Ghosts in Medical School Horror Files - Chapter 55

Chapter 55

"What did you just say? You boiled water using a measuring cup?" Xia Chen asked nervously.

Li Xiao burst out laughing, then slapped Xia Chen hard on the back of the head before saying with a smile, "Don't worry, I've already washed it."

Xia Chen's expression immediately changed, and he asked nervously, "Could there be something else in the measuring cup?"

Xia Chen immediately felt nauseous, his stomach churning and he vomiting in waves.

Upon hearing that the cup was found under the lab bench, Xia Chen's face darkened even more. He vaguely remembered his dorm mates telling him about a scoundrel senior who, while conducting an experiment in the lab, suddenly felt an urgent need to urinate. However, the experiment was at a crucial stage and he couldn't leave, so he pawned the professor's cup while the professor was away…you know what I mean. Afterwards, fearing the professor's scolding, this scoundrel rinsed the cup clean and put it back in its original place.

The cup wouldn't appear out of nowhere in the experiment. Could it be something a senior student discarded after relieving himself?

That heartless Li Xiao!

Li Xiao wore a sweet smile as she looked at Xia Chen's pale face, a hint of smugness appearing on her own face.

Xia Chen glared angrily at Li Xiao, who smiled awkwardly and said, "I meant well. I was just doing an experiment for fun at first, but then I saw you needed water, so I gave you the boiled water."

Xia Chen's eyes widened, while Li Xiao's voice grew softer.

Ye Cheng coughed and turned to Li Xiao, saying, "Li Xiao, you can't play pranks like that anymore! Understand?"

Li Xiao blinked and deliberately spoke in a respectful manner, like an ancient palace maid, "Yes, I know, Xiao Ye Ye."

Xia Chen gave a helpless bitter smile, unsure whether to laugh or cry as he was carried into Li Xiao's arms.

At this moment, Ye Cheng coughed again, cleared his throat, and said, "Now that we've finished those frivolous things, we should get down to something serious."

"So-called serious matters are things that are neither long nor short, like something out of a historical drama," Li Xiao said with a grin.

Ye Cheng rolled his eyes at Li Xiao with some displeasure. As if she could see Ye Cheng's dissatisfaction, Li Xiao secretly stuck out her tongue and quietly stepped aside.

Li Xiao pretended to help her colleague tidy up, but she secretly listened in. As she helped her colleague gather things from the floor, and her colleague handed her something, Li Xiao muttered a harsh curse under her breath, "Can't you see I'm busy?"

Besides Xia Chen, Ye Cheng, and Li Xiao, several forensic doctors were hurriedly making final preparations and records in the corridor. This was the third group of forensic doctors to have vomited up; the previous doctor had vomited yellow bile. The corpse was truly disgusting, not only shredded into mangled flesh, but also covered in plump maggots. What was most infuriating was that these maggots seemed to possess a high level of intelligence. They would jump onto anyone who approached.

The flesh was mangled beyond recognition, piled high in blood. To dispose of it, the forensic pathologists had to scoop it out of the blood by hand. But for them, that wasn't the most disgusting part. The most disgusting thing was that maggots would crawl up their hands and onto their bodies!

The maggots crawled incredibly fast. As soon as they touched a person's body, they rushed towards the navel. Once inside, they quickly took a large bite, and if the navel broke, they would immediately burrow into the body through the opening.

Just imagine how terrible it would be if a person's blood vessels were filled with white maggots!

One forensic pathologist had already fallen victim to maggots; one had bitten through his navel, and a maggot had burrowed inside. After the pathologist screamed in agony, the other maggots on his body rushed towards his navel. It was as if his scream was a rallying cry, summoning the maggots.

The injured forensic doctors had already been taken away, and the remaining doctors were wearing full protective suits and air filters that looked like pig noses. Even so, they were still infected in the end.

Ye Cheng watched the forensic doctors bustling around the room, then took out a cigarette and lit it. He then looked at Xia Chen, who had a gloomy expression and seemed preoccupied.

Ye Cheng patted Xia Chen on the shoulder, and Xia Chen raised his head.

Sunlight streamed through the window behind Ye Cheng, and in the backlight, Ye Cheng's figure seemed to be drawn in a circle by the light, which was quite interesting.

Xia Chen couldn't help but ask, "I heard there's been another death here?"

Ye Cheng nodded, took a drag of his cigarette, and flicked the butt out, which drew a perfect arc in the air.

"Something happened, that's why I have a few questions for you," Ye Cheng said.

Xia Chen nodded, thinking to himself, "Let them ask, what can I do? They're the boss."

Ye Cheng reassured Xia Chen, saying, "Actually, I just wanted to understand the general situation."

