Ghosts in Medical School Horror Files - Chapter 59

Chapter 59

Xia Chen didn't answer, simply letting Luo Shimin cry in his arms. He didn't hold her, nor did he offer any words of comfort, as if Luo Shimin were a complete stranger.

The dim candlelight trembled slightly, Luo Shimin's shoulders trembled as well, while Xia Chen's eyes were cold and sinister.

His eyes were cold, just like his heart.

His girlfriend was crying uncontrollably in his arms, but he acted as if nothing had happened. What a cold-blooded person!

Luo Shimin seemed to sense that something was wrong as well. Xia Chen was the one who cared about her the most. Not to mention that she was crying like this, even if she accidentally cut her hand, Xia Chen would immediately feel sorry for her and put her finger in his mouth.

What happened to Xia Chen?

Luo Shimin raised her head, looking at Xia Chen suspiciously. Suddenly, she remembered something and asked, "Xia Chen, what are you doing here?"

Under the dim, yellow candlelight, there was none of the romance that candlelight should bring to this eerie space. There was only gloom, only terror, and only the pervasive stench of decay.

Xia Chen gave Luo Shimin a cold glance, then suddenly a wicked smile curled at the corners of his lips. Luo Shimin was taken aback; this was so different from the Xia Chen she knew.

“You…” Luo Shimin couldn’t help but ask.

“I’ve come to take you to a good place,” Xia Chen said.

After saying that, Xia Chen nodded to Luo Shimin and said, "Come with me."

Luo Shimin hesitated for a moment, but still followed behind Xia Chen. Xia Chen held up a candle; in the pitch black, its yellowish light seemed as insignificant as the stars in the Liaoge sky.

Xia Chen led Luo Shimin into the room where she had just been frightened to tears. The candlelight could only illuminate a distance of two or three meters, and Luo Shimin could only see that the surrounding area was empty. Darkness, terrifying darkness, tightly enveloped the small candlelight, as if something might suddenly leap out at any moment.

Following behind Xia Chen, Luo Shimin instinctively grabbed one of his arms; she was afraid. She didn't know why, but she was afraid of this room. It was filled with an eerie, gloomy aura. This aura sent chills down her spine, as if the room was teeming with vengeful spirits, or as if the vengeful spirits trapped in the experimental building had all gathered in this empty room. They were lined up in two rows, staring at you with wide, lifeless eyes!

Luo Shimin was so frightened that she quickly closed her eyes. She choked out, "Xia Chen, let's leave here quickly, it's too scary. I'm scared."

Suddenly, Xia Chen turned around.

In the candlelight, Xia Chen suddenly gave Luo Shimin a sinister smile. Luo Shimin's heart skipped a beat; she felt that Xia Chen's smile was terrifying. For some reason, she felt that Xia Chen today was different from the Xia Chen of the past.

"What are you afraid of?" Xia Chen asked.

Luo Shimin said worriedly, "I think there's something ghostly here."

Immediately afterwards, Luo Shimin said, "I just saw something glowing green in the darkness. I wonder if it was a will-o'-the-wisp."

Xia Chen raised an eyebrow and pressed, "Green light?" Then, he immediately asked, "Is it this?" Suddenly, Xia Chen revealed his teeth. In the candlelight, Luo Shimin could only see a row of teeth radiating a fluorescent green light!

"Ah..." Luo Shimin exclaimed in surprise.

Xia Chen suddenly lunged at Luo Shimin, and with a "thud," the candle fell to the ground and went out completely, plunging the surroundings into deathly darkness.

In a panic, Luo Shimin ran aimlessly through the darkness, not knowing which direction to run in; her mind was blank.

Suddenly, Luo Shimin slipped, her body lurched forward, and she fell down the stairs. It seemed she landed on the stairs, sliding down with a "glug-glug" sound.

