The predecessor of Ishchensk College was a nursing school established in the 1920s by a Swiss doctor named Denangel. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, Denangel went back to his country to avoid the war. The students left behind suffered greatly from the war, with most of them dying or being injured. However, the campus was miraculously preserved after the baptism of war.
After the war, the campus fell into disrepair. Waist-high weeds grew along the roads, not a single window remained intact in the buildings, and dust filled the rooms, with cobwebs hanging from the corners. Even during the day, entering the campus sent chills down one's spine, a truly eerie feeling. Soon, rumors of ghosts began to circulate; some claimed to have seen a nurse, brutally murdered by Japanese soldiers, wandering the campus. Locals became even more afraid to approach the school. Three homeless men spent the night on campus. The next morning, people found them at the school gate, their faces contorted in horror, their bodies curled up in a ball, already stiff with death. The autopsy revealed the cause of death was simple—they had been terrified.
The campus remained deserted until twenty years ago, when the Xia Group, the largest conglomerate in the country, acquired the land at an extremely low price. After having a Taoist priest perform forty-nine rituals, construction began on the site of the nursing school, and the original European-style buildings were all preserved, with only necessary facilities such as dormitories and a canteen added. A year later, Yishi College began enrolling students.
Today, Yishi Academy has become a nationally renowned private elite school. Its teaching quality ranks first in the country, and it's said that admission guarantees a bright future. However, the students here are all children of the wealthy; the exorbitant tuition fees exclude ordinary people. Strangely enough, while the children of the rich are often unruly and difficult to manage, even the most difficult children, after studying at Yishi Academy for a period of time, transform into diligent, studious, and obedient students. No one can explain how this transformation occurs.
As the saying goes, things that are nearly a century old are considered dangerous. The buildings from the nursing school era are now close to a century old. By this time, these old buildings have undergone countless renovations. While they may look sleek on the outside, the interiors are rotten and decaying, with sunken floors and leaky pipes.
Stepping into the building, a chilling wind immediately hits you. No matter where you go, you feel like an eye is watching you from behind. Occasionally, a sigh can be heard from a dark corner, sending shivers down your spine. Even the bravest students dare not linger alone in the old building. After class, the students leave the old building as quickly as possible, leaving empty classrooms and corridors. Students have repeatedly complained to the school, demanding that the old building be demolished and a new one built. Some parents have even offered to fund the construction, but the school has made no response, and the matter has ultimately been left unresolved.
We know that light and darkness cannot coexist, and behind every honor in a school lies a multitude of unspeakable sins. Horror stories abound in any school, and Yishi Academy is no exception. Among the tales passed down among students, the most eerie is undoubtedly the Horror Archive. No student has ever seen it, yet all believe in its existence. Legend has it that the Horror Archive records all the terrifying and bizarre events that have occurred at Yishi Academy, from the ghost nurse at the school's founding to the recent insect mutation incident—all are documented within its pages. If you can find the Horror Archive, you hold the key to the darkest and most terrifying aspects of Yishi Academy. Of course, no student has ever lived to see this Horror Archive.
Students had even spontaneously searched for the "horror file," scouring every corner of the school without finding it, or even a single useful clue. Then one day, a student named Tang Ying claimed to have found it. That evening, students saw him staggering down the corridor of an old building, blood gushing from his eyes like a fountain. After that, no one saw Tang Ying again; he seemed to have vanished into thin air. The school's explanation was that Tang Ying couldn't bear the immense academic pressure and ran away from home.
Ishi Academy also has a bizarre school rule: "No student may tell anyone outside the academy what happens within the academy. Violators will be punished..." Although the punishment for violators is not specified, all students strictly abide by this rule because the consequence of breaking it is death—a bizarre death! Once, a student forgot this rule and told his father, a high-ranking police officer, about something that happened on campus after school. This student never came to school again. The next morning, the cleaning staff found the father and son dead in their respective bedrooms, their deaths bizarre. There were no wounds on their bodies, and their mouths were curved upwards, with a sinister smile on their faces. The police thoroughly examined the bodies but could not find the cause of death. The deceased appeared perfectly normal, as if they had been smiling for a moment, and then stopped breathing. The school has never explained this rule, and students naturally dare not ask. Legend has it that a detailed explanation of this rule is found in the "Terror Archives." Because of this rule, it is very difficult for outsiders to know the true situation within the academy.
