Still no agglutination reaction! He was getting anxious and sweating. Shen Zihan at the next table was already proudly announcing that he was blood type A. Ren Xuefei seemed to have received her results as well, and was discussing something with Teacher Xia Tian.

Yan Hao simply couldn't accept this result, and he was even less willing to write in the lab report that he had type O blood.

He reluctantly raised his hand. Teacher Xia quickly noticed and came over to ask, "Is there a problem?"

Yan Hao explained his experimental results and his doubts. Then, at Professor Xia's request, he repeated the experiment. The aggregation reaction still did not occur.

"I guarantee I'm definitely not blood type O," Yan Hao said firmly.

“But you’re definitely not blood type B.” Teacher Xia said softly, almost to herself.

"However, you're not necessarily only blood type O," Teacher Xia quickly added.

"Huh?" Yan Hao opened his mouth wide in surprise.

"Let's get a blood sample from you later. I think you might belong to another blood type system," Teacher Xia said thoughtfully. "However, I'm only saying it's possible. If not—you're definitely blood type O."

Yan Hao felt that things were getting more and more complicated and inexplicable. The teacher's words were completely baffling to him.

"Come over at 2 PM tomorrow—because I need some special reagents to make a final diagnosis, which must be taken to the affiliated hospital's laboratory."

Before leaving, Yan Hao handed over a new blood sample he had drawn to Teacher Xia Tian.

After leaving the lab, Shen Zihan asked him, "Haozi, what's your blood type? I'm type A, the impulsive type. They say it's easy to get coronary heart disease or something, damn it!" Shen Zihan said, affectionately putting his hand on Yan Hao's shoulder. "Seeing how listless you are, I guess you're type B?"

Yan Hao currently only has Shen Zihan as a close friend at school. Ever since their experience of sneaking into the anatomy classroom to steal exam questions, they've developed a bond of mutual support. Furthermore, Shen Zihan's attentive care when Yan Hao was hospitalized with a fever has elevated their friendship to the level of brothers in adversity.

So Yan Hao simply told Shen Zihan what had just happened.

Shen Zihan said, "What a strange thing! Hehe, go check what blood type is written in our medical records when we enrolled!"

Shen Zihan's words really reminded Yan Hao. He grabbed Shen Zihan and headed to the school hospital located in the southwest corner of the school.

On his medical record kept at the school hospital, Yan Hao saw that the blood type column clearly stated "Type B".

Shen Zihan said, "See, I told you it's type B!"

Yan Hao muttered to himself, "How could this be? How could this be?"

Suddenly he turned to Shen Zihan and said, "Silly boy, did I have a blood routine and blood type test when I was hospitalized a few days ago with a fever?"

Shen Zihan thought for a moment and said, "Yes! It really was done. The doctor said your white blood cell count was extremely high, so they gave you antibiotics."

Led by Shen Zihan, Yan Hao quickly found the doctor who was seeing patients that day.

The doctor, who wore gold-rimmed glasses and had fingers that looked like chicken claws, impatiently pulled out the archived medical records and threw them at the two students. He probably thought these two students were there to cause trouble.

They flipped to the back of the medical record and found the attached copy of the lab report. On the blood routine and blood typing report, the blood type column clearly showed "Type O".

Even Shen Zihan was stunned this time.

"Oh my god, is there some mistake? Thank goodness you didn't get a blood transfusion that day. Otherwise, this joke would have been much worse," Shen Zihan said, still shaken.

Yan Hao was speechless for a moment. He silently went through the whole story in his mind.

Before he developed a high fever, his blood type was B.

After developing a high fever, his blood type changed to O.

According to Teacher Xia Tian, his blood type may not necessarily be only type O.

But one thing is certain: his blood type is definitely no longer B.

Even Shen Zihan understood this point.

"Haozi, did someone give you a complete overhaul?" Shen Zihan asked Yan Hao anxiously.

"You must keep this a secret for me. I will find out." Yan Hao said slowly after a moment of silence.

After almost a sleepless night, Yan Hao still had panda-like dark circles under his eyes when he went to see Teacher Xia Tian at 2 PM the next day.

Teacher Xia was already waiting for him in the office.

"The results are in." Without further pleasantries, Teacher Xia took a report directly from the drawer.

"Look, your blood type is type O in the ABO blood group system and negative in the Rh blood group system."

A long string of terms confused Yan Hao. "Rh? Negative?" Yan Hao heard a term he had never heard before.

Teacher Xia gestured for him to sit down in a chair next to the desk.

