Chapter 21 Life

Chapter 21 Life

“Yufei, do you know? Xu Lie and I…” I paused as I wiped Yufei’s body, my face flushing slightly, before continuing with a sweet smile, “Xu Lie and I have become a real couple. Also, my brother is coming back soon. You two were so close when you were little, you must be so happy to see him again. I’m very happy. So, you must bless me to find you in that era soon and bring you back safely.”

The door opened, and Yufei's mother, looking exhausted, smiled gently at me and said, "Lanlan, your husband has found the best doctor for Yufei, transferred him to the best hospital, and hired a nanny to monitor him day and night. You don't need to come over so often anymore."

I shook my head with a wry smile, took two steps forward, gently hugged her frail body, and whispered, "Auntie, Yufei became like this to save me. Why don't you blame me at all?"

"Silly girl," Aunt Nie patted my back gently and said softly, "That was Yufei's own choice. As his mother, I might feel heartache, sadness, and reluctance, but I can't deny his intention to save people. So how can I blame you?"

"Auntie, don't worry. No matter what, I will make sure Yufei wakes up. I swear."

I dried my wet hair, my bare feet stepping onto the soft, plush carpet. The room was dimly lit and warm. Xu Lie was reclining on the white downy bed, which was tinged pink by the lamplight, holding a thick English textbook. His long, slender fingers were pressed against the dark blue cover, and only his nose and above were visible on his face.

He looked up at the sound, his dark eyes languid and dreamy in the lamplight, yet they captivated me, making my face flush. He beckoned me over, and I quickly went to his side.

“These are all the best brain hospitals abroad.” He pointed to a page in the book with a dense row of English names and said to me, “Galan, have you ever thought about transferring Yufei abroad for treatment?”

"Ah—?" I exclaimed in surprise, and quickly said, "No, it's not necessary. Yufei will get better."

Xu Lie tilted his head, looking at me suspiciously: "Galan, are you hiding something from me?"

My face stiffened, unsure how to answer. I stammered for a while, and seeing Xu Lie's expression darken as if he were about to get angry, I panicked and hurriedly said, "Lie, I have something to tell you, but you can't say I'm talking nonsense!"

Xu Lie nodded expressionlessly.

I frowned and knelt down in front of him, saying, "Lie, let me tell you, if, just if! I'll tell you, every night in my dreams I enter an ancient alternate world and become the prime minister of a country."

Xu Lie stared at me with wide eyes, looking at me in disbelief.

I swallowed hard and continued, "In fact, I travel between the two worlds every day, day and night. And Yufei's soul is locked in that world. So, although I have a way to avoid going to that world, in order to retrieve Yufei's soul, I have no choice but to stay there as the prime minister..."

Xu Lie placed his cool hand on my forehead, shook his head and sighed, "You clearly don't have a fever, so why are you talking nonsense?"

Ah—. I sighed dejectedly and said, "I knew you wouldn't believe me."

"You!" Xu Lie smiled helplessly, reached out and hugged me, smoothing my wet hair, "You're always daydreaming like this, you're such a child who never grows up."

"I didn't!" I raised my head in his arms and protested, "Lie, you... sob..."

Xu Lie suddenly lowered his head and captured my lips, sucking them deeply, while his other hand deftly unbuttoned my already undone nightgown. I rested my head on my hair, against his large, warm hand, and said in a hoarse voice, "My hair... is wet..."

"It's okay... it'll be done in a bit." He rolled over, gently pinning me beneath him, his burning kisses landing on my neck, his low, husky voice whispering in my ear, "Instead of thinking about that, you should think about how to please your husband..."

My face flushed bright red, and I reached into his open shirt, pressing my hand against his burning skin, while murmuring, "Lie... how could you say such a thing... are you sure you... aren't an imposter?"

A deep laugh emanated from Xu Lie's chest. He leaned down and nibbled on my earlobe, whispering in a husky, suggestive voice, "Why don't you verify it for yourself and you'll know..."

