For some reason, he felt a hint of sadness in Su Jinning's words.
“I do want to take the exam.” Shen Moyu shrugged, as if his interest had been piqued, and continued, “I think my grades should be good enough.” He finished speaking with a smile that was both hopeful and confident.
"Really?" Bai Ming asked with interest.
"Yeah, but I just find taking the exam alone really boring." Shen Moyu's tone was light and straightforward. But she cast an inscrutable look at Su Jinning.
A nonsensical remark left Bai Ming momentarily stunned, but it made Su Jinning momentarily realize something.
In that instant, Su Jinning felt as if a sharp, long thorn had pierced her heart; it didn't hurt, but it drew blood.
"Huh... really?" Bai Ming found it unbelievable and couldn't understand what this little brat was talking about. How amazing was this academic genius that he could say such casual things?
There were many people in front of the milk tea shop. In the hot summer, everyone wanted to drink a refreshing and cool fruit tea to dispel the stuffy heat clinging to their bodies.
"There are too many people. You guys wait here, I'll go join the queue," Bai Ming said, looking at the long line with some annoyance.
Shen Moyu sighed, glanced at the time; it was already past eleven. He wondered if he would be able to finish watching the movie and hoped it would be over soon.
"Cough cough." Shen Moyu cleared his throat. Perhaps because he had been outside in the sun all afternoon, he suddenly felt thirsty and his mouth was very dry.
"What's wrong?" Su Jinning sat next to him and noticed his discomfort.
Hearing the sound, Shen Moyu turned around, quickly licked his dry lips, and covered it up with a hoarse voice: "It's nothing, my throat is just a little sore." After saying that, he swallowed and tried to relieve the dryness.
Su Jinning didn't say anything more, but suddenly got up and walked towards the milk tea shop.
Watching him leave, Shen Moyu didn't bother to wonder anymore and turned her head back to the street.
While he was lost in thought, Su Jinning suddenly sat down next to him again. Shen Moyu turned his head and saw that Su Jinning was holding a glass of ice water in her hand, and said gently, "Are you thirsty? Here, I asked the milk tea shop assistant for it."
Shen Moyu paused for a moment, looked at Su Jinning's charming smile as always, then at the glass of water covered in icy mist in his hand, and suddenly laughed: "Then thank you."
"Drink up, I think you must be thirsty." Su Jinning handed her the water.
After drinking a glass of ice water, the cool, moist water slid down my dry throat, like a flower that had been withered for a long time finally being watered, giving me a very satisfying feeling.
Shen Moyu drank half a glass, licked his lips, and his complexion improved considerably. He handed the glass back and asked curiously, "Why did you order ice water?"
Su Jinning took the water glass: "Just say I'm thirsty, simple as that~" After saying that, he gave her a wink. It was clearly standard procedure.
"Pfft." Shen Moyu chuckled helplessly. "Okay, this is an era that judges by appearance." He could imagine Su Jinning leaning on the bar, resting her chin on her hand, and giving the waiter a captivating smile. The moment the waiter was mesmerized, he would then say something irresponsible like, "Sister, I'm thirsty, could you get me a glass of ice water?"
That handsome man suddenly smiled so alluringly; anyone would be captivated. At that moment, he could have had an iceberg, let alone a glass of water.
Su Jinning stuck out his tongue and suddenly felt thirsty. He lowered his head, wiped the water droplets off the glass, and then tilted his head back to drink. As Shen Moyu turned his head to look elsewhere, he quickly turned the glass around so that his lips just met the spot where Shen Moyu had drunk.
Even though it was ice water, his cheeks flushed slightly. Even though it was ordinary water, he tasted a fleeting sweetness that lingered on his tongue before playfully sliding into his mouth.
"The juice is here. You two must have been waiting a long time." Bai Ming wiped the sweat from his chin and handed over two glasses of lemonade.
"Thank you." Su Jinning said thank you, handed one of the glasses to Shen Moyu, and then picked up her own glass and drank it.
In the summer, lying comfortably under the shade of a tree, sipping juice, and listening to a cheerful English song would be a very pleasant experience.
He smiled slightly and glanced at Shen Moyu. If Shen Moyu were there, sharing the headphones might make things more comfortable.
