Capítulo 17

Ming Er's lips twitched slightly. He secretly rubbed the bumps on his arm, then followed along with an air of nonchalance.

Ning Lang stood in front of the railing, staring blankly as the two walked away, recalling Lan Qi's gaze just now, those clear green eyes filled with a mocking and teasing tone.

Is it really disrespectful of Seventh Master to act like this in front of his unmarried partner?

Wu Shiming's words echoed in my mind, like a heavy punch to my heart, causing a dull, aching pain.

"Ning Lang." Yuwen Luo raised his hand and gently patted his shoulder.

"To respect someone, you must first see them in your own eyes, right?" Ning Lang murmured.

"Ning Lang, what's wrong?" Yuwen Luo asked worriedly.

Ning Lang snapped out of his daze, turned his head to look at Yuwen Luo, and asked, "Brother, do you think she's a man or a woman?"

Yuwen Luo remained silent, but his heart sank when his gaze met Ning Lang's eyes. Chapter Twenty-One, Part Seven: The Pleasure of a Broken Hairpin (Part Two)

As Ming Er and Lan Qi walked out of the inn, they ran into the waiter chasing away two beggars, one old and one young.

"Grandpa, please give me some alms. My child hasn't eaten for three days." The old beggar pleaded in a low voice, holding a broken bowl in one hand and leading the pitifully short little beggar in the other.

"Get out of here! Don't make a mess!" the waiter yelled. Afraid of getting his hands dirty, he kicked the old man and his son repeatedly with the sole of his shoe. The two emaciated men stumbled and fell to the ground, and the bowls, so dirty that their original color was no longer visible, shattered into several pieces.

Before Ming Er could react, he heard the sound of wind beside him, and then a loud slap landed on Xiao Er's face.

"Who..." The waiter turned around abruptly, but froze, forgetting his pain and anger, and just stared with his mouth wide open.

"Do you want me to cut off your two dog legs?" Those bewitching green eyes were now as cold as an icy pool.

Xiao Er just stared blankly, without reacting.

Lan Qi frowned, flicked her sleeve, and shouted "Get out!" The waiter was instantly thrown into the air and fell several feet away with a thud. The sudden pain brought him back to his senses. He stood up, looked at the two people in front of the door, and didn't dare to cry out in pain.

Ming Er helped the old man and the young man up, took out a silver leaf from his sleeve and handed it to the old man, pointing to the inn's gate, "Go and have a proper meal."

"Thank you so much, sir... sir, thank you so much, sir." The old man kowtowed repeatedly with tears in his eyes.

Ming Er sidestepped the bow, then turned to look at Lan Qi, his empty eyes showing a hint of curiosity: "Why is Seventh Young Master so angry?"

Lan Qi was taken aback for a moment, but quickly recovered and laughed, "Oh dear, isn't it all because this waiter bullied the old and weak? As a chivalrous person, how could Lan Qi not take action?" After saying that, his blue eyes shone brightly, but he never once looked at the old man and the child.

Ming Er found the words familiar and was about to reply when Lan Qi exclaimed "Eh!" and looked ahead. Following her gaze, Ming Er saw four people standing about two zhang away—the two pairs of senior and junior disciples he had met at lunch. They must have come to stay the night. At that moment, the junior sister's gaze was filled with delight as she looked at him, while the senior brother's gaze was one of adoration and infatuation as he looked at Lan Qi. Ming Er raised an eyebrow; they had actually delivered themselves to his doorstep.

Lan Qi's clear blue eyes swept over the four men, then she tugged at Ming Er's sleeve and called out sweetly, "Ming... Lang."

Ming Er shuddered, suddenly feeling as if early autumn had prematurely turned into deep winter.

"Minglang, look how beautiful that girl's purple jade hairpin is!" Lan Qi kept tugging at Ming Er's sleeve, pointing with her jade fan at the jade hairpin in the pink-clad junior sister's hair, her face full of envy and admiration.

Ming Er subtly tugged at his sleeve, glanced at the pink-clad junior sister, and then at Lan Qi, who had the air of a delicate young woman. "Are you sure you like that purple jade hairpin?" Seeing Lan Qi turn to look at him, he smiled slightly, leaned close to her ear, and whispered, "Don't you like the pleasure of tearing silk and breaking hairpins?"

"Oh, Minglang, you are truly my confidant." Lan Qi waved her jade fan, turned her head to cover her face, half of her face was outside the fan, and she had a smile that could bewitch all living beings.

Ming Er remained unmoved, smiled politely, and asked, "Do you still want to see the sunset over Mengshan?"

