Chapter 2 A Family of Three (Part 1)

Chapter 2 A Family of Three (Part 1)

I entered a small, elegant room, a dozen square meters smaller than the others. This room had originally been the boudoir of one of the most favored concubines of the garrison commander of Shangyong. From here, one could see the Mirror Lake outside the city, and it was warm in winter and cool in summer—a truly comfortable place. To me, this room, far from the sight of the other wives and concubines, seemed more like a secret haven for keeping a mistress hidden away.

Strictly speaking, I am currently... cough... also using it for that purpose. The door was ajar, and even without pushing it open, one could feel the oppressive and stifling atmosphere inside. The maid guarding the door didn't dare to breathe. Upon seeing me, a sudden, joyful, pleading light flashed in her eyes, flickering vividly.

I pushed open the door and waved my hand decisively, saying, "Get out, all of you."

Everyone left in a flash, without a trace of regret. I couldn't help but sigh inwardly, thinking, "He's an exceptionally handsome man, why should we avoid him like the plague?" But when I turned around and met those dark, captivating eyes, even deeper and more beautiful than his previous azure ones, I immediately understood their feelings.

The man sitting on the edge of the bed was around twenty-five years old, wearing a thin nightgown, his head obediently lowered. He had soft, smooth black hair, slightly disheveled and draped over his back, which, in the sunlight streaming through the window, resembled fine silk being unfurled—dark, lustrous, and soft. He had a slightly thin and wiry face, with exquisitely beautiful features perfectly combined on flawless, fair skin, giving the impression that he didn't belong to this world. Most striking were his slightly moist, dark eyes, whose long, thick eyelashes seemed to tremble with a radiant light. But his most striking feature was his nose, high and straight, with a curve so perfect it was breathtaking.

To calmly face the sorrowful and lonely face of such a stunningly beautiful man is already something most people cannot bear. Moreover, the suffocating oppressive aura he unconsciously exuded in the room made it no wonder the maids panicked and wanted to escape.

I sighed, took a few steps forward, and sat down beside him, saying softly, "Are you hungry? Shall I have someone prepare some snacks for you?"

The man beside me still had his head down, his long black hair slightly disheveled. I reached out and straightened it, feeling his back stiffen slightly. I couldn't help but sigh inwardly: This kid is going to sulk with me again.

She reached for the clothes neatly folded beside the bed: "You're easily chilled when you first get up, sweetie, put your clothes on." While feeling like she was turning into a nagging nanny, she still helplessly grabbed his hand and put it into her sleeve.

He still had a stern face, but he finally obediently let me put his inner garment on him. I then took a wooden comb and combed his hair, tied it simply behind his back with a thin black rope that wouldn't pull on his hair, before putting his loose outer garment on him.

With his hair tied up, his entire face was revealed. The gloom from before was gone, but his face was still tense, his cheeks slightly puffed out, and he wouldn't look at me.

I couldn't help but chuckle and poked his smooth, fair cheek, asking, "What's wrong? Why are you angry with me as soon as we got up?"

He looked up at me with a deep, unsettling gaze, an expression that even I found almost unbearable. Then, his voice, as soft as a feather, pierced the heart: "Yu, do you not want me anymore?"

I paused for a moment, then moved my chair and sat down in front of him, asking, "Why do you say that?"

He turned his head away, as if trying to hold back something: "They said that Feifei is a burden and will drag Yu down, so she must be abandoned... and then Yu said... okay."

I was startled, almost furious: "Who's talking nonsense in front of you?"

He seemed startled by my anger, his long eyelashes trembling slightly: "What you're saying... I dreamt about it."

I stood there in a daze for a full ten seconds before giving him a hard knock on the forehead, saying with a mix of exasperation and amusement, "Idiot, dreams and reality are opposites! If you dreamt that I don't want you anymore, it means I won't abandon you."

He, who had been frowning and covering his forehead, suddenly looked up. Although he tried to maintain a cool demeanor, he couldn't hide the joy in his eyes: "Really?"

"Really." I smiled and touched his forehead, which I had slapped red. "Yu will never abandon Feifei."

He seemed relieved at that moment, and gave me a captivating smile: "Yu, I'm hungry."

I'm truly defeated by him. I never thought Yufei would be such a troublesome kid. Did he transform into Liu Cenfeng and develop such a strange personality? Yes, you heard right, he is Liu Cenfeng.

After falling off the cliff that day, Yi Han used his last breath to pull me to land before falling unconscious. When he woke up after his body automatically recovered, he found a corpse on the riverbank... well, a body, that was the unconscious Liu Cenfeng.

We hurriedly found the best local doctor to treat us. Although Yihan and I were seriously injured, at least our lives were not in danger. Liu Cenfeng, however, was diagnosed with an unknown cause of unconsciousness, and his life hung by a thread. Later, after the Jin Yao Huo Ling wedding, we took the unconscious Liu Cenfeng back to Jin Yao Kingdom to have Yun Yan treat him.

