Chapter Seven: Threads of Love Author: Yu Xin

In an upscale residential area on the outskirts of Boston, Richard Sue, president of the Wihan Group, was hosting a lavish birthday party for his only daughter, Judy Sue. Richard Sue, an American of Chinese descent, had built a successful business empire through the hard work and perseverance characteristic of Chinese immigrants after two generations of immigrants. He and his father further expanded the empire, transforming it into a multinational corporation with numerous subsidiaries in major European and American countries, making it an undeniable giant in the electronics industry.

After his wife died in childbirth, he never remarried, deeply loving her. His daughter became his pride and comfort. Despite being pampered, Judy did not become a spoiled and ignorant heiress. Instead, after earning doctorates in both economics and business administration, she became her father's capable right-hand woman.

Twenty-seven-year-old Letty Sue, tall and slender with a classically delicate face and a cold, mysterious aura, had always kept men at arm's length, regardless of whether they were interested in her or the wealth behind her. However, after meeting Joel at a global business conference, she fell hopelessly in love with him. Joel's restrained depth and intense composure, the cold, shrewd intelligence in his eyes, and the inexplicable, captivating power drew her into a whirlpool of love from which she could not extricate herself. She changed her schedule to seize every opportunity to meet him. Her eyes followed him constantly, greedily absorbing every detail about him. She relentlessly tried to impress him, desperately seeking his attention, yet she discovered that to him, she was no different from any other woman surrounding him, leaving her utterly frustrated.

For Richard, professionally, Joel's abilities were enough to shake the world's economy, and any connection with Joel would elevate his career to new heights. Personally, Judy was his only beloved daughter, the sole memento of his deceased wife, and he was willing to do anything for her, to obtain anything—or anyone—for her. He had long seen through Morty's feelings for Joel and sensed her sadness and disappointment. If Ron wanted Joel, then he would help her get him, even if it meant resorting to any means necessary.

Richard waited with his daughter. Although Joel had politely declined, Richard believed he would come… Beneath Judy's cold and indifferent exterior lay a heart full of anxiety and unease. She tried her best to suppress the urge to rush to the door and crane her neck in anticipation. She exchanged incoherent pleasantries with the guests, her eyes frequently glancing anxiously at her father, her gaze asking, "Will he come?"

A commotion erupted at the door. Judy, unable to contain her joy, rushed towards the door. He had finally arrived… Princess Chris arrived with Philip, one of Seth's vice presidents. Almost unable to bear the intense disappointment, Judy swallowed her tears and forced a smile to welcome Princess Chris. She knew Princess Chris had also come to America specifically for Joel. At least, Joel wasn't accompanying Princess Chris. Judy comforted herself.

A commotion arose again at the doorway. Judy and Princess Chris turned around almost simultaneously… He’s here, finally here! The two striking women stared mesmerized at Joel’s outstanding and captivating appearance, his elegant and graceful demeanor, his well-proportioned and muscular physique, his long and powerful legs, his gaze both cold and distant, yet soft and sensual. Joel, a blend of arrogance and sensuality, had attracted the admiring glances of every woman in the room the moment he appeared.

Richard approached Maud, and Joel walked steadily toward them. "President Su, Miss Su," Joel nodded in greeting. "Princess Chris." "President Rox, thank you for coming to my birthday ball!" Judy smiled brightly, a stark contrast to her usual coldness.

Joel glanced thoughtfully at Richard. "It's my pleasure." "Now that Judy's dance partner has arrived, we can announce the start of the ball." Richard looked at his daughter's happy expression with satisfaction; soon he would be able to fulfill her greatest wish.

He could see the deep affection Princess Chris, known as the most beautiful woman in Europe, had for Joel, as well as the many other women who secretly admired him. He had to admit that many of them were better off than Judy, especially Princess Chris.

Therefore, based on his experience and skills in running a business, he believed that he had to strike first, and Joel would eventually give in, otherwise he would create a scandal and embarrass the Rox family.

Richard thought to himself as he led the way toward the band's stage, with Judy and Joel following behind, unable to contain their excitement.

Richard stood on the stage. "Attention, everyone!" He raised his hands, drawing everyone's attention, and then lowered them. "Thank you! Thank you all for coming today. This is my daughter Judy's birthday dance. Thank you for taking the time to participate. The dance will begin soon, so please be patient, young people."

Richard reached out and pulled Joel and Maggie to his side. "Before the ball begins, I have something special to announce. Just now, Mr. Joel Rox, the president of the Seth Corporation, obtained my consent to marry my daughter, Ms. Maggie Sue. Today's birthday ball is also their engagement ball."

