Chapitre 77

Xi Jia took a few steps to the right, not daring to look into Mo Yushen's eyes, and pressed her forehead against his chest, then stretched out her paws to hug him.

Mo Yushen finally felt at ease in his heart and in his arms.

A safety incident occurred here, and the entire film crew gathered around, forming several layers, all stunned. What happened?

If you get frightened, can you try hugging your crush in different ways to find comfort?

The props team leader was also baffled. Fortunately, Xi Jia was the little princess of the Ji family. If it were any other woman, they would definitely think that she was taking the opportunity to climb the social ladder and throwing herself into their arms.

The props team leader had a good impression of Xi Jia; she was probably genuinely frightened just now.

He came to Xi Jia's rescue, saying, "You can all go back to what you were doing. The screenwriter was hit on the head by a wooden board, and he's probably not fully conscious right now."

I see.

Just then, someone shouted that Xi Jia was trapped under the wooden house.

They became even more convinced.

Mo Yushen said to Teacher Shang, "I'll have to trouble you at the film set this afternoon. I'll take screenwriter Xi to the hospital for a check-up."

Teacher Shang: "This is my job, so you all go quickly. You can't let things on your minds be delayed."

Mo Yushen left with Xi Jia.

Even after getting into the car, Xi Jia didn't dare to look at Mo Yushen.

Xi Jia didn't want to go to the hospital, saying she was fine.

Mo Yushen: "When you're filming, it might actually hit you on the head." And that pile of snow, when it hits you, it's quite heavy.

He wouldn't feel at ease without going to the hospital for a checkup.

"Really, you don't need to."

Mo Yushen remained silent.

The atmosphere was tense.

Xi Jia is now most afraid of going to the hospital, afraid that the doctor will tell her that her condition has worsened, and afraid that there will be other complications.

She refused to go to the hospital.

"On the first day of the Lunar New Year, there were hardly any doctors in the hospital."

Mo Yushen: "There are doctors on duty every day." He instructed the driver to start the car.

The driver asked, "Mr. Mo, which hospital are we going to?"

Mo Yushen rubbed his temples. Secretary Ding had told him the name of the hospital where Professor Xiang worked yesterday. His mind was still a mess after what Xi Jia had just done.

In recent years, Professor Xiang has basically stopped seeing patients. He will participate in complex surgeries, but he spends the rest of his time on research and development.

Many of the doctors in that department were Professor Xiang's students; doctors trained by Professor Xiang should be quite good as well.

After a moment of calm, Mo Yushen remembered which hospital it was and told the driver.

The driver drove the car away. Sensing a low air pressure inside, he lowered the partition, creating two separate spaces.

In the back of the car, it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

Xi Jia didn't know how to explain. Stepping out of the cabin, her memory shifted again. Mo Yushen was right in front of her, yet she couldn't recognize him.

This misalignment means her condition is about to worsen.

As for what kind of disease might develop, she couldn't guess.

Looking at her notes this morning, she saw that at the hotel in the mountains, she had a one-night stand with Mo Yushen, after which she developed hearing and balance problems.

Mo Yushen turned his head: "Back then, you didn't recognize me, you only recognized Zhou Mingqian?"

Xi Jia snapped out of her daze and shook her head. "My mind is blank. I don't recognize anyone."

Mo Yushen didn't know how to respond. He couldn't understand why she would run towards Zhou Mingqian when they were wearing the same clothes and were about the same height.

Silence fell over the car.

Xi Jia was still carrying a hot water bottle. She took it out and placed it on Mo Yushen's chest. "I only love my husband, Mo Yushen." Then she gently scratched his palm with her fingertips.

Mo Yushen wanted to be angry, but couldn't bear to. He clenched her fingers tightly in his palm. "I'm not angry."

Xi Jia felt the warmth emanating from his palm at her fingertips.

In this tender moment, Xi Jia wanted to hug Mo Yushen to comfort him. However, Mo Yushen asked in a seemingly casual but deep voice, "In your women's eyes, a man like Zhou Mingqian is more handsome than me, isn't he?"

Xi Jia: "..."

She almost burst out laughing.

He endured it all.

Two seconds later.

It still failed.

Chapter Forty-Six

The hospital was quite crowded on the first day of the Lunar New Year.

Mo Yushen first bought masks at a local pharmacy. He and Xi Jia both put them on. Most of the people who came to the hospital were in a hurry and looked anxious, so no one paid attention to them.

