Kann nicht atmen - Kapitel 9
She suddenly realized there was someone else in her arms. A small figure was sitting on her lap, and the figure's head was resting on the computer desk, making it difficult to see clearly.
Many people who love children like to hold them close to their chests like this, and Qin Jin also loves children, but this time, she was so frightened she stopped breathing. She quickly looked down, but there was nothing in her arms. Looking at the computer screen again, the mirror clearly showed two people.
The little boy had probably noticed Qin Jin was looking for him and suddenly started crying—the kind of crying a child makes in a train carriage. Good heavens! A chill ran down Qin Jin's spine. But Hei Bao hadn't come over yet. Where had Hei Bao gone?
She turned her head and saw Hei Bao crouching on the windowsill, ready to fight as he looked out the window. There was something outside, and Hei Bao was no longer paying attention to her. Her breath almost stopped, and the child's cries reached her ears.
She couldn't move. She wanted to stand up, but her legs were too weak.
The child slowly raised his head.
She stared at the computer mirror. A face appeared, eyes appeared, blood gushed everywhere. The three or four-year-old child had no eyeballs at all; his eyes had been gouged out. Blood dripped down his small face, all onto Qin Jin's hands.
Overwhelmed with panic, Qin Jin could only look at the child. She saw the child in the mirror slowly turn its neck—yes, a 360-degree angle—its body remaining still, its face now facing Qin Jin. The ghostly doll spoke: "Sister, waah, my eyes hurt so much! Please give me your eyes, okay?"
Then the body slowly moved upwards, its face facing Qin Jin. Qin Jin no longer needed to see it through the reflection on the computer screen; the ghost doll's face was now right in front of him, its blood-stained tongue sticking out, trying to lick Qin Jin's eyes.
"Sister, I want my eyes!"
As the face drew closer, Qin Jin felt a surge of despair. She closed her eyes, letting the wet tongue brush against her eyelids.
When a person is in utter despair, their mind becomes completely blank, and they stop thinking about anything.
My eyelids started to hurt; it seemed that the ghost doll was about to make its move.
Just then, all the pressure suddenly eased, the long-lost light shone on her face, and her cold limbs came back to life.
She saw a person floating in mid-air on the other end of the computer screen.
Upon seeing that person, a hint of surprise appeared in her eyes.
It was Ke Dao, Ke Liang's grandfather. He clasped his hands together, forming a talisman in front of his chest, and waved his hand with a cool air. He was the one who drove away the little ghost and saved Qin Jin.
He slowly floated closer and called out affectionately to Qin Jin, "Junior Sister! It's so good to see you!"
"Grandpa, I'm not a junior sister."
No one would feel comfortable calling a young and handsome man like Ke Liang "grandpa." But this handsome grandpa's eyes even had a slightly lecherous look in them. Like grandfather, like grandson—just like Ke Liang—Qin Jin felt a surge of anger.
"Junior sister, do you still blame your senior brother? When you left us before, Master and I were very sad. We never blamed you. Why did you leave?"
Qin Jin thought helplessly, "Could it be that even ghosts can become mentally ill?"
“Junior sister, I can only appear in the mortal realm once a day, and I can only stay for three minutes each time. I just arrived and saw that you were in such danger. Tell me what happened to you.”
Qin Jin told her grandfather about everything that had happened to her, and the three minutes were almost up. As her grandfather disappeared, he said, "Go to the biggest library here and find a book called 'The Complete Book of Curses.' Find Ka Beng; the answer is there. You must go, but be careful, be very careful. You're in danger. Wherever you go, stay with Ke Liang, understand?"
Grandpa finally disappeared.
Qin Jin stuck out her tongue. Wasn't three minutes of appearance time a day too little?
She had a hard time sleeping that night, but she was so exhausted that she finally fell asleep. Hei Bao stayed by her side.
As soon as it was light, she ran to find Ke Liang and called him. Ke Liang's pitiful voice came through the phone. "Qin Jin, wait for me at home, I'll be there in a bit."
The doorbell rang after a long time. Ke Liang came running in, barely clothed and panting, as if he were being chased by a vicious dog.
"What happened?"
"My mom! She put so many cats in front of the door. When I rushed out, I almost had an allergic reaction to the cats. She's so ruthless. She thought she could keep me at home with this trick. Haha, I still managed to break out."
Qin Jin was secretly moved when she saw him covered in sweat.
After explaining the situation, the two of them ran towards the library.
