Young Prime Minister, a Hermit - Chapter 17

Chapter 17

I was shocked and sat up straight from her embrace, asking, "Did Xue'er come to see Grandpa while I was unconscious?"

Mrs. Xu nodded, her delicate face showing anger: "You don't know that Grandpa was so angry with her that he fainted on the spot, and he was still calling your name before he went into the operating room. So Lie'er slapped her, and she ran away crying. A few days later, we heard that she went abroad. Alas! It was hard for Lie'er to be sad for several days."

I frowned, my right hand gripping my left wrist as I pondered silently. I'd met Meng Xue'er a few times; she was extremely gentle and quiet. How could she have inexplicably made Grandpa faint? What exactly happened back then?

“Lanlan, Lie’er and that woman are a thing of the past. Don’t forget, you are his wife now.” Mrs. Xu smoothed my hair and smiled. “If you really love him, you should fight for him.”

"Strive...fight?" I buried my face in the blankets shyly and said reproachfully, "What nonsense are you talking about, Aunt Xu?"

Xu's mother's hearty laughter reached her ears: "Lanlan, you really are a lovely child! Don't blame me for not reminding you, if you want to be Lie'er's real wife, you have to hang around in front of him every day and stick to him like a piece of chewing gum. Once he gets used to you sticking to him, he will naturally fall in love with you."

Cough cough, who would scheme against their own son like this? I covered my face and rushed into the bathroom to wash up, but Xu's mother's words kept echoing in my mind: "If you keep pestering me, I'll fall in love with you." Xu Lie, will you really fall in love with me?

Looking at my reflection in the mirror, my face was as red as an apple, or like a ripe tomato, and I cursed, "How embarrassing!" Then I couldn't help but laugh. Actually, having a crush on someone is quite a happy feeling.

Chapter 12 Unexpected Calamity

Chapter 12 Unexpected Calamity

I sat in the taxi, absentmindedly looking out the window, thinking about what Mr. Xu had just said to me.

“Galan, have you ever thought about going back to school to repeat your studies, or I could have Lie’er arrange a position for you at the company? In any case, the two years you were in a coma were something our Xu family owed you, and Father Xu wants to make up for those two years.”

Sigh—I sighed silently, thinking to myself: What can I do? Go back to school? What should I study? Finance again? Or, should I go help out at Mr. Xu's company? Ha, I'll just hope I don't make things worse.

The car stopped in front of the luxurious and imposing building of Xutian Group. I paid the fare, jumped out of the car, and walked along the fountain in front of the building's plaza toward the main entrance.

The early winter sun still carried a hint of warmth as it shone on me, as comforting as a cool, breezy embrace. I couldn't help but look up, squinting at the blue sky, when suddenly I was jolted by a powerful impact.

In the instant the shadow covered me, I only saw a black folder being flung rapidly toward the center of the fountain, the papers that hadn't been caught scattering everywhere, flying all over the place.

I instinctively reached out to grab the folder back, but my body leaned forward too far, and my fingertips only brushed the edge of the folder. Because of my loss of balance, I screamed and fell into the water.

Just at this critical moment, a pair of large hands caught my waist and held me firmly between their arms as I staggered.

I looked up in shock, and a strange face, with a half-smile and a half-anger, came into view.

He was a handsome man, around twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old, with his black hair neatly combed and dressed head to toe in designer brands. The combined price of all those items would probably be enough to buy a cheap house.

She has a thin, oval face and skin that's the trendy wheat color these days, but it always seems like it's been artificially enhanced. Her eyebrows and the corners of her eyes seem to carry a tired look, as if she's been indulging in too much sex or lacking exercise.

Her eyes, with slightly upturned corners and no visible wrinkles, were undeniably captivating. At that moment, they were fixed on me with a dangerous, angry smile.

"I...I'm sorry!" I quickly stepped back and bowed my head in apology. "I...I didn't mean to."

"Is an apology all you need?" He scoffed, grabbing my hand and refusing to let go. "Do you know how important these documents are?"

I looked up and saw his ashen face. My heart trembled for a moment, but then I realized that I was really in the wrong. I could only sigh resignedly, shake off his hand, and bravely step into the pool, splashing water everywhere.

"Hey, what are you doing?" the man behind me asked in surprise.

"Since it's an important document, and I'm the one who lost it, of course I have to retrieve it!"

"Even if we pick it up, what's the use if it gets wet?"

"We still have to pick them up first!" I picked up the papers from the water one by one, carefully spreading them in my palm, and said without turning my head, "It's better than doing nothing!"

When I climbed out of the pool, I was shivering from the cold, even my lips were white. I handed him the documents, trembling, and said, "You...you see how many...are usable..."

He took the documents and looked me over with a surprised expression, noticing my disheveled state. Suddenly, a strange smile appeared on his lips, and his dark eyes gleamed like sharp swords, or perhaps with the excitement of spotting prey, making me tremble involuntarily.

"Do you think that's enough?" He picked up the document casually, showing no sign of taking it seriously.

I felt annoyed, straightened my back, and said, "I think that's enough."

"You're quite an interesting woman." He looked me up and down again, then suddenly grabbed my wrist and said in a condescending tone, "Go wash up first. I don't like women who are so disheveled. Come to my room later."

"Huh?" I struggled while looking at him with a surprised and curious gaze.

He was taken aback, his gaze lingering on my eyes for a long time before he suddenly chuckled and said, "She really is a strange woman."

He waved the folder in his hand, a smug smile on his face: "Help me type these documents into the computer and reprint them, and I'll let you go."

Huh?! No way! I'm terrified of computers; I can't even type ten words a minute. Waaah, Xu Lie, please help me!

"One hour... and you typed this much?" He stared at the computer in disbelief, then looked at me, his lips twitching. This person's name is Shao Junyi, I just found out.

I lowered my head in shame and embarrassment, and stammered, "I really don't know how! Why don't you do it yourself?"

"No way!" he snapped, slamming the file on the table. "You can go home when you finish typing today!"

Waaah... I continued clumsily typing words into the table, making mistakes every now and then, deleting the entire table, and having to undo it, often having to start all over again.

Waaah, I'm so hungry! Waaah, my hands are so sore! Waaah, my eyes are so tired!

Suddenly, my pocket vibrated, and the standard ringtone of a telephone came through my ear. I frantically pulled out the phone and held it to my ear, but before I could speak, Xu Lie's furious voice came through.

"Where have you been so late, woman?"

Hearing Xu Lie's voice, despite its fury, I still felt extremely wronged and moved, and I sobbed for a long time but couldn't utter a single word.

"What's wrong?" Xu Lie's voice was tinged with anxiety. "Are you crying?"