"The blood types A, B, AB, and O that we usually refer to all belong to the first blood group system discovered in 1901, namely the ABO blood group system. However, to date, scientists have discovered 25 different red blood cell blood group systems. Besides ABO, the more important ones include Rh, MNSs, Kell, Duff, and Kidd. The Rh blood group system was discovered in 1940. It is divided into Rh-positive and Rh-negative blood types. Among the Han Chinese in China, 99% are Rh-positive, and only 1% are Rh-negative, which is quite rare. Your blood type belongs to this rare category. The difference between positive and negative lies in whether or not the red blood cells lack the D antigen."

Teacher Xia spoke calmly and used precise language. Perhaps this is how all medical students are—they strive for accuracy and precision.

Yan Hao listened to every single word she said this time, but each word shattered his last shred of hope like a bomb.

“I did it myself this time, and Director Zhao from the laboratory checked it again, so there’s absolutely no mistake. You can see Director Zhao’s signature on the form.”

Seeing that Yan Hao looked somewhat disappointed and confused, Teacher Xia continued, "Although it's a rare blood type, it still exists in the population. As long as it's not a large-scale blood transfusion or bone marrow transplant, you don't need to worry about your blood type. Besides, you can find information on Rh-negative blood donors at major blood banks now."

Teacher Xia smiled and said, "Think about it, why didn't you notice the aggregation reaction?"

"It's because the blood doesn't contain A, B, or AB antigens, just like type O blood," Yan Hao said in a low voice.

Teacher Xia nodded. "Good, you reacted quickly. But that doesn't mean you can receive blood transfusions from people with the ABO blood group system. Because no one in the world has Rh antibodies in their serum! You won't experience hemolysis the first time you receive a transfusion of Rh-positive blood. However, your blood will produce anti-Rh antibodies through humoral immunity. So, after a second or subsequent transfusion of Rh-positive blood, hemolysis will occur in your serum due to the destruction of red blood cells, and the consequences—will be fatal."

Yan Hao understood about 80-90% of what Teacher Xia said.

“I’ve only ever met one person with your blood type so far, sigh—” Teacher Xia’s voice suddenly lowered, and she let out a soft sigh.

"Who?" Yan Hao was startled.

"He's dead." Teacher Xia turned her head to look out the window, her expression just as it had been that day when she lingered by the window of the anatomy classroom—sad and melancholic!

Yan Hao's mind was racing. An ominous premonition and chill slowly rose from the soles of his feet.

"How did he die?" The question practically slipped out of Yan Hao's mouth. His tone was impulsive and somewhat inhumane.

"Let's not talk about this anymore." Teacher Xia glanced at him and forced a smile. She waved her hand and said, "It's good that you know your blood type now, it'll save you a lot of trouble in the future. Remember, you are Rh negative."

Yan Hao walked out of the physiology department dejectedly. On the first floor, he stared intently for a few seconds in the direction of the anatomy classroom corridor.

At that moment, deep within his heart, a voice slowly told him: Everything—this is only just beginning!

Jiang Boyu cornered He Jihong on the track of the playground early in the morning.

He was still wearing his snow-white Adidas outfit, while He Jihong wore a crimson tracksuit. The only difference was the light yellow headband she wore to hold her hair in place—which made her look much more energetic.

Jiang Boyu reached out and stopped He Jihong at the bend in the northwest corner. He had been standing there for a while.

He Jihong saw him, slowed her pace, and said while wiping the sweat from her forehead, "Good morning."

Jiang Boyu just stared at her silently. He Jihong acted as if nothing had happened—which made him a little angry.

"Good morning to you too! I want to talk to you. I want to ask you, why did you quit the football team?" Jiang Boyu's tone was firm, with a hint of interrogation.

He Jihong walked off the track, saying as she went, "This is my decision. Didn't Wang Danyang tell you why?"

“She said I don’t think those are the reasons. You’re a key player, can’t you think about the whole team?” Jiang Boyu said angrily, half a step behind her.

He Jihong stopped. Turning to Jiang Boyu, she said, "I still have a lot to do, and I can't fully explain it to you, Coach Jiang! But thank you for coming to see me. I don't want to change my mind now."

Jiang Boyu saw that her expression was as cold as ice, clearly indicating that she had made up her mind to leave.

"Don't you have any sense of collectivism? Don't you have any team spirit? You're a striker, how can you just leave like that!"

"I just want to do what I love. If doing something becomes a burden, then it's better not to do it at all. Maybe that's a bit selfish of me, please forgive me!"