Despite how terrifying Yishi Academy is, every year many parents still spend a lot of money to send their precious children to Yishi Academy so that they can have a bright future.
And so, Yishi Academy ushered in a new beginning.
001 Transfer Student
It was a self-study period. Luo Shimin was lying on the table reading a magazine, drooling over a picture of a handsome man. Her eyes were red hearts, drool was dripping from the corner of her mouth, and she was muttering, "God, he's so handsome, how can anyone live like this? I wish I could snatch him home and make him my husband."
Just then, a crumpled piece of paper hit her on the head, shattering her sweet dream. She looked around angrily and shouted, "Who dares to hit your grandma with a crumpled piece of paper? Do they want to die?" The classmate who was quietly reading was startled, and the slightly more timid one was so frightened that he fell off his chair and landed on his bottom on the ground.
Luo Shimin's best friend, Hu Rongrong, covered her face with her hands and slammed her head against the table. After slamming it twice, she stood up, waved to the angry Luo Shimin, pointed to herself, and then pointed to the crumpled paper on the ground.
Luo Shimin understood; it wasn't someone throwing paper at her, but a note passed to her by her best friend.
"What are you looking at? Look again and I'll gouge your eyes out! Get back to your books!" After shouting, Luo Shimin saw all the students buried in their books before bending down to pick up the crumpled paper from the ground. Even among the wealthy, there are different classes. Luo Shimin belonged to the shady side of the rich—the so-called underworld. The fact that she was able to get into Yishi Academy showed just how corrupt her father was.
Upon opening the crumpled paper, one could see the words scrawled on it: "I heard a student transferred to our college and was assigned to our class. He's a super handsome guy, an absolute heartthrob." Birds of a feather flock together, and as Luo Shimin's best friend, Hu Rongrong was also a huge fangirl. Their greatest hobby was wandering around the campus after class looking for handsome guys.
After reading the note, Luo Shimin chuckled. Everyone in the class sat in pairs, except for the seat next to her, which was empty. The reason was simple: no one dared to sit next to her. After scaring away countless classmates, she was left sitting alone. If Hu Rongrong's information was accurate, the handsome guy would have no choice but to sit next to her. Luo Shimin's lips curled into a wicked smile. She wrote on the note in even more slanted handwriting, "Your information is 100% reliable?" She crumpled the note into a ball, aimed at Hu Rongrong's head, and threw it.
Hu Rongrong was happily rocking back and forth on her chair, her legs crossed, when she vaguely heard a whooshing sound behind her. Turning around, she saw a crumpled piece of paper hit her right eye with a thud, and Hu Rongrong fell to the ground along with the chair. Luo Shimin only wanted a small act of revenge, but she didn't expect it to be so serious. She covered her eye, unable to look anymore.
A minute later, Hu Rongrong struggled to her feet, straightened her chair, and glared at Luo Shimin with a fierce look, as if to say, "You're ruthless!" After catching her breath, Hu Rongrong unfolded the crumpled paper and wrote on it, "I heard it from Director Wang in the Academic Affairs Office. It's 100% reliable." After writing that, she crumpled it up and threw it at Luo Shimin's head.
This time she missed her target, but Luo Shimin was prepared; she saw everything through her fingers. After receiving confirmation, Luo Shimin smiled brightly at her best friend and began to dress herself in front of the mirror, trying to make herself look like a lady. This was no easy task; she tried and failed repeatedly, but she persisted, firmly believing that one day God would be moved by her sincerity and bestow upon her a handsome man even more handsome than Andy Lau.
Hu Rongrong knew what she was thinking and couldn't help but laugh out loud. To be fair, Luo Shimin wasn't bad-looking; on the contrary, she was quite attractive, almost as beautiful as a fairy. Unfortunately, with a father who had a huge reputation in the underworld and an older brother who doted on her and often brought hundreds of his underlings to visit her, no one in Yishi Campus dared to pursue her.
As the self-study period was about to end, the legendary handsome transfer student still hadn't appeared, and Luo Shimin fell asleep on her desk. Just as she was sound asleep, someone tapped her, waking her from her sweet dream. "Who is it, daring to wake me from my sleep!" Luo Shimin opened her sleepy eyes and saw that the classroom was empty, with the setting sun casting a warm glow on the earth outside the window. She cursed, "I actually slept until school was over! That damn Rongrong didn't even wake me up. Just wait till I get my hands on her!" Luo Shimin wiped the drool from her mouth, stood up, stretched, and muttered to herself, "I wonder if the legendary handsome transfer student has arrived yet."
