Ghosts in Medical School Horror Files - Chapter 61
Everyone burst into laughter. Li Xiao handed over a handkerchief, and only then did Ye Cheng realize that he had been tricked by Li Xiao.
"You brat!" Ye Cheng cursed.
Li Xiao pursed her lips and chuckled.
“If you do this again, I’ll dock your pay! I’ll call you in the middle of the night and tell you your position is wrong so you can get up and sleep again!” After saying that, Ye Cheng turned to the forensic expert and said, “Let’s begin.” Just then, Li Xiao walked in with a serious expression and said, “Little Ye, something’s happened to Luo Shimin.” When Ye Cheng and Li Xiao arrived at the drainage ditch of Yishi Academy, Xia Chen, who was pale-faced, was also with them.
The main drainage pipes at Yishi College are very large and tall, reportedly over two meters high. They were designed this way to withstand torrential rains and floods, but tragically, this became Luo Shimin's final resting place.
The person who reported the incident was a worker who was repairing the drainage system that day, but unexpectedly discovered a female corpse. The first police officer who arrived at the scene after the report had already identified the deceased as Luo Shimin through the information.
Upon seeing the mangled corpse lying on the ground, Xia Chen quickly ran over. As soon as he reached the body and saw that familiar face, Xia Chen's world suddenly spun around him.
He stared blankly at the face, which spun around like a kaleidoscope from his childhood. Suddenly, he realized that the face should have been smiling, not dead. Xia Chen's legs went weak, and he squatted down, immediately embracing Luo Shimin's body.
Like Xiao Rou, Luo Shimin's corpse had been torn to pieces by the monster. Only her upper body remained; the rest of her body had been ripped to shreds. The rotten flesh mixed with the blood looked like a pot of minced meat.
Blood was everywhere, a crimson expanse all around.
Xia Chen knelt down in front of Luo Shimin, hugged her tightly, and whispered, "Luo Shimin, what's wrong?"
He shook Luo Shimin twice, and Luo Shimin's body lay quietly in his arms.
"Luo Shimin, what's wrong with you? Didn't you want to hear me talk? Didn't you want to hear me say those saccharine sweet nothings? Luo Shimin, what's wrong with you? Get up and listen to me!" Xia Chen's voice gradually grew louder.
"Luo Shimin, listen to me, listen to me. You are the kindest, cutest, and most beautiful girl I have ever met. I... I... I will never fall in love with anyone else but you. Do you understand? I love you!" Xia Chen said hoarsely, looking at Luo Shimin's smiling face.
He held Luo Shimin's frail body tightly, gripping her shoulders, wishing he could melt her into his own body so that they would never be separated again.
Xia Chen looked at Luo Shimin in anguish, shaking her body painfully as he said urgently and painfully, "Luo Shimin, I love you, I really love you."
Luo Shimin's slender body was stiff, her face deathly pale—all because the vibrant blood within her had vanished. There was no fear on her face; instead, she smiled as if she were seeing the most beautiful cherry blossoms and her favorite person. Her smile was beautiful, and it was forever etched on her face.
A single tear fell onto Luo Shimin's fair and delicate skin. That tear belonged to Xia Chen, who never shed a tear. He looked at Luo Shimin with painful, deep affection, his heart filled with endless regret.
"Luo Shimin, don't go. It's all my fault, it's all my fault, I'm too late. If I had, if I had come earlier, maybe you wouldn't be dead. Luo Shimin, don't go."
Xia Chen choked back sobs, his face filled with guilt and pain. He held Luo Shimin's broken body tightly, and in his eyes, no matter when, no matter where, no matter what she looked like, he would always think she was the most beautiful.
She was his angel.
Xia Chen gently brushed aside Luo Shimin's loose hair. Suddenly, a pair of hands patted his shoulder. Xia Chen looked up, and Ye Cheng read one word in his eyes: "Distraught."
