Chapitre 30

Mingyue didn't shy away from the topic and replied with a smile, "Okay. By the way, I'll take you to see the wintersweet in my garden!"

"Okay, okay!" I replied with a smile. I immediately felt that gaze pierce me again, its murderous intent growing stronger. How amusing!

The South Garden where Mingyue lives is filled with wintersweet, its fragrance filling the air. There are also several plum trees, which are very well cared for. However, it's a pity that they won't bloom for the next two months.

When I entered Mingyue's room, I couldn't help but admire it. A white fox fur blanket, a sandalwood beaded curtain, a blue gauze drape, a paulownia wood zither, meticulously painted flowers and birds… everything was something this child loved. I never imagined that Yuchi Manor could be so thoughtful.

Later, I gradually learned that the South Garden was managed by the manor's steward. This steward was despicable, ruthless, two-faced, and cold-blooded... all that was known was his surname, Di; no one dared to mention his given name.

I found it increasingly amusing, and whenever I encountered him at the villa, I would inevitably provoke him with words. Though he remained aloof and arrogant, he would invariably become enraged within moments. Though he would suppress his anger, his jealousy and displeasure were clearly visible, which was truly laughable. Soon, this became my favorite pastime at the villa.

One day, my master was traveling near the mountain villa. Upon hearing the news, I went to greet him and inquire about the Heavenly Fox. That night, I suddenly saw a white light pierce the sky. My master cast a divination and said to me, "The seal on the 'Suppressing Pot' has been broken, and the Heavenly Fox has been freed."

I was surprised and hurried back to Yuchi Manor, fearing that something might have gone wrong.

When I returned to Nanyuan, nothing major had happened, except that Mingyue was insisting on returning to the Nanling Prince's Mansion. I was worried and focused on investigating the "Heavenly Fox" matter, so I forgot to ask her why.

The next day, as I was casting a divination, the maids rushed to me, saying that Mingyue was going to cut off someone's right hand.

She's all talk and no action; how could she possibly succeed? With a sense of morbid curiosity, I followed the maid.

When I arrived, I heard a sharp slap. Mingyue spoke, her words ringing out: "How dare you! How dare you be so disrespectful to me time and time again!"

I looked up and couldn't help but chuckle. So, the person who had provoked Mingyue and made her so angry was him. But his appearance was a bit strange; his usual aloofness and arrogance were completely gone, and there was a hint of fear and grievance between his brows.

People around him whispered that he was stupid.

Just then, Mingyue questioned him about the matter, but he remained silent.

I felt a surge of sympathy and stepped out of the crowd to help him out. This also proved Mingyue's point—to test whether he was mentally challenged.

With a big smile, I asked him, "Do you know your own name?"

He looked up and answered earnestly, "Di Xiu."

"Oh." I pointed at Mingyue with my folding fan and asked, "Do you recognize her?"

He glanced timidly at Mingyue, nodded, and answered earnestly, "Yuchi Mingyue."

Upon hearing this, Mingyue immediately became dissatisfied. I calmed her down and asked her the last two questions.

Why did you go easy on her just now?

"I can't bring myself to do it..."

Why?

At that moment, a smile gradually bloomed on his face. That smile was gentle, dissolving all his previous murderous aura and revealing a touch of tenderness and brightness. With that smile, he answered without hesitation, "I like her."

That's really stupid, no doubt about it.

I couldn't help but smile, yet I also felt a sense of relief.

I like her.

To be so easily candid with one's true feelings—that's truly foolish. But if it's possible, what's wrong with that?

Hehe, that's right. So good, so very good...
