Young Prime Minister, a Hermit - Chapter 78

Chapter 78

Liu Cenfeng chuckled deeply, not pressing closer, but instead placing his hand on my shoulder, weighing half his weight on me, and said, "Romance novels? Isn't that what you used to love reading in your spare time?"

I twitched my lips and pushed him as I walked, saying, "Hey! You're so heavy! You're not an old man, why are you hanging on me like that!"

"I'm no different from an old man now," Liu Cenfeng said with a smile. "How could someone who's lived for almost forty years not get old?"

I was taken aback, looked up at his half-smiling face and slightly narrowed eyes, and suddenly asked, "Yufei, do you want to go back?"

“Go back?!” Liu Cenfeng sneered. “How can we go back? More than twenty years have passed. Not only have things changed, but the corpses have long since decomposed.”

“No!” I cried out, grabbing his sleeve. “Your body is still there, really. Only two years have passed in that world.”

Liu Cenfeng was taken aback, lowered his eyes to look at me, his gaze unfathomable: "Lanlan, how do you know about that world?"

Just as I was about to speak, a flash of light appeared before my eyes. Long, almost translucent, jet-black hair swayed in the breeze. I saw Zimo's frozen expression, his slightly sorrowful, icy eyes. Something unspoken lingered in that translucent brown light, enveloping him in a chilling, desolate aura. I trembled slightly, not from fear or anger, but from heartache—a cold, bone-chilling heartache. My voice trembled, and I couldn't even speak clearly: "Zimo, what's wrong?"

Zi Mo sighed, his double-voiced tone losing its usual magnetism, sounding only as cold as icy winter water: "Don't tell the truth."

"Why?" I looked at him in surprise. "He's from the modern world too, doesn't he have the right to know?"

Zi Mo's lips curled slightly, his eyes icy cold: "Do as you please."

A surge of anger welled up inside me. You tell me not to speak? I'll speak anyway! But my gaze caught the desolation and pain hidden beneath the coldness in Zi Mo's eyes, and my mind was filled with images of the black-clad men falling and the scene of black hair intertwined with silver hair and crimson in the desert. I took a deep breath, took Liu Cenfeng's hand, and said as we walked, "Because I only came to this world a year ago! Before I transmigrated, I saw you unconscious in the hospital. You were much thinner, but you weren't dead. Your mother has been taking care of you."

"Like a vegetable?" Upon hearing the word "mother," his expression visibly froze, a sense of bewilderment, as if he had been transported to another world, flickered in his light blue eyes. But it was only for a moment before a question arose in his eyes. "Is my family financially capable of covering my medical expenses?"

I paused, a vague pain shooting through my chest. I tried to force a nonchalant smile, but seeing Liu Cenfeng's expression, I knew I hadn't succeeded. I heard that familiar yet unfamiliar voice softly say, "It was Xu Lie... who paid."

"Is that so?" Liu Cenfeng's smile was ethereal and unreal, empty and cold. "Then it's better to let him die."

Chapter 53: A Long-Awaited Reunion (End)

I still don't have time to write the side story... I'm going to hide away and repent. I'll try to work on it on Saturday, hoping for some inspiration to help me write it. *crawling away*

Chapter 55 Heartwarming

Chapter 55 Heartwarming

After strolling around Qinghefang, we went to Dongmen Quhe Street to eat some exquisite pastries, and then changed our clothes at Anxiang Pavilion. By the time we returned to Chiyu Tower, it was already getting dark.

I spotted the figure in blue standing at the doorway immediately. He held the Azure Frost Sword in his hand, leaning against the stone lion by the entrance. His long, soft, ink-black hair clung to the cold stone carvings, giving him an air of aloofness. Silver strands of hair on his forehead fluttered gently in the wind, brushing against his cold, gaunt face and his eyes, as dark as an autumn night.

"Yihan!" I shrunk my folding fan and rushed to him. His cold and aloof aura could be clearly felt from several feet away. I grabbed his hand holding the sword, the icy chill seeping into my skin, making me shiver involuntarily, but my eyes welled up with tears: "Yihan, were you waiting for me?"

He looked up at Liu Cenfeng behind me, took my hand, and his palm, which had been cold, warmed up: "Madam has been waiting for you for a long time."

I shivered for no reason and quickly turned around, saying, "Yufei, come in and sit down." Just as I was about to go over, I suddenly felt my hand tighten. The hand that was holding me went from warm to burning hot, and then instantly returned to its original temperature.

Liu Cenfeng shook his head. Although his smile and voice carried a subtle allure beneath the ordinary mask, "It would be too inconvenient, so let's forget about it. We will both be traveling to the Water Mist Kingdom as envoys in three days. We can meet again at Yunting (the capital of Water Mist)."

I watched him turn and leave, deliberately avoiding the pale white brocade robes that shimmered like iridescent gold and purple under the setting sun, enveloping his slender figure as if he were about to fly away on the wind. "Yufei!" I blurted out his name, but a deep emptiness still lingered in my heart.

