"Mr. Hu, it's such a pity that such a large grove of trees has been cut down!"
"What's a pity? This place is a geomantically auspicious location!" Hu Gang said, standing on the hillside. "Look, Pingshan City is right below the mountain, and Pingshan's economy is getting better and better! Pingshan, going east along the Yangtze River leads to the Yangtze River Delta, and going south along the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway leads to the Pearl River Delta. It's a golden intersection!"
“Yes, yes! But what does this have to do with this grove of trees?” Zhang Mingcheng said.
“Young man, you don’t understand!” Hu Gang continued, “The land around Pingshan has been almost completely developed, only this large forest on the back mountain hasn’t attracted attention yet. I’m going to develop this forest into Pingshan’s largest resort.” The more Hu Gang spoke, the more animated he became: “The scenery here is beautiful, the air is fresh, and it’s very close to the city, making commuting and vacations very convenient. Especially standing here, look, you can see all the mountains below, how pleasant is that!”
"Mr. Hu, this forest on the back mountain is the best green barrier for Pingshan City! Cutting it down will harm the environment."
"As the saying goes, you can't have everything! I didn't cut down the whole forest, just a part of it. My villa is built right in the middle of the forest, you could say it's a natural oxygen bar!"
“Yes, it would be nice to build a resort here, but…” Zhang Mingcheng still felt it was a bit of a pity.
"What is it? Alright, I won't talk to you about that anymore. I'll have the construction company move in tomorrow. You should get ready right away!"
“Okay, Mr. Hu,” Zhang Mingcheng replied.
The rumbling of machinery began to echo in the woods behind Pingshan City. Rows of large trees fell down, and a few days later, the middle of the woods became a barren flat area.
"...Modern operations are so fast! It's the dead of winter now, and we absolutely must finish building the resort before the height of summer next year. This is Cheng Gang Company's biggest investment! So, the development speed must be accelerated, and no link in the chain can afford to go wrong. I'm going to the provincial capital these next few days to discuss loans, so Vice President Wang will be in full charge of the infrastructure work, with Zhang Mingcheng assisting in supervising the project's progress. Alright, meeting adjourned." Hu Gang stood up from his seat, looking at everyone with a smug expression, as if he could already see a noble and elegant resort rising before his eyes!
The roar of the machines grew louder and louder, causing the trees around the development site to bend and buckle, and also drawing complaints from the nearby residents. Only the construction workers continued to work tirelessly. Every drop of sweat was worth a penny, and they all wanted to work like spinning tops, if their bodies allowed. Zhang Mingcheng was a meticulous but not harsh supervisor, and he would lend a hand when necessary.
It was Saturday, and Zhang Mingcheng wanted to go home early. He also wanted to give the workers a break; they had been working for more than ten days straight and deserved a rest. As the sun was about to set, and winter nights came especially early, Zhang Mingcheng said loudly, "Brothers, let's stop here for today. Let's get some rest; it's time to relax."
"Manager Zhang, thank you! We can finish in a little while longer," one of the workers replied.
"Alright then, but don't wait too long, it'll get dark soon," Zhang Mingcheng said.
"Okay! It'll be ready soon!"
The excavator, which had been making a "putt-putt-putt" sound, suddenly stopped.
"What happened?" Zhang Mingcheng asked.
"I don't know either!" Excavator driver Amin also found it strange. "Maybe it hit something hard."
"Let's try again!" Zhang Mingcheng said.
“Okay!” Amin restarted the excavator, and the “putt-putt-putt” sound rang out again. “It’s all right now!” Amin said to Zhang Mingcheng.
"Put-put-put-put—hiss—sizzle—" The excavator stopped again.
"Strange, what's going on?" Amin was particularly puzzled. This rarely happened. Even when it encountered hard rocks, the machine would only slow down, but it wouldn't stop.
“I’ll go down and take a look!” Amin said.
The machine was indeed working perfectly; all the parts were in good condition, and the fuel was plentiful. It seemed the problem was with the land. Amin walked over to the spot where the excavator was digging and examined it closely.
"Xiao Dong, give me your iron shovel." Amin said to Xiao Dong, the worker standing next to him.
Strange, the shovel went down so easily, why couldn't the excavator? A strong sense of curiosity suddenly arose in Amin's heart. He wanted to know the reason, so he continued to dig with the shovel.
With a "clang," the iron shovel seemed to have hit something hard.
Amin swung the shovel and dug down again.
"Ah—" Amin was so frightened that he dropped the iron shovel in his hand and stood there frozen, his eyes fixed on the spot where the shovel had been swung down.
"Ah Ming, what's wrong?" Zhang Mingcheng asked loudly, puzzled.