This was Mo Yushen's first time registering for a doctor's appointment in person, and he didn't know how to use the self-service registration system. Xi Jia was even less familiar with it. The two didn't have time to figure out the machine and went straight to the registration window.

The staff asked which department I wanted to see and which specialist I wanted to see.

Mo Yushen: "Does Director Xiang from the Department of Neurosurgery have any outpatient clinics today?" Actually, he didn't have high hopes.

The staff member nodded and registered him.

Mo Yushen handed over Xi Jia's identification documents.

Being on duty with Director Xiang was the only thing that made him happy today.

Nothing has gone smoothly since this morning. First thing this morning, he wore the same outfit as Zhou Mingqian. Then, Xi Jia hugged the wrong person. Later in the car, Xi Jia laughed the whole way because of who looked better. He was almost depressed.

The neurosurgery department is on the sixth floor. They went to take the elevator.

Xi Jia asked curiously, "Do you know Director Xiang?"

Mo Yushen: "I don't know him. I do know him."

That doctor must be quite famous; everyone knows him.

There were many people at the elevator entrance, so Xi Jia didn't say anything more and quietly followed Mo Yushen.

Mo Yushen grabbed Xi Jia's hand and pulled her closer to him, afraid that someone else might touch her.

I'm queuing up for Director Xiang's specialist appointment.

There are five people ahead of us.

Mo Yushen sat down in the waiting area. Xi Jia, curious about Director Xiang, went to look at the department's doctors' profiles hanging on the wall. The profile said Director Xiang was around fifty years old. Judging from the photo, he seemed like a very meticulous person.

Seeing that Xi Jia was staring at the wall, Mo Yushen got up and went over to her.

In Xi Jia's memory, the only person she knew with the surname Xiang was Xiang Luo. She casually remarked to Mo Yushen, "Are all people with the surname Xiang like this, with such big eyes? Xiang Luo is one too."

Mo Yushen stared at the photos on the wall, his brows furrowing slightly.

He messaged Secretary Ding: "[Inquire about what profession Professor Xiang's children work in.]"

Secretary Ding: [Okay, I'll ask right away.]

Soon, their number was called.

Mo Yushen briefly explained Xi Jia's situation to Director Xiang.

It was a rare opportunity to have Director Xiang on duty, so Mo Yushen took the initiative to request to have all the brain tests that could be done performed.

The doctor's visit takes two minutes, but the waiting time for the examination, X-rays, and other tests takes two hours.

During this time, Mo Yushen took Xi Jia out for a walk. The air was fresh outside.

The two walked hand in hand along the sidewalk, aimlessly.

Mo Yushen never imagined that one day he would be walking down the street hand in hand with a woman.

Xi Jia looked around and said, "I'm not familiar with this area."

It's not that she's unfamiliar with it, it's that she's forgotten.

Mo Yushen: "I'll take you somewhere."

"where?"

You'll know when you get there.

After passing through a narrow alley and walking for nearly a hundred meters, I turned left onto a not-so-wide road with few pedestrians and occasional cars passing by.

A thick layer of snow covered the roadside bushes.

The branches and twigs of the sycamore trees on both sides were glistening with moisture.

Xi Jia remembered this sycamore-lined path; she had walked it before. Since Mo Yushen also knew about it, they must have walked this path together.

Mo Yushen pointed ahead: "Turn the corner, walk a little further, and you'll reach Grandpa's house."

No wonder she knows this road well.

Mo Yushen had played here with Cheng Weimo and Jiang Qin since he was a child. More than twenty years have passed, the trees are now shady, and the walls are weathered.

Mo Yushen led Xi Jia forward, in the opposite direction from their grandparents' house.

Xi Jia suggested visiting her grandparents for the New Year. Judging from her notes, she hadn't visited them during the New Year either.

Mo Yushen made an excuse: "They might not be home." It was because he didn't want to go. His father and Mo Lian should be there on the first day of the lunar new year.

Xi Jia guessed that he didn't want to go, so she didn't force him.

Reaching the end of the sycamore-lined path and turning onto the main road, Xi Jia recognized where she was.

She pointed ahead, "After another intersection, there's a roasted sweet potato shop there, a popular one. Yangyang bought some roasted sweet potatoes at the club once and still misses them. Let's go check it out, I don't know if it's open today."

Mo Yushen also knew about that shop. He wanted to tell Xi Jia that it was definitely not open for business, as the shop owner's family was not short of money.