Lan Qi glanced at the sky with feigned nonchalance and said, "Sigh, it's getting late, almost past Shen Shi (3-5 PM), we should have dinner soon." With that, she glanced at her two senior brothers with her emerald eyes, left a captivating smile, and turned to go back.

Ming Er nodded slightly to the four people, then turned and left.

On the high-rise building, Ning Lang and Yuwen brothers took in the whole scene, each with their own thoughts.

The next day, after washing up, Ning Lang went downstairs for breakfast, only to find Ming Er, Lan Qi, and the Yuwen brothers already sitting around a table with various breakfast dishes laid out.

"Ning Lang, we've been waiting for you," Yuwen Luo greeted him.

Ning Lang hurried over, "You're here so early today."

"I slept soundly last night without any ghosts or monsters bothering me, so I got up early," Ming Er said while ladling porridge.

Upon hearing this, Yuwen Luo gave him a strange look, then turned to look at Lan Qi.

Lan Qi was playing with two purple jade hairpins in her hands, a smile never leaving her face, a hint of amusement in her lips. Upon hearing this, she merely raised her eyelids and glanced at Ming Er indifferently.

Ning Lang's gaze fell upon the purple jade hairpin between Lan Qi's fingers, and he was momentarily stunned.

"Ning Lang, isn't this purple jade hairpin beautiful?" Lan Qi asked him with a smile.

Ning Lang's gaze lingered on the jade hairpin. He moved his lips, but couldn't bring himself to say "beautiful," nor could he ask "where it came from."

Footsteps sounded again on the stairs. The group looked up and saw the two pairs of senior and junior brothers and sisters from yesterday coming down the stairs. When they reached the middle of the stairs, they saw the five people sitting downstairs and also saw the purple jade hairpin in Lan Qi's hand. The four of them immediately changed color. The two senior brothers glared at each other, their expressions quite annoyed. The two junior sisters stared at their senior brothers, their expressions much more complicated, showing annoyance, resentment, hatred, and anger.

Lan Qi smiled at the four of them, then turned to Ming Er, holding out two jade hairpins in one hand and shaking his shoulder with the other, asking in a sweet voice, "Ming Lang, which of these two purple jade hairpins do you think looks better on me?"

At that moment, the eyes of the two senior brothers and the two junior sisters all turned to Lan Qi; the former were nervous, and the latter were filled with resentment.

Holding the bowl of porridge, Ming Er glanced up at the absolutely slender and beautiful hand on his shoulder, then at the crystal-clear nails. They were non-toxic. It seemed that yesterday's promise had been effective. The ghosts and monsters were gone, the endless schemes were gone, and he could finally have some "leisure" on this journey.

She smiled slightly, exuding absolute elegance and gentleness, her misty eyes fixed intently on Lan Qi, and said, "This purple dress already makes you incredibly beautiful; there's no need to add anything more."

Upon hearing this, the Yuwen brothers were dumbfounded, Ning Lang was astonished, and even Lan Qi was taken aback, seemingly not expecting Ming Er to say such a thing. But in the blink of an eye, she smiled sweetly and said, "Ming Lang is really good at coaxing people."

"Hmph!" With a few cold snorts, the senior brother glared at Ming Er with resentment, while the junior sister stared at Lan Qi with a sore throat.

"Minglang, what should we do with these two jade hairpins?" Lan Qixian asked Ming Er, pointing at the two jade hairpins.

Ming Er raised his hand to brush away the stray strands of hair that had fallen beside her temple, his expression both affectionate and composed. "Next time, I'll choose a jade hairpin for you, one that will perfectly complement your unique eyes."

A figure flashed through the hall; the two junior sisters rushed out of the door, while the two senior brothers still looked at Lan Qi with lingering affection.

Lan Qi's bright blue eyes sparkled, like pools of spring water, captivating all who beheld her. "Then I'll throw this hairpin away."

At this moment, even the senior brother couldn't stand still. His face turned pale and then red. He stomped his foot and chased after his junior sister.

Once the person was out of sight, Lan Qi could no longer hold back and burst into laughter, leaning over the table: "Haha..."

Ming Er raised an eyebrow slightly, looked at Lan Qi who was laughing heartily, and asked, "Seventh Young Master, did you have a good time?"

"Haha...This is so much fun." Lan Qi flicked her fingertips, and the two purple jade hairpins in her hand broke into four pieces.

"They're probably newbies just starting out in the martial world," Yuwen Luo murmured, looking at the doorway. Otherwise, even if they didn't recognize Lan Qi, they should at least know about those unique emerald eyes. Before leaving their sect, weren't they told, "It's better to provoke ten thousand enemies than to provoke a single emerald demon"?