"Bones...bones, human...human bones!" Amin exclaimed in terror. His terror stemmed not only from the fact that they had unearthed human bones, but also from their strange posture. They were the bones of a pair of human hands, arms raised straight up, fingers spread, as if a dying cry for help, or perhaps an angry accusation. What kind of person could be buried here?

Reply [13]: Everyone rushed over, looking at the strange bones with surprise and a bit of fear. Construction workers all hope for peace and good fortune, and digging up dead bones is obviously not a good omen. For a moment, everyone was at a loss for what to do.
"Amin, dig some more and see what else is there!" Zhang Mingcheng instructed.
Amin continued digging with his shovel, but this time he dug very slowly, as if afraid of disturbing the soul of the deceased who had been sleeping for many years.
In no time, all the remains were unearthed. It was clearly a woman's skeleton; the bones were mostly intact, and surprisingly, there was a pile of small bone fragments inside the abdominal cavity, one of which resembled a child's skull. Could this woman have died pregnant? If so, she must have suffered greatly in life—a truly resentful woman! Everyone suddenly tensed up, because the ghosts of resentful women are known for their viciousness and power. Thinking this, they dared not move.
"Xiao Zhang, what are you doing? Why has everyone stopped?" Vice President Wang happened to pass by and, seeing the workers standing there without doing anything, asked somewhat angrily.
"Mr. Wang, we've dug up a bunch of human bones here. Why don't you come down and take a look?" Zhang Mingcheng said.
"What? They dug up human bones?" Upon hearing this, Boss Wang immediately ran downstairs.
Zhang Mingcheng had A Ming recount the incident of finding the bone to Vice President Wang.
"Oh, is that so!" Vice President Wang thought for a moment and said, "The project timeline is getting tighter and tighter, so it's normal to occasionally dig up something. This used to be a large forest, who knows what else we might have found! I think we shouldn't waste time on this bone, we can just throw it away somewhere."
“Mr. Wang, this isn’t quite right. We should at least hold a ceremony for them or something. We’ve disturbed them!” Zhang Mingcheng said.
"Why bother with the ceremony? Who knows what kind of mountain spirit this is? You're not related to her at all, why are you worrying about this?" Vice President Wang said angrily. "Aming, you quickly throw this bone into the woods over there, the farther the better." As he spoke, Vice President Wang walked away, but when he was almost at the roadside, he turned back and said, "Let's just dig a hole and bury it simply."

June 18, 2002.
The Qingyun Resort was finally completed, and a grand celebration was held that day. Wealthy individuals, dignitaries, and celebrities from all walks of life in the city came to offer their congratulations. Hu Gang, leading a group of managers from Cheng Gang Company, greeted these dignitaries with beaming smiles at the entrance. Flowers bloomed, drums resounded, colorful balloons floated, and cannons roared—a truly lively and festive atmosphere.
Qingyun Resort is a large-scale resort integrating tourism, vacation, dining, and entertainment. Based on General Manager Hu's suggestion, to attract guests, some special services have been added, such as striptease performances and escort services. Today is the first day of opening, and General Manager Hu generously announced at the banquet: all services today are free, except for the special services.
President Hu's generosity delighted these wealthy and influential people. After a hearty meal, they went about their own pleasures. Some climbed mountains to gaze at the moon, others sought shade and enjoyed the breeze, while many more headed straight for the special service areas, drawn by irresistible allure...
With General Manager Hu's help, Director Li of the Finance Bureau staggered into room 307.
"Mr. Hu... Mr. Hu, you... you... are really something!" Director Li's breath reeked of alcohol.
"Old Li, please don't stand on ceremony. You're my lucky charm! I treat everyone the same, but as for you... as long as you come to our Qingyun Manor, all your expenses are on the house!" General Manager Hu helped Director Li to the bed and said, "Director, please rest. I'll go find someone to take care of you!"
"President Hu, please...please don't..." Before Director Li could finish stammering, Hu Gang slammed the door shut and left.
"Don't pick the wildflowers by the roadside, you'll regret it if you don't pick them..." Director Li hummed a song leisurely as he lay on the bed.
"Director Li! Look how romantic you are!" A glamorous woman wearing a see-through top and a miniskirt swayed her sexy waist as she entered room 307, walked straight to the bedside, and looked provocatively at Director Li, who was lying on his back humming a song.
"Who?" Director Li sat up abruptly and then lay back down. "It's a young lady." As he spoke, he reached out and grabbed the young lady's soft, smooth hand and began to stroke it.
"Director Li, you can't do this!" The young lady broke free from Director Li's large hand, but then grabbed his neck. Director Li flipped over and pinned the young lady down.
