Kapitel 35

They drained all the water from her body.

Shi Lingming looked at him with misty eyes, but she bit her lip and inserted the room card.

She had just seen it through the corridor light; there was the little card Chi Cheng had mentioned on the ground.

She couldn't resist teasing him, "How about it, call one? Every girl in City C is gorgeous."

Since she had already interrupted him, Chi Cheng took it over with an air of seriousness.

She was also reading aloud, "Lively and lovely young girl, college student, charming and voluptuous young woman, high-quality white-collar lady."

Chi Cheng knew perfectly well that most of these small advertisements were traps, but he didn't expose them.

Chi Cheng extended his index finger to lift her chin, "Our darling is lively and adorable, and also incredibly charming. What more could I possibly need?"

Even after getting past this hurdle, it wasn't over. Shi Ling then hooked him up and led him to the bed.

However, once she sat on the bed, she slowly looked at him with a smile and said, "What happened to visiting several teachers?"

Chi Cheng knew she was deliberately bringing up old grievances tonight, and he was already losing patience with her after playing along for a while.

He thought for a moment, then lowered his voice seductively in her ear, "How about we record a video?"

Shi Ling never expected him to say such a thing. While she was still in a daze, Chi Cheng had already kissed her lips and pinned her down.

She could only mumble a disgruntled yet warning, "Chi Cheng."

Chi Cheng smiled. The way she called him by his name was quite meaningful, and he had to figure it out for himself.

After putting in a lot of effort, Chi Cheng was naturally hungry.

He had already been on a bumpy journey and hadn't eaten much.

The two quickly washed up, changed their clothes, and went out to find something to eat.

Several barbecue restaurants had set up barbecue grills outside, but Shi Ling didn't want to eat out, so the two of them said they would just buy a few items from each restaurant and take them home to eat.

After you've ordered, just wait in front of the barbecue grill.

The charcoal under the grill burned bright red, occasionally sparking as the wind blew it away. The charcoal sizzled and crackled, and the firelight softened Shi Ling's complexion considerably.

She linked arms with Chi Cheng and told him that she might need to visit her advisor frequently these days to write her thesis, so staying in the dormitory would be more convenient.

Chi Cheng knew what she was planning. He glanced at her and said slowly and calmly, "Don't even think about it."

Shi Ling was dissatisfied, "I write in my dorm during the day."

Chi Cheng neither agreed nor disagreed, so Shi Ling assumed he had reluctantly agreed.

Regardless of whether he agrees or not, she has to go back and write it.

The two were still waiting in front of the barbecue grill, not in a hurry, and didn't rush the owner.

Chi Cheng caught a glimpse of a man staring at Shi Ling for a long time on the roadside, and he was about to give him a warning look.

Then they saw that the person had already walked over.

Even in the noisy environment, from a distance, you could hear him calling out, "Shi Ling."

Shi Ling turned her head upon hearing the sound, and upon seeing it, she froze on the spot.

It was Song Licheng.

She then remembered that the person she had just met was Song Licheng's classmate.

Their Civil Engineering department is the top school at C University, located in the old buildings. They have to pass this street to get back to their dorms. It's so late; they're probably all working on some assignment they recently gave out, and they're all in the lecture hall working on it. Normally, they wouldn't do this.

Moreover, Shi Ling has never seen him since she took the postgraduate entrance exam.

I thought Song Licheng had already returned to his hometown. He had said that the job his parents found for him was an internship, which was also considered a probationary period.

Unexpectedly, their reunion was met with such an awkward scene.

Putting aside the chaotic surroundings and the Xinjiang uncle singing while barbecuing nearby, the fact that she appeared on this decadent street arm in arm with Chi Cheng was already incredibly awkward.

Shi Ling quickly calmed down, and she realized she was in the wrong.

She whispered to Chi Cheng, "My ex."

Song Licheng looked at Shi Ling and Chi Cheng with an expression that was both shocked and saddened.

It's unclear whether he was sad for Shi Ling or for himself.

Chi Cheng glanced at him; he had a strong scholarly air about him and was carrying a heavy backpack, clearly indicating that he had just finished studying.

Chi Cheng may be carefree, but his temperament is uniquely elegant.

Naturally, he did not lose to Song Licheng.

Shi Ling had already let it go. After her initial surprise, she nodded as if they were just ordinary friends.

"What a coincidence."