"Ning Lang." Lan Qi turned her head. "This is what you call 'liking'? It's such a ridiculous thing."

"Is that why you... that's why you did this?" Ning Lang looked at her in shock.

“Yes.” Lan Qi answered readily, her blue eyes filled with pure wickedness and willfulness. “I thought it would be something really fun, but it turned out to be so easily defeated. Sigh, disappointing.”

"You... how could you do this!" Ning Lang's face flushed red, and his eyes blazed with anger.

"Oh? You seem quite unhappy." Lan Qi narrowed her emerald eyes slightly and glanced at Ning Lang with a light and indifferent look. Ning Lang felt a chill run through him. For no reason, he felt that Lan Qi in front of him was suddenly distant and unreachable.

Lan Qi flicked her fingers, making the broken purple jade hairpin in her hand jingle. "Senior brother likes junior sister very much, so much that he's unhappy if anyone else even glances at her, and so much that junior sister gets jealous if she even looks at someone else, but..." She picked up a broken hairpin with her index finger and thumb and gently stroked it, then fine dust fell, and in a moment, the broken hairpin had turned into a small clump of dust on the table. "And what is this?" Lan Qi picked up another broken hairpin and stroked it, watching the dust fall, and said indifferently, "So it's just because they haven't seen anything better, and it's just superficial beauty that's enough to make them lose their minds!"

Ning Lang was speechless.

Lan Qi glanced at Ming Er, who stood calmly to the side, and said, "Even that junior sister was swayed by the Second Young Master, yet he doesn't seem to have done anything improper."

Ning Lang looked at Ming Er, who was ladling porridge into everyone's bowls. Noticing Ning Lang's gaze, he looked up at him with a gentle and refined look that would make anyone feel good.

"Ning Lang." Lan Qi gazed at him with deep, dark blue eyes, no one could discern what lay within them. "So-called liking and infatuation are shallow things, nothing more than fleeting desires. Just as we may find peach blossoms beautiful, we may find peonies even more beautiful. Nothing in this world lasts forever, and nothing is eternally unchanging!" With that, she raised her hand and slapped Ning Lang on the forehead. "See how good I am to you, my unmarried self? I'm personally imparting this kind of worldly experience to you." Her blue eyes were alluring, her smile wicked—it was Lan Qi again, the one who both loved and feared.

"I...I won't..." I wouldn't do that to you. Ning Lang wanted to say that, but looking into those unfathomable blue eyes, he couldn't utter a word.

Just then, a man walked in through the door. He was of ordinary build and had an ordinary face. He strode up to Lan Qi, bowed, and said, "Master, the carriage you ordered is ready and waiting outside."

“Alright.” Lan Qi nodded, flicked her sleeves and stood up. “We must be a little tired from walking so far. Why don’t we take a carriage? It would be more convenient for Young Master Yuwen to recover.” She glanced at Yuwen with her green eyes, then stepped towards the door.

"Big brother, let's go get our luggage." Yuwen Luo quickly pulled his brother upstairs, not giving him a chance to get angry or refuse, while calling to Ning Lang, "You should also hurry up and pack."

Only Ming Er sat on the chair, his gaze fixed on the empty doorway, as if he were looking at something that others could not see, and a faint smile slowly appeared on his lips.

There wasn't much luggage, just a few clothes. Ning Lang gathered them together and tied them into a bundle. The door opened, and Yuwen Luo walked in.

Ning Lang.

"Hmm?" Ning Lang looked up when he heard the voice calling him.

“You…” Yuwen Luo considered how to phrase it.

"Brother, what do you want to say?" Ning Lang looked at Yuwen Luo, who seemed to have some difficulty speaking.

Yuwen Luo looked up and met Ning Lang's clear, bright eyes. His heart warmed, and he said, "Ning Lang, you... treat Seventh Young Master as family, as a brother or sister, or as a friend, it doesn't matter."

"Hmm?" Ning Lang looked at Yuwen Luo with a puzzled expression.

“Ning Lang, Lan Qi is a completely different person from you. She is too far removed from you.” Yuwen Luo’s voice held an undisguised sigh. “As you’ve come this far, you’ve seen it all. To her, the people and things of this world are nothing more than things to play with and amuse herself. A person like her has a very deep mind that no one else can fathom. Even if she has true intentions, you can’t touch them.” He raised his hand and patted his shoulder. “Ning Lang, I don’t want you to be sad in the future.”

Ning Lang didn't answer, but stared intently at Yuwen Luo with his big, round eyes. His expression was a mix of confusion and bewilderment, as if he couldn't understand yet also understood completely.

