Die Faust zerschmettert alle Himmel und unzählige Welten - Kapitel 34
Long San reached out and turned her face back: "Then why didn't you listen to me?"
“You didn’t say I couldn’t come to see you. I was afraid you were in danger, so I brought you a sword,” Feng Ning replied. Her initial slight guilty conscience was completely dispelled by the woman who was secretly laughing again, leaving her mind only with resentment.
Long San glared at her, and she glared at the woman. In the end, Long San had no choice but to call out, "Xian'er, go and see what's going on outside?"
The woman named Xian'er smiled at Feng Ning again and gracefully walked out. As soon as the door closed, Long San reached out and turned Feng Ning's face, making her look at him: "Do you know how dangerous this is?"
“That person is in this city. You brought me here, so it’s dangerous for us to be anywhere,” Feng Ning retorted.
"The place I've arranged for you to stay is safe."
"There are so many people in the world who look alike. How can you be sure that person is real if I'm not here?"
"I have my own way of testing you. When it's time for you to meet and confirm, I will naturally let you see me."
"Is embracing a woman a way to test someone? That's certainly a good method." Feng Ning pouted so much her lips could hang an oil bottle.
Long San glared at her, and she bravely glared back. In Long San's eyes, there was an uncertain emotion in Feng Ning. He suddenly sighed, "Feng Ning, let's just be the best partners and loyal friends we are now. That's fine. Anything more would be inappropriate for either of us."
The topic changed quickly, but Feng Ning understood. She was suddenly jolted, and felt her eyes suddenly burn with tears that almost welled up. She blinked, then blinked again, and blinked hard again, finally managing to hold back the sore feeling.
“Alright, it’s settled then. Whoever likes the other is a pig!” Feng Ning emphasized the word “pig” with great force, making it resounding.
Long San gritted his teeth, reaching out to stroke her face, but before he could utter a word of comfort, Feng Ning slapped his hand away. She said, "That person is dead. What should we do next?"
Long San looked her over carefully and replied, "We have friends here who will help us investigate. We can't leave for now, so we'll stay here for a couple of days. I'll have someone bring our luggage from the inn."
Why live here?
“The most dangerous place is the safest. If the other party really came for you, then the most likely reason for killing that big man is to silence him. He knows our whereabouts and purpose. This is a murder scene, and he won't expect us to stay here. We'll leave after we've investigated the situation and confirmed it's safe.”
“Okay.” Feng Ning didn’t question or object, nor did she complain that it was a brothel and she couldn’t possibly stay there. She readily agreed, then lowered her head and stopped looking at him.
Long San stared at her glossy black hair. Seeing her like this, he felt an indescribable sadness in his heart. He reached out and stroked her hair, softly saying, "Feng Ning..."
He had barely opened his mouth when Feng Ning looked up and glared at him fiercely: "Don't you dare fall for me! It's not my fault that I'm likable. If you do fall for me, you're a pig! A big fat pig! A big stupid pig! A big silly pig! A big short pig! A big meat pig..." She shouted a string of pigs with great force, and Long San couldn't help but laugh.
"What are you laughing at! You silly pig!"
Long San's grin widened even more: "I don't know either. Every time I should be feeling down and the atmosphere is sad, you always manage to make me laugh."
Feng Ning glared at him intently, until he could no longer laugh. He simply met her eyes gently and said, "You are indeed a good girl now."
Feng Ning gritted her teeth: "He's lying."
"who."
"The person who told me that as long as I treat others with sincerity, I will be rewarded is wrong. I treat others with sincerity, but I can never undo what I have done in the past."
Her voice choked, and her eyes reddened: "I don't even know what I've done, but everyone dislikes me because of those things. Some people want to kill me, some people hate me, but no one cares about me. Sometimes I worry that I'm a bad person, sometimes I worry that I've forgotten the present, but no one cares. Long San, this is not fair to me. I'm scared, I'm really scared."
As she continued to shout, she finally couldn't hold back her tears and they fell: "Treat others sincerely, it's useless. You all remember all the bad things I did in the past. No matter how good I am now, it's useless. No one will like me." She became more and more heartbroken as she spoke, and then she burst into tears.
