Chapter 37 Gu Zheng's Questioning

The others weren't fools. Hearing Xia Ran's evasive answer, they understood that she didn't want to talk about it, not to mention that her child didn't even have Xia Ran's surname anymore, so they didn't press her further.

"Xia Ran, why did you come here today...?"

This time, the person asking the question was a boy, about the same age as Xia Ran.

Their eyes kept darting back and forth between Xia Ran and Assistant Wang.

Aside from their CEO, this was the first time they had ever seen Assistant Wang personally come down to greet someone.

These people's problems are also issues that Xia Ran has been considering.

If he were to suddenly reveal now that he came to see Gu Zheng, who knows what these people would think of him?

But if he doesn't say anything, he and Gu Zheng will find out sooner or later when they come down.

Otherwise, he should just tell her; after all, he and Gu Zheng were married openly and legitimately.

But just as Xia Ran was about to speak, Assistant Wang spoke up.

"He's here to see the president. What else do you want to ask? Is the company really that idle?"

Assistant Wang knew that Xia Ran knew these people, which is why he didn't say anything earlier.

But seeing these people asking endless questions, their CEO is probably getting impatient upstairs, and he might be the one to suffer in the end.

The group of people were stunned when they heard what Assistant Wang said.

Xia Ran then spoke up, saying...

"I have other things to do. Let's talk again when we have time. Goodbye."

Xia Ran reluctantly said goodbye to the group, feeling somewhat at a loss as they looked at him.

Xia Ran had already left, and Assistant Wang naturally followed her into the elevator, leaving the group of people standing there looking completely bewildered. After their initial confusion came a discussion filled with disbelief.

How come they didn't know Xia Ran and the CEO were so close? Could it be that Xia Ran is also a young master from some wealthy family? Was he just here to experience life?

Otherwise, how could I be so familiar with their CEO now?

Xia Ran had no idea what these people were thinking; he was currently in the elevator, letting out a sigh of relief.

There was no one else in the elevator, so Assistant Wang directly asked the question that had been on his mind.

"Xia Ran, I can see that the president cares a lot about you. Your relationship is really good. This is the first time I've seen the president treat someone like this."

Assistant Wang's words had a somewhat probing tone.

Although he knew the two were married, he didn't really know exactly how far they had progressed.

However, judging from their current appearance, their relationship is probably quite good.

Assistant Wang's eyes were gleaming with gossip, but unfortunately Xia Ran didn't see it.

He listened to Assistant Wang's words, his face showing not only embarrassment but also disbelief.

"You...you're telling the truth? Ah Zheng, he..."

Xia didn't know how to say what came next, but his sparkling eyes betrayed him.

Assistant Wang: "Yes, otherwise why would I be here, right?"

Upon hearing this, Xia Ran's eyes lit up even more.

Before he could say anything, the elevator arrived.

This floor of Gu Zheng's office is only occupied by Gu Zheng, his assistant Wang, and two secretaries; other employees are not allowed on this floor.

It was lunchtime, and neither of the two secretaries were there, so Assistant Wang took Xia Ran directly to the door of Gu Zheng's office.

Of course, he didn't go in directly, but knocked on the door.

Xia Ran couldn't help but feel nervous.

Although he had just met Gu Zheng that morning, he really missed him.

Even though they've been married for so long, he still can't help feeling nervous and anxious whenever he thinks about being with Gu Zheng.

"Enter."

A familiar voice rang out in the office, and Xia Ran's heart suddenly raced.

Assistant Wang simply pushed open the door and went inside.

Upon seeing them enter, Gu Zheng subconsciously raised his head. When he saw that Gu Chen was still being held in Xia Ran's arms, his brows furrowed slightly.

However, he always had a blank expression on his face, so no one else could tell that he had furrowed his brow.

"President, I'll head out now?" Assistant Wang put the things on the table and looked at Gu Zheng.

After seeing Gu Zheng nod slightly, he glanced at Xia Ran as a greeting and then left.

When Gu Zheng saw this, his eyes narrowed slightly, seemingly with displeasure.

"Ah Zheng," Xia Ran called out to Gu Zheng with bright eyes.

Gu Chen, seeing Gu Zheng's office for the first time, was also full of curiosity.

Now the two of them are looking at Gu Zheng with bright eyes, which inexplicably makes Gu Zheng feel like he is being looked at by two adorable puppies.

Gu Zheng paused, lowered his head to conceal the emotions in his eyes, and gave a soft "hmm".