Hearing her say that made Song Licheng even more upset.

He knew Shi Ling's temperament; the moment he chose to go home, it meant betrayal, and Shi Ling would never look at him again.

During their last phone call, taking advantage of the relatively peaceful atmosphere between them, he asked her if she was alright. However, Chi Cheng eventually snatched the phone away from her, which he was prepared for.

However, upon meeting someone like Chi Cheng, who was completely different from him, she was even more worried that Shi Ling might be acting impulsively and wantonly ruining herself.

Song Licheng opened his mouth, but didn't know what to say.

Seeing that he couldn't speak, Chi Cheng asked Shi Ling in a relaxed tone, "Aren't you going to introduce him?"

Shi Ling casually said the two people's names, "Song Licheng".

"Chi Cheng".

At first glance, it sounds like a handover ceremony.

Chi Cheng nodded, suppressing a laugh.

Song Licheng finally asked, "Shi Ling, would it be convenient for us to talk alone for a while?"

Shi Ling still didn't say anything, and Chi Cheng looked down at her.

She looked down at the ground expressionlessly.

Chi Cheng patted her hair, his words deflecting her concerns with ease.

“Go ahead,” he said to Song Licheng, “I’ll just lend it to you for a little while, then return it as is.”

Author's Note: Sigh, what I actually wanted to write at the beginning was when Chi Cheng said to Shi Ling, "You are worth a thousand troops by yourself."

The key word is "horse".

Everyone can carefully consider the deeper meaning.

Chapter 26

Men generally have this problem: even though they chose to let go, when they see their ex, they still have some fantasies, feeling that they are unique and that their ex still misses them.

Even if you try to sever all ties cleanly during a breakup, wishing for an immediate end to any future entanglements, when you meet again, you still hope that the other person will satisfy your pitiful vanity, perhaps disguised as genuine concern.

Seeing you unhappy makes me secretly pleased, as if I can't live without him. Seeing you doing well makes me resentful, hoping that even though we live a life of perfect harmony, I'm still unsatisfied.

Therefore, the saying "a breakup reveals a person's character" is truly accurate.

It now seems that although Song Licheng is honest and kind, he still retains the inherent flaws of a man.

Seeing that Shi Ling was still holding her arm and not moving, Chi Cheng asked her, "I'm going to have a smoke."

Shi Ling looked up at him. Chi Cheng asked casually, and she didn't know if he was so confident that he was disdainful, or if he was truly generous and tolerant.

Thinking back to the last time she answered a phone call, he made sarcastic remarks. Now it seems that she probably offended him because she didn't watch him play basketball at that time.

Shi Ling curled her lips into a smile.

Everything that needed to be said was said in the last phone call. She soon went abroad, and the two had no further contact.

Song Licheng simply asked her how she was doing.

There's absolutely no point in trying to salvage the relationship.

Shi Ling remained motionless.

She barely even looked at Song Licheng, only glancing at him casually as she spoke.

"I don't think we have anything left to talk about," Shi Ling said coldly.

Men often have another trait: the more unattainable something is, the more it entices them.

Shi Ling sighed, "You've seen it all. I'm really fine. It's all a personal choice. From now on, we have nothing to do with each other."

Chi Cheng heard these words clearly.

He knew that Shi Ling, a person with strong opinions, would never say such things to please him; she probably genuinely didn't want to see him again.

When Shi Ling decides to break up, she truly cuts all ties completely. Last time, she probably let it go and decided to part amicably.

He didn't show any smugness.

While thinking about this, I absentmindedly glanced at the barbecue stall.

Song Licheng frowned even more as he looked at Chi Cheng.

Chi Cheng's attire was rather slick and uncouth. I hadn't noticed him before, but now that I see him tilting his head, I can see a silver earring near his ear.

After Shi Ling finished speaking, she tugged at Chi Cheng, indicating to him, "Let's go first, we'll come back for food later."

Seeing that they were about to leave, Song Licheng finally couldn't bear it any longer and chased after them for a couple of steps.

He's not right for you.

Hearing such a ridiculous and absurd remark, Shi Ling's expression grew even colder, and she didn't know how to respond.

Chi Cheng laughed when he heard this, and his laughter made him seem even less like a proper person.

He answered for Shi Ling, and this time his tone was no longer indifferent, but firm and resolute.

Whether it's suitable or not is not up to you to decide.

It's me.
