Chapitre 88

I glanced at the date in the bottom right corner of the computer screen: [*/11/8]

Including the hour left today, there are thirteen days until the 21st, which is almost two weeks.

Fang Bai licked his lips. Time flies so fast; Ji Yuning is about to turn 18.

The original owner was turned into cannon fodder six months later.

Fang Bai couldn't figure out Ji Yuning's attitude. He didn't know if she was just acting like the character in the book or if she had truly accepted him.

After thinking about it all night, the second hypothesis is impossible.

Fang Bai rested his head on his hand, his brows slightly furrowed.

My phone, which was next to my computer, vibrated, and a WeChat chat window popped up without any content displayed.

Just as Fang Bai picked up his phone to check, there was a knock on the study door.

Fang Bai looked up and saw Ji Yuning appear at the door.

It was obvious at a glance that Ji Yuning had just taken a shower.

Wearing a gray bathrobe, with her hair draped over her shoulders, her face appeared even whiter and smaller. After glancing at Ji Yuning's expression, Fang Bai confirmed his guess.

The second assumption is impossible.

Meeting Fang Bai's gaze, Ji Yuning pushed open the door and entered the study, "Auntie."

Fang Bai composed himself and said calmly, "Hmm."

"Is Auntie working?" Ji Yuning walked up to Fang Bai.

As Ji Yuning approached, a faint lemon scent wafted over, very sweet, like the smell of sugar.

I really wanted to work, but I've been spacing out for so long and haven't made any progress at all.

Fang Bai said softly, "I'm not working, just browsing."

Ji Yuning lowered her eyes and said calmly, "Auntie, go to sleep early. If you keep watching, you'll stay up all night again."

"You're still trying to persuade me?" Fang Bai said softly, resting his chin on his hand. "Why did you come to see me instead of going to sleep after your shower?"

"The room's air conditioner is broken," Ji Yuning said.

Fang Bai asked in surprise, "When did it break?"

“I don’t know,” Ji Yuning said. “I just found out.”

Fang Bai said "Oh," and then said, "I'll talk to Sister Wu tomorrow and have someone come and fix it."

Heating won't start until mid-November, and there's no air conditioning yet...

Fang Bai got up and walked outside. "I'll go find you a blanket. It'll be better to sleep with an extra layer on."

"…Um."

Ji Yuning followed behind Fang Bai, and a few minutes later, she went upstairs carrying the blanket Fang Bai had found for her.

Fang Bai came out of the bathroom, her hair already dried. She grabbed a coat from the rack and put it on. Just as she was about to leave the bedroom, someone knocked on the door.

After opening the door and seeing the situation at the entrance, Fang Bai was stunned.

Ji Yuning stood in front of the door, holding a quilt and a pillow, wearing the Hello Kitty pajamas that Fang Bai had bought for her.

Ji Yuning would never normally wear this, but now she's wearing it as if she's trying to win Fang Bai's favor, as if Fang Bai would agree to any outrageous request she makes.

A cold face paired with a pink Hello Kitty creates an inexplicable sense of incongruity.

Fang Bai released the doorknob. Although she had a guess in her mind, she still asked, "What's this...?"

"The room is cold," Ji Yuning pursed her lips and asked in a low voice, "Can I sleep with Auntie tonight?"

Under the covers, two hands unconsciously tightened, revealing someone's nervousness and anticipation.

Unexpectedly, Fang Bai didn't hesitate at all, "Come in."

Ji Yuning's heart skipped a beat.

Fang Bai stepped aside to make way for him and said, "I was going to go upstairs to call you."

While taking a shower, Fang Bai couldn't shake the idea that adding an extra blanket was a bad idea. He thought that Ji Yuning was already prone to illness, and sleeping in a cold room for a night might make her sick.

After thinking it over, Fang Bai decided to take a shower and go upstairs.

However, she wasn't trying to get Ji Yuning to sleep with her. She knew her place; Ji Yuning definitely wouldn't want to share a bed with her.

She wanted to switch rooms with Ji Yuning.

So when Ji Yuning entered the bedroom carrying the blankets, she saw Fang Bai standing by the bed, bending down to tidy the bed, and then piling them together and hugging them.

It was obvious what Fang Bai was going to do.

Ji Yuning's expression changed instantly, and her voice dropped a notch: "What are you doing, Auntie?"