Xia Ran sensed that Gu Zheng's mood was a bit off, but he just assumed it was because of work and didn't think much of it.

Xia Ran: "Ah Zheng, why don't we take our time later and eat first?"

Gu Chen, nestled in Xia Ran's arms, nodded repeatedly upon hearing this, and said with a hint of grievance,

"Ugh! Hungry...hungry!"

Gu Zheng, who originally wanted to finish the remaining work, couldn't sit still after hearing what the two said, and could only nod helplessly.

"Okay, eat up."

He walked out from his desk, went to Xia Ran, and hugged Gu Chen directly, the movement very natural.

Gu Chen was caught off guard and only realized what was happening when he was in Gu Zheng's arms.

"I don't want you! I want my little...daddy!"

Gu Chen wriggled in Gu Zheng's arms, trying to get down.

"Don't move around." Gu Zheng patted Gu Chen's little bottom, then picked him up and put him on the sofa.

As soon as he was free, Gu Chen wanted Xia Ran to hug him, but before Xia Ran's hand could touch Gu Chen, Gu Zheng grabbed it.

“He’s almost five years old. We can’t spoil him anymore. He needs to learn to be independent.”

Gu Zheng spoke in a cold and indifferent voice.

Xia Ran's attention was entirely focused on Gu Zheng's hand holding his, and he didn't even have time to answer Gu Zheng's words, just staring blankly at the two of their hands.

Gu Zheng's hands were large, and there was plenty of room for him to hold his wrist.

Even though the air conditioning was on in the office, Xia Ran felt hot all over, and her hands were even a little sweaty.

Ah Zheng shook his hand again. How many times had they shaken hands before?

"Xia Ran?" Gu Zheng suddenly called out Xia Ran's name, his tone somewhat displeased.

What is this person thinking? How can they be so distracted in front of him?

Hearing the voice, Xia Ran instantly snapped out of her daze and stammered in response.

"Huh? Wh...what?"

“I said, we can’t spoil Gu Chen anymore. He’s not young anymore. Don’t carry him all the time. Let him walk on his own at home. I’m asking you to take care of him, not to raise him into a useless person.”

Gu Zheng spoke coldly, but Xia Ran's face turned slightly pale. Did A-Zheng mean to blame him?

Chapter 38 looks even more like that person...

But... but Xiao Chen's situation is different; he wants Xiao Chen to feel his love.

Xia Ran felt a little depressed, but in the end she still smiled and nodded.

"I understand, Zheng. Don't worry, I'll let Xiao Chen be more independent from now on. But Zheng, you need to understand that Xiao Chen's situation is different from other children, so..."

Xia Ran couldn't help but say something.

Gu Zheng paused, turned around and glanced at Gu Chen sitting next to him, a hint of helplessness instantly appearing in his eyes.

Indeed, Gu Chen's situation...

Xia Ran had been watching Gu Zheng closely, so he noticed Gu Zheng's predicament. Almost without thinking, he took Gu Zheng's hand and said,

"Ah Zheng, you don't need to worry too much. Xiao Chen is a very good boy. He will definitely be very obedient in the future. I won't let the things you're worried about happen. You can trust me, okay?"

Because Xia Ran is shorter than Gu Zheng, he always looks up slightly at Gu Zheng when he speaks.

Gu Zheng looked down at him and was taken aback by the seriousness in Xia Ran's eyes. Something seemed different in his heart.

Moreover, Xia Ran like this made him feel that she was more like that person.

Seeing that Gu Zheng didn't answer him, Xia Ran assumed that Gu Zheng didn't believe him, so he moved closer to Gu Zheng, stood on tiptoe, and whispered in Gu Zheng's ear,

"Zheng, can you trust me? Xiao Chen's situation is different. We need to help him become more cheerful first, and then slowly teach him how to live."

"And believe me, Xiao Chen won't go astray. Children at this age need their parents' love and care. If you're too strict with him, he'll become even less willing to communicate with us."

Xia Ran kept her voice very low, afraid that Gu Chen would hear them talking.

His hot breath sprayed into Gu Zheng's ear, making Gu Zheng's whole body stiffen.

"Daddy?"

Suddenly, Gu Chen's questioning voice rang out, bringing Gu Zheng back to his senses.

Gu Zheng glanced down at the hand that Xia Ran was holding, then sat down on the sofa and opened the lunchbox with a blank expression, taking out the food inside.

Looking at Gu Zheng's expression, Xia Ran couldn't help but feel a little uneasy.

Ah Zheng looks like this, could it be that he's angry?