"Stop being so wishy-washy. I'm going to have dinner with Luo Shimin later. If you have something to say, just say it now," Xia Chen said.

Ye Cheng raised an eyebrow. He then pulled a thin bag from his pocket, inside which was a student ID from Yishi Academy.

Ye Cheng raised his hand with an extremely handsome air, displaying the composed expression befitting a male lead in a TV drama. His eyes even held a hint of pity for talent. One hand was in his pocket, the other holding a thin file folder—a pose that would captivate countless young women. He was always handsome; no matter what changes occurred to his face, a person's eyes never changed.

Ye Cheng coughed to control his emotions, "Take a look and see if this is yours." As he spoke, Ye Cheng handed over the bag.

Backlit, Ye Cheng's pose was very handsome, like a literary young man from a literary work. In the backlight, the literary young man stretched out his arm, as if he was holding back his lover who was about to leave.

Xia Chen wasn't a lover; he was a training partner. Xia Chen took the bag, turned it over, and found a student ID inside—a student ID from Yishi Academy.

Xia Chen glanced at Ye Cheng, then turned his head and said calmly:

"It's not mine."

Ye Cheng was utterly astonished and immediately said, "How could it not be yours?"

Xia Chen glared at Ye Cheng, then handed the bag back, and said coldly, "First, my name is not Liao Chuan. Second, I am not a woman."

Ye Cheng opened the bag and saw that, sure enough, the student ID card inside had a line written in large letters: Female.

There was also a photo of Liao Chuan posted next to it.

Ye Cheng coughed awkwardly, and Li Xiao, who had been pretending to help her colleague, blushed instantly. Ye Cheng had instructed Li Xiao to keep that piece of evidence until it was verified, then return it to the forensic department. However, Li Xiao had accidentally taken the wrong one—the deceased's student ID.

You can't entirely blame her; the corpse was so disgusting today that she vomited three times and just wanted to get home as soon as possible, so she was careless and almost caused a serious mistake.

Ye Cheng smiled awkwardly to the side, his smile clearly conveying the word "embarrassment" to Xia Chen.

Li Xiao quickly grabbed another bag from the forensic department and handed it to Ye Cheng with a blush, earning him an unpleasant glare.

"Take a look and see if this is yours?" Ye Cheng said, handing the bag over again.

Xia Chen took the bag and looked inside; he was stunned.

The bag contained nothing unusual; it was the same as the previous bag—a student ID from Yishi Academy!

The only difference is that this student ID belongs to him!

Xia Chen unconsciously looked up, then immediately reached into his pockets. He emptied his pockets completely—his camera, white gloves, even Luo Shimin's chocolates—but his student ID was nowhere to be found!

"That's strange, where did it go?" Xia Chen said.

Ye Cheng sneered and took out Xia Chen's student ID from a pile of things. Xia Chen's student ID exuded an aura of loneliness in the bag, just like Xia Chen himself. This student ID seemed to be an abandoned orphan.

"What are you looking for? Your student ID is right here," Ye Cheng said.

Xia Chen frowned, took the student ID from Ye Cheng, and examined it again. It was indeed his. He hesitated for a moment and said, "How did this get here? Where did you get it?"

Ye Cheng sneered, took out a cigarette, lit it, took a deep breath, and exhaled white smoke. He turned to look at Xia Chen and then said, "Beside the dead."

"Beside the deceased?" Xia Chen repeated as if in a dream. Ye Cheng nodded and said calmly, "That's right, right beside the deceased."

Xia Chen raised an eyebrow. He clearly remembered putting his student ID and other documents into his wallet before going to bed last night. Today, because he accompanied Luo Shimin to see the cherry blossoms, he didn't notice that something was missing from his wallet.

What did this person do with Xia Chen's wallet?

Xia Chen frowned sharply, only two words echoing in his mind: "Framed!"

“My student ID was with me until last night. The fact that it suddenly appeared here makes me think of only one possibility: someone deliberately stole it. Perhaps they wanted to distract the police and give them more time,” Xia Chen said.

Ye Cheng patted Xia Chen on the shoulder and said, "You think the same way I do. I don't think you would bring your student ID to commit a crime and then lose it." Ye Cheng pondered for a moment and said, "What I'm most worried about isn't actually that." As he spoke, Ye Cheng lowered his voice, almost whispering in Xia Chen's ear, "I suspect she was bitten to death by something."

Xia Chen immediately glanced at Ye Cheng, who then leaned his head closer.

“I think my intuition is correct, and I found bite marks on her body. That is to say, Liao Chuan may have encountered some large animal and been attacked. That is why her body was bitten in this horrific state.”

After listening to Ye Cheng's words, Xia Chen crossed his arms and fell into deep thought.