After that, the room was filled with enchanting beauty and a warm, harmonious atmosphere.

That night, I didn't return to the ancient world at all, probably because the clouds blocked the moonlight. The next day, I went to school in high spirits. Before leaving, Mom handed me a file folder and told me to take it to Xu Lie at the company, with a knowing smile on her face that made me want to disappear into a hole. When I left, Wei Ye was already waiting at the door. Lao Lin's car took us all the way to Xu Tian Building, and then we waited quietly in the parking lot by the fountain.

Wei Ye and I walked into the building laughing, but before we'd taken two steps past the entrance, we were stopped by security. I had no choice but to call Xu Lie. After hanging up, Wei Ye looked at me with disdain: "You call yourself Mrs. Xu?"

My face flushed, and I lowered my head, saying, "Because I've never been here before."

Wei Ye frowned: "Is your husband really like the rumors say, treating you very badly?"

"How...how could this be!" I shook my head repeatedly, but before I could speak, I heard a familiar female voice call my name, "Lanlan." I turned around in surprise, then couldn't help but smile broadly, rushing forward to her and saying with a smile, "Yingying, what are you doing here?"

The security guard who had been blocking my way quickly stepped aside and said respectfully, "Manager Fan."

My eyes widened in surprise, and I looked at her with admiration: "Yingying, you're amazing! You've only been out of school for a year, and you're already a manager?!"

Yingying smiled modestly, but deep in her eyes she truly radiated pride. She patted my head and laughed, "You're just a junior marketing manager for a project, what's there to brag about? You, on the other hand, are always like a child."

I lowered my head shyly, but couldn't help looking up again to ask, "But Yingying, when did you join Xu Tian's company?"

"About a month ago," Yingying replied casually, seemingly unwilling to elaborate. Her lips, glossy and full with pink lip gloss, were slightly upturned, exuding a charming, ambiguous smile. Her eyes, both affectionate and indifferent, left me stunned. Yingying... she's become so beautiful!

"Galan!" Xu Lie's voice came from the elevator door, helpless yet tinged with anger.

I flinched, watching him slowly approach, and stammered, "Mom asked me to bring the documents to you." As I spoke, I quickly turned around and took the document bag from Wei Ye, who was staring blankly at Xu Lie, and handed it to him, adding nervously, "I didn't come here on purpose to embarrass you."

The security guards and the receptionist rushed over and bowed to him, saying, "Mr. Xu."

Xu Lie remained indifferent and ignored them. He pointed at me and said coldly, "Remember, she is Mrs. Xu. If you see her loitering around the company, bring her to my office."

"Huh—?" I stared wide-eyed. The security guards and receptionists were probably just as wide-eyed as I was. Wei Ye, on the other hand, chuckled. Her previous curiosity and hostility towards Xu Lie seemed to vanish instantly.

After everyone had left and only the four of us were left, Xu Lie pulled me in front of him, looked me up and down, and said irritably, "Do you think I'm like you? Leaving things lying around. You don't even know you've been tricked by Mom."

I smiled and happily rushed forward to throw myself into his arms, saying, "But I'm willing to be played, otherwise how could I see you?"

"Hey!" Xu Lie's body stiffened, receiving stares and good-natured laughter from all directions, his ears even turning slightly red. But he didn't push me away, instead gently putting his arm around me, his tone filled with unspeakable helplessness yet hiding a faint smile: "Galan, do you really have to let your husband lose all his authority at the company?"

I gasped and released him, my face flushed. When I met Wei Ye and Ying Ying's gazes, my chin nearly dropped to my chest.

Xu Lie came down when the car had only gone halfway, so he hurried up, only telling me to be careful. Yingying watched his back, a slight smile playing on her lips, her captivating peach blossom eyes turning back to me and gently sweeping over me. After a long while, she sighed and said, "Galan, you are lucky."

I was taken aback. I felt that Yingying's tone was strange, as if she was envious, self-deprecating, and mixed with some emotions that I couldn't figure out.
