Kapitel 12

"Back then, Helen asked to propose breaking off the engagement to save face, but in reality, she was just buying time to get rid of Wawa. After Wawa was forced to leave, she would not have agreed to break off the engagement if I hadn't insisted."

“I knew Helen loved Joel deeply, but I never expected her to do this,” Mary sighed.

“I’ve always felt sorry for Helen,” Rosanne sighed, her brow furrowed. “Although Joel insisted on breaking off the engagement, she’s still waiting for him to change his mind. Such devotion is truly pitiful, but I never expected her to…” She shook her head. “It’s really despicable!” “Alright, I think we all understand in our hearts, there’s no need to talk about her anymore.” Since learning the truth, Joel, who was already disgusted by Helen’s obsession, felt even more resentful. Although he wouldn’t retaliate because their families were old friends, he didn’t want to see her again, or even hear any news about her.

"Yes, yes, let's stop talking about her and talk about your wedding. Has the date been decided yet?" This was what Mary was most interested in.

"To avoid any unforeseen complications, I plan to abduct the child and get a notarized marriage within one or two weeks."

“How can that be? How can the Rox family’s wedding be handled so hastily? No way!” Mary immediately objected. “Give me at least a month, I promise…” Joel quickly interrupted her. “Mom, it’s already ten years late. I don’t want to delay any longer. A week is too long, let alone a month. Think about it, if something goes wrong again, your precious grandson might be gone again.”

Mary gasped and quickly hugged her precious grandson tightly. "No, no one can take my precious grandson away!"

Du Yunhao patted his arm, which was tightly wrapped around him, in a comforting gesture.

"That's it. Once I get married to the baby, your grandson won't be able to escape."

“How about this, Joel and Sisi should go to the notary office to officially become husband and wife. Mom can then take her time to prepare, and then hold a grand wedding to publicly announce Sisi’s status. I think she’s suffered so much and endured so much hardship, she’ll definitely want a formal ceremony, as a kind of compensation!” Shana interjected.

Joel shrugged indifferently. "Fine, anyway, Doll and I definitely need to get it notarized first, the rest is up to you. Speaking of compensation, I plan to take Doll on a trip after the notarization, but I don't want to interfere with Jay's studies, so I'd like Jay to stay here temporarily..."

“No need for temporary, let him stay here. You two can enjoy your time together. When Xixi has another child, you might want to move back in. There are plenty of people at home who can help take care of her, so you can feel more at ease. As for Jay, he's mine, he'll stay here!” Mary made the first move to take him away.

Joel smiled. "As long as Jay doesn't object, Doll agrees too."

Du Yunhao made a face. "I don't want to be a third wheel, watching you all being affectionate is disgusting!" Everyone laughed at his antics.

Joel turned to David and Philip, saying, "You two should laugh while you can, or you won't be able to laugh later."

The two of them exchanged a glance, then turned back to Joel and pointed to their noses questioningly.

Joel nodded. "Yes, it's you two. Since I'm taking the doll out, the company will be temporarily in your hands."

Two screams rang out at the same time.

"But Princess Chris..."

“You can make the arrangements. Shana won’t object, will she? This is official business.” Joel looked at Shana.

Shana smiled generously.

David glanced at Shana as well. "Also, President An Ting of Jing Department Store hopes to discuss the contract details with you personally."

"This is also official business; you're in charge."

David glanced at Shana again. "The president of the Weihan Group personally called to invite you to his only daughter's birthday party, and even specified that you should be her dance partner that day. It's hard to refuse."

Joel considered it for a moment. "Philip, you go!"

"What? Me? Are you kidding me? Why am I the one going? Wasn't it supposed to be you?"

“I’m busy, I’m getting married, have you forgotten?” Joel glanced at his son, then looked at his mother. “Right? Mom.”

“That’s right, your older brother will be very busy, so you go!” Mary hugged her grandson tightly again.

"Why not David?" Ignoring David's gaze, which shot towards him like a killer laser beam, Philip asked unwillingly.

"Because this is a social engagement, you will be responsible for all company-related social engagements from now on."

"Oh my God!" Philip's voice was filled with despair.

Everyone was amused by his appearance, especially David, whose gloating laughter was the loudest.

Rosanne suddenly stopped laughing as if she had just remembered something. "Oh right, I almost forgot. Helen called the day before yesterday afternoon and said that her business trip was over and she would be coming to my house in a couple of days... well, to visit."

Upon hearing this, all the laughter stopped abruptly, and Joel frowned deeply.

Mary glanced nervously at Joe. "What...what's she doing here?"

“Mom, this is her habit, haven’t you forgotten? She always goes home for a few days after returning from a business trip, and then comes to stay with us until her next business trip. She even insists on staying next to Joel’s room,” Rosanne reminded her mother.

“Oh, right, when Joel insisted on breaking off the engagement, Helen’s parents were very understanding, so I agreed to Helen’s request out of remorse. But now…” Mary hesitated. “Okay, Rosanne, you and I will go to Helen’s house tomorrow. I will talk to her parents. As for Helen, I will leave her to you. You young people are better at communicating.”

"Mom, I can't do it alone! You know her personality, how can I handle it by myself? For the past ten years, Joel hasn't lived at home at all, but she still keeps coming home, which shows how persistent she is. How can I persuade her by myself?"

“I’ll go with you. Two people are better than one. If that doesn’t work…” Shana hesitated for a moment. “Everyone, be careful not to let any word slip before Joel’s wedding, otherwise Helen might pull some tricks. Once Joel is married, everything will be set in stone, and she won’t be able to do anything about it.”

Shana is meticulous and thoughtful.

"Also, if Mom wants to plan a big wedding, it's best to wait until Joel has completed the notarization process before starting. Also..."

The group huddled together nervously to study and discuss the matter, while Joel, the person in question, was so tired that he slumped in his dining chair and dozed off.

Chapter Five: Threads of Love Author: Yu Xin

The next day, Yuan Ling and Du Yungang were constantly exchanging messages via radio on either side of the dining chairs at the Du family's house. From the moment she sat down at the breakfast table, Sisi absentmindedly used her chopsticks to mash the preserved egg and tofu into a clump of mush. Sometimes her brows furrowed in deep regret, sometimes she beamed with uncontrollable joy, and finally her eyes were filled with tenderness and shyness. Yuan Ling was on tenterhooks, worried that Sisi might be driven crazy by the company.

Yuan Ling cleared her throat first, then called out cautiously, "Sisi... Sisi..." Seeing that Sisi was still smiling foolishly, she finally couldn't help herself and slammed her hands on the table. With a bang, all the bowls and plates on the table jumped up, and Sisi, who was lost in her own world, also jumped up.

"What's wrong? Is there a fire?" Seeing her friend and son looking at her with amused expressions, she sat back down, embarrassed. "Why aren't you eating? Everyone, eat up!" she stammered. Yuan Ling pointed at the preserved egg and tofu with her chopsticks. "Eat that pile of shit?"