Ye Cheng gritted his teeth, swallowing the words that were on the tip of his tongue. What could be more painful than the pain of separation by death? His beloved's body lay in his arms; what could be more heartbreaking?
Ye Cheng swallowed all the words that could have comforted him, clenched his fists, and shook his head.
“Xia Chen,” Li Xiao suddenly said.
Ye Cheng glanced at Li Xiao, his eyes filled with gratitude. Perhaps only a woman could solve this kind of problem at this moment?
“Xia Chen, we are also very saddened by Luo Shimin’s death. But the best way to avenge Luo Shimin is not to sit here and cry, but to find out who the Empress Dowager is behind. Xia Chen, shall we take Luo Shimin’s body back to the morgue first? Don’t call her, don’t leave her here alone, it’s so cold here!” As Li Xiao said the last sentence, he choked up, his eyes reddening and tears welling up.
Upon hearing that Luo Shimin's body was to be disposed of, Xia Chen went berserk. He tightly embraced Luo Shimin's remaining upper body, like a child protecting his toy, and glared at Li Xiao with hostile eyes.
Ye Cheng's heart sank.
Xia Chen couldn't keep holding Luo Shimin's body forever! So, he stepped forward and said seriously, "Xia Chen, we'll take Luo Shimin back, you..."
"No! No one can take her away from me!" Xia Chen clung to Luo Shimin's body like a child. Ye Cheng frowned and walked forward. Suddenly, Xia Chen stood up, still holding Luo Shimin's body, and tried to run away. Ye Cheng immediately rushed forward and knocked Xia Chen unconscious with a karate chop.
“Xiao Yeye,” Li Xiao said, her voice choked with sobs, her tone full of complaint, as if she hated Xiao Yeye for ruining the couple’s last gathering.
Ye Cheng shook his head helplessly. He felt a pang of regret too. With a hardened heart, Ye Cheng turned to Li Xiao and said, "Immediately arrange to send Luo Shimin's body to the research institute. Have the experts carefully study the bite marks on Luo Shimin's wounds." Ye Cheng's face darkened, and he said angrily, "Tell these bastard experts and professors that if they can't submit a complete report this time, I'll send them to the zoo to feed the tigers!"
Li Xiao nodded. By the light of his flashlight, he saw Xia Chen lying on the ground, clinging tightly to Luo Shimin. Later, it took three male detectives considerable effort to pry Xia Chen's hands off Luo Shimin's wrists. They said it was the first time they'd ever seen an unconscious person cling so tightly to another. It was as if that person was a part of him, and he would rather die than be separated from her.
Luo Shimin's body was sent to the laboratory for research, and by the time Xia Chen woke up, it was already a reality. Xia Chen climbed onto the roof of the dormitory, and in the blank night, every star seemed like Luo Shimin's shining eyes.
Xia Chen was sitting on the roof. If he leaned forward even slightly, he would fall to the ground eight stories below.
Sitting here, one can overlook the entire Yishi Academy during the day. Now, in this vast darkness, Xia Chen can only rely on his memory to discern every corner he and Luo Shimin had traversed.
The thought of Luo Shimin sent a sharp pang of pain through Xia Chen's heart. What had happened to his life? His dearest sister, Tang Ying, was missing; his favorite girl, Luo Shimin, was dead. Was all of this simply because he was unlucky?
Suddenly, Xia Chen became very depressed. He suddenly didn't want to care about anything, not the conspiracies of the Xia Group, nor did he want to investigate anything anymore. He just wanted to sit there blankly, not thinking about anything, letting his mind go empty.
"Is there any point in what you're doing?" Suddenly a voice reached his ears. Xia Chen subconsciously turned around, and in the hazy night, a girl dressed in white floated into Xia Chen's sight like a fairy.
Xia Chen blinked. The person walking towards him wasn't a fairy, but Hu Rongrong. In the bright moonlight, Hu Rongrong's face was as radiant as a full moon.
Do you even know what we should be doing right now?
