Chapter 16

He only had thirty yuan left in his pocket. He didn't know what flavor Shen Moyu liked, so he deliberately chose the most expensive seafood rice bowl and only took one rice ball for himself. In the end, all he got in return was Shen Moyu's impatience.

Su Jinning felt a little wronged, looking at the boxed lunch on the table: "If you want to distance yourself from me, just say so. Using this kind of tactic really disgusts me."

Shen Moyu turned her face away, lost in thought.

He had intended to find a plausible excuse, but he never expected that it was precisely these words that made Su Jinning misunderstand that she disliked him.

In that instant, he seemed to recall something from the past, and his anger was tinged with a sense of grievance.

Shen Moyu hesitated, then lowered his head and rubbed his face.

Su Jinning put his hands in his pockets and sighed, "If you don't know how to say it, then don't say it. Stop rambling like a grown man. If you hate me, just say so, but don't mess with your food. If you're not eating..."

"I am allergic to seafood."

"..."

The atmosphere was tense for two seconds, and Shen Moyu looked puzzled: "So what I mean is: I can't eat this meal."

Su Jinning struggled for a moment, then: "Holy crap..."

What nonsense was he spouting just now?

What did he say to Shen Moyu?

"Then...you'll eat my glutinous rice ball..."

"Yours has chili peppers."

"..."

Is there a crack in the ground? If not, he can drill one himself.

Su Jinning turned her head away and dug her fingernails into her fingers, as if that could alleviate her mental trauma.

Shen Moyu shook his head and chuckled, then stepped forward and picked up the seafood bibimbap.

"Hey, if you're allergic, don't eat it." Su Jinning still didn't dare to look at his face.

"It's nothing." Shen Moyu picked it up and examined it for a while. "My mom likes to eat it."

"Well..." Su Jinning's lips twitched, "Thank you so much, Auntie..."

Su Jinning thought Shen Moyu wouldn't say anything more, but to her surprise, he stepped forward and patted her on the shoulder: "I've never been interested in things on the forum, and I don't need to distance myself from you because of this."

"Are you done talking?" Su Jinning crossed her arms.

"otherwise?"

"You're not going to scold me anymore?"

Shen Moyu was speechless.

"I'm just kidding you." Su Jinning scratched her head sheepishly. "I'm sorry for taking up your time."

Shen Moyu didn't say anything, just smiled softly, turned around and walked out the door.

"Hey!" Su Jinning quickly called out to him, pointing to Shen Moyu's pocket: "The school doctor said you haven't fully recovered yet, so you should keep some candy in your pocket. I went downstairs and bought some for you and put it in your pocket. Remember to eat it."

Shen Moyu indeed stopped in his tracks. Two beams of the afterglow pierced the corridor like two transparent golden ribbons, shimmering with specks of dust within, and fell upon Su Jinning. He waved to himself, "I'm leaving! See you tomorrow!"

Author's Note:

Some might think Ningzi is making a mountain out of a molehill. But his personality is inherently overly enthusiastic. When he considers someone a friend, and that person distances themselves due to external factors, he gets very upset and even more afraid of being disliked. Are there any of you here with a personality like Ningzi? (Gou Tou)

Good afternoon, remember to eat lunch properly.

Chapter 6 Trumpet

By six o'clock, the city had almost passed its peak hours, and the crowds were no longer so dense.

The bus had already run its last trip, so Shen Moyu had no choice but to jog home. Before she even reached the entrance of her residential compound, she spotted that familiar figure in the distance.

Shen Moyu clicked his tongue in annoyance and quickly walked to the woman's side, calling out, "Mom."

Seeing Shen Moyu panting, Xia Wei quickly patted his back and said with concern, "Why are you back so late? And why were you in such a hurry?"

Shen Moyu forced a smile. She hadn't caught her breath from running so fast, and her face was a little pale. "Something came up at school and I was delayed. It's okay, it's all taken care of."

"Oh, I see." Xia Wei nodded and gently patted his head. "I was wondering what had happened. Why wasn't he home so late, and I couldn't get through to his phone."

Shen Moyu touched the back of his neck guiltily: "I'm sorry, Mom, I didn't tell you in advance."

"What are you saying?" Xia Wei frowned slightly, then quickly smiled kindly. "Come upstairs for dinner now that you're back. Mom made something delicious for you today!"

Shen Moyu smiled and gently pushed Xia Wei's wheelchair inside: "Really? Then I'll have to eat more today."

The woman in the wheelchair is Shen Moyu's mother.

She is a simple, unpretentious, optimistic and cheerful woman. She is always smiling, and even though she is over forty, her appearance is still as beautiful as when she was young. When she smiles, she has dimples on her cheeks.

Now confined to a wheelchair, she stands in stark contrast to the dashing and proud woman she once was.

Since Xia Wei divorced because of her father's infidelity, Shen Moyu had never seen his mother looking beautiful in a floral dress and sun hat again. All he saw afterward was his mother in dirty work clothes, her face covered in dust and exhaustion.

His family had always been harmonious and happy, but this happiness was short-lived. The worst thing in his life happened on his ninth birthday.

His father brought home an auntie who was holding a little boy's hand.

His mother was arguing fiercely with them, and he hid behind the door, too afraid to come out, while his father's handsome face was also etched with sadness.

Later, the father led the little boy and the aunt out, slamming the door behind him. He didn't even glance at him before leaving.

The door slammed loudly, startling him and making his heart skip a beat; it was the first time he had ever felt uneasy.