A sharp pain shot through her, and Luo Shimin, who had barely managed to stop rolling, gritted her teeth and sat up from the ground. Real pain coursed through her entire body, but Luo Shimin forced herself to keep from crying.

What just happened? Was that Xia Chen? No, it couldn't be Xia Chen. Xia Chen wouldn't hurt her!

Thinking of this, Luo Shimin suddenly shuddered. If this person wasn't Xia Chen, then who could it be?

Suddenly, a voice came from afar.

Do you love me?

Luo Shimin was taken aback. Who was asking her that question?

"Do you love me?" the voice asked again.

A faint light appeared ahead. Luo Shimin followed the light and suddenly saw a strange sight.

Cherry blossom petals fell like snowflakes. Beneath the cherry tree stood the mysterious young man, Xia Chen, a faint smile playing on his lips.

"Do you love me?" Xia Chen asked.

Luo Shimin blushed and said somewhat shyly, "I love you."

Suddenly, Xia Chen revealed a sinister smile. Then, Xia Chen transformed into a snake! Its body was terrifyingly long, and most disgustingly, it possessed a handsome face!

Before Luo Shimin could utter a cry of alarm, the thing pounced on her.

In the instant the pain shot through her, Luo Shimin suddenly remembered the story that circulated widely on campus. A girl heard her dead boyfriend ask in the middle of the night, "Do you love me?"

In that instant, Luo Shimin understood why Xia Chen said he heard someone ask Liao Chuan the words "I love you." It must be the vengeful spirit of that boy. Yes, she finally saw what Xiao Rou and Liao Chuan saw before they died.

Ye Cheng took Xia Chen back to the police station. Faced with all the evidence, the two tried to piece together a clue. Li Xiao collected many bizarre files, and Xia Chen reread the slug case, trying to find some clues.

However, the result was not ideal; the two searched for most of the night without finding a single clue.

Night had fallen, and the lights in the police station office emitted an eerie glow.

Xia Chen put down the pile of documents in his hand, suddenly looked up and said, "Let's go to the lab again. Maybe there will be some evidence there that we haven't found yet."

Well, what can I do? He's a policeman. If we have to trust the power of professionals, then let's go.

That very night, Xia Chen followed Ye Cheng back to Yishi Academy. The strange laboratory building stood before them, appearing even more eerie in the moonlight, as if emanating a ghostly aura.

The two entered the laboratory building together, and under Xia Chen's guidance, they soon appeared in the laboratory.

The lights were turned on, their white glow illuminating the laboratory's pristine white walls. The two men's shadows stretched long and thin as Xia Chen and Ye Cheng split up to search the room, which had already been thoroughly searched by the police, looking for any remaining clues.

Ye Cheng suddenly turned to Xia Chen and asked, "Don't you think something's wrong here?"

Xia Chen looked around and, apart from noticing that the house faced north, he didn't see anything wrong with it.

The room was spotless, with snow-white walls and a clean marble countertop—cleaner than most boys' dorm rooms. What's wrong here?

After observing for a while, Xia Chen asked, "What's wrong?"

Ye Cheng turned to look at Xia Chen and reassured him, "Don't be nervous, I just wanted to show you the newly discovered evidence!"

A strange smell rushed into my nostrils.

"You can smell it, can't you?" Ye Cheng asked.

“It smells awful,” Xia Chen said.

“It smells awful.” As he spoke, Ye Cheng raised his hand, and Xia Chen saw that Ye Cheng was holding a bag in his hand, which contained a piece of scale that looked like a fish scale.

"Is this what's emanating from?" Xia Chen asked.

Ye Cheng nodded and explained, "Yes, this stuff smells terrible. You know what? My apprentice, Li Xiao, made a major discovery today. She found out that these scales belong to a strange snake from ancient times. It is said that the Queen Mother of the West maintained her immortality by eating the flesh of this snake."

"So effective?" Xia Chen asked.

"Yeah, I think maybe eating this will even let you predict the future," Ye Cheng joked.

