Ази Хелл - Глава 55
I won't sit! Let me squat on the ground, I can't breathe because of tuberculosis.
Seeing how short and weak he was, Zhang Hongmei couldn't imagine how he could have climbed to the sixth-floor balcony to commit murder. Perhaps his current state was a result of psychological trauma?
Zhang Hongmei couldn't help but ask, "Why did you kill him?"
Didn't you report it? One article after another, didn't you say I was a perverted murderous demon? Qu Baoyuan's small eyes widened.
We are from the procuratorate, and we are here to listen to what you have to say. We don't read the newspapers, and they don't represent us.
real?
If it's not real, what are we doing here?
The interrogation went smoothly, and Qu Baoyuan confessed to the crimes in all four cases. However, he still did not reveal his motive.
As the interrogation was drawing to a close, Qu Baoyuan said, "Thank you for treating me this way. Can I make a request?"
"Tell us your requirements first, and we'll see what they are," Zhang Hongmei said.
I'm writing a letter to my daughter; could Prosecutor Zhang please forward it to her?
Seeing that the two prosecutors had nodded, Zhang Hongmei said, "No problem, we can definitely meet your request."
You can read my letter, you can use it to write whatever you want, but whatever you do, don't give it to the newspaper, and whatever you do, don't let the reporters see it.
Please rest assured that we will definitely meet your request. I will give it to your daughter, and I will not use it to write anything or tell anyone else. We will respect your privacy.
As expected, Qu Baoyuan handed a letter to Zhang Hongmei during the court hearing. Yang Ming, who had a keen eye, later found Zhang Hongmei and said, "Sister Zhang, I'd like to invite you to dinner."
Zhang Hongmei said, "I won't eat your food."
Why?
You're obligated to do what someone else does.
Sister Zhang, I don't want to read his letter. Can't you just tell me what he wrote?
No. Absolutely not.
You were just saying it, not saying it exactly...
Zhang Hongmei smiled and said, "I know you are a very good reporter who values professional ethics and your reporting is quite objective. However, as a prosecutor, I must unconditionally respect the privacy of the parties involved. Otherwise, I would also lack professional ethics."
Okay! I'm impressed by you, Sister Zhang! However, I still want to treat you to dinner, just for your perseverance and for our future cooperation.
Yang Ming was still very happy.
After hearing the case of Qu Baoyuan, the court held that the facts of the robbery charged by the public prosecutor against the defendant Qu Baoyuan were clear and the evidence was sufficient. With the intent to illegally possess property, the defendant Qu Baoyuan committed four robberies using violence and weapons within a little over a month, resulting in the deaths of two victims and infringing upon their property and personal rights. His actions constituted the crime of robbery, and the charge of robbery brought by the public prosecutor was established. However, the facts and legal basis for the public prosecutor's charge of murder against the defendant Qu Baoyuan were insufficient. Murder was merely a means of robbery and should not be a separate crime. Therefore, the court did not support the public prosecutor's charge of murder against the defendant Qu Baoyuan. Regarding the defense counsel's argument that "the defendant's first two crimes were attempted and could be punished more leniently according to law," this argument was found to be true and adopted. However, given the circumstances of this case, it was insufficient to warrant a lighter sentence. The defendant Qu Baoyuan's methods were particularly cruel, the consequences were particularly serious, and he committed the crime again within five years of completing his previous sentence, thus constituting a recidivist and should be severely punished according to law. Final verdict: Defendant Qu Baoyuan was found guilty of robbery and sentenced to death, deprived of political rights for life, and all his personal property was confiscated; the tools used in the crime, a hammer, a hood, and a pair of rubber shoes, were also confiscated.
Qu Baoyuan appealed the verdict.
After receiving Qu Baoyuan's appeal, the Provincial Higher People's Court "formed a collegial panel in accordance with the law, reviewed the case file, questioned the appellant, and listened to the opinions of the defense counsel. Finding the facts of the case clear, the court decided not to hold a trial." The final judgment was "the appeal is dismissed, and the original judgment is upheld."
The presiding prosecutor, Zhang Hongmei, told me, "He hurt women, and in the end, he died at the hands of a woman!" This beautiful prosecutor repeated it to me twice. Her words surprised me because I hadn't considered this possibility; but they also made me realize the strength and power of women.
The prosecutor in charge of Qu Baoyuan's case was a female prosecutor, the judge who presided over his trial was a female judge, and the judge who presided over the final trial was also a female judge. This can only be described as a coincidence. However, this purely accidental coincidence happened only once for Qu Baoyuan, and it was a once-in-a-lifetime event that would determine his life or death. In this light, it was not accidental but inevitable for him.
A person who dies without knowing they are going to die experiences no pain or fear. But is there anything more painful or terrifying than knowing you are going to die and waiting for it every day?