Within a ten-mile radius, let alone large animals, you probably couldn't even find a big fat cat. Recently, students at Yishi College organized a wildlife committee, but this organization is definitely not the kind of small animal protection association you usually see. On the contrary, they are precisely the ones who stifle the very essence of small animals.

These students all come from well-off families and are used to eating lavish meals. Now they want to hunt animals themselves and make barbecues.

Their primary targets ranged from wild boars to field mice, leaving no stone unturned. As a result, not only were large animals nowhere to be seen near Yishi Academy, but even a small stray dog was nowhere to be found. The small animals had long since avoided this dangerous place, so the likelihood of a large animal attacking Liao Chuan was extremely low.

Besides, if there were large, aggressive animals in the laboratory, how could the school possibly keep such animals in the laboratory building?

After thinking about this for a moment, Xia Chen asked in a low voice, "What kind of large animal do you think it is?"

Ye Cheng shook his head, stroked his chin, and finally spoke the truth: "With this kind of bite force, I can only think of animals like tigers, crocodiles, and leopards. However..." Ye Cheng glanced at Xia Chen and swallowed the rest of his sentence.

“It’s highly unlikely that these animals would be in our school. The school has experienced a series of paranormal events in recent years, which has had a very negative impact on the school. Recently, the school has done a lot of work to salvage its image. I think it’s unlikely they would put animals like crocodiles or tigers in the laboratory building,” Xia Chen said.

Ye Cheng held his chin, Xia Chen's words made a lot of sense. But, how exactly was that wound caused? The forensic doctor could tell from Liao Chuan's expression when he died that Liao Chuan was conscious, and according to simple tests, there was no lethal poison on Liao Chuan's body.

According to the forensic examination's preliminary assessment, Liao Chuan's injuries were not caused by internal injuries, poisoning, or myocardial infarction. The forensic examination concluded that Liao Chuan's only fatal injury was numerous external wounds.

Good heavens, Liao Chuan was conscious when she died. That is to say, Liao Chuan clearly knew that something was tearing her apart when she died. She watched her body being chewed up! She listened to her flesh being chewed in the mouth of a beast, making "squeak, squeak, squeak" sounds.

What could be more painful than dying while fully conscious?

The thought made Xia Chen feel nauseous. What would it be like if one day he too ended up on a wild beast's plate, watching his body being slowly chewed up?

“There are many things I find strange about this case. For example, Liao Chuan’s body was already infested with maggots when she died. Maggots usually appear when a body begins to decompose. It took about ten hours from Liao Chuan’s death until we found her. I don’t think the warmth outside was enough to cause her to decompose so quickly. Her body was like it had been soaked in aqua regia, which not only made a mess of the body but also delayed the investigation.”

Ye Cheng hesitated for a moment before continuing, "Her body decomposed too quickly, and those strange maggots are all suspicious points."

Xia Chen suddenly raised his head, his eyes, filled with the wisdom of life, looking at Ye Cheng.

“Xiamen Group,” Xia Chen said.

Ye Cheng was taken aback.

Xia Chen said, "Liao Chuan's death is full of strange things. My intuition tells me that this time it may be the work of the Xia Group again. Don't forget, almost every mysterious event is closely related to this unfortunate group. Maybe, just maybe this time is no exception."

Ye Cheng nodded.

“Actually,” Ye Cheng said.

"What?" Xia Chen asked.

“Come with me to the police station. Xiao Rou’s files are at the police station from yesterday,” Ye Cheng said.

Xia Chen hesitated for a moment. He had already made plans to have dinner with Luo Shimin that evening. The sweet dinner he was supposed to enjoy was going to be ruined. He smiled at Ye Cheng and nodded.

"Then let's go now. You joined to prove your innocence, so even if you're a tainted witness, that's fine," Ye Cheng joked.

Ye Cheng gave Li Xiao some instructions on how to finish up, and asked Li Xiao to lead the team back, while he followed Xia Chen downstairs.

When the two reached the corner between the fourth and third floors, Xia Chen couldn't help but glance in that direction.

Suddenly, a snow-white wall appeared before his eyes.

How could it be a wall? Where's that door from before?

Could it be that there was a wall to begin with, and he used some kind of power to travel to another room?

This is truly a mystery.

Xia Chen instinctively clutched his pocket, inside which lay the diary Hu Rongrong had found. The diary clearly recorded the story of this room; could it be that the diary wasn't a prophecy, but something that would come true one by one?

Xia Chen felt a little panicked. This was the last thing he wanted to see, because it mentioned that Luo Shimin would die unexpectedly. He would rather believe that this diary was a premeditated act.

Suddenly, a hand appeared on his shoulder, and Xia Chen immediately turned his head.

Ye Cheng looked at Xia Chen expressionlessly, his hand on Xia Chen's shoulder.