Suddenly, as if he had just thought of something, Xia Chen frantically rummaged through his bag. He emptied everything out of his bag like a madman.

"Hey! What are you doing?" Ye Cheng said unhappily.

"I'm looking for my diary!" Xia Chen replied hastily.

"Stop looking, don't alert them!" Ye Cheng said in a low voice.

Ignoring Ye Cheng's shouts, Xia Chen rummaged through Luo Shimin's pile of things until he finally found the notebook. Xia Chen was overjoyed.

Xia Chen immediately turned to the third page of the diary. By the light, Xia Chen saw: "This is a matter that is impossible to sort out. However, what I can still remember is that when Xia Chen saw this page, Luo Shimin had already been attacked."

Xia Chen's heart sank, and his hand loosened, causing the diary to fall to the ground. Just then, Ye Cheng suddenly shouted in his ear, "There's movement!"

A strange crying sound came out.

The laboratory lights suddenly went out with a "whoosh".

suddenly!

A hanging, green, strip-shaped object suddenly caught Cheng Ze's eye. It was entirely green, with a long, snake-like body, and a head that resembled that of an infant. No, it was more accurately described as an infant's head; its sharp gaze fixed on Xia Chen, a slight upturn at the corner of its mouth that seemed to be a smile!

"call"

The thing lunged at Xia Chen.

At that moment, a shadow blocked Xia Chen's way. Xia Chen tilted his head and saw that it was Ye Cheng.

Ye Cheng bent down, pressing one hand against the creature's head while quickly prying open its eyes with the other. Just then, the creature suddenly lunged forward, its head snapping into Ye Cheng's arm!

"Ah..." Ye Cheng screamed in agony.

Xia Chen immediately grabbed a knife and plunged it deep into the back of the creature's neck. With a "plop," the knife sank all the way in, and a stream of sticky green liquid spurted out.

Xia Chen panicked as Ye Cheng's hand was still being bitten.

"Quickly, hand me the knife!" Ye Cheng shouted.

Luo the Skinny quickly pulled out his knife, and Ye Cheng took it, smashing it hard against his own arm. A "crack" was heard, and turning his head, he saw that it wasn't Ye Cheng's arm that had been severed, but the monster's head. Instantly, the monster was reduced to just a head!

One of the monster's heads was like chewing gum, biting at Ye Cheng's arm like a keychain. Xia Chen almost vomited. Ye Cheng's face had already turned ashen, and he weakly said, "Quick, quick, get out of this house!"

"Are you alright?" Xia Chen asked, pointing to Ye Cheng's arm.

Ye Cheng stared at the human head dangling from his arm. He couldn't be sure if he'd been poisoned. What was this thing? Why did it have the head of an infant and the body of a snake?

How disgusting!

What kind of mutant creature is this?

Suddenly, in the quiet room, Ye Cheng and Xia Chen both heard a strange sound: "Drip...drip."

The two immediately exchanged a glance, then abruptly turned around.

The headless snake body suddenly floated into the air.

"Quick, let's go!" Ye Cheng shouted.

Xia Chen seemed rooted to the ground, staring intently at the air in mid-air.

A headless body, like a motherless child, waved its arms frantically, searching for its head. Ye Cheng turned around and immediately grabbed Xia Chen, pulling him out of the room. They both collapsed to the ground.

The two of them were panting heavily, looking at each other with lingering fear.

Ye Cheng shook his head with a wry smile and looked down at the head.

“I’ll probably end up like it!” he said.

Immediately afterward, Ye Cheng said sadly, "Heavens, how ugly would it be if my body turned into a snake?"

Suddenly standing up, Ye Cheng said indignantly, "Don't worry, I'll find a way to save you even if it kills me." Xia Chen had just finished speaking when Ye Cheng waved his hand.

"I'll take you to see a doctor first, we can discuss other things later." Xia Chen said, then dragged Ye Cheng away.

"We should..."