Jiang Boyu was speechless for a moment, not knowing what to say.

"Fine! You go, I'll go too! It's a mess anyway! I've almost repaid your favors! Goodbye!" Jiang Boyu was filled with resentment, and out of nowhere, he blurted out these words.

"Stop right there!" He Jihong called out to Jiang Boyu, who was about to walk away.

“You can’t leave!” He Jihong continued from behind him.

Jiang Boyu turned his face back. Anxiety and anticipation were both written on his handsome face. "Is there something you're worried about? Is it because of Wang Danyang? Or is it because you feel it's difficult to handle having you replace the team leader? If it's the former, I'll go talk to her. If it's the latter, I'll take back what I said that day. Okay? Otherwise, I don't want to continue working here!"

He Jihong smiled faintly, seemingly trying to ease the tension.

"You're overthinking it, Junior Brother Jiang! I'm truly grateful that you gave me face last time—by coming back! My withdrawal this time was indeed quite sudden, but please believe me it wasn't done impulsively. Besides, I just can't participate in training, I didn't say I absolutely wouldn't participate in the competition. If the department team needs me, I'll still be there!"

Jiang Boyu said coldly, "Maybe I'm meddling! I just don't want to embarrass myself as a coach. You played well. If you hadn't played, I wouldn't even have been confident of qualifying."

He Jihong chuckled, and this was the first time Jiang Boyu had ever seen her laugh so brightly. He was momentarily taken aback by the sudden burst of laughter.

He Jihong said with a smile, "Yes, that's why I asked you to continue to stand guard until the very end. If you were gone, the consequences would be unimaginable."

"Then—I have a request! Please tell me the real reason you left!"

He Jihong smiled and said, "I've already explained the reason. Don't be so stubborn. Your work is excellent, really."

Jiang Boyu's face flushed slightly. He could tell that He Jihong's praise was not just empty words.

“Alright, you’re my senior, I can’t argue with you. If there’s anything needed during the competition, please don’t make excuses!” Jiang Boyu said helplessly. He didn’t know why he had always been persuaded by He Jihong in the end during these conversations and negotiations. He thought he should give her his nickname, “Stubborn Ox.”

Every time he was with her, Jiang Boyu felt an indescribable joy. Even when they argued, he hoped to spend more time with her, just a little longer.

"Can we be friends?" Jiang Boyu suddenly asked He Jihong. His face was already flushed.

"Don't misunderstand, I... I meant ordinary friends." Jiang Boyu looked down at his toes and stammered as he added.

Silence fell. Jiang Boyu didn't even dare to look up at He Jihong's face.

"Aren't we friends? Isn't it true that all handsome guys like to get close to girls? Hmm?" He Jihong said. Her tone was calm, and it was impossible to tell whether she liked or disliked it.

Jiang Boyu paused for a moment. He hurriedly said, "I, I'm not handsome. Never mind, well—goodbye."

Turning and running away, Jiang Boyu sprinted through the chilly autumn wind; his young heart pounded like a drum. He was somewhat excited—after all, this was the first time he had dared to "talk" so boldly to a girl; but he was mostly annoyed—her tone sounded condescending! More like an avoidance, a disregard.

Jiang Boyu ran all the way to the back of the gymnasium in the far corner of the school. Finding no one around, he let out a long howl. Dejected, he grabbed at his hair.

He Jihong watched Jiang Boyu's retreating figure with a smile. Her gaze held a hint of admiration—but that was all. She admired the boy's straightforward personality and vibrant energy. His speech and actions were a little impulsive, a little childish—sometimes, that could be considered an endearing flaw!

How could He Jihong not understand what he meant? How could she not see the affection he had for her when they were on the team? Sometimes, she would feel a tender touch of emotion welling up from the bottom of her heart.

But He Jihong had her own views on love. In her mind, a boy like Jiang Boyu was more like, or more suited to, being a younger brother, rather than a lover.

She's a sophomore in college. She's twenty years old. She hasn't even considered whether or not to have a boyfriend. She's too busy and tired to think about these things. Even if she absolutely had to have one—someone more knowledgeable, more stable, more refined—might be more to her standards.

He Jihong is an independent and precocious girl. For her, love means more than just romance!

How could Jiang Boyu know all this? All he knew was that there was no reason to love someone.

Such thoughts have clearly brought him endless troubles and pain in his life.

He Jihong recalled how Wang Danyang had so openly expressed her admiration for the foreign coach when she approached him.
