Chapitre 7

.

The physical education and health education class is held in the school clinic.

Ji Li had spent his entire first year of high school physical education classes in the school clinic, becoming acquainted with the school doctor and having seen students come to the clinic for various reasons. However, he never expected to witness the most bizarre injury incident in history that afternoon.

Five or six boys formed a circle around the room, carrying a boy in a flurry of activity as they rushed in, shouting as they did so:

"Watch out! Watch out!"

"Don't push or get too close!"

"There's nowhere left to walk around here!"

"Get him in! Get him in quickly! Doctor?"

Ji Li retreated to the corner, looking across the crowd at the injured person in the center.

One of the boys noticed him as he passed by and was visibly taken aback: "Academic genius? What are you doing here?"

This face is so famous in the bridge that almost no one who has seen it would not recognize it, whether because of its achievements or its appearance.

Ji Li turned his head: "What happened to the person inside?"

The boy instinctively replied, "I was splashed with pepper spray."

Ji Li recalled the distorted face of the injured man who had just been carried in and wondered if he had seen wrong: "Shen Huai?"

"Oh, right, you know him?" the boy asked in surprise. "He's the one who got splashed."

According to the boys, their first class in the afternoon was also physical education. After the teacher announced that everyone was dismissed, they ran into the gymnasium and found a guy with a buzz cut waiting for them.

Upon seeing them, the man with the buzz cut not only strode over but also pinpointed Shen Huai directly from the crowd, launching into a barrage of questions: "What did you promise me? You said that if I helped you teach that kid surnamed Ying a lesson, you would wholeheartedly help me pursue Xiao Ling. Is this how you wholeheartedly help me?!"

Shen Huai was held by the collar the whole time and couldn't break free no matter what. Feeling the strange looks from the people around him and being so embarrassed in public, he became furious on the spot: "Didn't I help you? Didn't I help you get her contact information or find out her hobbies? Didn't I help you pass on messages and confess your love every day or do all the hard work of delivering gifts? Tell me, in what way did I not help you?!"

"Then why did she suddenly dump me?!"

"Go ask her why she dumped you! What are you doing coming to me like this?!"

"She was chatting with me just fine this morning, but then she deleted me this afternoon. If you hadn't done something shady, how could her attitude have changed so drastically?!"

"Damn it, why don't you look in the mirror and see how pathetic you are? I don't care if you get dumped! She was the one who must have been blind to even consider you!!"

It's unclear which word Shen Huai used that triggered the other person's sensitive nerve, but the man with the buzz cut suddenly reached out and grabbed his hair.

Shen Huai raised his hands to resist, but he couldn't break free from the other man's grip. The man with the buzz cut, his eyes bloodshot, gave a cold laugh that seemed to say, "Just as I thought," and then violently splashed the liquid from the bottle he was holding in his other hand onto Shen Huai's face.

"Ahhhh—"

A scream instantly echoed throughout the entire stadium.

.

Shen Huai's eyes were successfully opened after the school doctor rinsed and performed emergency treatment, but his vision was completely black and he couldn't see anything. He was so frightened by the possibility that he was going blind that he burst into tears and cried out that he had to go to the hospital.

The infirmary was too small, so the other students were sent back to class. The school doctor took his phone and went out to call an ambulance.

Ying Yunsheng was working on a physics problem when he heard the news. The students who had been sent back spread the news among themselves, and somehow it reached his deskmate's ears. The deskmate pulled him aside and gossiped, "This is the first time I've heard something so outrageous in all my years of schooling. How much must that thug hate Shen Huai to do something so cruel?"

Is that cruel?

"You've already splashed pepper spray in their eyes, isn't that harsh enough?"

"It wasn't sulfuric acid that was splashed on it."

"Uh..." Ying Yunsheng looked up and saw his deskmate staring blankly at him. He then added, "Isn't that already very lucky?"

His deskmate slapped his forehead, suddenly realizing, "Oh right, thank goodness it was just pepper spray." Seeing him stand up from his seat, he said, "Where are you going? Class is about to start."

Ying Yunsheng: "I left a book in the cafeteria when I was eating lunch. I'll go get it."

The school clinic is located next to the cafeteria.

Ying Yunsheng first went to the cafeteria to get the textbooks that were placed in the corner, and then went into the infirmary.

Shen Huai sat alone on a chair in the infirmary, trembling all over, his palms sweating profusely. His eyes were still burning with pain, and he couldn't see anything. He could only clench his teeth so tightly that his fingernails almost tore his clothes apart.

Ying Yunsheng stopped by the door, gripped the spine of the book, and pounded heavily on the door.

A loud bang suddenly erupted on the flat ground.

Shen Huai was already on the verge of collapse. Upon hearing the commotion, his first reaction was that the buzz cut was back. He let out a yell and jumped up from his chair, but his legs gave way and he fell onto the storage cabinet in front of him, causing the medicine bottles and boxes on it to crash down with a clatter.

The metal cabinet wobbled and slowly tilted forward.

.

The man with the buzz cut who had been splashed with pepper spray was detained by the arriving PE teachers and questioned about the cause and details of the incident.

Cun Tou dropped out of school and started working in society at a young age. People who know him usually call him "Brother Cun".

