Cronología de la muerte - Capítulo 70
He would bring all the December tour groups here and suggest they make a small donation to the school library. Even though the school doesn't officially celebrate Christmas, it's their duty to attract more tourists to Lanna and change foreigners' impressions of the country as part of the "Visit the Kingdom of Lanna" program. Two previous tour groups that Walter brought claimed it was a highlight of their trip, saying the visit deeply moved them.
As my friends waited on the pier, they had no idea that this humble celebration would be their Christmas surprise. They waited impatiently, wondering what awe or entertainment awaited them. But as usual, someone was late, and this time it was Rupert who was waiting.
“You should buy him a watch,” Vera sharply reminded Mo Fei.
"He has a watch!"
"Then let's buy one with a timer and alarm."
Mo Fei said impatiently, "His watch has two timers."
At this moment, Black Dot also disembarked, wanting to help Walter find the boy. The two walked in opposite directions, agreeing to return in fifteen minutes.
There are also vendors selling trinkets along the dock, where you can buy beautiful lacquerware and appreciate unique folk art.
Benny and the female vendor were engrossed in haggling, while Murphy, Wyatt, and Mr. Marseille smoked cigars on the dock, commenting that their taste was somewhere between cigarettes and marijuana. Esme was captivated by the gift her mother had bought her; she had also discovered a bag of braised turkey jerky that she could share with the dog.
Less than ten minutes later, they saw the crew member wearing a brown loincloth return with Rupert. The boy said he was performing card tricks for the locals.
“Didn’t I tell you that everyone should act collectively?” Mo Fei scolded his son. “You can’t just run off and do whatever you want.”
Rupert explained, "They begged me to perform for them."
Be honest!
Is he about to start that same old lecture about responsibility again: how rude and disrespectful it is to make eleven people wait for you?
“There are ten,” Rupert argued. “Berhari isn’t here.”
"And what about Walter?"
Someone reminded me. By the way, where did Walter go?
Fifteen minutes had passed, then half an hour, and he still hadn't returned.
As a result, the experienced boatman went looking for Walter again.
Five minutes later, he returned with a smile and quickly exchanged a few words with the black dot.
"Okay, don't worry."
Black Dot gestured for the tourists to board the boat, but didn't say where Walter was. He vaguely pointed across the lake: "We're going there."
“Hey,” Esme said, “he speaks English. Did you notice? He speaks English!”
No one paid attention to what the little girl was saying; they assumed everyone could speak a few words of English.
“What on earth is Walter doing?” Mr. Marseille exclaimed.