Qu Baoyuan was once proud that he had plunged the city into fear of death. Now, the people have been freed from the fear of death and are no longer afraid of his threats. However, he is tormenting his life in the despair and fear of waiting for death. He hears the gunshots that will send him to his death day and night. His soul has long been pierced and riddled with holes.
Rumor: A psychology experiment that was aborted midway
A report on a psychology experiment was published in the eighth issue of the German journal "Experiments in Psychology" in 1975. The original text was very long, so only the key points can be extracted.
Title: A Simulation Experiment on Role Assumption Shift and its Psychological Impact in a Prison Environment
Time: 1973
Experiment designer: Philip Zimbardo, Professor of Psychology at Stanford University
Experimental procedure:
First, recruit 20 male college students from universities. The applicants are clearly informed that they will participate in a simulation experiment of "prison life" for two weeks. They will be divided into two roles: guards and prisoners. Anyone with a history of heart disease or neurological disorders is required to withdraw.
Twenty qualified male college students were recruited and their roles were determined by drawing lots. Six drew "guards," and the other fourteen drew "prisoners." The experiment's organizer immediately announced their assigned tasks: the guards' task was to maintain order, security, and peace within the prison; the prisoners had to obey the guards' orders and not disobey them. Once they understood their roles, the six guards were immediately given uniforms, hats, badges, batons, and gloves, fully equipping them from head to toe. The guards then handcuffed the fourteen prisoners, took them all back to the so-called police station, filled out registration forms, and had their fingerprints taken. They were then blindfolded with black masks and driven into the basement.
In the basement, the prisoners, having removed their masks, were ordered by their guards to strip naked. Clearly unprepared, they were extremely resentful of the sudden order to undress, their self-esteem severely wounded. Some even expressed their anger on the spot. However, the guards had already brandished their batons, compelling them to obey. All the prisoners had no choice but to silently remove their clothes and were herded into a disinfection shower room, where they were sprayed from head to toe with a strange-smelling disinfectant. To their even greater surprise, when they emerged from the disinfection room, each had a small tag around their neck. The guards immediately announced that the number on the tag was their identification number; they were no longer allowed to use their names, only this number to identify themselves. Therefore, they must remember their number firmly, or they would face severe punishment.
Another prisoner protested and refused to be numbered, resulting in several guards forcing him to kneel on the ground for a long time.
The prisoners obeyed orders, donned hooded prison uniforms and shackles, and were led into cramped solitary confinement cells. Inside, besides an iron bed, there was nothing else. There were no blankets or pillows on the beds.
The six guards have been assigned to different roles, working in pairs and changing shifts every four hours. Of course, they all have very comfortable double rooms to rest in, fully equipped with all necessary amenities, including refrigerators, air conditioners, and televisions.
Observations revealed that on the first night, none of the 14 prisoners were able to sleep peacefully on their hard, bare iron beds. Almost all of them tossed and turned for the first half of the night, with some even uttering vicious curses. The guards, however, seemed to tolerate the prisoners' resistance and were still dutiful. Upon hearing their cries for help to relieve themselves, they would immediately rush over, open the cell door, lead them to the toilet, and unlock their handcuffs, without restricting their time for urination or defecation.
The prisoners slept better on the second night than on the first, and even better on the third. They were noticeably more compliant than at the beginning, and their mood was much lower, with everyone looking gloomy. However, the guards became increasingly reluctant to respond to their requests to relieve themselves at night. When annoyed by the prisoners' shouts, they would drag them out and beat them. Even if they were allowed to go to the toilet, they would not wait until the prisoners had finished before sending them back to their cells.
On the fourth day, the prisoners' emotions became volatile. Someone shouted in his cell, and the guard on duty immediately dragged him out, beat him with a baton, and made him do 50 push-ups in the corridor. If he was a little slow, the guard would kick his fingers.
The punished prisoner screamed loudly, and other prisoners heard him. Through a small window in his cell door, they saw him being tortured. Several prisoners protested loudly, and one even cursed the two guards as sons of bitches. Enraged, the guards put down the tortured prisoner and dragged the cursing prisoner into the corridor. They stripped him naked and ordered him to stand naked against the wall, with his heels, buttocks, back, and back of the head pressed against the wall, his arms raised high with the backs of his hands against the wall. He was not allowed to move at all; any slight movement was met with blows from their batons. In less than 30 minutes, the prisoner was drenched in sweat and trembling all over. He had no choice but to beg the guards to release him.
The guards were delighted and said they could release him, but he had to crawl back and forth in the corridor ten times on all fours, and he had to crawl like a dog and bark like a dog. The prisoner, who had been tortured to the point of collapse, immediately agreed to their demands. Although crawling would be a great humiliation, he could still endure it. He could not stand against the wall like that anymore.
All the prisoners in the cell went back to their beds; no one wanted to see him suffer inhuman humiliation again.
