Il arrive souvent des choses désagréables - Chapitre 18

Chapitre 18

I won't allow him to be someone else. Three years is too long for me. I left my original world because of Jifeng. I endured the desolation of Qingcheng Mountain every day because of him. If I can't find him, then all of this is meaningless. No one else in this world has anything to do with me. All I need is him.

“Peace.” He spoke again, “I have no intention of torturing you, but the object inside you is of great importance. If you insist on not talking, then I will have no choice but to take you back to the church, interrogate you, and then extract the sacred object. The torture chamber is easy to enter but difficult to leave. I don’t want to say more. You can decide for yourself.”

I rolled over, looked at him, and said bluntly, "You want the worm inside my body?"

He probably didn't expect me to be so easy to talk to. He raised an eyebrow and said, "You really do know. Very well, the sacred object must be placed by the priest himself. Tell me, where is the person who implanted the sacred object into your body? This matter is of great importance, so please tell me in detail."

He rarely spoke such a long sentence in one breath, but it only left me more confused. I couldn't understand any of the parts and was completely bewildered.

Back then, I only saw another pair of black and white worms once in the golden box that my brother took out during the wedding procession. My brother said they were called "inseparable" and that Ji Feng and I also had a pair of such worms inside our bodies. But I had no idea how they got inside us.

Since that's the case, I had no choice but to honestly answer him, "I don't know."

His expression darkened, his eyes narrowed slightly, and he was about to speak again when there was a knock on the door. A very soft and charming voice came in, not loud, but every word clearly reached my ears.

"Is the Right Envoy inside? I heard that the Right Envoy brought back a woman today. I am curious, may I come in and take a look?"

I couldn't tell if it was a man or a woman from the sound outside, and looking at my disheveled state, I couldn't help but roll my eyes.

Mo Li's reaction was even more unexpected. He suddenly stood up, lifted the thin blanket covering me, and I felt a chill. I was about to scream when he pressed my pressure points. When I looked again, he was already on the bed, holding me in his arms. He swept his other hand behind his head, and his long, black hair fell down, cascading down like water onto both of us.

...

Hai: It's rare, but I've tried my best, sob sob. If you guys go berserk, I'll just go to the corner and grow mushrooms.

Narrator: There are already a lot of mushrooms in the corner...

Chapter 53

The car lurched forward suddenly, then stopped. Someone was speaking; their voice pierced straight into the car through the pattering rain, as if right next to their ear.

"Your Excellency Right Envoy, I have always taken the liberty of requesting an audience."

As we sped through the valley, the sudden stop and noise startled me. I looked up abruptly, but Mo Li pressed my hand down on me. He leaned forward, lifting the curtain with one hand while his other hand landed behind him—on my wrist.

The rain outside the carriage was torrential, and it was pitch black. There was no one there, and the short Qingfeng who should have been on the carriage shaft was nowhere to be seen.

I turned my head and finally saw him standing by the car in a raincoat. When he saw us get out of the car, he stepped forward, flipped his low-brimmed hat back to reveal a pale face. I was not prepared and was immediately startled. It turned out that it was not Qingfeng. I didn't know when the driver had changed.

Mo Li said, "What is it? Speak."

Suddenly, there was the sound of water splashing in the darkness, and a dark figure landed in front of our car. It was a thin young man with bright, piercing eyes that shone with a cold light even on a rainy night like this.

"Please go to Master Lan's place in Tongshui Town first, Your Excellency. Several elders of the sect are waiting to see you there to discuss important matters."

Mo Li remained silent, his hand resting on my wrist. Rain streamed in through the open carriage curtain, and although I was hiding behind him, I was quickly soaked and chilled to the bone.

Seeing that he did not react, the man took another step forward, "Right Envoy, sir."

Mo Li moved his fingers on my wrist, and my heart jumped into my throat. But he closed his fingers, removed them from my skin, and spoke.

"I have important business to attend to when I return to the church to see the leader, so I have to ask the elders to make the arrangements."

Chang Xian raised his eyes and stared directly at us, his lips flat and slightly downturned, revealing a ruthless expression. The short driver stepped forward again, and the previously stagnant atmosphere exploded with his action. Rain splashed, and in an instant, the two men had exchanged several blows in front of the car, each taking a half step back.

Another person appeared behind Chang Xian. It was another man in black, dressed the same as him. He stood silently behind him without saying a word. The wind and rain were raging, and the mountain forest was pitch black. No one knew how many other people were hiding there.

I was so nervous I could hardly breathe, but Mo Li remained motionless. After a short pause, he suddenly smiled.

"With you?"