Long San pulled her into his arms: "Feng Ning, it's not like that."
"Exactly! You're afraid I'll like you, you're afraid I'll become clingy, so you can only take care of me like a friend, you pity me, and you treat me like a guest. That's what you mean!"
"Feng Ning, do you miss me that much?" Long San turned her face towards him and looked into her eyes.
Feng Ning pouted and said, "You are, you are."
"You know perfectly well that I am not. You know it perfectly well in your heart."
"You are, you are." Feng Ning turned her head and buried her head in his chest again, snot and tears all over him.
"If you believed me to be this way, you wouldn't treat me like this." Long San gently stroked her hair. How could he not understand the meaning behind those silly questions she asked?
“I saw it all along. You’re good to all women. You love to smile at them and be gentle with them,” Feng Ning said, her voice muffled as she buried her head in his chest.
“I’m not worried about whether they’re hungry or not, or whether they’ll have nightmares and can’t sleep…” Before he could finish, Feng Ning suddenly looked up: “You’re not allowed to like me, or you’re a pig!”
"Yes, I know," Long San actually replied. The two looked at each other, speechless. After a long while, Feng Ning rubbed her eyes and heard Long San say softly, "You've forgotten the past, and you're afraid of me when I'm a stranger. I remember the past, and I also feel lost when I'm a stranger like you."
Feng Ning imagined Long San's terrified, contorted expression and chuckled to herself. She thought about it again and again, finally realizing that Long San had a point. If she were in his position, she probably wouldn't be as magnanimous as him. She would definitely kick that annoying girl far away, let her die. And he had always treated her quite well.
She thought for a moment, then nodded: "Then it's settled, we'll get along well."
"Hmm." Long San responded. He was the one who brought it up, and it really did come to his wish, but he felt a sense of loss.
“Long San, that person wasn’t speaking the Xiao language.” Feng Ning changed the subject quickly, but Long San followed suit.
"How did you hear him speak? Does it remind you of anything?"
“I dreamt about him again yesterday. He said it was all my fault for meddling. I didn’t pay attention in the dream, but it suddenly occurred to me just now that it wasn’t Xiao Kingdom’s language, it was Xia Kingdom’s language.” Feng Ning spoke a dialect sentence naturally and fluently, startling herself. “Long San, how did I know it was Xia Kingdom’s language? Where is Xia Kingdom? How come I can speak it?”
Long San was both surprised and suspicious, but he said, "Perhaps you heard it in your dream and remembered it. Xia Kingdom and Xiao Kingdom are neighboring countries and have exchanges with each other. You may have heard others say it before. It's not surprising that I can say a few words about it."
"You've traveled all over the country, so it's not surprising you know so much. I'm a lady from a respectable family." She praised herself without any restraint, which amused Long San again. As soon as he laughed, Feng Ning couldn't help but glare at him.
Long San coughed twice and said, "I've noted what you said. I'll investigate this person's background and the connections your family has with the Xia Kingdom." Feng Ning nodded, and Long San continued, "This time you'll be obedient and won't run away again, right?"
Feng Ning looked up at him with a mournful expression. Long San said again, "I'm going out to investigate something, so I really can't take you with me. This house is clean and quiet here, so no one will bother you." He took his sword from the doorway and said, "Here, keep my sword safe. Don't leave it lying around. I treasure it very much."
Feng Ning took the sword and hugged it to her chest, feeling a little embarrassed for having carelessly tossed it aside. Long San squatted down, looking her in the eye: "I'll be back soon, okay?"
Long San left quickly, and as soon as he was gone, Feng Ning felt an emptiness beside her. She hugged his sword, sitting in the room, lost in thought, her mind a jumble of thoughts, yet also a complete blank. She didn't know how much time had passed when she faintly heard a woman's voice whispering through the door, "...She's very lively, has a big appetite, and loves to laugh..."
Feng Ning couldn't hear clearly. She stirred and realized she had fallen asleep on the table. Just as she was drifting off, she saw Long San push the door open and come in. Rubbing her eyes and her stiff face, she could tell what he wanted to say from his expression, so she quickly interjected, "I wasn't asleep. I was waiting for you. What news?"