He turned to look at me, his light blue eyes almost transparent, reflecting the bright red of the setting sun.

All my strength seemed to have been drained away in an instant. Even though the person in front of me was Yufei, all I saw was an empty shell bearing the name Yufei. My heart grew colder and colder. I forced a smile and said, "See you at Yunting, don't be late."

"Silly girl." Liu Cenfeng chuckled, waving at me without turning back as she walked away, "Alright! See you there."

I broke Yunyan's heart. From the mist that clouded her dark green eyes, from her cold tone as she said, "He's your friend, so we're irrelevant, right?" and from her stiff back as she turned and left, I knew Yunyan was heartbroken, just like Qin Gui who witnessed my intimacy with Liu Cenfeng in the main hall that day.

Liu Sha is not only my subordinate, but also Yi Han's disciple, our family. They are all orphans, came from the same school, grew up practicing martial arts together, and their bond is closer than that of blood brothers. No one is not saddened or resentful by Qin Ye's death, yet I, the master they serve, am on friendly terms with the murderer who killed him.

Before closing the door, Yun Yan said calmly, "As you wish, I will never interfere in your affairs again."

I looked at the empty room, the cold moonlight streaming in, and felt only loneliness. I slumped into a chair, covering my burning eyes with my sleeve, but I couldn't stop the hot tears from soaking my clothes.

The door creaked open, letting in the desolation of the night. I said in a hoarse voice, "Yihan, Yunyan doesn't care about me anymore, what should I do?"

Tears flowed even more fiercely, almost making me sob: "I also want to avenge Qin Ye, and I also hate Liu Cenfeng for making us almost die. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have had those painful experiences. But he's not Liu Cenfeng, he's Yufei! He's my most important friend, Yufei who risked his life for me... Same body, different soul, how can I tell Yunyan?"

"If you don't know how to say it, can you just not say it?" A clear, slightly hoarse voice rang out from above. I abruptly dropped the sleeve covering my face, and looked at that stunningly beautiful face with tears streaming down my face.

"You idiot!" Yunyan squatted down, rested her head on my feet, and tears slid down, soaking the hem of my clothes. "Luckily, I remembered how stubborn you are, and luckily I looked back. Linyu, is there anything we can't say to each other? No matter what you say, no matter how bizarre your explanation is, I will always believe you."

"Do you think I'd believe such a childish lie? Lin Jialan, you're ruthless..." Xu Lie's fierce and cold voice seemed to be right next to my ears, and his expression of disgust and hatred seemed to be right in front of me.

Why is it that some people believe my bizarre words unconditionally, while others dismiss them as childish lies? Xu Lie, oh Xu Lie! In terms of our relationship, Yunyan is my wife in name only, and you are my true husband, yet your heart towards me is less than one ten-thousandth of hers. You have never truly believed me, nor have you ever treated me as a wife who would weather any storm with you. Perhaps even that tiny bit of love was merely a fleeting interest. I held Yunyan tightly, trembling all over, my hands and feet ice-cold, the high walls I had built in my heart slowly crumbling. If that's how it is, why should I continue to think about him? If that's how it is, why should I continue to grieve for him? If that's how it is, I should live for those who love and protect me, not wallow in sorrow.

Yunyan cried herself to sleep, and I gently helped her to rest on the short couch, but I couldn't sleep at all. I pushed open the door, and fresh air rushed in. I took a few deep breaths. In the pitch-black night, only the lanterns swayed forlornly in the wind.

Turning my head, I noticed that the light was still on in Yihan's room, casting a faint, dim glow that revealed a blurry figure. Before I could react, I had already knocked on his door.

In the blink of an eye, the door opened, and Yi Han looked at me with slight surprise, asking, "It's so late at night, young master, aren't you asleep yet?"

"And what about you?" My eyes were still a little dry, and I wondered if he could see the redness and swelling. I slipped under his arm and laughed, "What are you doing still up so late?"

The door closed softly behind me. I looked in surprise at the map spread out on the table, which clearly read "Shuiwu Yunting." My heart warmed with mixed feelings. Before I could turn around, he had already gently embraced me from behind, wrapping me in his arms.

I looked up at him, my reflection etched in his dark eyes. I whispered, "Yihan, are you angry with me?"

He slowly released my hand, and I turned around to look at him, saying, "Liu Cenfeng once harmed Qin Ye, killed more than a dozen members of the Night Clan, caused you and me to be trapped in the desert and barely escape with our lives, and almost caused you to lose all your martial arts skills. Now that I'm so close to him, are you angry?"

Yi Han looked at me quietly, his dark eyes as cold and distant as a starless night sky. He said calmly, "Young Master, do whatever you want. You don't need my permission or to consider my feelings. Just be careful about your own safety."
