Blumen pflücken und lächeln - Kapitel 157
Galan's features weren't exactly beautiful, but she had a naturally baby face. At 1.6 meters tall, she wasn't short, but her small frame made her appear extremely thin, making her look like a seventeen or eighteen-year-old girl. This was especially true when standing next to the monstrously tall Wu Jing.
Yu Fei knew little about Wu Jing. The only information he could gather, both overt and covert, was that "he was once a very important figure in the underworld." He couldn't understand why Xu Lie would have such a conspicuous person like Wu Jing by Jia Lan's side. Was it for protection, or…? Yu Fei smiled faintly and shook his head—was it a warning?
Just as he was pondering, Galan roared angrily, "Xu Lie told you to go die, are you going or not?!"
"Go," Wu Jing replied, his face expressionless, his answer crisp and decisive.
Yufei coughed softly to hide his laughter, lest he be discovered.
At this moment, Galan was rolling her eyes, which was extremely ungraceful. Her small face was flushed, but she finally had no choice but to compromise: "Then you can protect me in the dark. Don't let me see you next to me."
"no."
"No?!" Garan roared incredulously, "I've already conceded, what else is there that you can't accept?!"
“Protecting her secretly is too far away,” Wu Jing replied in a flat, emotionless voice. “My abilities are not yet sufficient to guarantee the young mistress’s safety.”
Yufei almost burst out laughing, but for the sake of the good show to come, he decided to hold back. The current Galan was not someone to be trifled with.
As expected, Garan laughed in anger: "You really want to follow me every step of the way?"
"yes."
Her smile instantly became incredibly bright and cheerful: "Fine, you can come along then. Tonight I'll tell Xu Lie that you tried to harass me, spy on me, and assault me."
Wu Jing was taken aback and blurted out, "How could I?" After a pause, he added, "Young Master won't believe it."
Galan rested his chin on his hand, tilting his head back as he asked, "Are you sure?"
Seeing the surprise and uncertainty in his eyes, Galan laughed even harder: "If I go into the women's restroom and you go in too, what is that if not harassment? If I go into the fitting room and you go in too, what is that if not peeping? If I'm in a crowded supermarket and you're right next to me, what is that if not indecent assault?"
With each sentence, Wu Jing's perpetually poker face cracked a little more, until his entire face turned green, with veins bulging on his forehead. Yu Fei finally couldn't help but burst into laughter, attracting the attention of passersby and letting Jia Lan spot him.
At this moment, Yufei was standing in front of the huge outdoor TV screen in the shopping mall. The TV screen was filled with a dazzling array of flowers and bright lights, and the people on it were all dressed elegantly. But the focus of the screen was on a beautiful new face – Xia Yan's fiancée, Fan Yingying.
Yu Fei glanced at her briefly before looking away. She's so close to heaven now, isn't she? So soon, Fan Yingying, it's almost... time for you to fall into hell.
While he was thinking, Galan had already leaped in front of him in a few steps. Her gaze lingered on the screen for a moment before she immediately looked away, turning her head to look at him: "Is there anything that makes you so happy?"
Seeing her furrowed brows and tense jaw, Yufei quickly suppressed a laugh and asked seriously, "Why did you skip class again?"
Galan snorted and said angrily, "You have the nerve to say that? If you hadn't insisted that I switch to psychology, would I have been caught by that crazy and strict professor? I tremble all over whenever I see him in class now."
Yufei coughed softly, suppressing a laugh: "He's only being so strict with you because he thinks you have potential."
Even Yufei was baffled by Professor Liu, that authority on psychology. He couldn't understand where he got the idea that Jialan had such great potential to advance psychology. Not only did he insist on giving her extra tutoring after school every day, but he also required her to write a paper after each of his classes. Now, Jialan skips Professor Liu's classes and even takes her anger out on him.
"Yufei, tell me honestly, why did you insist on making me choose psychology as my major?"
Yufei paused, unsure how to answer, then seemed a little lost: "I was just thinking, maybe, it might come in handy..."
Will we really need to use it again? Yufei asked himself. Should the carefree, innocent Galan, who is smiling so simply now, really be allowed to use it again?
He shook his head, smoothed her stray hairs, and said softly, "If you don't want to study, that's fine. A finance degree is enough anyway. You two... are still different after all."
Long, slender fingers slid down her slightly curled yet smooth hair, landing on her shoulder, but before they could pull her close, they were stopped by a pair of dark, large hands.
Wu Jing looked at Yu Fei expressionlessly, his voice completely flat: "Mr. Nie, please keep your distance from my young mistress."
Galan and Yufei exchanged an incredulous glance, their lips twitching. "Wu Jing, besides having you protect me, what other orders did Xu Lie give you?"
With a poker face, Wu Jing spoke in a voice loud enough for everyone standing in front of the television screen to hear, word by word: "Protect the young mistress's chastity."
Silence, a deathly silence. Everyone turned around abruptly, looking at Yufei and the other two with ambiguous and strange gazes. Only the television continued to broadcast Yingying's tearful statement: "...I've thought that we might never be able to go back, but...I really love him..."
With his eyes blazing with fury, Galan pulled out his phone, dialed a number, and it was answered after only one ring.
"Hey, Galan, you..."
She took a deep breath, pretending her voice was a megaphone, and shouted, "Xu Lie, you bastard, die!!"
Two hours later.
"Hey Galan, you've really bought a lot of things. You should be calmed down by now, right?" Yufei's voice was both amused and helpless.
Hearing the sound, Galan turned around and saw that the big, wooden man was carrying a lot of things in both hands, and he was also holding a big box in his hands. He even had the pink scarf she bought around his neck. She couldn't help but burst out laughing.
Although Wu Jing tried his best to maintain his composure, his taut jaw, tightly pursed lips, and furrowed brows clearly revealed his helplessness and dissatisfaction.
Yu Fei was watching the two staring at each other with a smile when he suddenly froze, his gaze fixed intently on Jia Lan's slowly softening face. Her eyes were brimming with tears, staring blankly at Wu Jing not far away, unblinking, as if gazing deeply into his heart. But the lifeless pupils betrayed her dazedness and absent-mindedness. Then, unconsciously, she uttered two words, two names that struck his chest like hammer blows, yet he felt no pain.
Galan said to Wu Jing, "Yi Han, let's go back."
Wu Jing looked at Jialan and then at Yufei with some confusion. They were covered in things and had such strange expressions, which looked extremely odd. However, Yufei couldn't laugh at all. He couldn't even control his shock and keep it from showing on his face.
Galan also came to her senses, and looking at their surprised and confused expression, she asked blankly, "Yufei, what's wrong?"
Yufei pondered for a while, until even he himself grew impatient, before slowly asking, "Galan, do you remember what you just said?"
Galan rolled her eyes and said irritably, "I said let's go back. Yufei, I don't have Alzheimer's."
Yu Fei's delicate eyebrows furrowed slightly, his fair skin gleaming brilliantly in the sunlight: "And before that? Do you remember who you called?"
"Did I call anyone?" Galan paused, then opened his mouth slightly, his mind becoming dazed, and his pupils dilated with confusion. "Did I... call anyone...?"
The slightly hoarse voice and trembling lips made Yufei unable to look directly at him for a moment, so he gently turned his head away.
Garan's brows furrowed tightly, his gaze slowly shifting as he pondered and questioned, unconsciously yet intently lingering on the surrounding scenery. Suddenly, he abruptly stopped...