After several clearly audible gasps, the large ballroom fell silent in an instant. Everyone stared at Joel in horror, his expression transforming in a flash into a chilling, furious rage.

Early in the morning, before the sky was fully bright, Joel rushed to Sisi's house, grabbed her while she was still asleep, told her it was time, then pushed her into the bathroom, helped her brush her teeth and wash her face, then opened the closet, grabbed a white dress haphazardly and helped her put it on, without even having time to comb her hair, and hurriedly pushed her out the door.

From beginning to end, Sisi was in a daze and passively allowed him to grab and push her around. It wasn't until she got into the Mercedes that her mind cleared up a little, and she was full of doubts about what had happened.

Sitting in the car, Sisi glanced back at Yuan Ling and She Yunhao in the back seat, who both looked equally bewildered, then turned to look at Joel in the driver's seat. Joel was focused on driving, his expression somewhat intimidating, with tightly pursed lips, cold, hard eyes, a stern attitude, and an underlying tension.

The car stopped in front of a building that resembled a government building. This was the first time Sisi had seen Joel's family. After a brief introduction and a nod of greeting, Sisi was herded into the building by a group of equally nervous people.

soon--

She got married? Staring at the enormous, rare purple diamond wedding ring on her finger, it all happened so fast it was almost unbelievable. She got married? Just like that?

Sisi stared at Joel intently. No church, no wedding dress. No flowers, and that was it?

"No matter how much it costs, no matter how many people you threaten, get this done within an hour." Joel was busy instructing David on registering the household registration and obtaining legal identity and residency for Jay Rox for Du Yunhao. "Everything must be legal; I don't want any loopholes. Remember, Jay is my biological son, not an adopted son or a stepson, but my own son. This must be clear. Also, make sure no one leaks any information, bribes them. Warn them, threaten them, kill them—use whatever method you want."

"Alright, baby, we're finally married!" He kissed Sisi's lips. "I still have some things to take care of. Philip will take you back. Wait for me, I'll contact you." With that, he turned and left with Mary and Rosanne.

Sisi stared at Joel's back.

“XiXi, congratulations!” David kissed her on the cheek. “I have to go register my household registration, so I have to leave now. See you later.”

Sisi stared at David's back.

"Sisi, congratulations!" Philip kissed her on the cheek. "I'll take you back."

Sisi stared at Philip, then followed him blankly.

After dropping them off at home, Philip left in a hurry. The three of them stood in the living room looking at each other, wondering what had happened.

It wasn't until they were sitting in the living room watching TV that Sisi suddenly realized that this was the reason for Joel's strange behavior that morning.

Yuan Ling huffed unhappily, "So that's why your daddy's so nervous—he did something wrong!"

"Daddy didn't do anything wrong, he was just worried that Mommy would misunderstand." With his father absent, Du Yunhao could only explain on his father's behalf.

"Oh, really? Then why doesn't he just tell the truth instead of being so mysterious?"

"With Mommy's broad-minded thinking, she may not be able to understand Daddy's explanation."

Upon hearing this, Sisi immediately glared fiercely at Du Yunhao.

Du Yunhao pretended not to see it and continued, "Moreover, the TV report also said that Daddy's face turned very ugly on the spot, both shocked and angry, which shows that Daddy was also very surprised."

“Basically speaking, given your father’s status, if it wasn’t his own choice, who would dare to falsely accuse him?” Yuan Ling still couldn’t believe that someone would dare to falsely accuse the dignified CEO of Seth.

"Isn't that how Helen became clingy back then?" Du Yunhao retorted.

Yuan Ling hesitated. "She...she's different. They're family friends, so it's always awkward to immediately break off relations!"

Du Yunhao snorted dismissively. "What's the difference? As far as I know, Richard Sue, the president of the Weihan Group, is an old fox. He only has one daughter, whom he dotes on to the extreme. If Judy Sue really loves her father as much as the rumors suggest, it's hard to guarantee that the old fox won't resort to any means necessary for his daughter's lifelong happiness and the future succession of the Weihan Group."

“He could deny it on the spot, and the problem would be solved,” Yuan Ling argued again.

"The report said that after Richard Soo noticed that his father's expression was not right, he kicked all the media out of the venue, and no one except the guests knew what happened afterward. The media was also surprised, and all the guests who attended the ball kept quiet and did not utter a word, which shows that things were not as Richard Soo expected. I guess those media were invited by Richard Soo on purpose."

"Alright! Even if your daddy is innocent, I'll say it again: just explain things to your mommy and everything will be fine. Why make such a fuss?"
