Chapitre 98

"Are you angry? Because I said something to you? But I was doing it for your own good..."

He glared at me and I gave up.

"Okay, okay, it's my fault, I shouldn't have blamed you..." She couldn't help but sigh inwardly. If the other person were Qiu Xialin or Li Changsheng, let alone an apology, I'd slap them across the face, and they dared to glare at me? Try glaring at me again!

Hmm... that's a bit of an exaggeration... Xia Lin is one thing, but Chang Sheng is definitely not someone you can fight right now. Although he might not retaliate, just being given a cold look by him makes you feel chilled to the bone. Tsk, he's getting less and less lovable.

Ji Yunwen was even angrier: "Is it because of what you said?"

Shanglin asked in confusion, "Then why are you angry?"

Ji Yunwen walked quickly with a cold face. Shang Lin tugged at his sleeve, pleading, "Alright, alright, whatever the reason, let's go back first, okay? It's late at night, it's dark, and it's dangerous outside..."

The most common plot in soap operas is that the female lead, wronged, runs away at night and is targeted by a villain with malicious intent. In the show, there's always a hero to save the damsel in distress. While I may be rich and smart, I'm weak and incapable of fighting, so I'd only be a burden... I mean, can we at least avoid going into the dark and hopeless?

I walked briskly and happened to enter a small garden in the middle of the street.

There were no streetlights, no pedestrians, and not even passing vehicles. It was quiet all around, and Shanglin could only hear his own heavy breathing.

Ji Yunwen finally had a change of heart and stopped running.

"Let's go back first." She grabbed him and started to walk back.

In a secluded little garden in the middle of the street, a place where violent crimes frequently occur, Qiu Shanglin didn't want to test how bad her luck could be.

Normal people prefer bright lights; only abnormal people seek out dark places because darkness breeds filth and facilitates crime. The women in soap operas always complain about the abundance of bad people, but they never think to themselves that the places they frequent are inherently problematic.

Ji Yunwen shook her off.

She was taken aback; the November evening breeze was quite chilly, and a surge of temper welled up inside her.

"What are you so angry about?!"

Is this ever going to end? Is this ever going to end? Can't you stop acting like a child and being unreasonable?

Ji Yunwen was completely oblivious, still burning with rage: "Why am I angry? You know perfectly well why I'm angry!"

"I have no idea!"

Ji Yunwen's chest heaved with anger as he glared at her and said, "I hate it when you talk to Li Changsheng, I hate it when you smile at him, I hate it when you mention him all the time, I hate it when you playfully hit him, I hate it when you're with him!"

Shanglin found him utterly inexplicable.

Changsheng didn't provoke you. Even if someone is at fault today, it's Qiu Xialin who made the mistake, so why is Changsheng being dragged into it?

"What are you talking about? Changsheng and I grew up together, how could we not talk, laugh, or mention him—aren't you two buddies?"

Later, scientific practice proved that Qiu Shanglin's IQ was not low, but his EQ was not high enough.

“What makes me angrier is this—you two grew up together! Do you know, Li Changsheng…” He trailed off.

After much hesitation, he gritted his teeth and disregarded everything: "Li Changsheng, he..."

He was interrupted at this point.

"Guess what I saw, guys—a couple arguing!" A strange voice came from behind the bushes.

The words "I like you" were stuck in their throats. The two turned around at the same time, and the monkey pushed aside the bushes to get closer to them.

With a sleazy air, the cigarette butt in his mouth flickered on and off: "Early romance is bad, early romance makes you a bad student..."

By the dim moonlight, Ji Yunwen recognized him and exclaimed in surprise, "You are—that monkey from the amusement park!"

He spat and said, "I'm the manager of Monkey Mountain! What monkey? Who told you to call me monkey? I'm called Brother Monkey!" He had inadvertently revealed his nickname. Hearing his brothers snickering, he was extremely annoyed.

"Enough with the nonsense. If you dare embarrass me, you're not going to have any peace!" He approached menacingly.

Ji Yunwen blocked his way: "What are you trying to do?"

"Ha, what are you doing? You little brat, if you know what's good for you, pay me six hundred yuan for emotional distress, and you and your friend kowtow and apologize to me. If you don't, don't blame me for being impolite..."

In the dim light, his face appeared grotesque and terrifying.

Shang Lin was hidden behind Ji Yunwen, who held him tightly. He quickly assessed the situation; following Hou Guan's threat, the men behind him had already drawn their weapons. And Hou Guan, with his bulging waistband, was probably no pushover either.

