Söldnerprinzessin - Kapitel 10

Kapitel 10

"Oh! How terrible! I am..."

“Go see your wife; she just had her appendix removed,” you blurted out.

He looked at you in surprise. In fact, you were just as confused. It was as if the conversation had been rehearsed beforehand, and you had just recited your lines a beat earlier.

The elevator doors opened, and the man turned around and said "goodbye" to you, but you could see the panic in his eyes.

The elevator continued to ascend, and you desperately tried to recall what would happen next, but your mind went blank. You had never felt this way before.

Finally reaching the thirteenth floor, you head towards the ward. The nursing station is bustling with activity. You nod to the medical staff in a friendly manner. A middle-aged woman who looks like a head nurse comes over and asks who you are looking for. You give her your friend's name and bed number.

She led you to your friend's ward. The corridor was unusually clean, but the air was filled with an unpleasant smell of medicine. In fact, you didn't need her to lead the way; you knew where the ward was.

Your friend is lying there all alone.

"Hey! Bro, you finally came to see me!" Your friend shouts excitedly when he sees you.

"Are you alright?" you ask.

"Look!" His feet were dangling high on the orthopedic bed. "How am I supposed to get better like this?"

"Haha! You're so unlucky!" You sit next to him and place the gift on the bedside table.

"You're such a damn jinx! Thanks to your jinxed mouth, I've ended up in this state." He said to you with a laugh.

“I said, I know you don’t believe me, but it’s true, the world isn’t what we imagine it to be.”

"Yes, just like this car accident. I was ice skating yesterday, and today I'm lying here. Who could have imagined it?"

"Actually, it's already a miracle you didn't die! In that dream, I thought you were dead!"

"Screw your dreams! You're always so neurotic, haha, maybe one day you'll dream that I'm getting married, that would be great!"

You burst out laughing: "I bet you're destined to be a bachelor your whole life!"

Amidst the laughter, an ominous premonition begins to creep into your heart, a shadow that quietly fills the space, suffocating you, as if something is about to happen. You know about it, but you can't quite recall it, like a veil covering everything. Once lifted, the truth will be revealed. You painfully try to remember what it was, what it really was, and beads of sweat appear on your forehead.

"What's wrong? You look very pale!" your friend said.

"I don't know, I'm not feeling well. Maybe I have a bit of a cold," you said.

"Then go back and rest early!"

You nodded absentmindedly and said goodbye to your friend.

You are now walking towards the elevator, a doctor is following behind you, and you stop at the elevator door.

“This elevator is so slow!” he said.

"Yes," you replied.

You looked at the doctor; his face was very familiar, like an old friend from many years ago.

“We’re going the same way!” he said.

These words sent a slight tremor through your heart. The pronunciation was so clear, it felt like it was just yesterday. Yesterday? Did you hear it before? Where? You couldn't recall, and your heart felt like it was being scratched by a cat.

"Are you alright?" He could clearly tell you were not feeling well.

"Um, it's nothing, just a bit of a cold."

He chuckled and said, "This elevator is really outdated. The hospital said last year that they would replace it with a new one, but there's still no sign of it."

He sighed.

You smiled along.

The elevator doors opened, and you and he went inside.

"We're going the same way!" These words made you uneasy, and you coughed a few times in frustration. The elevator doors closed, and you suddenly had a delusional urge to go crazy.

Looking at the doctor's face, a feeling of disgust welled up inside you for no reason. You should know that you have never felt this way before; you are not someone who judges people by their appearance.

"Where the hell have I seen this guy before?" you ask yourself. He's so familiar with you, like a brother who's been through thick and thin with you.

"That's strange!" he said. "Why isn't the elevator moving?"

A clicking sound came from above the elevator, growing louder and louder.

This sound finally reminds you that it was in your dream last night. All of this happened in that dream, but you forgot about it this morning.

You suddenly remember that last night you dreamt you fell from an elevator, and that's when you woke up.

"Oh my god! Open that damn elevator!" You frantically press the open button.

But it was too late; the elevator plummeted downwards.

Two desperate screams rang out from inside the elevator.