The city's library is usually located in a remote corner of the city. The two drove there, and Qin Jin saw from the side that Ke Liang had a bright red five-finger mark on his face and a shiny earring next to the mark.
"Did your mom hit you? And you're wearing your grandpa's earring?"
"My mom uses me as a punching bag all the time, I'm used to it. Yeah, these earrings are really cool, don't I look handsome wearing them now?"
Qin Jin smiled, thinking of that silly young grandfather who always called her "Junior Sister".
"Did your grandfather have a female junior disciple?"
"How would I know? But my grandfather was a famous Taoist master, and their sect was huge back in the day."
Ke Liang started indulging in self-admiration again, while Qin Jin made a vomiting face. The two no longer harbored the initial dislike and hostility towards each other, although they still bickered from time to time.
After parking the car, the library seemed deserted, with almost no one around. Qin Jin huddled closer and said, "Why is it so cold here?"
Ke Liang immediately took Hei Bao out and placed it in Qin Jin's arms.
The two walked very close together, step by step, towards the second floor of the library, where the rare documents reading room was located.
It seems everyone likes precious things, except for books. The reading room was eerily quiet, with only two chattering librarians knitting at a table. They didn't ask them anything when they came in, letting them just flash their IDs and go inside.
The two searched the bookshelves separately, but Qin Jin kept feeling that the atmosphere of the library was very unusual, with an indescribable strangeness. The two librarians were also strange, their voices always hovering around his ears.
There are many books, including geography books, ancient books, and commentaries on modern novels, but I just can't find the one I want, "The Complete Book of Curses".
Just as I was about to ask the manager, I heard the sound of high heels approaching. Could it be the manager coming? Perfect, I could ask him. But suddenly, Blackie became terrified, its fur stood on end, and it made a whimpering sound.
Qin Jin was a seasoned veteran and knew something was wrong. He slowly peered through the bookshelf at the source of the sound. He saw nothing but a hand holding a handful of water darts, with blood still dripping from the tip of the blade.
Qin Jin muttered "It's over" to himself and slowly backed away while holding the cat, without making a sound.
The sound disappeared, and through the bookshelf, one could see the hand turning around, as if it couldn't find its way. Qin Jin took off her shoes and walked barefoot on the cold floor, quietly and slowly backing away.
This isn't a ghost; if it were, it would have already attacked.
This is a person, no, to be precise, a person possessed by a ghost.
The only option was to inform Ke Liang to leave this horrible library.
As she retreated, dodging the bleeding blade, she continued searching for Ke Liang. At that moment, she had only one thought in her mind: to call Ke Liang and run away together.
Finally, she saw Ke Liang. He was sitting at the front table reading a book. She didn't dare make a sound, so she rushed forward. Almost there! Finally, she saw clearly that there was another person beside Ke Liang—another librarian. The woman's hair was disheveled, and she was covered in blood. The blood on the woman's knife must be hers!
But what is she playing with in her hands?
Eyeballs, yes, a pair of eyeballs, the pupils staring at Qin Jin strangely, but what terrified Qin Jin even more was the shape of her fingernails.
It was Lan Qi. This woman was Lan Qi, sitting next to Ke Liang. Was she going to kill Ke Liang? But Ke Liang seemed completely oblivious; he was engrossed in his book. She couldn't worry about that now. She was about to shout, but the sound of high heels rang out again. The woman with the knife was rushing towards them. Would shouting now alert Lan Qi? Would it hurt Ke Liang? She hardened her heart and tossed Hei Bao over, throwing it towards Ke Liang.
Hei Bao could at least protect Ke Liang, while he himself turned and ran behind the bookshelf to distract the sound of high heels.
The air around her felt oppressive; her only protective talisman, Black Treasure, was gone. This time, she was surely doomed. "Grandpa, no, Grandpa can't save me now, because he can only appear for three minutes a day, and he won't be here today."
What should Ke Liang do? If she dies, will Ke Liang die too? Now her heart is filled with regret. She shouldn't have listened to her grandfather and called Ke Liang. Her grandfather never expected that the ghost could control a person and possess them!
Suddenly a sound came from the end of the road. It was a child's voice.
Was it the little child who asked her for her eyes last night? She didn't have time to think anymore and immediately changed direction, but the sound of high heels pounded into her heart with each step.
Ke Liang, Ke Liang, wake up quickly! This reading room is surrounded by ghostly energy! Run!
It was too late; the supervisor behind her was getting closer and closer. There was no way forward. There was a row of cabinets; she had no choice but to hide inside. She randomly pulled open a cabinet; it was quite spacious inside, and Qin Jin hid inside.