"Isn't this how it should be, Miss?" Director Li stared lustfully at the young lady's full breasts, his mouth practically watering.
"Oh dear, you smell strongly of alcohol." The young lady frowned and turned her head to the side.
"The smell of alcohol gives you courage!" Director Li said as he began to grope and kiss the woman indiscriminately.
"Hey, be gentle, your beard is hurting me!" the woman said sweetly. This further fueled Director Li's burgeoning desire, and he impatiently began to strip off his clothes, then pounced on the woman naked...
Suddenly, the young lady's face turned deathly pale, her eyes filled with terror, and she stammered, "Ghost...ghost..."
Director Li ignored all of this and continued to kiss the young lady's full breasts passionately.
The young woman began to tremble all over, her body arching upwards, her hands tightly covering her eyes, and she screamed, "A ghost—!"
The scream was not only shrill but also filled with terror and misery. Even someone as infatuated with such beauty as Director Li was startled by the scream and had to stop his frenzied actions, muttering, "What are you doing? What a spoilsport!" as he raised his head.
Director Li's eyes froze, his eyeballs seemingly about to pop out. His face, which had been flushed, turned pale, then completely white. His hair stood on end, and beads of sweat—whether from the exercise or from shock—dropped and then fell in small drops, instantly covering his forehead. What had Director Li seen?
A shadow, the shadow of a woman in a red cheongsam with disheveled hair, was reflected in the mirror by the bedside. No, it should be said that she hung behind Director Li like a hanged ghost, her long hair reaching down to her waist, covering her entire upper body, revealing only her face. It was a terrifying ghostly face! A face as white as limestone, eyes as red as blood, two rows of snow-white fangs gleaming, and a pair of long, thin hands, as thin as bamboo poles, stretched straight forward, bouncing in the mirror... about to pierce Director Li's back!

Reply [15]: "My God!" Director Li was so frightened that he wet himself and rolled to the ground. He didn't have time to put on his clothes and ran out the door naked, stammering pitifully: "Ghost...ghost...ghost!"
The screams of Director Li and the young lady startled the entire floor, and everyone peeked out of their rooms to see what had happened. Security guards also rushed over.
"Director Li, what's going on?" Security captain Hu Biao asked. Seeing that Director Li was still naked, he quickly found a towel to wrap him up.
"Ghost...ghost...there's a ghost..." Director Li's whole body was still trembling.
"Xiao Wang, Xiao Ding, you two go in and take a look!" Hu Biao instructed.
Xiao Wang and Xiao Ding didn't dare to be careless. They carefully pushed open the door to room 307, turned on the light, and looked around. Apart from the young lady lying on the bed, they didn't find anything else.
"Captain Hu, there's nothing here," Xiao Ding said, heading towards the door.
"Where is Miss?" Hu Biao also came in.
"Miss has fainted, probably from fright," Xiao Wang said, checking her breathing.
"Look more closely," Hu Biao said. "Check if any outsiders have come in, wake the young lady up, and ask her what happened."
"Alright, it's all over now. Everyone go have fun on your own," Hu Biao said as he walked out of room 307, addressing the group of onlookers in the corridor. Meanwhile, Director Li had already been taken to the rest room by two other security guards; he was too shaken to continue and needed to calm down.
"What kind of demons and monsters are there in this vast world? That's nonsense!" Hu Gang said to Hu Biao.
"Mr. Hu, but Miss's account is very detailed and convincing. Besides, Director Li also saw the long-haired female ghost with his own eyes."
"I think Director Li must have been drunk and his vision was blurry. As for that lady, maybe she did it on purpose."
"What should we do? Director Li hasn't recovered yet!" Hu Biao said worriedly.
“How about this,” Hu Gang thought for a moment and said, “let the young lady reflect on her actions for a few days. I’ll talk to Director Li and we’ll open for business as usual tomorrow. It’s really disappointing that the first day of business is haunted.”
"Yes, Mr. Hu, I'll take care of it right away." Hu Biao replied and walked out of the general manager's office.

The ghost story subsided in less than a week, and business at Qingyun Manor continued to thrive. The so-called long-haired female ghost never reappeared. The young lady who accompanied Director Li that day was severely criticized by General Manager Hu and had half a month's salary deducted. From then on, no one talked about the female ghost anymore.
It was a weekend, and there were many people coming to the resort for vacation. Many more came specifically to experience the so-called special services. General Manager Hu was overjoyed and kept telling the security captain, Hu Biao, "You must pay attention to safety, you must pay attention to safety, and you absolutely cannot let anything go wrong."
The night was dark and the wind was strong, but Qingyun Manor was brightly lit and filled with the sounds of singing and dancing.
