Oni-tsubo - Kapitel 43
Feixiao was also very happy to see Chen Kai. "Let's go back quickly and make me some chicken. I've been hiding inside a dog's belly lately and haven't eaten anything!" Her saliva was practically dripping onto the ground.
Chen Kai hurriedly took the girl who had fainted back to her dormitory, and then went home with Fei Xiao.
"He wanted to find a quiet place to cultivate, but it wouldn't be lonely, so I thought of using a living being's body! That way, I could cultivate while moving around!" Xi Man's voice sang softly in the night. "So we found Little Yellow and signed a three-month contract with it!"
Chen Kai glanced at the big dog following them; it looked just like a brown bear, yet they called it Little Yellow.
"But his strength recovered too quickly; he was discharged after only two months. We tried to find a way out. Even if you set up a barrier around a dog's belly, it's still just a dog's belly!"
"Then let's come out!" Chen Kai complained. "I'm bored by myself too!"
"It's not that easy to get out!" Fei Xiao rolled her eyes at him. "The contract isn't up yet. I can only come out if someone outside calls my name!"
“Exactly, exactly!” Ximan chimed in. “Little Huang can’t talk! We’ve decided to scare you a little, otherwise you wouldn’t dare call him by his name in front of him!”
"How could you do this!" Chen Kai thought of his recent nightmarish life, all thanks to them.
Feixiao glared at him. "It wasn't a complete waste! You actually fell for someone's trick and got tracked!"
"Who is it?" Chen Kai felt another chill run down his spine upon hearing this.
"Who else could it be?" Fei Xiao covered her mouth and chuckled. "That snake seems to have learned a thing or two about human relationships, actually finding a pretty girl to act as a puppet to get close to you!"
Chen Kai was stunned again. "You mean, you mean that girl was the one who was tracking me?" He felt a pang of disappointment. It turned out that she had approached him to find Fei Xiao's whereabouts.
"Yes, but I've already chased that puppet away. She should be back to her old self now!" Fei Xiao still had a mischievous grin on her face.
Chen Kai didn't find it funny at all. He just felt the summer night air was getting colder. It turned out that it was all just a misunderstanding, a conspiracy. The girl who had always walked beside him, as bright as the moon, was nothing more than a beautiful summer night dream.
The next day, Fei Xiao applied a little realgar, which snakes hate, to Chen Kai's body, thus ending Chen Kai's overwhelming romantic luck.
Quite a few girls started avoiding him. He looked in the mirror and saw that he was still the same ordinary, thin boy. It all seemed like a midsummer night's dream, ending so quickly.
And the enormous little yellow dog reverted to its original form, becoming a skinny little yellow dog.
“Little Huang made this deal with us!” Ximan explained to him, “It was always bullied by its own kind and longed to grow bigger and stronger, so we let it be a big dog for three months!”
"Who created that terrifying appearance?" Chen Kai asked Xi Man. The shape was even closer to the alien in horror movies. It was so creative that it would scare not only dogs but also people.
"Who else could it be?" happy Man said with a smile.
Chen Kai looked at Fei Xiao, who was lying on the sofa watching TV. It seemed that Fei Xiao had really gotten a lot of inspiration from the TV! And she even found an opportunity to put it into practice quite well.
The little yellow frog on the ground looked at Chen Kai with its bright eyes, wagging its balding little tail. Chen Kai looked at it and suddenly felt sad. He reached out and hugged it, stroking its soft fur: "We are all frogs. Even if we become princes, we will eventually be reduced back to our original form!"
Summer has ended, and the autumn wind has begun to blow, its chill waking the dreams of summer nights.
A few days later, Chen Kai began to write his first love letter ever, to a girl with long curly hair who was two years ahead of him.
"Um, what about that classmate?" Chen Kai didn't know her name and didn't know where to begin.
"Idiot! Her name is Shen Ruxing!" Du Juan reminded him from the side. How could this blockhead only know such an old-fashioned way to pursue a girl?
"Ru Xing? Ru Xing?" Chen Kai felt as if he had heard this name before, as if a long time ago, a girl as bright and beautiful as a star had also passed through his life.
"Ru Xing, it seems like I've seen you in a past life..." he thought and wrote down.
"Ugh!" Du Juan exclaimed, unable to bear it any longer. "You're making my teeth ache! Rewrite it!"
"Ru Xing, it seems like I've been looking forward to reuniting with you all my life!" This time it was from the bottom of his heart. Ever since he heard that name, an image of a girl in red, singing and dancing, had appeared before his eyes.
"Have you been watching too much of Qiong Yao's dramas?" Du Juan couldn't take it anymore and pushed him away. "I'll write it for you!"