“Coming,” a cold, hellish voice replied.
Luo Shimin was startled. All the terrifying legends that had happened in the academy flooded her mind uncontrollably. Her heart clenched violently, and she stumbled backward several steps, only stopping when she bumped into the table behind her. Taking a deep breath, she noticed a boy sitting at the table next to her, his head hunched over as he read a book. He was wearing the uniform of Yishi Academy, and his long hair obscured his face. From behind, he appeared to be a handsome young man.
Was this handsome guy waiting for me? Luo Shimin felt a surge of joy. She sat back down in her chair and said in what she considered her gentlest voice, "It's nice to meet you. My name is Luo Shimin. Welcome to Yishi Academy."
The boy didn't answer, and continued reading with his head down.
This was the first time someone had dared to ignore Luo Shimin. Suppressing her anger, she stared at the boy for a long time, trying to see through his hair to make out his features. Unfortunately, his hair was too thick; she couldn't tell if he was handsome. Her gaze shifted downwards, and she saw the book he was reading. It was a strange book; the pages were all black, but the lettering was bright red, like blood.
"What kind of book is this?" Luo Shimin asked, unable to contain her curiosity.
“Fear, terror, blockage!” the boy said, enunciating each word clearly.
Luo Shimin paused for a moment, then burst out laughing. She was reading "Horror Files," a really lame joke. She began to suspect that this was some kind of scheme orchestrated by that wicked woman, Hu Rongrong. There was no handsome transfer student at all; it was all part of her plan from the start. She peered into the boy's book for a while, but couldn't understand a word. It sounded like the ramblings of a madman. She was almost certain it was Hu Rongrong playing tricks.
"Trying to scare this old lady? Not so easy." Luo Shimin chuckled and said, "If I'm not mistaken, your name is Tang Ying."
"How did you know?" The boy's tone was tinged with surprise.
Luo Shimin said confidently, "Legend has it that only Tang Ying found the Horror File. Since you say that you have the Horror File in your hand, then you must be the mysteriously missing Tang Ying."
The boy said "oh" and then fell silent.
Luo Shimin sat patiently to the side for a while, hoping Hu Rongrong would lose patience and come out. After a while, Hu Rongrong didn't appear; the boy was still intently studying the cryptic book in her hand. Luo Shimin looked out the window; the sun had already set, and darkness was gradually enveloping the earth. Luo Shimin felt a chill rapidly spreading through her. She slapped the boy, and a chill ran from her fingers straight to her heart. "Stop pretending! Tell me who you really are!"
The boy remained seated, motionless, while Luo Shimin, terrified, slumped back into her chair, her chest heaving with fear that made her feel suffocated. Indeed, the boy's body didn't move, but his head snapped ninety degrees, his face, hidden by his black hair, nearly colliding with Luo Shimin's. Luo Shimin felt a chill on her face as the boy spoke, "I really am Tang Ying."
A gentle breeze lifted the boy's hair that was covering his eyes, and Luo Shimin saw a scene that terrified her even more: the boy had five or six mouths on his face, some horizontal, some vertical, and some diagonal, revealing white teeth. Apart from his mouths, he had no other organs.
Looking at Luo Shimin felt like looking at a feast; everyone's mouth was watering.
Luo Shimin couldn't explain how she could feel like she was seeing a boy who didn't have eyes. Cold sweat poured down her forehead like raindrops. Luo Shimin closed her eyes, waved her arms, and shouted wildly, "Don't come any closer! Don't come any closer! If you dare touch me, I'll call my brother and tear you to pieces!"
In a panic, a crumpled piece of paper hit Luo Shimin on the head. Opening her eyes, a rush of blood to her head – she'd just had a nightmare. All eyes were on her. "What are you looking at? Haven't you ever seen a girl have a nightmare before?" The words left her lips, and she saw her best friend, Hu Rongrong, looking utterly miserable, banging her head against the table repeatedly.
A few coughs came from the podium.
Luo Shimin turned her head and almost fainted. Director Wang of the Academic Affairs Office was standing in front of the podium, next to a handsome young man with a somewhat cold gaze, intently staring at the floor—but he was her favorite type. The handsome man suddenly looked up at her with an expression of utter disbelief. Luo Shimin quickly wiped the drool from the corner of her mouth and flashed him her most charming smile.