The sound of high heels slowly stopped, as if searching for itself, slowly pacing back and forth.
Qin Jin was now devoid of thought, only hoping that Ke Liang could escape. She knew she couldn't escape herself, so she could only huddle in a corner of the cabinet, trying not to breathe and not to disturb her.
The child's crying was getting closer and closer, and the cabinet door was about to open to theirs.
Her eyes were closed, her high heels had stopped at the door of her cabinet, and her hand had touched the cabinet handle.
Just then, she felt a cold hand reach out from the closet, gently take her hand, and pull her inside. It turned out that the back of the closet was empty, leading to another room, and her mouth was already covered.
The moment the cabinet door was pulled open, she was dragged into another room behind the cabinet by that hand.

Chapter Thirteen: Borrowing Books (1)
Qin Jin was pulled into another room, by which time she was too frightened to make a sound. Looking closer, she saw an old man, gaunt and with silvery-white hair. He tightly covered her mouth, signaling her to be quiet, then gently listened to the sounds against the wall before slowly pulling Qin Jin away. Qin Jin refused; Ke Liang was still inside.
“He’s fine. He’s protected by the Crimson Ring; nothing can hurt him,” the old man said, as if he could read her mind.
"Hurry, if they catch up, I can't fight them. Quick, while they're still restrained by the Crimson Rings."
Qin Jin had no choice but to struggle to his feet and flee for his life after the old man. All he saw along the way were dead bodies; at first, he hadn't seen anything at all.
This place has long been controlled by that female ghost; she's just waiting for me to walk right into her trap.
Qin Jin stumbled and fell out of the haunted library through the small staircase at the back door. She realized it was already dark, and the library's timeline was distorted; it felt like only a short time had passed inside, yet a great deal of time had gone by.
She accidentally entered another dimension, where time, people, and scenery were different from those in her own world.
The old man ignored her and kept walking forward.
She followed behind the old man.
"Hey, is he really alright?"
"You mean your lover? Of course he's fine. He's a descendant of the Ke family and has the Ke family's ancestral evil-repelling red ring. Who could harm him? Even I can't get close to him."
Qin Jin felt her cheeks burning. When did Ke Liang become her lover? "Uncle, who are you!"
The old man didn't answer; he just kept walking.
The two walked one after the other, turning several corners until they arrived at a very quiet and elegant cemetery. Qin Jin felt a sense of familiarity. She suddenly remembered—it was Tang Shishi's family's private cemetery, which Shishi had once brought her to visit. It was a beautiful garden-style cemetery, where members of the Tang family were laid to rest, and this old man must be the gravedigger, Old Man Li, whom she had seen as a child. But Old Man Li already looked very old when she was a child; how come he hadn't changed at all over the years? No wonder she felt a sense of familiarity when she saw him.
Before she could think too much, the cemetery gate had already opened. Old Man Li slipped into the cemetery. The gate was very hidden, and ordinary people couldn't get in. She and Tang Shishi used to hide here to play after school. They loved the exotic flowers and plants here, and it was very peaceful. It didn't have the scary feeling of a public cemetery; instead, it was very comfortable. And Old Man Li was very kind to them.
Standing in the cemetery where she used to play as a child, thinking of the carefree days of her childhood and the happy smiles she shared with Tang Shishi under the sunlight, she finally burst into tears.
After having a good cry, I felt much better.
Old Li led her to the hut where the tomb was kept and poured her a cup of hot tea.
"Uncle, you've always lived here, how would you know what happened to me?"
"Although I am just an ordinary servant and a tomb keeper in the Tang family, I am also an elder of the Tang family. The master has been very kind to me. Before he passed away, he entrusted Shishi to me. I was fortunate enough to learn some Taoist magic in my early years. A few days ago, I saw blood and qi suddenly rising in the cemetery. I knew that something had happened in the family. When I arrived home, Shishi had already been haunted by evil spirits. Helpless, I had to use a talisman to seal her body and bring her here."
"Did you pick up Shishi?"
"Yes, I brought her to the cemetery. I didn't expect this evil spirit to be so powerful. Even the spiritual energy of so many ancestors of the Tang family couldn't subdue her. I had no choice but to ask the Ke family to come forward and save Shishi. When I chased the descendants of the Ke family to the town, I ran into you again."
Qin Jin became excited: "That day in the deep hall of the Hu family in the small town, was it you who saved me?"