Chen Kai stood foolishly behind her, and as her pen flowed out the words, it felt as if he had taken another step closer to the girl with bright eyes and long curly hair.
Dreams, after all, are something you have to create yourself. He had to work hard to create a beautiful autumn dream for himself.
Chapter Fourteen: Clear Water
After Feixiao returned, she busied herself with doing some strange things, such as sprinkling water everywhere and bustling around at the door.
"What are you doing?" Chen Kai was dizzy from his jumping around.
"I'm setting up a barrier!" Fei Xiao turned around and said to him mysteriously.
"What?" Chen Kai jumped up immediately. "Why did you set up that thing?" In his mind, the so-called barrier was another space. He always went in and couldn't get out. If he really set up that damn thing, how would he find his way home?
"It's alright, this is just a smokescreen to prevent others from seeing our door!" Fei Xiao said, then went back to her work.
"Feixiao!" Chen Kai looked at him, seemingly nervous and guilty. "Did you do something to offend her in the past?"
Feixiao ignored him and busied herself drawing something on the door with a brush.
Judging from his appearance, Chen Kai already had a pretty good idea of what was going on. This guy must have bullied someone in the past, and now that person had come knocking on his door, he was so scared.
That person seems quite formidable, capable of making Feixiao so nervous.
He casually touched a round ball in his arms. It was the thing Zhang Ye had given him that night. When he got home and looked at it, it was just a round stone with words written on it, nothing special at all.
However, after he held it for a long time, it changed somewhat, becoming a little transparent and turning a deep red color, but it still looked like a stone.
If danger arises, can this stone really help them? Chen Kai weighed the stone in his hand. Hmm, it's probably barely enough for self-defense. He had already given up hope.
As Chen Kai and Fei Xiao's activity range shrank, they encountered fewer strange things. Half a year passed in the blink of an eye, and everything was peaceful. Chen Kai focused on his studies during the six months and actually achieved good grades at the end of the semester.
"What does it mean to be a model student?" Feixiao asked him from the side.
"He's a student who's good at everything!" Chen Kai knew he couldn't explain it to him; it would only bring up more problems.
"Will you go to the auditorium tonight?" Feixiao asked him. "Can I go?"
Chen Kai glanced at Fei Xiao. With her long hair and those perpetually flirtatious, frivolous eyes, she probably wouldn't be able to get into the auditorium. He shook his head. "Probably not. Only students of this school can go in!"
"Oh!" Feixiao seemed quite disappointed. "Then forget it. Ximan and I originally wanted to go and see what the commotion was about! But we're not part of the excitement anyway, so it's normal that we didn't see anything!"
"I'm sorry!" Chen Kai said, lowering his head. He had no other choice.
Tonight, the school auditorium will be holding an awards ceremony for freshmen. Because of my excellent performance during my freshman year, I was awarded the title of "Three Good Student," so I am among the recipients.
It's a pity Feixiao can't come. Chen Kai looked out the window and sighed. In the blink of an eye, he was already a sophomore in college. Winter had arrived again, and the gloomy sky seemed to be suffocating. It looked like it would snow tonight.
When the awards ceremony ended, Chen Kai and his classmates went outside, and sure enough, snowflakes were falling from the sky.
"Chen Kai, there's someone waiting for you over there. Is it your friend?" It was Wang Pingping, who was chubby but was trying to lose weight and wasn't so fat anymore.
"Oh!" Chen Kai looked into the distance and saw a white figure standing in the snow.
"Feixiao!" He was overjoyed and ran out.
That figure in white with black hair, so solitary and lonely, couldn't possibly belong to anyone else. Chen Kai ran towards Fei Xiao through the falling snow, his heart filled with joy.
"Is that Chen Kai's friend?" Wang Pingping asked Du Juan, who was standing next to her.
"I think so!" Du Juan replied. "I think I first saw him when I first enrolled!"
"Oh!" Wang Pingping sighed. "I used to really like this person, but now he looks so small!"
Du Juan didn't respond. This person was a bit strange. Two years had passed, and they had all grown up, but this person was still the same as when he appeared in the corridor before, still looking like a teenager. Now, standing next to Chen Kai, they looked more like older and younger brothers.
"Feixiao! You came to wait for me?" Chen Kai happily ran over through the snow.
"Let me see it!" Fei Xiao said, snatching his certificate away. "Is this the piece of junk?" He looked at it from left to right, but it was just a red booklet, nothing special at all.
"Yes, yes! This is proof of my hard work!" Chen Kai's voice was excited. He hadn't been outside with Fei Xiao for a long time, and Fei Xiao had hardly gone out lately.
