Young Prime Minister, a Hermit - Chapter 167

Chapter 167

I moistened my lips, which were red, swollen, and chapped from the wind, and my voice was hoarse and broken as I spoke: "So...ku...?" Yes! The man in front of me was Soku, the son of Debi, the patriarch of the Kamupite family, the royal family of Izumo Island.

His pupils suddenly contracted, and he looked at me with suspicion and uncertainty, a strong killing intent rising in his eyes.

I felt my body getting heavier and heavier, and I knew this was a sign that I was about to faint. I couldn't help but think, "Oh no!" If I fainted like this, he would definitely kill me as an assassin, and that would be such an unjust death.

I dug my nails into my palms, but unfortunately, the force was too weak, and the pain wasn't noticeable enough to bring me back to my senses. My mind raced, and I vaguely remembered their conversation down below. I steeled myself and decided to take a gamble.

So I gritted my teeth and spoke haltingly, "I am... Junior Sister Qin Luo..."

When I saw the look of shock and suspicion flash across those tea-gold eyes, my head lolled to the side and I fainted.

My body alternated between cold and heat, as if I were soaking in ice water or being fried in oil. In a daze, I could hear my teeth chattering and my heavy breathing. My consciousness drifted aimlessly, through two lifetimes, yet it passed by like a fleeting moment, unable to find a place to return to, yet everywhere felt like home…

It was also a snowy season; the sky was a heavy, overcast gray, yet at night it shone as brightly as day. It was my first time leading troops into battle, and I was only fifteen years old. We had been locked in a stalemate with the rebels for over ten days, but the opportunity I awaited was still nowhere in sight. Morale was wavering, supplies were running low, and the 100,000-strong Golden Radiance Army was like camels already overloaded, ready to be crushed by a single straw.

However, I fell ill at that time. I could see my pale face and unusually red cheeks in the glass mirror. I dared not and could not summon the accompanying army doctor to take my pulse, nor could I show any weakness in front of the soldiers who were already filled with fear. So I could only take the stimulant medicine that Yunyan gave me during the day, and at night I would wrap myself in the quilt and cough desperately as if I wanted to cough up my lungs.

On the third night, I was curled up in bed, coughing and shivering. In my hazy state, I felt someone walk up to me and pull the blanket off my head.

I saw a pair of eyes as black as the night sky. His indifferent face, which should have been expressionless, was now filled with an incomprehensible sense of loss and helplessness. It was Feng Yihan, the man who had followed me for two years, faithfully fulfilling his duty as a guard, yet who had somehow created a chasm between himself and everyone else. I forced a general's composure and reprimanded him in a hoarse voice for entering without permission.

He seemed not to hear me, only staring at me intently, his brow furrowed with an incomprehensible melancholy, tinged with a bewildered sense of being shaken. He slowly reached out, his cool fingers touching my burning forehead, and whispered, "How many days can you hold on like this? How many more days can you endure this bravado? Until you die?"

This was the first time Yi Han had used so many questions when speaking to me. Before today, I had always thought Feng Yi Han was a master without curiosity, cold and indifferent like a puppet. He faithfully stayed by my side like a bodyguard, protecting me, but never cared about my joys and sorrows, nor did he interfere with my decisions.

This was the first time he had asked me such a question, and I even thought it would be the only time. So, I smiled, almost flattered, thanked him for his concern, and repeatedly assured him that I was really fine. I was flattered because of our distance, and I smiled and thanked him because I had always treated him as an outsider.

Yi Han's expression was strange; he seemed stunned for a long time, his eyes flashing with various lights before becoming as deep as a black hole, with a hint of annoyance and anger between his brows. He helped me up, and before I could ask, his hands were on my back. It felt like an electric current slicing through me, a warm sensation instantly coursing through my back. I quickly gritted my teeth, almost groaning from the sudden comfort.

Just as my bones felt weak and I was about to drift off to sleep, Yi Han's cool and aloof voice, which sounded different from usual, reached my ears: "Two years is enough time to get to know someone, and enough time to understand your own heart."

He paused, then his voice became deep and resolute, like a rock: "My lord, from this day forward I will protect you and take care of you at all costs. I swear to be loyal to you with all my heart, even unto death. If I break this oath, may I be struck down by heaven and earth."

I can't describe the shock I felt at that moment; I just turned around and stared at him blankly. My blurry eyes couldn't make out his strong features or his perfectly shaped jawline, but I did see a fleeting glimpse of dark green in his eyes.

The world spun around me, and the scorching heat hit me so hard that I had to cover my face with my sleeve. When I finally managed to open my eyes, I found myself in the middle of a desert. The endless yellow sand stretched as far as the eye could see, with no end in sight, spreading out before me with its familiar vastness and desolation.

Yi Han was still sitting opposite me, his icy palms still pressed against my back. There was a hideous wound on his wrist, from which blood dripped and fell into the yellow sand, disappearing without a trace. A faint smile appeared on his lips, but there was a lingering sadness in his eyes. He said, "Young Master, I will protect you forever."

I opened my mouth to speak, but the overwhelming smell of blood made me cough uncontrollably. Yi Han's smile, however, grew even more intense, carrying a sinister beauty: "Forever will outlive your life by one day..."

I screamed, a wave of fear washing over me. Then I saw Yi Han's chest being torn apart by two invisible hands, slowly splitting open. Bright red blood, with its pungent, metallic smell, poured onto my face, and a chill swept over me, enveloping my entire body.
