Chapitre 164

Zhao Xiyin came out half an hour later.

Meng Weixi was sitting on a chair in the corridor when she saw her stand up.

Zhao Xiyin was slightly surprised, "You didn't leave?"

Meng Weixi nodded. "Zhang Yijie's leg is not good, so he's going to see a doctor on the way. I'll wait for him."

Zhao Xiyin believed him and didn't bother to discern whether his words were true or false.

"How did the talk with Su Ying go?" he asked.

"That's good." Zhao Xiyin smiled knowingly. "I apologized, reflected on my actions, and promised never to send mangoes again. Later, Teacher Su told me that she likes to eat watermelon."

Meng Weixi smiled as well.

Zhao Xiyin looked up and said sincerely, "Thank you for helping me connect this wire today."

"It's nothing." Meng Weixi's smile faded, perhaps because she found the "thank you" jarring, distant, and like that of a stranger.

Zhao Xiyin took a step to leave, but Meng Weixi stopped her, "Where are you going?"

"go home."

"I'm going that way anyway, I'll give you a ride."

Zhao Xiyin seemed unwilling to expose his lie, feeling a slight bitterness in her heart, and then said to him, "Meng Weixi, I misunderstood you last time, I'm sorry."

Zhou Qishen was stabbed, and she initially thought he was the culprit. The two had a huge argument on the roadside, their words filled with hurtful remarks aimed at each other. Zhao Xiyin was blinded by concern, but it was all for another man.

Between them, only old feelings remain; the past is gone.

Later, he went to Europe and immersed himself in work to try to minimize these effects. Then, when he heard the news again, the so-called heartache was just another repetition.

When they met again, Meng Weixi was much calmer, but in reality, there was no greater sorrow than a broken heart, and no greater grief than silence. Perhaps after so many years of struggle, knowing that there was no hope of turning things around, he still persevered tirelessly, his dream never fading.

The two walked side by side towards the exit. The corridor was long, brightly lit, and filled with the smell of disinfectant.

As he got closer to the door, Meng Weixi slowed his pace. Finally, he couldn't help but ask, "You and Zhou Qishen have made up, haven't you?"

He asked a question, but he answered it in a straightforward manner, as if he already had the answer in his mind but was still unwilling to give up.

Zhao Xiyin nodded. "Mm."

Neither of them spoke again.

Meng Weixi breathed lightly, his expression was calm, and he stood still, his demeanor detached. He didn't pressure her, protest, or try to win her over; he didn't even glance at her, his gaze falling deeply and vacantly on a certain spot.

After a long pause, he turned his head and said in a low voice, "Xiao west, let's go."

Upon reaching the steps, Meng Weixi walked slightly ahead, even taking out his car keys and flashing the hazard lights; his car was parked not far away. Zhao Xiyin said, "Meng Weixi, I can walk by myself."

Meng Weixi turned her head to the side, her tone leaving no room for argument, "It's too late, I'll take you home."

Zhao Xiyin shook her head. "It's not late, there's still the subway."

Her intention to avoid suspicion was quite obvious, and that "thank you" again—each "thank you" became the perfect weapon to destroy Meng Weixi. His chest ached, and his body swayed, as if he were standing on cotton, not the ground. He sank in, unable to stand, and almost fell.

A cold wind blows, the moon and stars are lonely; tomorrow should be a good day.

Meng Weixi composed herself and smiled calmly and gently, "Alright, I won't force you."

The heavy burden on Zhao Xiyin's shoulders instantly lifted, and her smile remained focused. "Then drive safely, goodbye."

Just as he finished speaking, two urgent horns sounded.

The two instinctively looked in the same direction and saw a black Maybach parked at the intersection. The rear window rolled down, revealing Zhou Qishen's handsome profile. His phoenix eyes were raised, and he looked at Meng Weixi with a half-smile.

Their eyes met, and tension was palpable.

Zhou Qishen, however, shifted his gaze back to Zhao Xiyin with a hint of displeasure and said in a deep voice, "Xiao west, get in the car."

Out of politeness, Zhao Xiyin said to Meng Weixi, "I'm leaving."

"good."

As soon as she got into the car and the door closed, Zhou Qishen told the driver to start the car.

Turning out of the hospital and merging from the auxiliary road onto the main road, the car lights flickered on and off. Zhou Qishen sat there, his face expressionless, not uttering a word. Zhao Xiyin also appeared composed, legs crossed, leaning against the car door, playing with her phone.

As they passed under the Jingguang Bridge, Zhou Qishen finally couldn't help but turn to look at her, saying, "Don't look at your phone while riding in the car, it'll make you dizzy."

Zhao Xiyin didn't respond, but she still obediently turned off the screen.

Zhou Qishen hesitated, his mind preoccupied with something, yet also burdened by concerns. The words lingered in his throat, causing him considerable discomfort.

Zhao Xiyin, with her eyes closed, naturally asked, "Why did you go to the hospital?"

"happen."

Lying without thinking.

Zhao Xiyin didn't bother to expose her, and simply said, "Oh, have you eaten yet?"

"I ate." Zhou Qishen turned his head. "Who did you eat with?"

He didn't ask her if she had eaten; instead, he asked who she had eaten with.