"Hehe!" Feixiao threw the certificate at him. "You're just like Zijin. He almost lost his life when he went to the capital for the imperial examination, all for the sake of having his name written on a piece of red paper!"
"Is it written down?" Chen Kai was so glad to hear him bring up the old story again, so he quickly asked.
"Him?" Feixiao chuckled. "How could that be? He did leave his name on the roster of the Kaifeng Peony Garden!"
Although Chen Kai didn't know what a peony garden was, judging from the name, it probably wasn't a good place. This Prince Jin really was someone who left people speechless.
"Isn't it all the same wherever you leave your name?" Fei Xiao said, holding her head as she walked ahead. "When a person dies, they can't take anything with them. They can't even take the things they cherished most in life, or the people they loved most, let alone any worldly gains."
"Oh!" Chen Kai responded, as he always said such discouraging things.
Feixiao walked ahead, gazing at the falling snow. "It's snowing! Maybe we'll be safer!"
Chen Kai didn't understand what he was trying to say, but he could sense that Fei Xiao was different today, though he couldn't quite put his finger on what was different. The snowflakes seemed to have created a distance between him and Fei Xiao, making it impossible for him to understand his thoughts.
It's as if a snowfall has fallen, and before anyone can even react, winter has arrived.
Chen Kai shuttled between the study room and home every day, as their final exams were approaching. Fei Xiao, on the other hand, stayed indoors due to the cold weather, eating her favorite chicken every day while snuggled in bed.
That day, Chen Kai had just finished studying and returned home. Although it was only a little past seven o'clock, it was as dark as midnight outside, with only the snow on the ground reflecting a pure white and beautiful light.
"Excuse me, could you wait a moment?" A deep male voice suddenly sounded from behind.
Chen Kai turned around and saw a boy dressed in black behind him. He looked to be about ten years old and was wearing sunglasses, which made him look much older than his age.
"Are you calling me?" Chen Kai couldn't recall ever knowing such a person.
“Yes!” the boy said, his voice deep and unusual for a teenager. “I know someone in your family. I’ve come here specifically to visit him!”
"Oh!" Chen Kai didn't seem to have heard Fei Xiao mention that he had any friends.
"Your friend's name is Feixiao, right?" the boy said. "I'll only see him once and then leave!"
Chen Kai looked at him and thought he didn't seem like a bad person. He was a handsome young man with brown hair, but he was wearing sunglasses. How could he see the road at night?
"Come with me!" Chen Kai walked ahead, as long as he wasn't allowed to enter. If he was really a suspicious person, he definitely wouldn't be able to get through their illusion-enchanted gate.
"My name is Shimizu!" the boy said, then gestured to the object in his hand, "This is my gift!"
"My name is Chen Kai!" Chen Kai introduced himself and then looked at what the man was holding. It looked like a case of mineral water, Wahaha brand. This man's gift was really strange. Who gives mineral water as a gift?
Perhaps he shouldn't have brought such a person home, Chen Kai thought as he walked, but the man's oppressive aura frightened him, and he unconsciously obeyed his words.
Chen Kai walked ahead, feeling uneasy. Now he could only pin his hopes on the door of his house; perhaps the barrier Fei Xiao had created a couple of days ago could ward off bad things.
The two remained silent. Chen Kai led the man named Qingshui home in silence. When they reached the door, he took out his key and opened it. Strangely, the door did not respond. Chen Kai breathed a long sigh of relief. It seemed that this man was not a dangerous person.
"Please come in!" Chen Kai said, pushing open the door, completely unaware that Qing Shui had left a trail of wet footprints along the way.
As soon as I opened the door, I saw Feixiao standing in the living room with a box of strawberries, which she had probably just taken out of the refrigerator. When she saw the person behind Chen Kai, her eyes widened as if she had seen something terrifying.
Looking at his expression, Chen Kai suddenly felt a strange sense of danger rising from his blood, because his back was clearly damp, as if a damp mist was being transmitted to him through the water.
"Chen Kai, come here quickly!" Fei Xiao said, stretching out one hand towards him. At the same time, she threw the strawberries she was holding in her other hand at the person who was coming.
Upon hearing this, Chen Kai rushed forward and hid behind Fei Xiao. "What's going on?" he asked, still in shock.
"I've finally found you!" When Shimizu saw Feixiao, a smile appeared on his thin lips. Then, a transparent snake darted out of the box beside him. It was a water snake that reflected an eerie light under the lamp.
"Go!" he shouted, and the snake shot towards Fei Xiao and Chen Kai like an arrow. Its open mouth had sharp teeth, and it was no different from a living snake, only several times larger.
"What do we do?" Chen Kai exclaimed, gripping Fei Xiao's sleeve tightly. None of the ghosts they had encountered before were this powerful.
