Двойная увертюра - Глава 33

Глава 33

Xue Beifan reached out and took her hand, then stepped back. The two of them looked down at the ground and saw that what Xiao Dao had stepped on was not a snake, but a rope.

"A rope..." Xue Beifan had barely finished speaking when Xiao Dao pounced on him and pinned him to the ground.

At the same time, a "whoosh" was heard as more than a dozen wooden stakes crashed into the spot where the two had just been standing.

Xue Beifan looked up as the wooden stakes came crashing down from all directions. If Xiao Dao hadn't pushed him over, he would have been hit.

After the wooden stakes stopped, Xue Beifan tried to get up, but Xiao Dao shushed him and held him down.

Xue Beifan smiled as he looked at Xiao Dao, who was clinging to him, and said, "I'm not used to you being so proactive all of a sudden."

Xiao Dao pinched his ear, "You think I wanted to..."

Before he could finish speaking, with another "whoosh," a second wave of wooden stakes crashed into him.

Xue Beifan was surprised.

Xiao Dao rested his chin on his hand and poked his chest. "Never seen this before, have you? These kinds of traps are usually built twice, and maybe even a third time. That's called catching someone off guard!"

"How many times can it be done?" Xue Beifan put his hands under his head and looked at the knife. "What if it's done over and over again? Wouldn't that mean I'd be in bed for the rest of my life? I don't mind, but you know, men and women shouldn't touch each other. You've already taken advantage of me many times..."

"Dream on." After the round of wooden stakes was over, Xiaodao stood up, patted her skirt, and said, "There are traps in this forest, let's get out of here."

"Sigh, you haven't even taught me how to tell the difference a few times yet." Xue Beifan stood up and took a step, but felt a soft "click" under his foot.

Xiao Dao turned around and grabbed his sleeve. "Don't move!"

Xue Beifan stopped and looked at his feet. "What did I step on?"

Xiao Dao crouched down to take a look, then jumped up, "You jinx! You stepped into a line of arrows!"

"Arrow array?" Xue Beifan suddenly realized. "It's that kind of mechanism where a lot of arrows are shot out at once, turning people into porcupines?"

Xiao Dao was truly impressed by him; he still had the mind to joke around.

After cutting the ropes binding several wooden stakes and placing them next to Xue Beifan, Xiao Dao said seriously, "In a moment, when you let go, immediately lie down and roll into the mountain, hiding behind that thicker tree."

Xue Beifan nodded. "And what about you?"

Xiao Dao curled up the corners of his mouth, "Of course I'll go hide first. Do you think I'd die with you? Take care, Xue Er. If anything happens to you, I'll burn paper money for you, and a few pretty paper girls too."

Before Xiao Dao could finish speaking, Xue Beifan lifted his foot, exclaiming, "Oops, I accidentally lifted it."

"Heh..." Xiao Dao gasped. Hearing the sound of wind breaking, which was approaching rapidly from afar, he knew something was wrong.

She leaped to run away, but Xue Beifan grabbed her waist. "Heroine, take me with you."

"You, you're going to die!" Xiao Dao kicked him, thinking to himself that he must have owed his grandpa in his past life! The arrow formation was just around the corner.

Xue Beifan grinned mischievously, grabbed Xiao Dao, and rolled on the spot... A volley of arrows shot out from above.

The two rolled and rolled until they reached behind the big tree. After an unknown amount of time, the arrows finally stopped.

Xue Beifan held the knife in his arms, while the knife leaned against a tree. He stepped on Xue Beifan's foot and shouted, "Get away, you lecher!"

Xue Beifan peered outside and asked, "Could there be two waves?"

"Of course not." Xiao Dao pushed him away, leaned back to look, and saw that the whole tree had been shot into target material. Still shocked, she became angrier and angrier, and raised her hand to hit him, "You almost killed me."

Xue Beifan dodged twice, then grabbed her wrist. "You've hugged me, pounced on me, and even crawled into my bed. At least be birds of a feather, right? Why are you flying away first when disaster strikes?"

"Go to hell!" Xiao Dao pinched a bit of flesh on Xue Beifan's arm and twisted it hard...

Just as they were arguing loudly, a scream of "Ah!" came from the woods, a very pitiful cry.

Xue Beifan frowned slightly and looked into the woods.

Xiao Dao stamped his foot. "Could someone have been accidentally shot by the arrows while passing by?"

"Isn't the mountain closed off?"

"Let's go take a look." Xiao Dao ran inside, and Xue Beifan had no choice but to follow, marking the path with his dagger along the way. The mountain terrain was peculiar and easy to get lost in, and it was gradually getting dark...

After running a short distance, Xiao Dao stopped and looked around.

Xue Beifan tugged at her sleeve to keep her from running away, and asked, "Have you seen anyone?"

Xiao Dao shook his head, but pointed to his nose and asked, "Did you smell anything strange?"

"The smell of blood." Xue Beifan stood with his hands behind his back under a large tree, quietly discerning the direction. Finally, he stared at a clump of trees not far away. "An arrow shouldn't have been able to fly that far, right?"

Xiao Dao nodded.

Xue Beifan walked up to the bushes and frowned.

"What is that?" Xiao Dao peeked out and immediately looked puzzled. Behind the bushes lay a person, and a very unusual one at that—a wooden figure.

The wooden figure has a strange appearance. It is a woman with long hair, her hands crossed in front of her chest. Her face is carved very vividly, with willow-leaf eyebrows, squinting eyes, a high nose, and a thin mouth. Her face is oval-shaped. Although it is made of wood, it has a lot of charm.

The wooden figure lay quietly among the bushes, an iron arrow embedded in its chest. Upon closer inspection, one corner of the figure's mouth was slightly upturned, a half-smile playing on its lips. The iron arrow in its chest resembled the arrow trap that Xiao Dao and his companions had just encountered, except that arrow shouldn't have traveled that far. And most strangely—there was blood at the wound where the arrowhead had been.

Xue Beifan stared at the wooden figure for a long time, then suddenly kicked it. The wooden figure moved slightly and made a "crackling" sound.

Xiao Dao quickly pulled him back, "Why did you kick it?"

Xue Beifan shrugged. "Let's see if it was the one that was calling just now."
