long San, originally a sociable and generous chivalrous man, had many friends of both men and women. But with Long Er's meddling, rumors began to circulate in the martial arts world that the playboy Third Young Master was settling down and getting married.