Before she even reached Xia Chen, Hu Rongrong immediately asked him a question.
Xia Chen turned his head away and ignored Hu Rongrong, while Hu Rongrong silently walked up to Xia Chen.
"Don't think that just because you love Luo Shimin everyone else is dead. Let me tell you, I'm more heartbroken than you are when Luo Shimin dies!" Hu Rongrong angrily cursed.
Xia Chen acted like a dead man, ignoring Hu Rongrong completely.
Hu Rongrong grabbed his arm tightly and angrily shouted, "Xia Chen, are you even a man?"
Xia Chen gave Hu Rongrong a cold look, and Hu Rongrong immediately retorted, "If you're a man, stand up! Let's go avenge Luo Shimin!"
Xia Chen coldly pushed Hu Rongrong's hand away and turned his head away. His face was as cold as ice, and his heart was cold as well.
Hu Rongrong sneered and said coldly, "What's the point of you sinking into this?"
“Even if we get our revenge, Luo Shimin will never come back,” Xia Chen said coldly.
Hu Rongrong grabbed Xia Chen's collar and shouted angrily, "Don't you understand what Luo Shimin meant? Why did Luo Shimin die in a sewer pipe so far from the school? She was investigating the whereabouts of that thing! Why was she smiling at the last moment? Because she knew you would solve this mystery! Xia Chen! Luo Shimin died for you! She did it so that you could uncover the true face of the Xia Group!"
Xia Chen's shoulders trembled involuntarily; Hu Rongrong's words made perfect sense. A sudden inspiration flashed through his chaotic mind, and he immediately asked nervously, "Hu Rongrong, did you bring that diary with you?"
"Yes, yes!" Hu Rongrong quickly replied.
Hu Rongrong immediately pulled out the old diary from her pocket, along with a small wolf-eye flashlight. Xia Chen quickly took the diary and flashlight, and swiftly opened the diary, turning to May 15th in chronological order.
The black pages of the diary and the specks of red blood looked particularly frightening in this gloomy night, and a strange, eerie aura surrounded the diary.
The diary entry read:
May 15th, sunny.
When Xia Chen read this page of the notes, he should be sitting on the rooftop of his dormitory. Xia Chen began to question the authenticity of this diary, and I'm glad he finally started to believe it. If you, Xia Chen, are reading this now, I must remind you that you should put down the diary and listen carefully to the sounds around you.
Could everything written in this diary be true? Who is it? Who is foretelling their fate?
The diary entry read: "Tonight, he will see Luo Shimin again."
As soon as Xia Chen finished reading those words, he heard light footsteps.
Immediately afterwards, Hu Rongrong screamed.
"Xiaomin?" Hu Rongrong called out.
Yes, isn't that Luo Shimin standing under the moonlight?
The moonlight accentuated her smiling face, making her even more beautiful than the moon itself.
Upon seeing Luo Shimin, Xia Chen suddenly dropped the diary in his hand. He immediately walked towards Luo Shimin, looking utterly dejected, while Luo Shimin stood there motionless.
"Is it you?" Xia Chen murmured.
Suddenly, Hu Rongrong shouted, "Watch out!"
Hu Rongrong rushed forward and grabbed Ye Cheng. Ye Cheng was startled, realizing that one more step forward would send him plummeting from the building. Seeing that Luo Shimin was gone, Hu Rongrong looked at Xia Chen with worry. Xia Chen stared blankly at Hu Rongrong. Had... had it all just been a dream?
On May 22, the sky was overcast.
The old teaching buildings of Yishi Academy were set against a gloomy sky, which resembled a rotten grape. A young boy ran swiftly along the cobblestone path of Yishi Academy.
This was the third time he had run this route; the boy had practically turned the entire Yishi Academy upside down. He shuttled between the dormitories and the teaching buildings, constantly searching for her. His arms were now covered in scrapes, and his feet were blistered.
After the boy ran past quickly, a melancholy-looking girl slowly walked over. She looked sadly in the direction the boy had gone, her eyes filled with tears.
