Chapter 12

Zhou Sisi glanced at Qin Chu again but didn't say anything. She had witnessed Cheng Cheng fighting, but for some reason, she felt that Cheng Cheng was much easier to get along with now than before.

As the group was whispering among themselves, they suddenly saw the person in the center of their field of vision stand up.

They saw Qin Chu stand up, glance over their direction, and then walk over.

The class monitor jumped in alarm: "Holy crap, he's coming!"

"Judging by their appearance, they're not here to fight, are they?" The sports committee member was surprised, but also a little bit admiring. He then reassured her, "Don't panic, maybe they're here to get water..."

"Are you going to fill your cup with water instead of a cup, or are you going to use your mouth?"

As the two were whispering to each other, they saw that the person had already walked up to them.

During the short break, no one went out; dozens of pairs of eyes in the entire class followed Qin Chu.

They saw Qin Chu standing in front of several class committee members, and he actually asked, "Who is the academic representative?"

Upon hearing this, many people instinctively cursed in their hearts.

Watching from afar, Zhao Yuan couldn't help but smirk. He remembered the time back in the dorm when Qin Chu pulled him aside and asked where Zhao Yuan was.

What's most impressive about his deskmate isn't that he can't remember people, but that he can't remember people and yet he's perfectly justified and not embarrassed at all.

Anyway, that tone was incredibly arrogant, instantly reminding the sports committee member watching from the sidelines of the scene during high school military training when the drill instructor ordered the sports committee members to step forward. Even though it wasn't him being called, he subconsciously wanted to stand at attention and reply, "Here!"

The student representative who was called out really wanted to complain: "It's been half a semester and you still don't know who the student representative is?"

But his body had its own will; as if being called on by a teacher, he shakily raised his hand: "I...I am..."

Qin Chu glanced down at the class representative, then, without a second thought, interrogated him like a criminal, asking directly, "I heard you're having a birthday party. When? Where?"

The onlookers in the room were completely stunned, and even the pen that Zhao Yuan was twirling flew out of his hand.

I've seen people get angry and cause trouble for not being invited, but I've never seen anyone so brazenly ask for an invitation!

But would the class representative dare to say no? No, he wouldn't.

He decisively picked up the small note that had been prepared next to him and presented it with both hands.

Qin Chu grabbed the note and left, but after walking for a while, he remembered it, turned around, and said "thank you."

Noah was so shocked by Qin Chu's outrageous move that he stammered, "Sir, the data shows that the correct way for humans to socialize isn't like this..."

Qin Chu clicked his tongue, annoyed that he was being nosy: "Why bother with so much? Just get it."

In his mind, this matter was not associated with words like socializing or team building at all. If he really had to define it, it would probably just be a task of protecting Zhou Sisi.

And so, under the watchful eyes of everyone, Qin Chu calmly accepted the invitation and then calmly returned to his seat.

Once he got back, Qin Chu belatedly realized that something was wrong.

He turned to look at Zhao Yuan, whose desk was empty, and asked, "They didn't invite you?"

Zhao Yuan hadn't expected him to ask that question. He thought it was a good thing he hadn't been invited, as he wasn't interested in hanging out with these good-natured guys eating and drinking.

But then Zhao Yuan's eyes lit up when he saw the note in Qin Chu's hand, and a pang of regret struck him. With his deskmate around, this class team-building activity was probably going to be a eresting.

Zhao Yuan did not speak immediately.

Qin Chu turned her head and saw him take out the textbook for the next class. After gently opening it, he lowered his head and said in a muffled voice, "They don't usually ask me to do these kinds of things."

The person's voice was quite low, which suddenly reminded Qin Chu of the "bookworm" his roommate had called him that night.

Now that he has received an invitation, Zhao Yuan is the only one in the entire class who hasn't been invited.

When the matter fell on his own, General Qin felt nothing. If these kids didn't want to invite him, he could just go and ask about the location and time himself.

But when the same thing happened to Zhao Yuan, Qin Chu couldn't help but think of the word "ostracism".

So Qin Chu stood up again.

When Qin Chu came over again, the class monitor felt numb.

This time, Qin Chu didn't speak coldly like last time. Instead, he asked, "Aren't you going to invite Zhao Yuan?"

But no matter what attitude this person takes when speaking, his tone is always chilling.

"Please, please, of course we'll invite you!" The class representative stopped arguing and shoved the last note on the table into Qin Chu's hand, adding, "Welcome."

But the tone of his voice sounded like he was sending away a plague god.

Qin Chu left satisfied with the note.

The sports committee member couldn't help but ask, "Weren't you afraid of losing face and didn't want to invite Zhao Yuan?"

The class representative sighed with emotion, "I've come to understand a new truth now."

Sports Commission: "What's the logic behind that?"

Class representative: "Nothing is more important than life."

Sports Committee: "..."

When Qin Chu returned, he didn't boast about his achievements, nor did he say a word. He simply tossed the note onto Zhao Yuan's desk. Then he lowered his eyes and started reading, still maintaining his cold and aloof demeanor.

This time, it was Zhao Yuan who was a little confused when he saw the note.