"The elder has given orders, so we have no choice but to apologize." Chang Xian was the first to move, a sword instantly appearing in his hand. The person behind him moved in unison. I was so nervous I almost jumped up, but in the blink of an eye, a muffled groan came from Chang Xian's mouth. He, who was about to leap up, turned his head in disbelief, slowly turning back behind him, his voice hoarse, "You actually..."

The rain was torrential, and I could only see their blurry silhouettes. A sword had already pierced Chang Xian's back. He tried to block it with his hand, but his companion behind him grabbed his shoulder with one hand and exerted force with the other. The sword almost disappeared without a hilt. His shoulder was restrained, and perhaps there were pressure points there. He just stood there, his eyes wide with rage, but his body gradually slumped down and he died.

All of this happened right before our eyes. Mo Li remained unmoved, and the short driver didn't utter a sound. Only I watched, breathless, my fingertips icy cold, shivering. I couldn't help but clench my fists, only to realize that I was holding Mo Li's sleeve. He was in front of me, and the rain poured down, the wind blowing in and slapping him all over. His sleeve was so wet it could almost be wrung out.

The man put Chang Xian's body down, and without withdrawing his sword, he knelt down on the muddy ground.

"Your subordinate Chang Bao has met with the Right Envoy. Chang Xian has been disrespectful and rebellious, delaying the Right Envoy's journey. I have executed him on the spot."

Mo Li only answered with one word, "Okay".

The man remained prostrate on the ground, saying, "Your subordinate has important matters to report to you, sir."

"you say."

The man slightly raised his head but remained silent, clearly not wanting his words to be overheard by others.

My palm was suddenly empty as Mo Li floated out and landed in front of the man. He bent down slightly, leaving me alone in the car. My eyelids twitched in surprise, and I felt uneasy. Just as I was about to get out of the car and follow him, I heard a hiss like a snake exhaling. The man looked up and Mo Li inserted two fingers into his throat. His eyes were wide open, staring at him in disbelief, with the same expression as when Chang Xian died.

Chang Bao's lips moved as if he wanted to speak, but as soon as his breath stopped, all the strength in his body dissipated. His clenched hands fell down, his fingers loosened, and silver light rolled onto the ground, which was even more dazzling in the mud.

Mo Li glanced down and sneered, "Rain of Pear Blossoms, a fine thing indeed, but you're still a bit too eager to show off like this." With that, he flicked two fingers, and the man's body immediately collapsed with a thud.

In the blink of an eye, there were two dead bodies on the ground, their blood mixed with rainwater flowing in the mud. Mo Li stood in front of them, slowly turning his head to look at me. The scene was like a hellish landscape.

"Sir," the short coachman called out, "would you like to get in and continue our journey?"

Mo Li nodded, wiped his fingers with a cloth, which still had half a blood on them, discarded the cloth after wiping them, and slowly walked back, got into the carriage and lowered the curtain.

The car started moving forward. He glanced at me and suddenly reached out his hand.

I seemed to smell a strong stench of blood, but I wasn't afraid. I reached out to hold his hand, but his hand was already on my shoulder. He slowly asked, "Are you scared?" His eyes had darkened after killing someone, becoming as black as ink. He even had a hint of a smile when he spoke, but his voice was as cold as a blade.

I shook my head and simply asked him, "Are you alright?" I didn't feel any sympathy for someone who could kill his comrades in the blink of an eye; I was just worried about him.

His gaze shifted, the cold smile vanished abruptly, and he frowned, his expression strange.

I don't know what I said wrong, but he tightened his grip and lifted me up. My body felt light, and when I looked again, the place where I was sitting suddenly opened up. He grabbed me and floated down. When I opened my eyes again, I was outside the carriage. The carriage was moving forward rapidly without stopping, and I was gone in the blink of an eye.

The rain was so hard I couldn't open my eyes. My shoulder was still under his palm, but my hands had already grabbed his sleeve. A gust of cold wind blew, and I asked, shivering.

"Where are we going?"

His strange expression deepened, and without answering, he slowly uttered a seemingly unrelated remark.

"Aren't you afraid I'll bring you out and kill you?"

I've heard him say that before.

Memories of the past rushed back: the lonely palace, so familiar in my memory; the imperial garden swaying in the breeze; and the fleeting gusts of wind that drifted in through the window on a sweltering summer night.

Memories made me forget everything in the present. I smiled in the heavy rain, forgetting to answer, as if I had heard the most beautiful sweet words in the world.

Chapter 54

Mo Li and I traveled together.

I didn't know where he was going, and he wouldn't say. It was raining heavily in the mountains, so he led me to abandon the car and walk. In the darkness, he even used his lightness skill to descend the mountain in one leap. He looked gloomy the whole way, and I didn't dare to ask too many questions. I did my best to keep up, for fear of slowing him down.