"Xia Chen, when are you going to stop making a scene?" Hu Rongrong wiped away the tears that rolled down her face with her snow-white fingers.
Luo Shimin is dead, her best friend is dead, and she is more heartbroken than anyone else. But seeing Xia Chen so crazy, Hu Rongrong is even more heartbroken.
She's already lost one good friend; she can't afford to lose another!
Suddenly, Hu Rongrong heard a "plop" sound. Hu Rongrong was startled; they were very close to the lake. Could it be that Xia Chen had committed suicide by drowning?
Hu Rongrong's legs buckled and she almost fell, but she managed to stumble to the lakeside. Sure enough, she saw large ripples spreading out from the center of the lake, as if the water had swallowed a person.
Hu Rongrong cried out "Ah!" and looked around frantically, but almost everyone was in class and there was no one there. Hu Rongrong burst into tears, took off her shoes, and hurriedly walked into the lake.
"Hu Rongrong, what are you doing?" Suddenly, a voice came from behind.
Hu Rongrong turned around in alarm, only to see Xia Chen standing behind her with a deathly pale face.
Hu Rongrong rushed forward immediately and hugged Xia Chen tightly, bursting into tears. She grabbed Xia Chen's collar, sobbing, and said anxiously, "You wretched Xia Chen, what have you done! You made me so worried. I thought, I thought you'd jumped into the lake and committed suicide!"
Hu Rongrong looked up, and in that instant, a jolt of electricity ran through Xia Chen's heart. He instinctively hugged Hu Rongrong's waist and whispered, "Luo Shimin." Then, Xia Chen couldn't help but close his eyes and press his soft lips against hers.
Hu Rongrong abruptly pushed Xia Chen away, who stared blankly at her. When he suddenly realized that the person standing in front of him was Hu Rongrong, not Luo Shimin, despair immediately filled his eyes.
"Xia Chen! Cheer up!" Hu Rongrong said with concern.
Seeing Hu Rongrong's concern, Xia Chen gave a wry smile.
"Hu Rongrong, Luo Shimin is still alive," Xia Chen said. Whenever Luo Shimin was mentioned, Xia Chen became a different person. His eyes were filled with anticipation, as if he could see Luo Shimin himself.
Hu Rongrong shook her head sadly and said painfully, "Xia Chen, didn't I tell you that it wasn't Luo Shimin? Didn't Senior Xiaorou also come back to life? But she took Luo Shimin away. It wasn't that Luo Shimin was resurrected, but that she was possessed by some kind of power. I think it's a zombie, that's right, it must be a zombie."
"You're talking nonsense!" Xia Chen suddenly shouted hoarsely, "She's still alive!"
Xia Chen looked pained, and Hu Rongrong couldn't help but feel sorry for him. Hu Rongrong placed her hand on Xia Chen's arm, looking at him with pity.
A breeze swept across the lake, ruffling Hu Rongrong's hair. Looking at Hu Rongrong in the wind, Xia Chen suddenly felt a sense of déjà vu. Many, many days ago, Luo Shimin had asked him by the lake, "When will summer come?" Now summer was approaching, but Luo Shimin was no longer there.
"Xia Chen, you actually know better than I do," Hu Rongrong said with pity.
Xia Chen shook his head, turning his gaze painfully to the lake. The wind blew across the lake, ruffling his hair and rippling the water like fish scales. This was Luo Shimin's spring; he had to see her again.
“Xia Chen, that’s not Luo Shimin. I think, I think she’s possessed by some kind of monster,” Hu Rongrong said.
Suddenly, Xia Chen's calm voice reached Hu Rongrong's ears.
“Rongrong, I know a way,” Xia Chen said.
Hu Rongrong's eyes widened immediately, and she asked in surprise, "What did you say?"
Xia Chen slowly turned his head, his cold eyes filled with composure.
"Raising corpses," Xia Chen said.