She had forgotten the terrifying moments from her nightmare. Hu Rongrong rubbed her aching forehead and mouthed to Luo Shimin, "You're finished, you're out of luck." Any guy with a normal brain wouldn't like a girl who drools in her sleep and swoons over handsome guys.
Director Wang cleared his throat and said, "This is a student who has just transferred to your class this semester. Please give him a round of applause."
A round of enthusiastic applause erupted in the classroom, with Luo Shimin clapping the loudest, hoping to attract the handsome boy's attention. The aloof and handsome boy merely glanced at her before continuing to stare intently at his floor, wondering what on the floor could be so captivating to him.
Director Wang gestured for everyone to stop clapping, "Now, let's have the new student introduce themselves."
The handsome man's self-introduction was very simple, consisting of only four words: "My name is Xia Chen."
The students below whispered amongst themselves, "What a handsome guy with such a unique personality, I like him." "Did you hear that? His surname is Xia, and he was personally brought here by Director Wang. Do you think he might be from the Xia Group?" "He's so handsome, he must be even more charming when he smiles." "I want him to be my boyfriend." "Stop daydreaming, he wouldn't be interested in you, he's mine."
Director Wang once again quieted everyone down, looked around the classroom, and saw that there was only one empty seat next to Luo Shimin. He pointed and said, "Xia Chen, you can sit there for now."
Xia Chen, carrying his backpack, slowly walked over. Luo Shimin laughed wildly in her heart, "Handsome guy, you're mine." But she had to maintain her composure on her face. She smiled slightly at Xia Chen and said, "Hello." Xia Chen nodded in response.
"You can continue your self-study." Director Wang turned and walked out of the classroom.
Luo Shimin secretly observed Xia Chen. Xia Chen's profile was tall and handsome, becoming more and more captivating the more she looked. She decided in her heart that Xia Chen was her boyfriend, and she would fight anyone who tried to steal him from her.
And so the story of the horror files begins.
002 The Dark Medical Room
Luo Shimin was eager to talk to the handsome Xia Chen, but Xia Chen was engrossed in reading a book.
In order to leave a good impression on Xia Chen, she sat upright at the table, reading a book seriously, ignoring her best friend Hu Rongrong's gesticulating beside her. However, she did not turn a single page of the book on the table, but kept stealing glances at Xia Chen.
Hu Rongrong's arm ached from waving it, but Luo Shimin didn't even glance at her. She gritted her teeth and said, "You're a womanizer who values romance over friendship. How could I, Hu Rongrong, have a friend like you?"
Hu Rongrong's deskmate, Qi Xiaoke, nudged her. "Rongrong, my stomach hurts so much."
Hu Rongrong turned to look at Qi Xiaoke. Her face was as pale as paper. She was biting her lip, her innocent face contorted with pain. One hand was clutching her stomach, while the other was clenched into a fist on the table, the veins on her hand bulging. Hu Rongrong asked with concern, "What's wrong? Did your period come?"
"no.
Qi Xiaoke slowly shook her head.
Hu Rongrong then guessed, "Did you eat something bad? What did you eat today?"
Qi Xiaoke shook her head again and said with difficulty, "Yesterday I felt dizzy and heavy-headed, so I went to the infirmary and got two cold medicines. I felt much better after taking them. Today, as soon as the self-study class started, I felt a slight pain in my stomach, and now it hurts even more."
Hu Rongrong poured a glass of water for Qi Xiaoke. "Just bear with it a little longer. If it still hurts after class, I'll go to the infirmary with you." Qi Xiaoke drank half a glass of water, then lay down on the table without saying a word.
The classroom was very quiet during self-study, and the students nearby could hear their conversation clearly. Luo Shimin wasn't far away, so she naturally heard it too. She noticed that Xia Chen seemed to be paying close attention to this, and following Xia Chen's gaze, she saw Qi Xiaoke slumped over the desk.
Could it be that he likes the innocent type? Luo Shimin secretly took out a mirror and looked at herself, muttering to herself, "I'm not bad looking either, I look quite innocent."
Xia Chen stared at Qi Xiaoke for a while, then turned his head away with a furrowed brow.