He and Shen Huai were originally just casual acquaintances. Not long ago, he was asked to help someone block a student on a bridge. The condition for the deal was that the other party would help him pursue a girl on the bridge.

The first few days went smoothly; they exchanged contact information, looked after each other, and exchanged gifts regularly. The girls had to attend classes, but whenever he had free time, the guy with the buzz cut would sneak into the school and hide in the shadows to watch the girls read and write.

Until yesterday, the girl suddenly blocked all his contact information.

Confused and resentful, he went directly to the girl for an explanation, only to be met with a cold laugh.

The girl received a letter that day.

Tucked inside the cake box that the man with the buzz cut gave her, it was a very common postcard, the kind that's sold on a table outside the bookstore across the bridge.

"You've been flirting with me online just for money, haven't you?"

"What did you say?"

"Stop pretending. Tell me, where do you get the money to eat, drink, and flirt with girls all the time? Aren't your ex-girlfriends supporting you?"

"I'm not, you have to believe me..."

"I don't believe you! Your own little brother admitted to me that you have a whole bunch of 'babies, wives, and darlings' on your phone. What are you pretending to be all lovey-dovey for? How disgusting!"

"What underlings?"

"Isn't he that guy from school who always brings me flowers and cakes on your behalf? I fucking thought you were really going all out, even bribing students from my school to help you pursue me. But if he hadn't exposed you, I wouldn't know what kind of person you are!"

"Xiaoling, let me explain..."

"Get lost! Stay away from me from now on! Since you dare to target me, you must know how much money I have. If you dare to come near me again, I'll call the police and send you to jail for life!!"

The man with the buzz cut stared at the girl as she left, his face ashen, but he didn't dare to do anything.

He was used to being cunning and sly, but this was the first time he had encountered such a cold-blooded attack. The remaining rationality in his mind supported him in questioning the truth of the matter, but his anger burned through his heart and lungs after he found the bookstore selling postcards outside the bridge that the girl had mentioned.

"What does the postcard say?" The shopkeeper, an elderly man wearing reading glasses, looked up from the newspaper. "I don't remember the specifics, but I know the gist of it. It's about advising a girl not to fall for a gold digger who cheats her out of money and sex."

What do people who buy postcards look like?

"I don't know. When he came, he was wearing a hat and mask, and even gloves. But he was wearing a school uniform, and his voice sounded like a man's."

Did he say why he needed your help to write it?

"Is that even a question? He obviously doesn't want anyone to see his handwriting and realize it was him who wrote it." The shop manager looked suspicious. "Why are you asking about this?"

The man with the buzz cut only asked this much, and he spontaneously found the answers to the remaining inconsistencies in his mind.

Why are you dressed so conservatively?

Shen Huai was afraid that if he showed his face, the store manager would remember him and recognize him immediately.

Why write postcards by hand?

Because online chat leaves a record, Shen Huai was afraid that using social media accounts would be discovered.

Why put it inside the cake box?

Because whenever he had free time, he would sneak into the bridge to check on the progress, Shen Huai was afraid that if he spoke directly, the other side of the wall would hear him.

Shen Huai had a physical education class the next day.

The man with the buzz cut jumped straight into the school gymnasium. After a standoff, one felt the other was refusing to admit anything, while the other felt the other was being unreasonable.

Both were hot-blooded young men. In his anger, Shen Huai spoke recklessly, which happened to hit the other party's sore spot. The next second, he was splashed with pepper spray all over his face and eyes.

Is that considered ruthless?

Ying Yunsheng leaned against the door, quietly watching the metal medicine cabinet smash towards Shen Huai.

Why didn't that crew-cut guy just find a bottle of sulfuric acid?

The school doctor came in after making the call and saw this scene. He was terrified and rushed over, saying, "What are you doing? What are you doing? Didn't I tell you not to run around if you can't see?! I've already called an ambulance, we're taking you to the hospital now!!"

When the school doctor glanced over, Ying Yunsheng lent a hand and helped to lift the medicine cabinet.

The school doctor hurriedly thanked him, not even having time to see what he looked like, and together with the arriving physical education teacher, they forcibly dragged Shen Huai out of the infirmary to wait for the ambulance outside the school.

The group left in a grand procession. Ying Yunsheng lowered his eyes and turned to return to the classroom when a soft voice suddenly called out in his ear: "Ying Yunsheng."

His heart nearly skipped a beat, and he turned around abruptly.

Ji Li watched as he jumped up and fell down as if someone had suddenly stepped on his tail: "Is my voice scary?"

The air was silent for a full five seconds.

Ji Li waved her hand in front of his eyes: "Still not ready? You were really scared?"

Ying Yunsheng subconsciously took a step back.

Then he realized that he had no reason to feel guilty. After all, there were no surveillance cameras in the infirmary, and he hadn't made a sound from beginning to end. Shen Huai was now half-blind and didn't even know that he had been there. As long as he didn't admit it, no one would ever suspect him.

He understood this before he spoke up: "No."

Ji Li: "Why are you in the infirmary?"

"Just came to see my classmate."

"Are you here to see a classmate who once caused a disturbance around you?"

"Well……"