Shen Moyu looked at Su Jinning's smiling face and unconsciously smiled as well. He was a little curious about what Su Jinning was thinking when she stared blankly at one spot.
They sat there for an unknown amount of time, with Su Jinning and Bai Ming continuing their conversation about Fudan University with great interest.
Shen Moyu took a couple more sips of juice, then glanced at his watch casually; it was almost midnight. Seeing that Bai Ming was still there, chatting incessantly with the two of them about this and that, his eyes suddenly turned cold.
We've taken the photos, had the milk tea, and finished everything, so why aren't you leaving yet? Don't even mention wanting to stay and watch a movie together.
Shen Moyu frowned, then turned to Su Jinning and asked in a softer tone, "When are we going to see the movie?"
Su Jinning was startled and quickly stuffed his phone into his pocket. He said in a conciliatory tone, as if he had made a mistake and was afraid of being blamed, "It's my fault, you academic genius. Let's go, let's go." He said this in a hurry and grabbed Shen Moyu's arm.
"Ah, I'm sorry to have taken up your time." Bai Ming also got busy and quickly stood up.
"Then we'll be going now." Su Jinning pulled Shen Moyu forward and ran ahead, ignoring Bai Ming's apology. She said goodbye and ran off.
"Excuse me, sir, the action and adventure movies have already started showing at this time. If you would like to watch more, you can reserve the next slot from 2 to 4 pm." The waiter bowed slightly and explained in a friendly manner.
"Huh?" Su Jinning scratched her head in frustration, thought for a moment and asked, "Then, are there any movies left? At this hour?" After all, Shen Moyu had to go back to work at two o'clock, so he definitely wouldn't make it. If possible, he prayed to God to give him another chance.
The waiter glanced back at the screen, still smiling, and said, "We only have one 3D children's animated film, 'Frozen,' and one 2D campus romance film, 'The Best of Us,' left. Would you two like to consider them?"
Children's animation, campus romance.
"Damn it." Su Jinning lowered her head listlessly and then turned it away.
Does this guy have to be so ruthless?
Although Su Jinning didn't think much of romance movies, watching one with Shen Moyu still felt a bit strange. And were two grown men really watching a romance movie a completely healthy thing to do?
“Um… top student, how about we do Frozen?” Su Jinning blinked and looked at him seriously.
"Get lost." Shen Moyu wished he could smash his skull with a hammer and fix the broken string in him.
"Let's go with 'The Best of Us'," Shen Moyu said calmly, cracking his knuckles. He didn't care much about these things; what difference did it make what movie he watched? Besides, he wasn't interested in these kinds of romance movies.
In the end, the two people, who didn't seem to care about being embarrassed, still bought seats in the last row, wishing they could just crawl into a hole in the ground to watch.
There were quite a lot of people watching. The movie was supposed to start in ten minutes, but it was already packed with people. Apart from the boys who had been dragged there by their partners, the entire theater was filled with girls.
Only the two of them, sitting in the last row, became the only sight to behold in the corner.
They seem to have bought the right spots, but then again, they seem to have bought the wrong ones.
The group kept glancing back, then turning back to their girlfriends and boyfriends to talk. They were either discussing looks or talking about two grown men watching a romantic movie together. Besides that, some people tried to add them on WeChat, but they all declined.
That wasn't the most awkward part. The most awkward part was that the last girl who was turned away pulled a big round face and started chattering to her friend, "They look like they're gay. They're so pretty and don't seem interested in women at all, tsk tsk tsk."
"……"
The two of them were speechless for a moment, unsure of what to say next.
Is he fresh and beautiful, or does he look gay at first glance...?
The atmosphere instantly became awkward. The two of them lowered their heads and touched the tips of their noses, pretending not to have heard and looking at the big screen. Even though they weren't in that kind of relationship, their guilty expressions made it seem like they were subtly implying something.
As the surrounding lights dimmed and the movie began, the people in the theater finally stopped talking and looked at the big screen.
Su Jinning secretly breathed a sigh of relief and picked up the popcorn in her hand to eat.
Shen Moyu found a comfortable spot to lean back and calmly watched the movie, watching the scenes that made the people around her burst into laughter.
He hated these boring romance movies the most. No matter how good the story was, he couldn't get interested. He had just over two hours left before his work time, and he was going to be somewhere anyway, so watching a movie to kill time wasn't a bad idea.
