Chapitre 78

Since I had nothing else to do, I decided to go for a walk with her.

I'm lucky, the roasted sweet potato shop is open today.

Xi Jiachao glanced into the shop. The shopkeeper was a young man with the same aura as Mo Yushen. He was dressed in a suit, so why was he selling sweet potatoes?

Mo Yushen stared at the person inside, speechless.

Xi Jia nudged Mo Yushen's arm. "Let's go in, I want to eat."

Mo Yushen: "This person doesn't know how to weigh things, doesn't understand electronic scales, and is just weighing things randomly."

Xi Jia turned her head to the side: "You know this boss?"

Mo Yushen hummed in agreement, then said, "Internet celebrity."

Xi Jia: "..." She was so ignorant; nowadays, even men can become internet celebrities. But with his looks and charisma, he's definitely at the top of the internet celebrity list.

Mo Yu went inside, and the automatic doorbell sensor said, "Welcome."

Mo Yushen was startled by the sound. He looked at the man at the cashier and said, "Couldn't you turn the doorbell down a bit?"

The man was keeping accounts, pressing the calculator, and raised his eyelids slightly. "The doorbell wasn't loud to begin with, but it got distorted because of the clothes you were wearing."

Xi Jia leaned close to Mo Yushen's ear and asked, "Do you know this internet celebrity?"

Because of Xi Jia's hearing loss, her whispers were no longer very quiet and reached the man's ears.

The man glanced at Mo Yushen.

This man isn't an internet celebrity; he's his friend.

Mo Yushen looked at his friend, "Didn't you say in the group chat this morning that you were going to work overtime? And here you are, working overtime?"

My friend put the calculator aside and said quietly, "You've ripped me off all my money. What am I supposed to do if I don't work overtime? Look at you, you have new clothes to wear, while I'm still wearing last year's clothes."

Mo Yushen was speechless.

Half of the funds Mo Yushen used to deal with Mo Lian and acquire shares in Mo Lian's privately owned companies came from this friend.

Mo Yushen introduced Xi Jia to his friend, telling her his friend's name.

Xi Jia greeted them and said to Mo Yushen, "You guys chat, I'm going to take a walk around the neighborhood."

Mo Yushen instructed, "Don't go too far."

Xi Jia nodded and left the store.

My friend put the ledger away. "Xi Jia's illness is much more serious than before. I can't even recognize her."

Mo Yushen: "Hmm."

A friend asked him, "If you're not on set, how do you have time to wander around?"

Mo Yushen: "I took Xi Jia to the hospital for a checkup. There were so many people getting X-rays, so I brought her out for a walk." He asked his friend, "How's your sister? How is she doing?"

Friend: "Not much better. About the same as Xi Jia."

In Beijing, there are two cases with the same condition as Xi Jia: one is Xi Jia herself, and the other is a friend's cousin.

The medicine Xi Jia is currently taking was developed by a laboratory invested in by her friend's family. It has significant side effects, but there has been no breakthrough in its research.

Mo Yushen: "I met with Professor Xiang today. If possible, cross-laboratory collaboration among the three of us will surely lead to breakthroughs."

Friend: "It's difficult. The professor won't agree easily."

Mo Yushen: "I'll think of another way."

His phone alarm went off; he had to rush back to get the film.

Mo Yushen pointed to the oven and said, "Pack me a few, pick the good ones."

His friend gave him a few roasted sweet potatoes, weighed them casually on an electronic scale, and said, "Two hundred."

Mo Yushen: "Why don't you just rob someone?" He picked up a roasted sweet potato and left.

Xi Jia was standing next to the shop entrance, with her back to the wind, stamping her feet back and forth to keep warm.

Mo Yushen came out of the store. "Why didn't you go shopping? Aren't you cold?"

Xi Jia was afraid he wouldn't be able to find her. She glanced at Mo Yushen's hand; he hadn't bought her any roasted sweet potatoes.

Mo Yushen patted the pocket of his down jacket. "Here it is."

He used such expensive clothes to store roasted sweet potatoes. Xi Jia said, "They'll smell like sweet potatoes in a minute. How am I supposed to wear them tomorrow?"

Mo Yushen planned to put the clothes away when he got back. He couldn't stand wearing the same clothes as Zhou Mingqian.

They returned the way they came.

Xi Jia talked about the sweet potato shop and the young owner, saying that nowadays few young people are willing to do these kinds of manual labor.

Mo Yushen: "You really think he's the shop owner?"

"otherwise?"

"Investment bank boss."

"..."

Mo Yushen: "This shop is owned by his father-in-law. He came to help out because he was bored."

My friend and his wife started dating in high school and later got married. His wife's family is just an ordinary family. His father-in-law used to be a driver and also sold sweet potatoes before opening this shop.