Ling……
The bell rang as expected. Luo Shimin turned around and gave Xia Chen a bright smile, saying the words she had rehearsed countless times in her mind, "You're new here and not familiar with the campus, right? I can show you around." Before she could finish speaking, Xia Chen got up and left the classroom.
"This bastard thinks he can ignore my existence just because he's handsome?" Luo Shimin was on the verge of exploding. The nearby classmates felt the surging murderous aura emanating from her and kept their distance.
"Stay calm!" At the critical moment, Hu Rongrong appeared beside Luo Shimin and shook Luo Shimin's head vigorously. "You can't lose your temper now. If you lose your temper, it's all over. There will be no hope left. Be a lady, remember to be a lady. No one likes a wild girl in real life."
Luo Shimin gradually calmed down and gave Hu Rongrong a ladylike smile. "I like handsome guys with personality even more, and I won't give up."
"That's more like it, that's the Luo Shimin I know." Hu Rongrong gave a thumbs-up and pointed at Qi Xiaoke, who was still slumped over the table. "Her stomach is hurting terribly, I'm taking her to the infirmary, want to come along?"
"Do you need my help?" Luo Shimin jumped up from her chair. Born into a family of江湖 (jianghu, a term referring to the martial arts world), she was a kind-hearted person who would help anyone in need.
Hu Rongrong checked on Qi Xiaoke's condition. "Let's go together. She can't stand up. Let's carry her to the infirmary." The two of them flanked Qi Xiaoke. Qi Xiaoke's condition had worsened. She clutched her stomach tightly with both hands, her face was pale and bluish, and her lips were also a little white.
As the two reached the classroom door, Luo Shimin bumped into Xia Chen, who was about to enter. Luo Shimin quickly said, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry to have bumped into you. We need to go to the infirmary; she's very sick."
"What's wrong with her?" Xia Chen noticed immediately that Qi Xiaoke's expression was very abnormal.
“We’re not sure either. I guess it might be food poisoning.” Hu Rongrong winked at Luo Shimin, indicating that it was a good start.
"Let me help you." Xia Chen carried Qi Xiaoke on his back and rushed to the infirmary as fast as he could.
Luo Shimin looked at Xia Chen's retreating figure and said with a silly smile, "Cold on the outside but warm on the inside, I love him even more now."
Hu Rongrong gave her a push, "What are you waiting for? Hurry up and chase after them! This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so seize it!" The two of them joined hands and chased after them.
In the infirmary, Dr. Wu Tao and Nurse Luo Meihui were leisurely sipping coffee. Working in the college infirmary was a very good job; they only dealt with minor injuries and illnesses like sprains, colds, and diarrhea, with no work pressure and a generous salary. Many people dreamed of having such a job. Surprisingly, the small infirmary at Yishi College had two doctors and three nurses. Today, apart from Dr. Wu and Nurse Luo, everyone else was on break.
"Doctor, quickly check on her!" Luo Shimin was the first to rush into the medical room, her loud voice startling the doctor and nurse who were having a romantic conversation.
Xia Chen carried Qi Xiaoke in and carefully placed her on the hospital bed. Qi Xiaoke was in very bad condition; she was delirious and on the verge of falling into a coma.
Dr. Wu and Nurse Luo immediately began examining Qi Xiaoke. Seeing Xia Chen sweating profusely, Luo Shimin snatched a tissue from Hu Rongrong's hand and reached out to wipe Xia Chen's sweat.
Xia Chen took the tissue from her hand. "I'll do it myself." Luo Shimin waved her hand awkwardly in the air, as if shooing away a fly.
The examination was completed quickly, and Dr. Wu said uncertainly, "It seems to be intestinal spasm. Xiao Luo, give her an IV drip of saline solution and put a warm compress on her stomach."
Xia Chen chimed in, "Her condition doesn't seem like intestinal spasm. It would be best to take her to a major hospital for a thorough examination."
Dr. Wu gave Xia Chen a disapproving look. "Are you the doctor or am I? What do you know, you little brat?" Nurse Luo added, "If you're alright, hurry up and leave. Don't delay the doctor's treatment."
"You..." Xia Chen was so angry that he couldn't speak.
Five minutes later, Dr. Wu's method seemed to have worked. Although Qi Xiaoke hadn't fully regained consciousness, her tense expression gradually relaxed. Dr. Wu said proudly, "See? This is my medical skill."