A wise person doesn't fight a losing battle. She made a quick decision.

She tiptoed and whispered in Ji Yunwen's ear: "Agree to him. Be polite."

Ji Yunwen raised his chin stiffly and said, "Why should I!"

Shanglin secretly thought something was wrong.

He quickly stepped out of his protection: "We know what's good for us—I agree!"

Monkey Guan revealed a satisfied smile.

Ji Yunwen, however, pulled Shang Lin back with dissatisfaction: "What nonsense are you talking about? Why should we apologize? This is extortion!"

Seeing the other person's unpleasant expression, Shanglin inwardly groaned. "You fool!"

He quickly tried to salvage the situation: "Shut up!"

Turning to them again, he said amicably, “I’ll give you the money. And I’ll have them apologize. But we left in a hurry and didn’t bring any cash—how about this, you come downstairs with me, or I can go back and get it, or I can go upstairs and he can wait downstairs, okay?”

Her words showed consideration for the other party. She didn't demand their release or their safety, only that they stay downstairs as a hostage, assuring them the other wouldn't refuse payment. Shang Lin had her own reasons.

Once she reaches a well-lit neighborhood with houses, she can shout out, and even if no one intervenes, a kind-hearted person will always call the police. Moreover, once she gets upstairs, pays the ransom, she can always call the police first, stall them for a while, and the police will arrive soon.

As for keeping Ji Yunwen instead of himself—at most, the other party would beat him up, but if he kept himself, it was hard to say whether the other party would have bad intentions.

Hou Guan hesitated, weighing the options. This method seemed excellent, considering all aspects perfectly. Just as he was about to agree, Ji Yunwen angrily pounced on him: "I'll beat your mother to death X@#^&..."

Caught off guard, and since he wasn't exactly a model student in every way, he managed to entangle the other man for a moment, then turned around and yelled, "Get out of here!"

If the timing weren't so inappropriate, Shanglin would have wanted to cover his face and sigh deeply. Can't you use your brain?... If you hadn't shouted, I could have left, but you yelled so loudly that everyone knows, how am I supposed to leave?!

Despite this, she couldn't just sit and wait to die. Seeing everyone else rushing to beat up Ji Yunwen, only one person ran over to grab her, raised his foot, and accurately kicked the man's genitals—precise and powerful—while simultaneously yelling:

"Help! Help! Murder! Fire! Thief! Robbery! Damaging flowers and trees! Fire! Fire! Help! Help!"

The guy she kicked in the groin was in excruciating pain, but upon hearing her scream, he froze, clutching his groin. A fire? No, there wasn't one.

He was unaware of Qiu Shanglin's ulterior motives.

If it's just a murder, people might be too timid to intervene, but a fire is a different story. When the city gate catches fire, the innocent bystanders suffer; if anyone hears about it, they'll surely come to investigate.

One of the men who had ganged up on Ji Yunwen broke away to chase after Qiu Shanglin, and shoved the guy who had been kicked in the groin: "Useless thing, hurry up and chase after him!"

Shanglin knew he couldn't run far and didn't even try to escape alone. He just kept circling the obstacles, shouting, "Fire! Help! Fire! The garden is on fire! Fire!"

She circled around the obstacle, and for a moment the other party couldn't do anything to her.

But the disparity in strength was obvious. In just a few minutes, he stretched out his arm, grabbed Qiu Shanglin, and punched him, saying, "I made you start a fire..." He pounded hard on Qiu Shanglin's cheek.

She dared not look, and closed her eyes tightly in fear, waiting for the pain to come.

Before the fist could land, just a finger's width away, a sudden, sharp pain shot through his waist. Before he could react, he was already airborne, half-flying and half-dragging along the ground for a good three meters before crashing into the guy standing behind him clutching his genitals.

This guy's life is pretty miserable, actually.

Being kicked by Shang Lin was already miserable enough, but then his head flew out and hit his injured area, causing him to fall to the ground, where he was in so much pain that tears streamed down his face.

Shang Lin opened her eyes and found herself being protected behind her younger brother. Xia Lin, while protecting her as they slowly retreated, clicked his tongue and said, "My brother is really fierce. One kick from him is as heavy as a thousand pounds. That kid won't be able to get up for at least half a year!"

Changsheng was already entangled in a fight with the guys who were ganging up on Ji Yunwen.

Xia Lin knew her sister was worried, so she comforted her, "My brother told me to call the police. Someone will be here soon, so don't be afraid."