He's always immersed in his role in the play, and what he said just now wasn't anything special; it was just a casual remark. But he didn't expect that Qin Chu would make another trip to get the "invitation" for him just because of that one sentence.

It's supposed to be an invitation, but it's just a slip of paper with the time, place, and schedule written on it. And the paper looks like it was torn from a notebook—the quality is questionable. If the teacher finds out, just roll it up and it's gone.

Zhao Yuan stared at the paper for a long time, then leaned on the table, snuggled closer to Qin Chu, and started making sarcastic remarks:

"Oh dear, do you really want me to go?"

"This is a real problem, what if I'm not free that day?"

"Do you really, really want me to go?"

"..." Qin Chu reached out to grab the note and stuff it into the guy's mouth.

Zhao Yuan raised his hand to dodge, then frowned and sighed, "Fine, fine, since my deskmate gave it to me, I have to go even if I don't do my homework."

Qin Chu glanced at him sideways: "It's understandable that they didn't invite you." With that mouth of his, whoever invites you is doomed.

Zhao Yuan smiled and put the note into his pencil case: "Why don't you just treat me?"

Seeing that the time was exactly Friday, it was clear that Zhao Yuan hadn't forgotten to secretly send a message to Brother Yang, declining his request to help him out on Friday.

Of course, Zhao Yuan felt his reason was perfectly valid, and replied to Yang Ge, "My deskmate invited me to his birthday party."

If the student council president, who is actually in charge, saw this, he would probably spit out a mouthful of blood.

Yang and the others, who had been stood up, stared at the message. Although they had "not seen the person," they couldn't help but feel a deep respect for the mysterious classmate Zhao Yuan had mentioned.

An off-campus gathering was like a timely rain in the otherwise monotonous lives of high school seniors preparing for the college entrance exams. The entire class was so enthusiastic in this atmosphere that they wished they could speed up time and travel straight to Friday.

However, when the day actually arrived, they discovered that reality was far from what they expected.

Aside from those who genuinely couldn't attend, about a dozen students showed up.

The class representative booked two tables at a barbecue stall on the east side of the street and even asked the owner to put them together.

The idea of sharing tables was originally just for fun, but now the class representative realizes that he made a mistake.

A small grill and stacks of meat and vegetables were laid out, emitting an enticing aroma. Considering the presence of girls, they ordered several bottles of juice, and of course, boldly added a case of beer.

Despite the incredibly tempting scene, no one at the table dared to move, and not even a single person was breathing loudly.

These dozen or so teenagers, with their eyes downcast and seemingly oblivious to their surroundings, would have looked like they were holding a moment of silence for a few grilled fish on the table if they weren't dressed in such youthful attire.

The culprit behind this atmosphere was sitting calmly on a plastic chair at the barbecue stall, his face as cold as ice.

The sports committee member had something to do after school, so he arrived late.

His stomach had been growling loudly, and before he arrived, he planned to grab some skewers as soon as he sat down, otherwise these foodies definitely wouldn't leave any for him. But once he got there, he couldn't help but burp.

I was terrified.

"What's going on here?" The sports committee member muttered under his breath as he sat down next to the academic committee member. "With this atmosphere, anyone who didn't know better would think you'd invited the homeroom teacher over."

The class monitor covered his face, looking heartbroken: "We should have just invited the homeroom teacher over!"

As the class monitor, Zhou Sisi felt extremely uncomfortable watching this scene.

Zhou Sisi was very happy when she learned that Cheng Cheng was coming. She always felt that the fact that people in the class were ostracizing Cheng Cheng was largely due to her.

Upon closer reflection, Cheng Cheng hadn't done anything excessive. Although the thug who stopped her during the exam two years ago was somewhat related to Cheng Cheng, he had also saved her last time and almost made her late for the exam.

Zhou Sisi felt a little guilty and wanted to take this opportunity to help Cheng Cheng integrate into the group.

But she didn't expect Cheng Cheng's cold face to be so devastating, making her feel a little uncomfortable.

Just then, the sports committee member arrived, and Zhou Sisi immediately seized the opportunity to smooth things over: "Everyone's here, what are we waiting for? Don't just stand there!"

As she spoke, she raised the glass in front of her and gestured to the people around her:

"Come on, let's all wish Cheng Cheng a happy birthday!"

These words plunged the already extremely awkward atmosphere into an even more deathly silence.

Zhou Sisi immediately broke down.

Damn it, what if you slip up at the crucial moment!

As the true protagonist of the frequently forgotten birthday party, the class monitor stretched out his hand and wiped his face again, looking weary.

Chapter 13, First Story (11)

The scene was extremely awkward.

Zhou Sisi felt like she was about to cry.

What the hell is going on? It's exactly what I feared.

It's all her fault for thinking about Cheng Cheng so much that she ended up talking about him.

Everyone at the table shivered with cold, but Qin Chu, unusually, had zero sensitivity to awkward situations. Not only did he fail to notice that Zhou Sisi had nervously mispronounced a name, but upon hearing this, he even seriously considered Cheng Cheng's personal information.

Then he looked at Zhou Sisi and explained in a serious tone, "Today is not my birthday."

This serious attitude is kind of cute.

In this extremely awkward situation, someone couldn't help but let out a laugh.