Yunyan's medical skills were naturally far superior to those of ordinary doctors. With just a casual glance, she said that he had been poisoned by multiple types of poisons. Although they had all been cured, they had not been completely eliminated. Lingering traces of poison remained in his body, gradually infiltrating his heart and meridians. Originally, he was only fit to live for a year. However, the force of the fall off the cliff and the impact of the waterfall dispersed the true energy in his body, which also dispersed some of the toxins that were originally trapped in his chest, spreading them to various parts of his body, especially his head, which is why he fell into a coma.

Yun Yan readily agreed to save him, but it sent chills down my spine. If you'd seen the expression on Yun Yan's face when she looked at Liu Cenfeng, you'd know I wasn't exaggerating. Sure enough, compared to my comfortable and leisurely recovery, Liu Cenfeng, in his coma, was living a life that was utterly inhuman.

Yunyan recklessly fed him all sorts of medicines with uncertain effects, treating him like a living dead being tested on drugs. The extent of his suffering was evident from the fact that on the first day, Liu Cenfeng had fair skin, on the second day his skin turned black, and on the third day it became purple.

In the later stages of treatment, Yunyan's skills in using and detoxifying poisons improved by leaps and bounds. Liu Cenfeng's skin not only did not change color, but became increasingly translucent. However, he would often be poked into a hedgehog or covered in rubber.

So, three months later, Liu Cenfeng, who was even more beautiful than before thanks to the medication, finally opened his eyes for the first time. When he opened his eyes, the sunlight was just right. He was lying on a recliner, and I was sitting next to him, poking his flawless skin. So, by sheer bad luck, the first thing he saw was me.

Next update: January 8th, possibly in the early morning.

Honestly, I'm completely shocked by your guesses! A child? A girl turning into a boy? A boy turning into a girl? My God, my imagination can't even begin to grasp that. So, what are your thoughts on the results? Please leave a comment, thank you! ^_^

Author's Note:

Um... I'd like to say two things...

First, the saying "past lives are the foundation of this life" doesn't just refer to Xu Lie and Yi Han; it partly refers to Lin Yu and Jia Lan. As for the other half, we'll discuss that later.

Secondly, this happened two years later, so there are many things I will be recounting in reverse chronological order...

Chapter 2 A Family of Three (Part 2)

He looked at me so quietly, with his dark eyes. I gasped in surprise, and he only trembled slightly. Yunyan and Yihan rushed over, intending to take him to the medicine room, but he stubbornly clung to my sleeve. He didn't make a sound, didn't cry or shout, just looked at me with his deep, dark, bright eyes, his hand gripping my sleeve so tightly that the veins bulged, making it hard to bear forcibly pulling him away.

Yunyan said that he hit his head when he fell off the cliff and his nerves were stimulated by the toxins, which caused him to lose his memory. The most terrifying thing is not ordinary amnesia, but "return to life" type amnesia. That is to say, his intelligence, life experience and living skills have all regressed to a stage close to that of an infant.

He couldn't speak, dress, or bathe; he could only sit or stand quietly and obediently. Except when he was near me, whenever a stranger approached, he would emanate an invisible pressure—perhaps an instinct from his time as Liu Cenfeng. While it might not necessarily cause any harm, it was definitely not pleasant; a timid person would break out in a cold sweat on the spot, and even Yunyan lost interest in messing with him. Thus, this heavy responsibility naturally fell on my shoulders, and my cruel and incomprehensible life as a wet nurse began.

I taught him to speak, to recognize characters, and to learn all sorts of life skills. I said, "My name is... Lin Yu, and your name is Yu Fei." He tugged at my sleeve, hesitantly uttering the word "Yu," his voice still as pleasant as ever. I happily rubbed his head and laughed. He lowered his head shyly, silently reciting the word "Yu," as if trying to etch it into his heart.

Actually, my original intention was to teach him his own name, but the first word he learned was to call me Yu. To distinguish him, I had to call him Feifei.

Feifei has a strong learning ability; in just two years, he learned to communicate and speak, and his calligraphy is much neater than Yunyan's. He loves reading, and I don't know if he's influenced by me. He can sit quietly by the window, with a cup of tea brewed by Yihan (by the way, Yihan has spoiled our family's tea tastes), and read for an entire afternoon. However, he reads so fast that he never reads a book a second time. Unlike in modern times when books are plentiful, I can't find any books that can keep him occupied.

The only thing he never grew up about was his unapproachability. Whenever I wasn't around, he would silently and taciturnly keep his handsome face expressionless, radiating a heavy pressure. This forced me to bring him along even when I came to Fengyin for military campaigns. Fortunately, he doesn't like going out or playing around, so it's okay if he stays in his room all day. This has allowed me to hide Liu Cenfeng's awkward identity within Fengyin for the past two years.

I took his hand and stood up. Although the person next to me was a handsome guy who was almost a head taller than me, I had a strange feeling of becoming a great mother: "You feel hungry after you've finished being angry? The snacks have been prepared for a while. Go eat after you wash your face."