Fortunately, while I'm not particularly good at anything else, I'm quite skilled at coming down from the mountain.

As we descended the mountain, we came across a farmhouse with only an elderly couple living there. On such a rainy night, they were obviously asleep. He led me inside, knocking on the door. We explained that we had been traveling all night when a sudden downpour caught us, and we wanted to ask for lodging for the night. The elderly couple, hurriedly throwing on their clothes, were quite surprised by our disheveled appearance, but they still kindly invited us in and even made room for us in their room.

The farmhouse was simple, with only two rooms. I was soaked to the bone, and I sneezed loudly as I entered the house. There was a well in the farmhouse courtyard, and as we walked to the well, my feet slipped on the wet ground, and I almost fell. Suddenly, I felt a tightness around my waist, and Mo Li caught me with one hand. My forehead hit his chest, and my nose touched his sternum with a muffled sound. He snorted, perhaps annoyed that I couldn't even walk properly, and simply picked me up and carried me into the house.

After entering the house, I heard the old woman sigh, "This young couple is so loving."

The old man laughed, "You old hag, I used to hold you a lot back in the day."

Actually, as soon as the door closed, he threw me to the ground. Hearing that conversation again, I was so miserable that I almost bumped my head on the table leg. When I looked up, I saw that he was already sitting cross-legged with his eyes closed, and he didn't say another word to me.

I remembered how badly he had been injured before, and I started to worry again. After hesitating for a long time, I couldn't help but walk over and reach out to take his pulse. But before my fingers could even touch his skin, he grabbed my hand and opened his eyes, his gaze turning cold.

Unfortunately, no matter how timid I am, I've gotten used to him staring at me like that. Besides, he said he would bring me back to the church no matter what. I looked back at him and thought, "You've already revealed your hand, and you're still trying to fool me?"

However, I wasn't bold enough to say these things to his face, and I even explained, "I wanted to check on your injuries. Why didn't you take the car? Did the driver know we left?"

He kept looking into my eyes, gradually loosening his grip, and gave a cold snort, "I just don't want him to know."

I was stunned, and then suddenly realized that he had gone to such great lengths to deceive the Left Envoy and everyone in the garden. Later, when he was driving in the rainy night, even Qingfeng had been replaced, yet he was still attacked halfway. There was only one person who could be suspected.

But that person kept blocking his way. Was there a misunderstanding? I looked at him again and saw that he had closed his eyes again, his profile silent.

It might have been a misunderstanding, but he chose to abandon it.

My heart clenched. It turned out that he didn't trust anyone around him.

Thinking of this, I felt even colder. My clothes were soaked through with rain, wet and heavy. I had no clothes to change into and didn't know what to do. I slowly sat down next to him, leaning against the corner of the wall, as if looking for someone to lean on.

I'm too tired to keep going.

The room was quiet, and I gradually became drowsy, but I felt a chill run through my body and shiver. Suddenly, my wrist tightened. I tried to wake up, but my eyelids were too heavy to open. I felt a warm current flow into my body from where my wrist was being held, and it instantly spread throughout my body.

When I woke up, my clothes were already dry. The heavy rain outside had stopped, and the first rays of dawn were breaking. There was no one in the house. I jumped up in surprise, pushed open the door, and ran out. I bumped into the old woman. The two bowls of porridge she was holding fell over as she screamed, but someone caught them and put them in his hands in an instant.

Who else is there? It is none other than my peerless master, Mo Li.

After finishing his business, he still had some free time. He glanced at me, his eyes clearly conveying two words.

trouble.

It really hurt my self-esteem.

We drank the two bowls of porridge facing each other in the room. When I got up, I touched my clothes, and he looked at me and asked, "What are you doing?"

I said that since the old man treated us so well, we should thank him.

He sneered, "Fine, I won't kill you then."

I gasped. "You're going to kill them too?"

"Only the dead can't reveal their whereabouts."

That sentence... I almost bumped my head on the table again.

As we walked down the street, I glared at him and said, "You're kidding."

He was expressionless.

Later I realized that I didn't understand cults at all. If it was an organized place, why would they let the leader travel such a long distance alone? Sure enough, before we even left the mountain, someone came to meet us. Several large trucks were lined up at the fork in the road, a spectacular sight. I was startled and paused. Someone had already gracefully landed on the lead truck. He was dressed in red and had a big smile on his face.

"The woman in red is late, Your Majesty, I apologize for the trouble."

I couldn't take my eyes off it when I heard the name. I stared straight at it and met a pair of bright, clear eyes that were sparkling even when they weren't smiling.