Fang Bai turned around and said with a slight smile, "You sleep in my room, I'll sleep in yours."

After Fang Bai finished speaking, she lifted her foot to walk out, but the person in front of her turned around and left before her.

Without turning back.

Fang Bai was stunned for a moment, then immediately called out to the person who had already walked out of the bedroom and was about to disappear from sight.

"etc."

Ji Yuning stopped, and her expectations began to rekindle.

Fang Bai asked, "Where are you going?"

Ji Yuning subtly tightened her grip on her arms, but said calmly, "Go upstairs."

She didn't want to change rooms. If Fang Bai wanted to sleep in that cold room, she would just pretend that she hadn't come to see him tonight.

Ji Yuning glanced at Fang Bai, "Go to sleep early."

Fang Bai took two steps forward, carrying the blanket. "What are we doing upstairs? We agreed to switch rooms."

Fang Bai continued, "It's so cold standing here. There's no air conditioning in your room. You might get sick if you sleep at night."

Something was touched in Ji Yuning's heart, but she didn't move, instead asking, "Won't you sleep better?"

"..." Fang Bai's eyes curved into a smile as he whispered, "I am an adult."

Then Fang Bai walked up to Ji Yuning and said as if talking to a child, "Adults aren't afraid of anything."

Ji Yuning glanced at Fang Bai. Fang Bai seemed to have just come from a hot environment, the pink blush on his cheeks hadn't faded yet, and he exuded a sweet fragrance. His small body was hugging a quilt that was much wider than hers, giving him the feeling of a child hugging a big teddy bear.

How can he look like an adult?

The blanket was thick and heavy, and Fang Bai's arms were a little sore from holding it. As she loosened her arms, she said to Ji Yuning, "Go inside and sleep."

After saying that, Fang Bai wanted to go out, but Ji Yuning blocked his way at the door.

Ji Yuning said in a low voice, "I won't change rooms."

Upon hearing this, Fang Bai thought to himself, "Didn't you knock on the door first? How come—"

Before Fang Bai could finish his internal monologue, Ji Yuning's cold voice rang in his ears.

Ji Yuning said, "Let's sleep together."

Fang Bai was taken aback, then repeated, "Sleep together?"

Ji Yuning looked at Fang Bai and nodded: "Okay."

Why are you nodding?

She was asking a question, not making a suggestion.

But Ji Yuning clearly didn't hear Fang Bai's thoughts. She turned around and faced Fang Bai.

The two people, one standing outside the door and the other inside, blocked each other's way.

Fang Bai looked at the door blocked by Ji Yuning, then glanced at the blankets where the two were touching. After a couple of breaths, Fang Bai took the lead and stepped back to make way for Ji Yuning.

She planned to wait until Ji Yuning went into the room before going out.

However, after Ji Yuning entered the bedroom, she immediately closed the door.

With a click as the door closed, Fang Bai shifted his feet and lowered his voice to the person standing in front of the door, saying, "Why don't you go upstairs to sleep, Auntie?"

Ji Yuning looked up at Fang Bai, whose back was pressed against the wall, like a small animal trembling in a corner after being bullied, restrained and afraid of something.

Ji Yuning's eyes flickered, and she asked in a low, husky voice, "Auntie, are you afraid of me?"

Fang Bai was stunned for a moment after his thoughts were exposed, then immediately said, "How could that be?"

The speed at which he refuted her after being stunned made it hard to believe whether what she said was true or false.

A thoughtful look flashed across Ji Yuning's eyes before she asked, "Does your aunt dislike me?"

Fang Bai shook his head without hesitation: "No."

Ji Yuning took small steps forward, getting closer to Fang Bai, and asked, "Does Auntie want to get sick?"

Fang Bai paused for a moment, considering whether Ji Yuning would let her leave if she said she wanted to.

The next second, Ji Yuning's voice came into my ears: "If you're sick, you need to go to the hospital for an IV drip."

The thought of the needle piercing his skin made Fang Bai instantly say, "I don't want to."

"Can we sleep together?" Ji Yuning asked in a much lower voice.

Fang Bai was momentarily dazed, "...Okay."

Ji Yuning smiled slightly. "Let's go."

By the time Fang Bai realized what was happening, Ji Yuning had already pulled him to the bedside.