Xi Jia: "First love, transcending the difference in social status?"

Mo Yu nodded deeply.

Xi Jia linked arms with Mo Yushen, saying, "We're just like them; we got married to our first love."

Mo Yushen wasn't even sure if he was her first love. Since she said yes, then so be it.

Xi Jia put her hand in Mo Yushen's pocket. The freshly baked sweet potato was warm and cozy, and it was perfect for warming her palm.

Today, she and Mo Yushen had their most ordinary and down-to-earth day.

Every now and then, Xi Jia would look back at the shop.

We turned onto the sycamore-lined path, and the sweet potato shop was no longer in sight.

After taking a few steps, Xi Jia turned back.

Mo Yushen: "What are you looking at?"

Xi Jia shook her head. "It's nothing."

She wanted to take a few more glances at the path she and Mo Yushen had walked, hoping to remember this path, to remember this day, when the man beside her bought her roasted sweet potatoes.

Upon arriving at the hospital and obtaining the X-ray films, Mo Yushen took Xi Jia to see Director Xiang.

Director Xiang looked at the X-ray, his brow gradually furrowing. He turned to his intern assistant and said, "Take the patient in to look at the X-ray."

The intern assistant immediately understood that the doctor was about to discuss a condition that was not suitable for the patient to know. He got up, took the keys, and had Xi Jia follow him to the inner office.

Mo Yushen cooperated, "Can I come over?"

"Intern Assistant: 'Families, please stay away.'"

The intern assistant led Xi Jia to the office inside, and the door closed.

Director Xiang looked at Mo Yushen and asked, "What is your relationship with the patient?"

"My wife."

"Her situation is rather complicated."

Mo Yushen told Director Xiang about Xi Jia's condition, "She came for a check-up today because she was hit by a falling object, and we're worried it might worsen her condition."

Director Xiang continued watching the film, over and over again.

Mo Yushen waited patiently. He didn't know Director Xiang and didn't rashly introduce himself.

Director Xiang clicked the mouse with one hand while rubbing his chin with the base of his thumb and index finger of the other, his expression grave. "Your wife has a brain lesion, but we can't see any lesions." This is difficult; we don't know where to begin.

He pointed to a spot for Mo Yushen to see, "This area is pressing on the optic nerve. Her hearing probably isn't as good as before either, right?"

Mo Yushen: "Hmm." He spoke of Xi Jia's memories: "Her memories are strange; some are very vivid, while others are forgotten within hours. She also mistakes people for others."

Director Xiang said, "Brain memory has always been a scientific challenge." He didn't say much else. In his thirty years of medical practice, he had only encountered two such cases.

One is a girl from the Jiang family, and the other is Xi Jia.

Director Xiang didn't have a good treatment plan, so he suggested to Mo Yushen, "You can ask around. There's another case in Beijing. That patient's family owns a hospital, a pharmaceutical factory, and a laboratory. I heard they have medicine there that can temporarily control the condition."

It can only control the symptoms; as for its therapeutic effect, it's hard to say.

A short while later, the intern assistant and Xi Jia came out.

Director Xiang still had many patients waiting for their treatment, so Mo Yushen didn't linger and left with Xi Jia.

On the way back, Xi Jia started eating roasted sweet potatoes.

Mo Yushen took out the film to look at it, but he couldn't understand it either. Xi Jia was taking the medicine that Director Xiang had recommended. However, Xi Jia wasn't responding well to the medicine, and its effect was minimal.

Back in the studio, it was getting dark, and we hadn't finished work yet.

Everyone was concerned about Xi Jia's condition. Xi Jia waved the various CT scans in her hand, "It's nothing, just a mild concussion. I'll be fine after a few days of rest."

Yu An was extremely worried, fearing that Xi Jiazhen might hit her head on the wooden board, worsening her existing condition. She couldn't help Xi Jiazhen in any way, so she could only make her hot drinks every day.

"Sister Xi Jia."

This time it's not milk tea, it's fruit juice.

"Thanks."

Xi Jia looked relaxed, grabbed a juice, and went to the filming location outside.

As night falls, the resort becomes quiet and serene.

It sounded like a huge concert to Xi Jia's ears. She plugged in her headphones and turned the audio Mo Yushen had recorded for her up to full volume.

Mo Yushen did not go with Xi Jia. When Secretary Ding called, he found a secluded place to answer the call.

In one afternoon, Secretary Ding had already found out about Professor Xiang's children.

Professor Xiang has only one daughter, Xiang Luo, who is the same Xiang Luo from their film crew.

Mo Yushen watched the twilight descend and said, "Yes, I understand. Thank you for your hard work."