“Ning Lang, although we are only sworn brothers, in my heart you are better than a blood brother, and I hope you will always be like that.” Yuwen Luo looked at Ning Lang sincerely. “In your heart, people and things are only divided into good and bad. Isn’t that simple? Simple people are the happiest.” Chapter Twenty-Two, Part Eight: The Fragrance of Flowers Captures the Beauty of Heaven (Part 1)

The carriage was large, drawn by four horses, all of them chestnut-red steeds. Once inside, Lan Qi, dressed in men's clothing, was reclining on a couch. The carriage was spacious and comfortable, with a central aisle and knee-high couches on either side and directly opposite, covered with thick brocade cushions, upon which bamboo mats were laid. The couches on either side were divided into four sections by small tables, each laden with tea, snacks, and fruit. Lan Qi occupied the central couch, the Yuwen brothers sat on the right, and Ming Er and Ning Lang sat on the left—one couch each, just right.

Since they weren't in a hurry, the carriage moved at a leisurely pace, traveling very steadily. The windows were open, and bamboo curtains were drawn, allowing for ventilation while keeping out the dust. The passengers sat or lay down comfortably. When it was time to eat, someone brought the food, and tea and snacks were served continuously. Yuwen Luo secretly praised himself for his cleverness, thinking that following Lan Qi on the road was indeed a wise move. Everything, from food and lodging to transportation, was arranged perfectly, so he didn't have to worry about anything.

Ming Er sat cross-legged with his eyes closed throughout the journey. Yu Lang would sometimes stare blankly at something, and sometimes stretch out his arms and legs and sleep soundly. Lan Qi, unusually, didn't tease the others anymore, and kept his eyes closed, leaning against something in a half-asleep state. Even more remarkable was Yuwen, who managed to remain silent in front of two people he utterly disliked, either meditating and regulating his breathing or sleeping with his eyes closed. The only one who seemed bored along the way was Yuwen Luo. In this way, several days passed. During the day, they would lie on the carriage and travel slowly, and at night they would find an inn to rest, continuing their journey the next day.

"How utterly uneventful," Yuwen Luo sighed, tapping his pen. He hoped something had happened; otherwise, how could he possibly keep track of the daily lives of the Ming Second Young Master and Lan Seventh Young Master, who were the focus of the entire martial arts world?

Just as Yuwen Luo was extremely bored, he suddenly heard the neighing of horses outside the carriage. The coachman shouted "Whoa!" and the carriage stopped. Then he heard a very urgent and powerful voice say, "Keep going, don't say you've seen me!" Then the carriage door opened with a "creak" and a tall figure quickly flashed in, then closed the door behind him.

All five people in the car opened their eyes and stared at the uninvited guest. They were all taken aback, as they were all acquaintances.

"Seventh Young Master," the coachman called from outside the door. It seemed the man had barged in so quickly that the coachman hadn't even had time to react before he was inside. He was probably filled with regret now, as the Seventh Young Master wouldn't tolerate anyone making a mistake.

"You should drive the carriage," Lan Qi said calmly.

"Yes," the coachman outside the door replied, and then the carriage continued on its way.

Lan Qi sat up from the couch, her bright blue eyes shining as she looked at the somewhat disheveled man in black who had rushed into the carriage. Her tone was relaxed and cheerful: "Oh dear, isn't this Third Master Lie? It's rare to see you like this. Who are you hiding from? Who in this world is so powerful that you're afraid of them like this? You're usually the one who comes to them because of their reputation, so why are you the one avoiding someone powerful today?"

This uninvited guest was none other than Lie Chifeng, the third master of the Lie family. He glanced at Ming Er, moved the corner of his mouth as a greeting, indifferently swept over Ning Lang, paused for a moment as if recognizing him, then looked at the Yuwen brothers, gave an almost imperceptible nod as a greeting, and then took a few strides to the couch where Lan Qi was sitting, moved the small table to the middle, and sat down without any politeness, taking up half of the space.

Yuwen Luo looked at Lie Chifeng with immense admiration. Even the Second Young Master Ming wouldn't dare to act like this! He could so rightfully and confidently occupy half of Lan Qishao's territory! Amazing! I admire you!

Faintly, the sound of horses' hooves seemed to come from afar again. Lie Chifeng frowned, looked up at the people in the carriage. Yuwen Yi had already closed his eyes and lay down again. Yuwen Luo stared intently at him as if he had discovered something rare. Ning Lang stared blankly at himself, still not having come to his senses. Ming Er closed his eyes to rest. After staring at Ming Er for a moment, he moved his lips, then turned back to look at Lan Qi and said, "I'm not here."
